Does this match anyone else's experience?
I did both parts of the new Posi, a Moonfire, and a good part of the freakolympics arc and got a total of 1 of the new ones to drop, the jetpack. So, completely different exp here.

I tried both with katana and anecdotal only, but in my experience they were pretty equal and I actually ended up liking electric slightly better. Dark has the more powerful heal and more utility, but electric has much easier endurance management, better recharge (lightning reflexes), and better resists. Probably more importantly, Electric has better areas of better resists. As in a lot of things throw around energy damage (3rd most common type you encounter after lethal/smash I believe). Having that easily capped instead of it being your biggest weakness (dark armor) makes up for a lot.

I haven't IO'd either out to any significant degree yet, this was just my experience with mostly normal slotting.

10% chance per critter hit. Why you use it an AoE like tornado. Use it on a group of 10 enemies and it will be rare it doesn't go off.

You can also add the chance for +recharge proc in psi tornado if you went for that epic or if you have another knockback power. Works well for another extra little boost.

Late to the party I know, but contrary to what others have posted here, I found dark/AR wonderful and my favorite defender ever. Dark provides the defense that allows you to safely leverage all of AR's wonderful AoE attacks and AR is one of the best at AoE.

Facing a tough single target foe? Also covered, just lay down petrifying gaze+ignite or once you get your fluffy it will often tentacle things for you to ignite so you don't even have to hold them first. And just like ice storm and blizzard do blaster level damage, so does ignite.

Once again corrupter would probably be even better though because I'm assuming each ignite tic would also have a scourge chance which would truly be nasty, but I'm not a villain side fan and GR wasn't announced back when I made mine .

Oddly enough you can dish out far more damage with Storm/Ice, Cold/Ice, TA/Ice, Dark/Ice, and Traps/Ice then you could a Rad/Ice build.

Your debuffs are anchors with Radiant Aura, and can be easly dissrupted on a team, and even in many solo cases you cant handle large mobs due to this issue.

Just wanted to set you straight a bit before you put your foot in your mouth on it being Offensive.Lord knows iv done that a few times.
Don't know about "far more damage". Especially dark/ice, I really question how that one could do more damage. I've played both and rad/ice outdamaged dark/ice in my experience, not even close. Rad isn't just about the toggles, AM's +dam and +recharge help out a lot as well. And large mobs may not be the aim, smaller groupings of hard targets is what I'd say this would excel at.

Rad has always been on the "offender" list of sets anyway, so I disagree that it couldn't be considered as such.

At a quick glance I'd only say perhaps put assault in there over something like stealth if you can afford the extra bit of end drain. I know you are using it for a LOTG, but the damage bonus is pretty good for a defender.

Yes, I was actually on Virtue when game froze. Happens on occasion so didn't think anything strange. Now I get this message when trying to get back in, first time I've seen it too.
  8. Fire/Ice should be good for what you want, I think it very well might be a combo you'll go all the way with. I finally got a blaster to 50 after many years as well and with a similar offensive/defensive combo of fire/dev. Maybe my playstyle, but I found it faster than fire/ice, not slower and I did try a fire/ice to 30. Caltrops is much faster (and usable with hover) compared to ice patch and I just don't usually bother with trip mine which is the power that probably most gives /dev the "slow" rep. /Ice gives you shiver though which is better to use with rain of fire and of course has build up. So, it definitely has its pluses.

Once you do put enough time and money (IO's) into a blaster you'll be wondering why you bother with a scrapper instead of the other way around. I now kill a lot faster with my blaster than scrapper and am just about as survivable. Sometimes more so as I watch the poor scrappers struggle through things like quicksand and see their defense disappear while I hover over it unscathed.

Oh, and you do not need aid self. I keep trying that power out because I keep hearing how important it is. Every time I find I'm better off just killing everything in the time it'd take to stop and try to get off its slow heal. Many times "try" is also the key word as it doesn't always work. Greens drop a plenty, there is rest, and eventually you can get a pretty decent regen rate to take care of the occasional hit that gets through.

I still wish there was a way to access the Winter stuff year round. Like maybe running a Task Force that opens the Ski Chalet for a certain period of time. Or completing a series of missions from a contact that gives you a temporary pass.

The BNY missions should be locked until the event is officially started though.

    But I digress...

Anyways, thanks for the extra time, etc etc etc. <3
I think they need to open a summer version of the Chalet. It is too nice a place to keep locked up most of the year. They could have fireworks there for July 4th although I know it wouldn't necessarily be of relavance to the non-USA players.

Well, I can tell you what I did with devices in regards to defense to give you some ideas. Gaussian's in targetting drone (2.5 all), stupefy in taser (3.13 range) , eradication in trip mine (1.565 range), expediant reinforcement in gun drone (3.13 range).

I don't pvp so I didn't even take cloaking device, super speed and a celerity stealth IO gives me full invis and without the annoying never ending hum of cloaking device that drives me crazy. Maybe they'll catch that one and hopefully someday put it on their list of powers who's sound effects should fade away after toggle on. The illogic of why stealth powers make noise in this game has always been a mystery to me. But that's a tangent.

Also I currently have a L37 Radiation/Electric though the only things I've taken from the secondary so far is the mandatory first tier and Build up (in hindsight I should have taken energy secondary instead)

Both are very soloable and yet Team Friendly.
Actually I'd say skipping smoke grenade is pretty common, keeping time bomb isn't though. I'd be curious how you use it, I heard so many bad things about it I never even bothered with it. I as well find I don't use trip mine much, caltrops is really the star of /devices for me.

Anyway, Fire/Devices is about to be my first 50 blaster ever (at about 49.5 right now ) I only tried about 100 combo's to this point. I think IO's letting me get my ranged defense to over 40% helped, I had a hard time liking how squishy blasters use to be. Between the defense, hover, and caltrops (also great to use with rain of fire), I'm pretty darn safe while at the same time still going through missions at a very quick clip. Fire's AoE of course makes teams fun.

NCSoft's been pretty good since the Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault debacles about not over-selling a product.

Given the trend of the gaming industry as of late to promise the moon and deliver a bare bottom, I'm much more comfortable with the discrete information releases thus seen so far on Aion and City of Heroes. Perhaps other games could take notes.
"Recent history" and "trend as of late"? More like MMO's (and most single player games too) have been doing that since forever.

    Trying again...

All I'll say is I use to feel the exact same way as you about blasters. But I finally put enough money (IO's) into one (a fire/devices) and it really makes a huge difference. A ranged defense of about 40% and AoE of about 30% combined with hover and in my case caltrops to really make sure nothing gets close. Add in tough + temp invulnerability for close to 50% smash/lethal resistance. It is maybe still not as tough as a scrapper can be, but I have definitely lost that "squishy" feeling. Now its my favorite character and my scrappers feel slow.

I tend to go for around lvl 30 IO's even for most of my powers, so I can even exempt pretty low and still be pretty tough.

Stick with it and get those IO's.

Yep, as has been suggested in the past by others, they need to greatly increase the damage and in exchange greatly increase the recharge time of snipes. Would make the power make a lot more sense anyway.

    Virtue Down?

Got on briefly, lost connection again. Now everytime I try to choose Virtue I lose connection to db server. So, all is not smooth yet.
  17. Yea, the only new animation I like better than the old is the one for CAK. Course that one wasn't hard to improve upon.

Well, you do realize that ignite on a defender does the same damage as the blaster version? Hard to beat a defender attack that does over 500 points of damage when slotted. I'd say it's worth it on a defender even with its long animation. My dark/AR defender loves it (I use pet gaze to keep them still in my case).

It may say that, but I've definitely seen him take psi damage from Arachnos fortunata and such. Small numbers of course, but you definitely see the damage hit.

/Devices.......just don't. Seriously, if Ice could be said to be too slow of a secondary for Fire (which I disagree with), then devices would be like crawling in quicksand. Devices got absolutely neutered between ED, the old smoke grenade 'nerf', and Inventions. Targeting Drone, Smoke Grenade, and Cloaking Device are mostly replaced by Inventions and trip mine, time bomb, and Gun Drone are very slow casting powers. The set, frankly, needs totally redone to compete with other sets in today's game. There are those that play it, and it can be a fun set, but you have to play to its strengths and be accepting of its vast limitations.
Love my fire/devices. On tough battles or bad teams devices is invaulable, on steamroller teams I just don't bother. So, slow? Not really. Anyway, I find most other secondaries have just as many skippable powers. Basically the big drawback is the no build-up, all it really comes down to. Yes, that's a big one though.

I'd say all they need to do is give targetting drone an assault like constant on damage boost (to more than just AR's snipe) and tweak time bomb. No "total redo" necessary IMHO.

One advantage of fire/devices is it is one of only two secondaries (other being /ice) where you can actually make good use of rain of fire.

Okay, I'm having a similar issue with my /devices blaster. Trying to change some of the colors of things such as web grenade, targetting drone, and caltrops the change won't stick. Ones like smoke grenade and taser they do. Of course the tailor will still take my influence every time I try. Blah.
  22. I find the use of vengeance depends on how much you like to join pick up groups. On a typical average PuG, there is almost always one crazy player who manages to somehow get themselves killed no matter what you do. I love PuG's, so I love having vengeance. I even get it on my scrapper builds sometimes.
  23. I miss both of those graphic touches as well. The darkest night one definitely being the more important one.

How's that any different that the $5 a month you can pay to get a jet pack? That's been around for a long time now.

Course you can also get an almost as good as fly travel power for 10k influence in game too. This is just finally....finally almost putting things back to even again between SS, SJ, and Fly. Now there is an "almost as good" alternate to every travel power, except teleport. Wonder when they'll add some sort of slightly gimped self teleport power that you can buy in game. Maybe with mutant pack?

Oh, and I think I'm the only one who thinks the ninja run animation looks stupid (the flips aren't bad, the run position looks like out of some cheesy bad Japanese cartoon). I'm thankful I have the power slide to run with it to mostly override it. Still, probably won't bother using it on most of my characters.
  25. I tend to go for level 32's most often. Not much loss in benefit and lets you go all the way down to the 25-29 arcs for Ouro and down to level 30 TF's. If not that level I still usually try to hit levels that end in 2 or 7 since lower Ouro arcs tend to exemp you to levels ending in 9 or 4. So, level 37's for example means you can still do the 30-34 arcs and keep your bonuses, etc. You of course are then good to go and only give up 1 level of bonus for TF's of that level range as well.
