Quote:But our Val's origin has to do with science rather than magic. The spear transforms her using some kind of nannites.
Exactly my point.
Quote:Okay, well, fine, it's technobabble. It's still a magic (Sorry, pseudoscience) weapon turning somebody into a Norse Deity/Superhero.
Its like those pesky official-lore midi-chlorians elsewhere. Just wave your magic wand and make their existence disappear. Or if you prefer, put your fingers in your ears and sing a nice LaLaLa song.
EDIT: forgot to add: Kadabra Kill reminds me of Mandrake the Magician. -
Of all the troll threads in all the forums in all the world, I walk into this one.

If I were to describe me, I'd be exactly like how I play my ss/inv tank: overgrown Boy Scout leading the charge, first in, last out, guarding the flock. Since I'm not invulnerable and could scratch a finger on a sharp door grip, I tend to modify the real life with more caution. But in a team situation, I'm the guy who is the guardian leader: I drive a team forward, support and encourage others, and take the heat of angry management to protect the team. I also tend to hesistate if I don't see that team respond immediately to my leadership decisions, and sometimes weaken my leadership by constantly reevaluating whether I'm leading correctly. Its the same way with the tank. I'll only charge in when I'm certain all are ready and healed, so sometimes the impatient scrappers ignore the others and run past me.
Now if you were to ask my mom, she'd call me a mastermind (and she has). I was the kid that the adults always perceived as innocent when a group of kids got in trouble for pranks and such. Over time Mom realized I was the planner: setting things up, psyching up the other kids, then sending them out to do my bidding so my hands stayed clean.
Fortunately, that was my youth. I've since crossed over to the blue side.

Q,
Are you just going for movies? or are TV stuff fair game? -
Charade 1963 film with a bit of everything: espionage, theft, murder, mystery, romance. It helps that Henry Mancini wrote the famous theme, and that it boasts an all-star cast: Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, James Coburn, Walter Matthau, George Kennedy. I like the quote concerning it on Wikipedia:Quote:Just be sure not to read the plot on Wikipedia!!! It contains some serious spoilers that will ruin the major mysteries in the movie.
the best Hitchcock movie that Hitchcock never made.
The Caine Mutiny will probably satisfy your cerebral drama desire. It too boast an all-star cast headed by Humphrey Bogart, with Fred McMurray (dad on My Three Sons, and in several Disney films) turning in a surprisingly good serious performance.
Speaking of Fred McMurray, my favorite Disney film with him is Follow Me, Boys!, which also stars a very young Kurt Russell, and legendary screen actress Lilian Gish. The story follows several decades in the life of a jazz band player who decides to put down roots in a small American town, and ends up volunteering to start a Boy Scout troop. Russell plays the town drunk's son, who lashes out at the community while trying to hide the pain and embarrassment of his father's failing life. There is both drama and a lot of natural humor in this film, and like Disney films of the 50's and 60's, it has a heart-felt ending. I liked it, because as a former Scout, it reminded me of a lot of the fun and goofy things we did. -
Probably would use Ace Barnstormer, 'cause I love WW1 biplanes and old school pulp fiction so much. If I had to go with a lore-based character, then either Alistair Sutton, founder/leader of the Dawn Patrol (again with the WW1 flying aces), or maybe just simply M1 (again with the WW1 theme)

Quote:This could look great if several building in Croatoa were retcon'ed. The village is fine, but all the little brown buildings are cookie cutter creations.I don't know if this would look out of place in an American city, but I have always loved the Neo-Gothic (Gothic Revival, Victorian Gothic) style of architecture. It's my second favourite style after Art Deco. This style is often used for government buildings in the UK and Canada.
Some notable Neo-Gothic buildings include: ...

Actually, I'd like to see a smidgen of several clear historic architectural styles scatter through the city. A mish-mash of styles feels more "real". -

Quote:That would be NCSoft who took over from Cryptic Studios.just wanted to say thanks to whoever's running the show these days
Since then they've regrouped under the banner Paragon Studios, and the development team headed first by Positron, and now War Witch have made serious efforts to right injustices in the game and make it a wonderful experience.
Posi's not out of the picture, neither. In addition to Going Rogue, which GG mentioned, Positron is spearheading the effort for Issue 19, allegedly due this fall, which will introduce a robust new endgame system.
Oh, and welcome back! -
Quote:Was thinking much the same.I see the chronology of Primal vs. Praetorian Earth continues to get more garbled. We've been told Primal Shalice Tilman is over 80 years old, while Praetorian Tilman seems to be substantially younger (or would be, if her body were still alive). Don't even get me started on how Praetorian Hamidon appeared several decades before Primal Hamidon.
These things wouldn't bother me if I thought they were concious story decisions by the devs, but I'm pretty sure that they're just more examples of not checking the story bible for inconsistencies before adding pages to it.
Still, some nice background stuff.
Assuming both Shalice versions are of the same age, then we're looking at characters at least dating to 1930, and seeing as Shalice has been referred to "over 80" since the start of the game (I assume), then her birth might be closer to 1920. That said, Praetorian Shalice, battles in the Devouring Earth wars, joins Cole, and later receives her Praetorship at age 22. Does that mean then that the Hamidon Wars were in the 1930 or possibly 1940s? If so, apparently there was no WWII, like Prime Earth knew it, and therefore was no 5th Column?
Something sounds really off. -

You might want to toss a SPOILERS line up in the OP, Thirty-Seven. We do get new players now and then(hopefully several as Going Rogue ramps up), who may not know of these ties.
Here, there be SPOILERS.
That said, I'd not had any connections to Leonard Silmon, and had to go read the wiki article. I'm not certain how he drags into your overall discussion of Nemesis and the Coming Storm. Is it the similarity of his last name to Silos that makes the connection?
There have been discussions, at least piecemeal, concerning these topics on forum threads in the past.
From what I've been able to gather, both from in-game and discussion, the Coming Storm appears to be an alien invasion with the Shivan as scouts. Based on comments by Mender Silos, who is probably Nemesis, it would seem he got nosy again, like he did with the Ritki home world, and attracted the attention of the Shivan's master/s. It appears that Mendor Silos regrets the results and is trying to change the outcome, but just like Nemesis, he's doing so to his own ends. The Letter Sender believes the goals of Silos to be as bad, and is formulating a plan and strike squad to counter. As to who is referred to as the Coming Storm, the guesses are many with four main contenders in the material I've read so far:
1. An alien armada composed of the same species that will later burn the Kheldians for fuel.
2. Rularuu of Earth Prime dimension and whatever armies he brings with him.
3. The Earth Prime dimension's version of aliens that interacted with the Ritki. I'm personally unclear whether this is intended to mean the aliens that altered the Rikti, or an invading force driven back from the Rikti home world. It has also been suggested that this alien force is the same as in #1.
4. An as yet unseen, undescribed alien race.
I am not certain how Doctor Aeon plays into all this, if at all. -
Atlas is analgous to Hank Pym. For that matter, it sounds like Talos might have been as well.
Rularuu is not unlike Galactus.
Nemesis has several parallels to DC's Vandal Savage.
Proteus could be compared to Clayface.
Crey Industries could compare to LexCorp, though I don't think Baroness Crey holds any real comparison to Lex Luthor.
Dark Watcher always impressed me as a bit like The Shadow.
Valkyrie I always felt, had a backstory that always reminded me of Marvel's Thor, just minus the Nordic diety stuff.
the Paragon Protectors are not unlike the Project Cadmus Ultimen on Justice League Unlimited. -
Synapse is the obvious analog to Marvel's Quicksilver and every Flash and speedster DC has ever unleashed.
Citadel and Luminary are synthetic life forms, like the Vision.
EDIT: Ghost Widow might be a possible analog to DC's Gentleman Ghost -

I'm guessing this is a reasonable fit for the building edition:
Statues. Paragon City is legendary for statues to heroes. Unfortunately, we have the same models duplicated over and over in the city. Probably needed in order to get the game going back in 2004, but can you...- retcon at least many of the duplicates with new designs?
- throw in some statues to famous, never seen denizens of the city.
- add descriptive plates to ones we have, like the M-1 statue in Steel Canyon.
- add a few statues to "normals" as well. I'm surprised I've not see a statue of Spanky Rabinowitz anywhere. Considering the man's ego and how many ways he touched the city, it would seem a given he'd have found a way to get a statue put up.
Quote:Samuel, did you see this earlier post by Newty, especially the last pic?Yeah, I'm sorry but those buildings still look too much alike to me. Not just the glass towers. All of them. From that distance, they're just boxes of different shapes. ... I can envision a FEW glass towers here and there, but they're easily my LEAST favourite type of building.
Quote:
I'd like you guys to use and abuse reflections. Huge skyscrapers with full-reflected glass on the front. At the sides external-elevators.
Basically I don't want more City of Cubes. Bring in shapes, skyscrapers that go further then the current heightmap.

I was so hoping for a new peanut butter product when I saw the thread title.
Welcome Skippy! Seems a good time to expand my knowledge of dev workings. What's publishing regarding an MMO? In-game stories? comic books? novels? other? -
found another:
64 Shadows = U = Umbra (aka Shadow Lass) -
Quote:The specialists jobs go pretty in depth... you could even be a specialist for Dead Baby jokes.
I have been working with them today and you do get some interesting questions. I already had someone ask me to call them.
Someone gets paid to specialize in answering questions about Dead Baby jokes? That's really weird, and....I'm in the wrong profession.

Quoting from my comment in the other thread:
Quote:In addition, it would be nice to have some occasional points of visual interest on skyscraper roofs and ledges. The surprise garden, luxury pool, that sort of thing. I'd love to have my scrapper use the crouching emote to scan the city from the back of a Chrysler Building gargoyle!would like to see some more street level store signs at the skyscraper bases, and other visual touches to break up more of the homogenous feel of areas like Steel Canyon and Skyway. There are some already, like the umpteen Dirty Duck taverns, but where are the pharmacies, insurance companies, public libraries branches, etc.?
In that regard, would like to see some ethnic sections of the city. A Asian district, like a Chinatown with strung paper lanterns, banners, and cheap plastic toys in all the windows. Possibly close to a major concentrantion of Tsoo. (Yes, I'm aware they are Hmong and not Chinese, hence the "Asian" comment). Maybe even an homage to the Blade Runner movie's downtown look.
or a Little Italy, say in Independence Point near the Family. With cart vendors and Italian restaurants all over.
Would like to see some new posters and movie titles in the theaters. Bring back the contest to create the best movie title!
Lastly, would like to see gas stations. Where are all those cars fueling up?
Thanks for taking the time to work with us, David! -
23 Ice Control = Fz = Frozone
30 Toughness = Fm = Fortress Maximus? (of the Autobots)
37 Super Senses = Sn = The Sentinel (TV hero known for hightened senses)
42 Sonics = Db = Decibel
48 Alternate Form = Sz = Shazam!
65 Tracking = Ds = Dawnstar
There's still several we've not pinned down. -

Can you tell me the name of this desk and its manufacturer? I'm seeking a new desk and this looks promising.

And issue 19 most likely will continue to bring more back with its end game content.
