how many roads must a man walk down? 42!
mice are suddenly curious about me for some reason... -
Pretty sure I am. Earliest memory, thanks to parents, was getting to watch Neil Armstrong moonwalk. the hard way. Also was allowed to watch the Apollo 13 events, and much later the Apollo-Soyuz meeting.
Watched TV on a cabinet unit. Big and heavy. Saw Sesame Street and Electric Company in first seasons, Bonanza was still running, Ironside was Mom's favorite show, though Mary Tyler Moore Show was a good second. I liked first-runs of Mayberry R.F.D., the follow-up to The Andy Griffith Show, though I was too young to have remembered the earliest episodes.
Petula Clark's upbeat Downtown was still playing in all the department stores on Main Street. To this day, that song can immediately bring back a sharp memory of all the sensory experiences of the late 60's / early 70's. (kids' sensory experiences, not the psychedelic kind) Flowered VW vans were a common site. Seriously.
Politically, I was kept from full knowledge of a war (my uncle was just "in the army". I thought he was around a base, like Gomer Pyle), but I was allowed to watch Richard Nixon resign. There was a lot of news chatter and setup before hand, and I remember thinking, "this is taking forever!"
Despite the world's turmoil, and not having any home computers, that was a marvelous time to be a kid.
Too Old? Pfftth! Don't make me laugh. There'll be 6 guys lowering me into a hole before I'm too old. (actually, make that 4 guys. Cost of inflation, ya know...) -
Quote:I could go for this concept.
Focus on a small, up-and-coming Super-Group during the Rikti War, and their struggle to make their mark, save the day, and still be people. Im ready for a superhero movie to touch my heart, and get it racing at the same time. Some have accomplished this expertly, and boy did I love it.
My take would be a bit different though, and would include signature heroes, just more limited.
Its time-honored movie tradition to have a up-and-coming hero (and audience) bond with a mentor, only to have the mentor die or otherwise leave the scene heroically, leaving the junior hero to mourn, then rise to the challenge.
Have the focus on three groups: a newbie team, Omega squad (as the mentor unit), Alpha squad there as scenery until the fight for the portal. The audience lives emotionally through Newbie Team. Get the audience to love Omega squad, particulary Hero 1 who shows a fatherly guidance of Newbie Team. Start the war. Watch desperation grow, and the Newbie Team rise to the challenge, but not enough to stop the onslaught. Run the Alpha and Omega gambit with Newbie Team begging to come along. Denied: there must be a "Horatio" to tell the tale and carry on. Audience is in full tear mode as Ajax caught on our side of the portal, weeps at being unable to "die" with his friends. Phalanx gives traditional hope speeches, yadda yadda, and declares capes must be earned in honor of Hero 1. Newbie Team is shown as first to earn the right, and concludes with them wearing the capes and picking up where Omega Squad left off. -
Quote:You ever notice, though, that he only sings part of it? He was a beta tester in 1892. Beta took longer back then. One problem with that cartoon. They show the frog as having been sealed into the building in 1892, but when he comes out, he sings the song "Hello! Ma Baby" which wasn't composed until 1899.
OOPS!
Is the time capsule the only definitive future date we have in the lore? Yes, yes, I know we have the Coming of the Great White Hankerchief...uh..hmm...*checks notes*...um, the Coming Storm, but its got no specific date. -
This.
Mine's called Control Tower and I refer to him as my Army of One. A friend of mine, Baron Dogfight, who'd logged over 36 months in the game, returned to the game after an absence and played alongside C.T. at level 48. I swear he found a way to drop his character's jaw after my first all-out attack. With crafted enhancements its a phenominal build. -
sure, I've done some stuff that could be called "farming".
Back in the day, my roommates and I used to follow yard sales, store closings, storage shed auctions, that kind of stuff, hoping to find bulk sports cards and comic books at discount prices, then sort through them to find the money makers. We'd sell those at the local flea market, and sell the rest for whatever we could get to the card and comic shops. We didn't get rich, but it was good mad money for guys right out of college. I remember finding a Willie Mays which due to the unique photo (he'd had a black eye the day it was taken) was worth $100 in 1992 currency.
And we didn't limit ourselves to cards and comics. I still remember a storage auction where a roommate paid 40 bucks for a piece of professional sound equipment. I think it was an amplifier. He took it to the guy in town who sold expensive upscale sound systems to businesses and rich people. The guy recognized the item, not just model but serial number. He used to service that very item. Turned out to be some fancy piece from a closed nightclub. It was worth a couple of thousand. It blew my mind when my roommate didnt cash out, but instead traded it for a new upscale sound system. -
with respect, won't the whole Going Rogue stuff make co-op kind of pointless? Soon after its release we'll have masterminds in Atlas. Of course, if because a specific tank is now a villain you must have a co-op to play with him as opposed to a host of remaining hero tanks, then I suppose co-op it is.

sorry if this has been mentioned before. I'm not really certain what key words to search.
we have some interactable devices in-game. I'm thinking primarily of bombs. I'd like to know, though, can other interactive damage devices (aka "traps") be added? Some that come to mind would be pendulum blades making surprise swings from the ceilings of Oranbega, or poison darts from holes in cave walls (ala the opening of Raiders of the Lost Ark) -
Quote:And the first improvement of players would have to be the team lead. I've had several that have called for "mission in the hollows" only to dump Atta on us after we've all appeared. I realize newbie leaders might not know what they're getting into, but its disrespectful of the other players' potential time needs not to be up front about it in the invitation. Even then, they try to make it a "clear all" mission. IMHO, it would be better to state that we're driving straight towards Atta, no side trails.Sorry, but I enjoy the Atta mish as is. It used to be that players knew what to expect up front and were willing to man up for the task
We need to improve the players, not the mission
(just kidding, but some players do get whiny about any little thing like a long mission)
Last time I enjoyed an Atta mission was when a team lead surprised us by using an exploit to pull 2 teams into the same mission. 15 players can do a lot of damage in that mission! (ps...its an exploit. I don't recommend trying it.)
I suppose if you reworked Atta it could be more interesting if there were multiple bosses leading up to him, like the Warrior mission using the same map from the gal in Midnighter's club. Or some nice surprises like ambushes or patrols (last I recall it was all static groups).
After 600+ runs on Frostfire, I wouldn't mind seeing some minor tweaking there. Mostly I'd be seeking a few more named bosses working at various points in the building.
Though I can't recall who issues them, there are a couple of Tsoo missions with too many sorcerors in the same big room. I've had a couple of those drag on forever due to all the mutual healing going on. Wouldn't mind seeing a rework on that. -
Quote:Nihilii, just curious, is that still an accurate number after Issue 16 release? I took a break about the same time you did, and was initially shocked at the numbers drops upon my return. I play USA east coast time early evenings, and was seeing ~700 on Freedom for a few days, but I've not followed it closely.I use the /search feature multiple times daily, always did ; in fact, it shows interesting trends over a long enough time period.
From when I joined (nov 2008) to june 2009, heroside population on Freedom at European hours (during the 12h - 22h timeframe, GMT +1) was consistently in the ~700 range.
Since september 2009 (I took a break during july/august so can't pinpoint a specific dropoff), it's down to ~400 at the exact same hours.
Freedom still consistently shows as the most populated server, being last on the list unless my previous played alt was from Freedom (which bumps the server to the top). -
Is GR the next issue/expansion for certain? Or is there still a possibility of Issue 17 before then? I've not followed it closely, so I don't know timeframes.
I'd personally like to see them get quadraped wireframes up and running. Some of the villain groups would look great with guard dogs. Some wild predators in Eden might liven up the place too. And I've fought through thousands of sewers without seeing a rat...nor a gator. That just ain't right. -
Its been years since I was a youth, so I may be way off-mark nowadays, but are there any youth hostels in the area you could use as an alternative? Used to be you could stay dirt cheap at them. There are often conditions though.
don't see a listing for food money there. You probably have that covered, but I'm just noting it because I've been on trips where others forget to bring enough, or forget that prices are higher in a destination.
Wouldn't hurt to have a little emergency money on you for the unexpected. Like washing your only other outfit in the hotel laundry when that guy bumps into you spilling his drink.
As Rush_Bolt noted, keep a few medicines handy. I used to work business conventions and was surprised when I became very sick once. I now carry a small supply of medicines like Advil, Imodium, Dayquil capsules, etc. cause its hard looking for a pharmacy when you're suddenly sick with the common flu (like I was). Hand sanitizer would also be useful. Do make certain though that you know any government regulation for carrying medicines (or anything else for that matter) on public transportation. -
ambushes to me are one of the highlight points of the action. As long as its not completely impossible to survive a larger group, I'll enjoy the nail-biting "will he make it" combat.
One or two in an ambush, oh puhleees. It better be a Malta Sapper and a Zeus 'bot minimum. Well that, or they're delivering pizza. I may let them walk for that. But anything less, I drop them, then stomp on their corpses until I feel like I've got 10 kills. -

Then Blue Steel must have handed his title and position over to Bucky the Wonder Boy first, 'cause there's no way Clockwork King could, uh, clean the original's clock.

Just had my first full teaming since I16 last night, and I've seen a negative. Most of the team had picked BRIGHT colors with over-saturation, and with all those buffs on ever character and ever effect, I found myself literally getting sick. My eyeballs were actually hurting. I'm guessing the effect might not be so bad in open air missions, but in tight quarters fighting it was painful. Might do for some to keep in mind that sometimes a little subtlety in color is actually a good thing.
Now the second team I went with last night had understood this, and it was a beautiful sight. Lots of fun!
Oh, and I'm really liking the super sk / exemplar stuff. Especially the xp for exemplar. We had a guy ready to quit right after joining because it was below his level, until he realized he could get xp too. -
Quote:Bless you for the effort! But didn't I hear you are job hunting? I'm thinking my viewing pleasures for a Friday deadline are not anywhere near as important as that.Let's get them all out of the way...
WHO: Samuraiko. Dark_Respite. That chick who makes videos.
WHAT: Has made an I-16 trailer.
WHY: Because 10 players or so are hellbent on me not retiring.
WHEN: By Friday.
WHERE: Meh-to-decent-rez version on my YouTube channel (subscribe if you want INSTANT NOTIFICATION), and high-rez version on the Videos page of my website (and please don't hotlink directly to the video when I upload it... link to the page).
HOW: On YouTube, click PLAY. On my website, click the video's link. If you mean "how" as in, "how did she make it?", go to the aforementioned YouTube channel and watch my six-part series "Toons on Film." You'll get the idea. If instead you mean "how" as in "how could you do this?", thank (or blame) the aforementioned players who won't take "no" for an answer.
Did I miss anything?

hmm. If they've got a Highlander, I can't wait to see the neck option on the Kurgan set.

In the short time I was on, I was able to find a color combo that really made psionic blasting "pop". Can't wait to try it out in a team. Unfortunately, no one seems to be teaming. They're all in the tailor shops, including the "forgotten" one in IP. Walked into it and was surprised there was no lag there were so many.
Found one possible bug. On the very brief time I did manage to find a team, the team member locations frequently changed. Particularly from "on mission map" to some zone or other. They were not on a mission at the time. -
Life...its not just for breakfast anymore.
(I'm generally on the road or in on-call status during the downtimes.)
Quote:Really? I'm intrigued. I've heard practically zip about the game since it came out. Which at the time I'd heard it garnered 3 stars and 2 yawns. I'm interested in your take on why its awesome.Other games I'm playing right now include ... Pirates of the Burning Sea (this game is awesome....awesome!), ...I don't have a console game system.
I've got a console...original Atari 2600. I'm waiting for Halo to come out on it. -

Easy. Ace Barnstormer, my MA/SR scrapper homage to Jack Armstrong, the Lone Ranger, Green Hornet, Shadow, and just about every old radio hero you can imagine.
Close second: Ray Gunn, my energy blaster homage to Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, and all those wonderful wacky old sci-fi serials. -

Mine was created with 6 characters taken from my full name. I'd been trying anagrams of my name, trying to find something that sounded good on a human champion for Lord of the Rings Online. I realized taking only these 6 of the 18 characters gave me a workable name that sounded (to me anyway)like one of Strider's rangers. I've since left LotRO, but kept the name.
By the way, I pronounce it with long O's and with 3 syllables, not 2. Ro-do'-an.
Previously, I'd used the name of my main, Ace Barnstormer.
