For some reason he just stopped fighting. Thought the truth was Hell was having an effect on his mind.

Blood he tasted blood not the cold faded blood taste of a rare or even raw peice of meat but hot sticky blood. Fresh blood he opened his eyes bodies were about him. Bodies of people he knew people he came to trust. All dead... he felt a weight in his arms and looked down.

In his arms was a woman dressed in a Night Widows uniform her throat was ripped out but the blood was gurgling. She was alive he looked down in horror at her face and her eye. She had only one the other was lost long ago hidden by an eye patch. The other had a look of fear and pain... and perhaps worst of all Love. Then the gurgling stopped and her head fell back as she died.

"NOOOOOOOOOO!! CARMELA!" He shook her knowing there was nothing he could do. He killer her! Killed the only woman he loved, the woman he would gladly die again a thousand times to save and he killed her!

"Give in Ron, your one of us! Submit to your nature rise up and feast on the living!" Ron looked up to see the Monstrous Zombie Nightmare standing before him.

The Nightmare smiled as it motioned to Carmela's body "Are you going to finish that? After all you don't want her returning to share your cur.. oh to late.

Carmela's hand reached up and the night widow spikes drove into his gut.

In reality of Hell at that time a spiky demon drove a thorn spike into his gut as well. Then...

(( couldn't you send some Machine to terminate the Organic contamination? Explain why life can't survive. Besides if your Reavers can cheat why can't the MAGICAL life of a Heart tree cheat as well? Being Magical in nature it be more resistant to hostile environments I already established the Heart tree can adapt seeds and even seeds of the other trees in the Aura. Besides story wise the Seeds even altered by the mutation wouldn't sprout and grow for months and would take years to be strong enough to resist outside threats. So they will die anyway. Also Natural Seeds can go dorment for a long time till conditions are right to grow so even planted the seeds might not sprout anyway. Also logically it could be said once the nursery case is empty the seedling would die. Besides Deserts aren't lifeless hence I been calling it the Waste. For Paradigm_Shift the Seeds would still spread the contamination to what ever life it contacts in Paragon. ))

The tree ships moved like the Mutated one flying out in all directions planting the seeds. Where ever the scanners detected what was needed to grow.

In the case of the mutated Tree ship the Water supply would be very deep the remains of the lake that used to be there before the Desert appeared to cover it.

For the defenses of the Ships themselves physically the defenses weren't strong perhaps harder then a Hardwood tree. The Protective forcefield generated by the magic aura however was enough to protect the ships from the harshness of space.

Before you get to heavy in the Hollows. You might want to head to Kings Row Grab a Police scanner. The scanner is added to your contacts list and would offer three random short missions. Do enough of them and you get a Safeguard. (Villains get newspapers and Mayhem missions)

The Safeguard Mission is you stopping NPC Villains from robbing a bank. Do that and it offers a reward the first levels 5-10 is Atlas Park and the Raptor Flight jet pack. 10-15 is Kings row bank and it's a Super Jump Zero-g Pack. Other rewards is a self Rez, Summon team Teleport power and other goodies.

All are temporary they do run out after a time but can be helpful.

Yeah Blasters are Squshy. They have a lot of damage dealing but often end up face planted. It's a standard thing for Blasters to keep awakens in inspiration innovatory.

Yup that's patrol XP. You get it automatically when log off. You can also get EXTRA boosts from Day Jobs.

For example Log out at a Police station /Arachnos Base. You get extra XP bonus at the end of missions.

Patrol XP is blue, Debt is dark pink.

Oh yes do play Villains as well.

It's not half the game it's a GAME in itself. Two games for the price of one. City of Heroes and City of Villains. Villains was released to be independent of Heroes or work with it.

In truth Going Rogue will be the first TRUE payed expansion. New Beginning level content levels 1-20. But unlike Villains you will need the City of Heroes Game already.

Most important thing. DO NOT RUSH TO 50! enjoy the game stories take your time. we even can turn off XP gain and stay in what ever level we want. That option is under MENU/Option/miscellaneous.

Okay lets see if I can be of a bit more help.

[*]Many of the replies indicated that no particular type of class is needed in an instance/group (And yes, I come from the "holy trinity" type mmorpg). In these types of mmorpgs, the instance that does not require the trinity could be viewed as one that is not challenging. One of the things that attracted me to this game is reading posts that indicated that grouping is needed at times ( I read this as the game has challenge). So is their challenge in the grouping? Where am I getting confused here?

Difficulty can be adjusted. you can choose to fight foes -1 to your level all the way up to fighting foes +4 levels of your current level. On top of that you can increase the amount of foes you face. All the way to facing the same amount of foes if you were on a full team of 8 heroe/Villains. (The contact to make these adjustments show up as a blue figure on white dot on the minimap that you can access by pressing M in the game.)
[*]Super groups. I take it super groups are guilds? If the game is heavily instanced and not much population is immediately available in the open world. Is the best place to search one out on the server boards or is there someplace in game.[/LIST]
Supergroups are useful if you find a good one. Joining a Global chat channel is another way.

Note Trial accounts are limited to basic Chat options to reduce SPAMMERS I'm sure you seen them those who advertise X amount of In game currency for X amount of real life cash. Only a full account has access to Global Channels. Your Global Name is the same as the Name of your first character created. You can change this once under options.

We are very glad to have you back and the game has evolved from what you seen before. Now on to your questions...
[*]I think I have the basics of the archetype system, but am quite confused as to which powersets to use with any given character. I'm concerned that my choices now will nerf my superheroe in later gameplay. Are there any detailed overviews out there to help me with my decisions?

The powers are balance mostly but each type has a bonus effect and slightly different style. You won't nerf yourself but some Powers might fit your game play better then others. For example the Tanker. A Willpower/Dark Melee plays diffrently then a Stone/Fire. Reason is the Stone Fire tanker has more AOE attacks. My 50 Tanker is a Willpower/Darkmelee and I love playing him. Thought I Solo mostly and it fit my style. Main thing is Try them all! you got 12 starting character slots in each server!
[*]I'm somewhat attracted to the tank and controller archetypes. My experience with the tank in other mmorpgs is that one needs to know the game in order to play the tanker well; is this the case with this game?

This game is easier to get a handle on the basics. That said the system can be confusing when you include Invention Enhancements. Go to the Archetype Forum page and check out some builds that been posted or just ask for build advice. Note Tankers are late bloomers they really start to become "Super" around 20-25 some even all the way to 32. That said they can be fun. (In teams they are Argo controllers in away making sure they are the ones being attacked instead of the team. So be prepared!)

[*]Are tankers/controllers a needed/wanted archetype for grouping in the game?

NO NO and thankfully No. Having the Triforce of Tank/Healer/DPS dealer is GREAT! It's not needed! Any mix of Archetypes can make a good team if the players know how to handle the characters. A team of Controllers (8 Max) can be untouchable as well as a team of Scrappers.
[*]Are tankers/controllers reasonable solo classes for the time when groups are not available.

Most of these builds can Solo alright but not the best. That said it's up to the powers and power choices. As I said before I have a Willpower/Dark Melee who very good at Soloing but not as good in a team. The powers lack major Auras to be an Argo magnate.
[*]Is there crafting or a player economy in the game? Not a biggy, just want to know what I'm facing if I subscribe.

We have Wentworths/Black market for buying and selling Salvage/Recipes. You Use the Salvage to construct Temp powers/Costume parts (example are tech wings)/Invention Enhancements
[*]Which server? Obviously looking for a server with reasonable population and adult super groups.

Freedom and Virtue are the most popular right now. Virtue is the major Role Playing server so your best bet to find Supergroups that role play "Adult"

The Devs are also limited on what a system going on it's 7th year can handle.

Some limits like body types are hard wired from when Crypt had control. So adding four armed figures is not possible. (Or so I believe).

Double check your Firewall too!

One firewall I had allowed me to log in but when I tried to enter a server it would block it and I couldn't enter the game.

Well I did say Dying not dead. Hmm I do see your point thought perhaps the Scientist seen him in the Hospital after all there are a lot of cybernetic hero/villains about. No stretch of imagination that he was on call to the hospital to help repair some.

Need to elaborate on how much time it was between the lost of his family and his attempt at suicide.

Might want to make it that he was dying and saved instead of trying to kill himself. After all having your arms cut off not a minor wound.

As for name look up a few boxer's or Wrestlers names perhaps that can inspire you.
