Returning after hiatus - New Computer
Please post a CoH Helper and HiJack This log. My first guess would be that your video drivers are out of date, but can't know for sure without those reports.

Double check your Firewall too!
One firewall I had allowed me to log in but when I tried to enter a server it would block it and I couldn't enter the game.
Thought this sounds like another type problem but that what came to my mind.
I am able to run WoW as well as Champions online just fine on the computer so I don't see why it would be having an issue with CoX.
Any thoughts or ideas? |
Trying to compare the two as far as performance is rather useless.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
First of all, those two games you list are DirectX games. CoH is OpenGL.
Trying to compare the two as far as performance is rather useless. |
That being said, you have to tell WoW to use the OpenGL renderer on Windows: http://eu.blizzard.com/support/artic...rticleId=19391
So yes, you can compare WoW's performance to CoH's performance. You just can't compare the default installations.

... your graphics drivers are from 2008.
and they appear to be OEM versions with stripped OpenGL support.
For reference, WoW does have a native OpenGL renderer. Blizzard is a Khronos Contributer and they maintain a native OSX client without using any WINE developed or derived tech.
That being said, you have to tell WoW to use the OpenGL renderer on Windows: http://eu.blizzard.com/support/artic...rticleId=19391 So yes, you can compare WoW's performance to CoH's performance. You just can't compare the default installations. |
Most people that offer DirectX games "running fine" as comparisons don't know that there is an OpenGL renderer available for WoW or how to enable it. At least, based on my previous experience.
In this instance, I'm fairly certain that they are using the default DirectX installation of WoW since they'd be having similar problems if they were trying to use the OpenGL renderer on WoW.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
Alright, so I have been able to log in, but now after no more than perhaps a minute and a half the game locks down and tells me my video card has an error and has recovered.
I am not able to use the ATI Radeon drivers as they do not support my Toshiba laptop, but I did go to toshiba.com and download new drivers.
So...I am a step or two closer, but the issue is not fully resolved.
The way I resolved the initial issue was by logging in under safe mode and changing my resolution from 800x600 to the desktop setting.

okay. You'll have to do this the hardway then.
Go Here: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php
follow the instructions to install an updated driver for your graphics card.
Just checked.
The most recent Driver Toshiba offers for your laptop... is from 09/16/08
It's still almost near as makes no difference 2 YEARS OLD.
I am returning to the game after a year long Hiatus.
I have a new laptop which is a Toshiba Satellite A355-S6935
The video card is an:
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
I was able to log in fine, but after selecting my server my comp would freeze up.
I was finally able to log in under "safe mode" but once again after trying to improve my graphics settings the game would freeze.
I am able to run WoW as well as Champions online just fine on the computer so I don't see why it would be having an issue with CoX.
Any thoughts or ideas?
