(I'll admit it - I was underwhelmed. The PAX East audience reaction was puzzling as well - not at all like their first exposure to Dual Pistols at HeroCon, which was met by much oooohing and ahhhing and thunderous applause & cheers. These guys just kinda sat there when it wrapped, I think we were all left with a big mouthful of Meh).

Ran into a bizarre ambush myself this weekend - tagging along with a sewer team on my lvl 50 illusion/kin.
Hadn't been in or on a mission with her in weeks. Was bouncing around Atlas for like an hour before going into the sewers behind the PuG.
About 10 mins in, this level 50 Council ambush comes rushing up one of the ramps at us!
I guess it coulda been my ambush, tho I don't see how - anyway I'm glad I was there to take care of them or that lowbie sewer PuG woulda been in big trouble! -
Can't help with the SG ones (not an active SG'er), or those specific Mission questions (don't Oro much, haven't done that Respec before), but for the Other questions:
O1. Double XP weekends have been coming around every 4 months or so... last one was just a week or two ago, so another probably won't be along for a while. They haven't announced the next one, as far as I know.
O2. The best way to find a Team is to form your own, Here's how.
O3. There's now bonus xp and reduced debt during missions, plus an aggro cap (no more "dumpster-diving" Tanks herding an entire zone), so you don't see as much street-sweeping these days. Most of the action is going on inside instanced missions.
I can direct you to the CoH wiki for help on those other questions.
Welcome back to the game and the forums! -
Question re: the Marketing Dept.
Is there one?
No...I mean REALLY?
Like...they get paychecks 'n everything? -
Sure sounds like Saist knows what they're talking about, but lemme mention that when I was getting this error after upgrading to a new ATI video card, I had to upgrade my **CHIPSET** drivers to fix the issue.
Not graphics drivers, mind you, chipset drivers.
I had never even heard of chipset drivers before encountering this problem, but if Saist's stuff doesn't fix your problem, use the Search feature here to find other posts with the terms "GL_ARB Multitexture blah blah" or whatever it is, starting in the Tech Issues and Bugs forum.
People have been experiencing this periodically for years now.
And yes, fixes vary by machine, so you may have some digging/trial-and-error work ahead. -
Quote:And don't forget to host it somewhere you control.
You never now when someone might find out you are leeching and swap it with something like THIS. That's what a friend of mine did to a guy leeching bandwidth off his website to compete at eBay sales with him.
omg NOOOO!
I can't un-see that, can I?
And just btw, this is from a site that specifically offers free hosting for web Avatars. You can upload your own or use one of their collection no charge. They must have just had a hiccup today. -
Quote:OK will do - but no idea how I can find the original, eh?My suggestion is, next time you find an avatar, host it on a image site instead of just lifting a link from someone else's bandwidth.
WAIT - NOW IT'S BACK. ????
Never mind.
p.s. Lemur - your latest Avatar at least isn't giving me nightmares, but still kinda evil-looking.
BRING BACK SLOW LORIS WE MISS SLOW LORIS!!! -
Suddenly I have no Avatar, and it's one I found just by searching for something that appealed to me on a random website.
The Edit Avatar line on my User CP shows no entry, and I'm trying to figure out how to track down the web address of that original Avatar.
Any suggestions? -
Quote:It'd be really nice if people on trial accounts could at least reply to tells sent to them. If not that, then at least an autoresponder or something to let them know they just sent a tell to a trial account player and won't be getting a response back.
Agree 100% - there has to be a middle ground that discourages the RMTs but allows Trial users to actually play the game close to the way it's *meant* to be played.
And remember: The only way to guarantee you're always on a fun team is to form one yourself...
Here's how. -
I agree so so much!
The zone should be the centerpiece of imaginative other-worldliness, not some half-hidden-away-in-a-corner zone "gathering dust".
It's so beautiful, why is it so...vacant?!? -

Welcome to the game, and the forums!
As this is an MMO, you're probably gonna want to be teaming up with some other Villains sooner or later, so may I offer a tip:
The only way to guarantee you're always on a fun team is to form one yourself...
Here's how. -
Quote:I getcha - but so far, with the exception of Ramianenl, no one's comin' up with any realistic suggestions. And I suspect most people aren't in a position to be throwing around 1-year subs as gifts. No offense Rob but I think the OP is talking about recruiting people who don't have accounts yet. What we can do as individuals to advertise the game. What you're suggesting are fantastic ways to convince people to stay once they decide to check out the game.
What I'm saying is, take advantage of the fact that there are Trial Accounts already, and use that as a leaping-off point for some recruiting you can start doing *right now*, that just happens to involve nothing more than "playing the game" you're already playing, in a new, rewarding way.
Really what we need is a concerted effort to goose the so-called Marketing Dept. into actually, y'know...marketing the game!
I've seen many attempts at such here on the Forums.
Perhaps a paper-letter writing campaign to the Marketing Dept. might be a realistic, and relatively easily-accomplished approach? -
Hang around Atlas, find uber-newbs via a Vet-badge check, and be super-nice and helpful.
Ideally you can identify peeps on Trial Accounts and give them a "super" reason to upgrade to the full account.
Gift them some inf, organize a sewer team for them, help them get to their first missions if they don't wanna sewer, answer any questions they may have, explain about Enhancements, Inspirations, etc.
The hardest part of fishing is getting that fish to nibble on the bait.
Once that happens, you just gotta "set the hook".
The Trial Account is doing the hard work of attracting new players, we just have to follow up, in-game, by highlighting what sets this MMO apart from the others - its super-amazing player base.
Be "heroic" to newbs and they're that much more likely to become Vets, paying it forward to newbs down the road - a positive feedback loop, CoH-style. -
Propel may be the slowest attack in the game but 0h-so-worth-it.
Smacking a Freakshow Tank in the noggin with a pool table just
never
gets
old. -
The folks over in the Technical issues & Bugs forum would probably be better equipped to answer any tech-related questions.
Peeps here are wizzes with the in-game, non-tech stuff, but the other thread has the techie wizzes. -
Quote:Next time have fries before you trash stuff. I find they are a great mellower.
That's the grease, my friend, slowing your heart by thickening your blood and clogging your arteries - enjoy!
The only reason I'm against lowering the EAT-access level is that Khelds (I have no EATs Villain-side) are fairly complex chars to play.
I think players really should "earn" the EAT by proving they can play a "regular" AT all the way through to it having all its powers, including Epics.
New players who jump right into a Kheld are gonna find it very difficult, to the point of frustration, and either play them very poorly, or vent about what a rip-off the EAT is, being almost impossible (for a new player) to play. -
Everyone's already covered the big stuff, lemme just mention that as a new player you may not be aware what big player draws are *nearby* as you zoom around.
So if you're near a "market" area - Wentworth's or the Black Market, you may be lagging as it loads a bunch of players in the market. If you're near the Atlas statue in Atlas Park, you may be lagging as it loads players visiting City Hall, assembling for a Costume Contest, or just hangin' out under the statue.
Try to take note of what's nearby when you experience lag, that may clue you in on a cause, or at least eliminate one.
And for teaming - if you want to Team, make sure you add as your Search comment: "Trial Account, can't send Tells, please Blind Invite"
Good luck, welcome to the game and the forums. -
These are great - probably better off in the City Life or Comics section, tho, not Player Questions.

Quote:Finally - a How to Multi-Quote for Dummies.Multi-quoting: click the middle button between the 'quote' and the 'quick reply' buttons on all the posts you want to quote. Then click the 'new reply' button. All the posts you clicked on will be included in your reply. You can edit them to your heart's content to respond only to what you like.
It's completely unnecessary to "fake" old-style quote-within-quote pyramids.
I've been too embarrased to ask.
Thx Agge. -
but I can't remember.
If you were the one who delivered this little gem while PuGing with Dismael this week, please drop a line, I forgot to add you as Global Friend before parting.
One of the funniest Team Tells I've ever seen.
Me: (to useless Kin during hairy fight) spam Transfusion please!
[we prevail. A few seconds later...]
Mysterious Scrapper: TBH, a spam transfusion sounds downright repulsive. I mean, I've eaten it...that's as close as I wanna get to injecting it into my body.
Me: LMAOLMAOLMAO
I was still laughing like 10 minutes later, picturing someone undergoing a Spam Transfusion.
If you're out there, Mysterious Scrapper, gimme a shout via PM or post here so I can Global Add you next time I log in. -

Quote:I solo a lot, but unless I am halfway or more through I would rather team than not and I am happy to replay a mission.
My question is why, when my search comment says "no blind invites plz" do I get a couple every time I am for longer than an hour?
Do you suppose people think I typed and forgot it was there? it's my default message. When I am marketing for a few I put that and when I am not, "NO BLIND INVITES PLZ".
I dunno why.
There are so few "NEVER EVER DO THIS" kinda things in this game, it really irks me as well, when I get Blind Invites.
The only time I even *consider* using a *form* of Blind Inviting, is when:
1.) someone is flagged as actively LFT,
2.) they've not Replied to my Invite Bind,
AND
3.) the team *really* needs that particular AT.
My reasoning is that they're most likely AFK, and my Invite Bind Tell may get pushed off their Chat screen (by Broadcast, SG or Coalition chatting) by the time they get back.
Other than that, I consider Blinds strictly off-limits. -
So an Irishman walks out of a bar.
(Wut? It could happen)
