It looks awesome from a side view, but straight on it looks weird.. Then again, maybe it's the off blue the helmet is that's causing the weirdness.
The problem I'm seeing in this an other shots is Chris Evans' posture. He looks like they strapped a 2x4 to his spine. I get the impression the problem is the neck of the helmet. Didn't they have that same issue with the Batman costume, necessitating a redesign of the neck for the last film?
  2. The moment the nation hears there's a super running loose in my city, the media will descend on it, as will every tourist imaginable, causing crime and harm to skyrocket as people set stupid traps to try to capture the super. That makes the police mad, the governor calls out the National Guard to assist, and the president offers to assist by having Langley watch the city from spy satellites. I'm not nearly as concerned with helicopters as I am with the unseen "eye in the sky". It becomes the biggest regional manhunt since the DC snipers.

At that point, I will suddenly show up briefly in the city 60 miles north.

Actually, I cannot think of doing anything but being the hero. Not because I'm a glory hound, but because it is the chance to do right. I'm steeped in the lore of the "old" non-angst heroes (Lone Ranger, Phantom, Sgt. Preston, Doc Savage, etc.) and I can't see myself shirking the chance.

That said, I would probably begin making discrete inquiries into the full law regarding citizen's arrest. I'd also look into training to be a SWAT team member and see if I could not take a legal way to use the suit.

oh, so that's it? Hmm...I had been thinking it was more than a 1-shot deal. If it is a repeating invasion, I'm noting that it is in Talos and Sharkshead, right around the level where free players might be deciding this game might be worth paying for. Giving them an occasional taste of Praetoria might push them over the edge.

Also, I think Duray needs a voice and it needs to be actor Jeffrey Combs. After this reading, Duray is the new Weyoun. All of him.
  4. of the rogues in The Animated Series, there's a great many that would either kill or experiment on their own crew, the Joker being the foremost of that list.

I'm thinking the Riddler might keep you around, if only because your thuggish stupidity feeds his ego of mental superiority.

Roland Daggert might be fair to a hard-working crew too.

Mad Hatter might be okay, so long as he doesn't see you as a test subject. The downside is you'll probably have to wear a Doormouse costume.

Maxi Zeus might be okay, so long as you respect his "deity".

I'm not sure about Ra's al Ghoul. You'll have a hard job, but if you can keep up, I think he'll see you as one of his empire, and have a certain protectiveness of you, probably because he'll see his empire as an extention of himself.

Not sure what the final characters will be, but I recently viewed online a bit of the filming of the sequence picture 10 was from. The actors were stage fighting a group of stunt men in outfits that reminded me a lot of that worn by Andy Sirkis filming the Gollum stuff. In other words, the outfits screamed CGI. At the time, I assumed it would be CGI armor, like Iron Man, but now that aliens have been mentioned...

    oh dear

Since you've not posted other details earlier, let me be on the safe side by asking: this mobo being considered, is it compatible with the current processor, RAM (type & # of slots), video card slot, power supply connections and hard drive connections? Also does it fit the form factor of your computer case?

Sorry, not trying to be insulting of your intelligence, just trying to be thorough.
  8. You do have to wonder, with a being with reality-shaping power "off the scale", how long until the Silence try to manipulate him to fight the Doctor?
  9. thanks for that Coin!

Clearly the lines are meant to force the reader into thinking of River and the Doctor. Contrarywise, the writers have played this game before, with deliberate puzzlements like who really was Melody's father.

It has everything you people seem to want in a new series: set after the Dominion War, exploration of new areas of space, what it means to be human, new aliens, conflict between different factions and the Federation, and even the nonhuman captain.

Captain M’k’n’zy Calhoun isn’t human. He looks very much like a human, but his history and motivations, while very much understandable are not the same.

The crew, while having a lot of humans has a lot of nonhumans highlighted in the books.
One species is hermaphroditic and the officer becomes both father of one child and mother of another as the series progresses.
We have two Vulcans. But we have variety in that one is actually a Vulcan/Romulan hybrid (and emotional control issues) and the other lost her mate on their wedding/PonFar night (and all the attendant mental scarring that entails).
We have a Thing-like rock alien who (of course) is the security chief.
Another alien crew member is described as rather like a cross between a sasquatch and a bat.
And there are numerous others that I can’t recall right now.
We even get some stories focused on the ‘night crew’.

The series is set in a new-to-us sector of space. This gives us new aliens to meet and new factions to come into conflict with. And new planets to see.

The biggest problem with bringing the series to screen would be the inclusion of several characters first seen in TNG: Robin Lefler (played by Ashley Judd in TNG) and Elizabeth Shelby (played by Elizabeth Denehy in TNG). Both roles are now 20 years in the past. However, both characters could be ejected or replaced by others and a series would still be fun to watch.

However, with the following the novel series has, we probably won’t see it turned in to film as we would have the same ‘book to film’ problems we seem to have with so many other books that are turned into movies. See Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings for examples of “they didn’t do it that way in the books”, “the books are better,” and “why did they leave out this part?”
ah, there you are! I'd been wondering when you would show up.

For what its worth, I agree it'd make an interesting series. As to the older cast referenced, I think Abrams' film broke the ice for recasting of parts. Younger actresses in the roles of Lefler and Shelby should not be a problem.
  11. Just finished watching it. It was okay. I think it really did a good job of fitting the original concept of the show, which was a show for young people.

I didn't really feel the danger in this one. Not like, say, the Weeping Angels or the Vashta Narada. The weird, yes, the danger, no.

    SPOILERS

Every once in a while, my poor American ears don't pick up on some of the wording because of British accents. I'm unclear what they were calling the alien du jour and some of the details. I gather its a reality-bending creature, and somehow bonds with societies alien to it, but I really didn't catch the details.

I'm also unclear why the child's song was used at the end. Are they implying something about the alien knows something about the Doctor's fate? It seemed a little silly to again bring up the obituaries. Those who've followed the season know it very well. So I'm guessing I missed something that would justify showing it again.
  12. Generally either I have the concept in mind first, or I'm wanting to try a new power set/archetype combo. Normally the name comes last. About the only time I go name first is when I'm building additional characters within a group concept. So, even then really, the concept in general comes first. The only exception in my toybox, at least that I can remember, was Streetwise Hercules, who started as a phrase in a song, and only when I heard it did I begin to speculate on how to personify it if I turned the phrase into a name.

Regarding the costume, I usually have worked out a name before I complete the costume. Some 1st slot costumes I might toss together quickly and develop as the character levels, basically retconning what his original outfit was.

    oh dear

Silly question, but dead mobo or dead power supply affecting mobo (and therefore no POST)? The latter might be easy to replace with a run down to an office supply store.
  14. I assume we're talking a daytime fight, too. 'cause with night vision and camouflage, the Marines would rule the night.

Also another thing about the Romans. Despite Hollywood depictions, the Romans were not a consistently equipped fighting force. The armor of the individual soldier would vary depending on personal expenditures, what the government might provide, or what your general might be willing to bestow on you.

Regarding Marine body armor: so it can deflect a bullet. Would not their gear also have to prepare for bayonet or long knife? Assuming yes (and they're not just trained to dodge) then spear and short sword of iron might not be as effective.

This could be quite effective, especially when targeting leadership and ranged siege weapon workers that do not understand that their clearly marked armor, and in some cases, formal positioning, will get them wiped out pretty quickly. The troops may be well trained, but there will be coordination problems with the leadership down.

Both sides get AoE, right? catapults and the like on Roman side, grenades, mortars and such on Marine side?

One thing to consider, when saying the Romans can rush the Marine and overwhelm them, is the bodies. There will be a lot of corpses stacking, littering the field. These, in such quantity will create barriers to any organized advance, extending the carnage. Initial carnage will be heavy due to the interlocking shield tactics, which are just begging to be mowed down.

That brings me to the American Civil War. Wasn't this exactly the problem in the Civil War? Modern weapons with old formation tactics. Heavy carnage. The problem there was that both sides had the weapons and the old tactics.

Someone pointed out the Zulu war, another good example. The Battle of Rorke's Drift, as depicted in the movie Zulu, showed the English concerns to be their limited ammo supply. I'm guessing Marines of 130 years later would have that as their one concern when facing 250,000

The Phantom? that... is just outright puzzling. I loved that movie. I guess I'm just easier to please than most. Seriously, good actors, look, lore, and feel was right, the script left something to be desired.

And since we're pointing out major suspensions of belief, might I note that Independence Day allowed an entire advanced space-faring armada to be wiped out by an Apple computer with a virus, while every guy that ever took a flight lesson is suddenly dogfighting in F-16s. (I like it too. )
  17. What is the very model of a modern...
    Renaissance man? or woman?

I'm not sure if it was my brief contemplation of the steampunk wings and comparing them to DaVinci's designs or some other fleeting thought, but I was wondering today what would make a practical Renaissance man or woman of this day and age?

If I had children and wanted to teach them to be such an ideal, (or was going really, really deep in designing RP heroes) are they still to learn art, biology, agriculture, engineering, politics? Do I teach them Latin? Have them master Greek classics and politics? Do we "sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the death of kings"? Do I abandon or heavily moderate Shakespeare and the past in favor of training in computers, astrophysics, and future tech?

What makes a good and practical Renaissance person in today's world? Can there even be one?
  18. Two stubborn hours and several wipes later the team finally realized that its not good to draw all the Tsoo sorcerers in a 3-tiered room within healing range of each other. (I think this effect has been nerfed sometime in the 5 or 6 years since it happened.)

I also learned on my very first Nemesis mission ever that Nems have a great eye care plan, far better than other villains. Immediately thereafter I also learned that I really needed to focus on acquiring kb protection.

Interesting, so the ones choosing to live more primitive lives outside the city are classified as Time Lords? Its been decades since I saw the Baker episodes, so my memory may be dull on that point.
  20. Could go for a 1942: Axis and Allies movie myself. Set it as an alternate timeline. I suspect though, it'd have to be a trilogy to fit a global story.

For a more narrowed theater of war, Stratego might make a good period piece.

I'd also think there's good potential for a racing movie out of the Milles Bornes card game.
  21. Though neither of the examples given is really the deal breaker for me, I do wish he'd work instead on the prequel trilogy. Edit a personality into Hayden's wooden performance. Editing in a heartfelt romance would be good as well.

In the 'modern' series they do it with a gold glowy effect and morphing software.
Personally, though the golden glowy effect is cool, I liked the transformation in the movie. Shifting his jaw around trying to fit it into the changing shape of the skull was rather awesome, in a disquieting sort of way.

One other point about Time Lord regenerations: The regeneration energies the Time Lord unleashes during the process linger in his/her body for several hours after the transformation. Its like a massive release of adrenaline, it doesn't go away immediately. The Doc is usually a bit barmy for a while after the shock of the tranformation, since his altered personality is still settling in.

Speaking of "bouncing around" you've got a few of your doctors out of place. I've adjusted the highlighted links above to help.
