I gotta throw my hat in with the FB/EM crowd. I'm currently rocketing around freedom with a reckless attitude that can be backed up by an unyielding amount of damage. I giggle when a Tank tells me to wait until he grabs all the aggro. Any decent Fire blaster knows a Tank is no protection from the aggro Fire can draw.
As you might be able to tell, I also play along the lines of "defense, what defense" tactics. We're blasters!! Our defense is unapologetic DPS. -
I've looked around and I couldn't find a guide for my powerset combination. I played with it in Mids and this is what I came up with.
Code:I figure I'm mostly gonna solo with some teaming. I'm also looking to get the biggest bang for my buck. Thanks for any advice. -
I was trying to reduce the cost of the slotting with the most recent build. I was wondering about the End usage. With the Global recharge bonuses, will I be running dry on End rapidly? Or is the slotting on stamina enough?
I'm probably going to run with the build I have for a few levels. You know... actually do some play testing before posting the next build idea. Who knows, maybe this thread will spawn a new Dark/Dark guide. If it does, I will give credit to all who helped.
I can see dropping Soul Drain for Power Up for slotting reasons. How do the bonuses from each compare? Or, where could I go to check those numbers on my own?
Thanks. -
Thank you for the quick response. I have to admit I made the toon about a half hour before posting. I have some experience with D3's (Dark/Dark Def's) on blue-side.
To answer some questions: Having played Offender's on hero side, I was wanting to focus on the dps aspect of the Corrupter. I like the control heavy style of Dark Miasma so I think I'll keep Soul Mastery and its hold on the list. So with an aim towards soloing being the primary outcome and teaming second, here is the new build.

I have one of each. A PB named Sacred May, and a WS named Lady Stardiver

I always go through the tutorial with a new toon. If you turn off xp as soon as you zone into it, you should pop out into either Atlas Park or Mercy with nil for xp. You should also have you're mitts on a pair of Large pills, one red, one green.
With xp still off, go kill a few level one mobs in your new zone until you have about 30 inf. This should let you put the two pills on the market. Each time I've done this I've walked away with anywhere between 30 and 65 thousand inf.
This should be enough for you to forge ahead and start building wealth like you're in a bubble. -
I knew it was only a matter of time before you showed up, L. I bow to your knowledge of all things dealing with sharp, pointy sticks.

Follow this link to the Defender guide for TA/A by Luminara. It's a little old but it still gives good advice on the powers and their effects.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=122243 -
I'd have to agree with those previous to me. Fire/energy or Rad/Energy I would take for increased damage output. Ice/Ice has great mitigation, along with Elec/Elec if ya go with the endo mod side of it. For style AR and Archery is nice both have decent damage output and AR is a lunatic with the AoE.
You also want to nail down what play style you're gonna be messin with. Are you going to be blapping, full ranged, arial or speed jousting? -
I always wait til 2 before joining a sewer team. On this occasion, I had my targeted heal and the two tier one blasts. I was doing far more blasting than healing. And since my toon was /NRG, I was adding my KB into the mix

One. I'm glad to see Luminara still around with that System Shock grin.
Two. I recently tried to play an Empathy defender again. I was quickly invited to a team after announcing my presence in AP. It was a Sewer Team. I stated that I am not a H341z0rz and as such don't reward stupid behavior like rushing forward into the next spawn or around a corner out of my line of sight.
<.<---...--->.>
*crickets*
boot.
I have found that the Heal-bots are either friends of the team lead playing for the sheer need of a "Healer". Or they are dual boxing and the heals are all they think they will need. I've even heard Empaths referred to as "priests" by new-to-the-game WoW players. Apparently all they expect or want is big green numbers.
Defending properly is probably the hardest thing to do in this game. -
I have an Energy/EM blaster who would love to make this guys day miserable. As a long term lover of Ill/??? controllers, I think this guy didn't want anyone messing up the "easy" button. I have to agree that the Tank in question was 9 kinds of in the wrong. If my teammates help, excellent. It's when they stand around and do nothing... that's when I start getting irritated.
Come to think of it, the only way this guy could have been more of an idiot was to ask you to ignore your primary altogether and be a pocket defender. -
Quote:Cant agree more, I was leveling up and accidentally put two *extra* slots into PP 'round about level 13. I felt like an idiot when it happened, figuring I would respec' the mistake at 24. Just for kicks, I filled the slots with ACC, KB and a Recharge. Loved it kept it. Missed the extra slot but it made PP go from fun to awesome.Power Push really is a hidden gem that a lot of people don't take. It is just more knockback, but it is guaranteed knockback with better than sniper level accuracy. Even with only a single ACC slotted, it will rarely ever miss and its mag is high enough to knock back virtually anything not immune to the effect.
If you're going with a blappper build, then yeah this is a good idea. Come to think of it, CJ gives a blaster much needed defenses. -

I don't think plant needs to be nerfed.
I think other primaries, particularily grav and mind, need to be brought up to plant's level.
I mean, yeah, plant is broken in that, when it was made (for villains), it wasn't balanced around the user having containment. When it was ported over, it made for a damn good set, everything a controller set should be.
But honestly, why should controlling be slow and laborous? Why not have our cake and eat it too? After all, there's no sense in having cake if you can't eat it, right? It says right in the at description that controllers grow to be the strongst characters in the game, but save for a few well-known combinations, they really don't seem that way.
Leave plant alone, buff everything else =) -
Quote:Energy/energy was my first blaster also. Believe me when I say that running out of end and a quick death is what make true blaster players know they're doing their jobs correctly. If you're more masochistic than the run of the mill blaster, try Fire/energy, or Fire/Fire.Okay..so this is the deal..this toon is my very first toon ever and my first build ever. ive been playing CoH for about 4 months now..pretty new and i feel like ive hit a wall..im about to retire my character after ALL THIS TIME i put in it to get to lvl45. my troubles are,
1:My toon uses SO much END im empty almost after 5 attacks
2:i have no defense what so ever! i cant take on more than 4 people atta time(+1 level or +2 or same) i die very quickly!
Quote:ive heard of IO's obviously but i really dont understand how to use them at all. right now im using SO enhancements which obviously arent doin the trick. please please help me and dont worry PLEASE ITS OKAY TO TALK TO ME like i DONT KNOW A THING haha because im pretty new at this and i dont mind you takin it slow.
so..hmm..i need to know what IO sets i should set! help!
Quote:ill make it easy.
the powers i DIDNT choose are:
power bolt
power push
energy punch
bone smasher
stun
powerboost
and boost range
my epic pool i chose electrical mastery
my travel is Flight
i have leadership
i have TP
hope you can help!
1: Power Blast
1: Power Thrust
2: Energy Punch
What I have found, is that /energy has some of the hardest hitting *melee* attacks in the game. Once you shed your fear of melee, you can outpace scrappers in damage output.
4: Build Up
/energy gets theirs first.... why not grab it early.
6: Power Burst
8: Air Superiority
I too love the Flight power pool. This melee attack, has a ton of knock up and hits you target with -fly if you are both airborne.
10: Bone Smasher
12: Aim
Here it is... what should become your opening combo in every fight. Aim + Build Up (BU).
14: Fly
16: Hurdle
18: Health
20: Stamina
Get it, Live it, Love it, 3 slot it.
22: Power Bolt
Now you may be wondering; "Why is he waiting 'til his 20's to pick up a tier one power?". because most of the mez you face doesn't start showing up til around 20. Also there's just so much cool stuff ya need to get first.
24: Stimulant
your team is there to help you survive. If they get mez'ed, they aren't doing their job.
26: Explosive Blast
28: Aid Self
Self gratification.... yay!
30: Resuscitate
See Stimulate.
32: NOVA.
I love this power... but I know saying that can re-spark an age old battle between elder gods and bring about the apocolypse.
35: Boost Range
38: Total Focus
41: Personal Force Field
44: Temp Invulnerability
47: Force of Nature
49: Swift
I'm actually thinking of changing something out for Conserve Power but I dont know where or what to change. I'll figure it out later. I don't want to threadjack you. -
thanks for the responses. And yes I know that AR/Pain have 0 or less synergy. I actually meant for this to be a DPS build with healing as more of a utility. So I can see slotting the attacks sooner. I also see what you're saying about Ignite. My thought was after Buckshot knocks over a spawn, ignite can finish them off.
-
Since the links to the guides are still down, and my search fu sucks, I've decided to go directly to the populace and ask for help. Why? Because this is my first AR anything (archetype-wise). Also, Pain is not as similar to Emp as I thought it was.
Here's the build I'm thinking about. I haven't placed IO sets or anything like that. Just assume that they all have Lvl 50 IO enhancements. My MIDS export didn't work so I've tried to make it as readable as possible.

Quote:Yes, but then you miss one of the points I like about the Energy Blast set. It lets you feel Super Powered by knocking and throwing around your targets like, well, ragdolls. Other games I have played *coughWoW*, which lack this game mechanic make things *feel* a little too pew pew pew for me.[ QUOTE ]
... which could all be fixed if NCSoft would just get over themselves and change KB to KD, or give us enhancements to do it ourselves. And then it would go from being a counter-productive powerset to being one to rival fire, and all those pretty graphics and animations wouldn't be going to waste.
[/ QUOTE ]
This right here ^^, KB is good for solo blaster that want to keep the enemy at range, however, most blaster secondaries require you to be in melee range. As for corrs, personally I know I am not a good support character tried defenders and corrs and I am just not good with them but I could see how that KB could be a problem like with /rad a lot of those debuffs require the foes to be grouped, kinda defeating the purpose if you are knocking them all away. Honestly though I think KD would make the set a lot better for all ATs that have the set. You can enhance it and turn it into KB if you want to. -
So after all of these replies the answer is yes. Or, more importantly, who cares. try it out and have fun. Since I started this game on of my favorite time killing past times is getting to a rooftop with baddies in range. TP Foe + Power Thrust = good times.
-
I've decided to give Dom's a try. After some thought I went with Mind / Psi. And I'm getting conflict between a guide I've read here on the forums and what the game says. And that conflicting issue is:
The game says that Telekinetic Thrust does High damage. The guide says that it does laughable damage.
So my question is: Is Telekinetic Thrust worth it? Also, what other powers should I be sure to include or exclude to ensure I dont want to chew off my fingers in the future?
Thanks for any advice you can give. -
I'd have to agree with Alluvion. Fire/Nrg is sounding like the combo for which you are searching. With fire you get massive amounts of floaty orange numbers in the AoE's of the powerset. But with AoE comes aggro. Enter your secondary, NRG. Many of the NRG melee attacks hit harder than most primary blasts. Also you get Build Up at 4th level with /NRG.
I have a Fire/NRG blaster on Guardian and she's a hoot to play. What doesn't die in the initial Build Up/Fireball/Fire Breath chain rushes towards me to get beaten to death by glowie red orbs of death. -
Archery has a perfectly good cone attack in FoA available to it at 2nd level as a blaster. The problem I see is that the set is mostly lethal.
