  1. I'd like to throw a vote out for Electric control, either on a dom or on a controller. The endurance drain inherent in all the powers means that you can lock down a mob permanently even when you are lacking the recharge to cycle through your control powers constantly.

I have an elec/time controller who is not build for exemplaring - purple sets notwithstanding, all her IOs are level 50 and don't work exemplared. Yet I was able to do both the new Signature arcs at level 20 and 30 at x8 with no problem. Well, small correction, I did the /first/ mission of the level 20 arc at x8, then switched down to x0. While I did not die, damage without pets is somewhat anemic, so keep that in mind. It's much better now that I've slotted damage procs in her AOE Immob, but still. Exemplared to level 27 and above, however, she is an absolute monster.

EDIT: For meelee, I would definitely say claws. An awesome AOE at level 6? Yes please. For secondaries, I would look at Willpower, which blooms early.

Speaking of embarassing mistakes, I apparently hit Hero > Villain at some point so I had double-accolades on that build, skewing the HP.

So you're "only" at slightly over 2700 HP which is still nothing to sneeze at for a brute.
  3. I fiddled with it a bit, trying to aim for Max HP - since that also improves Regen - and somehow ended up with, assuming all +HP accolades and T4 spiritual alpha, 3000 HP, over 400 more than before, going from regenerating 78 HP/second to 96 HP/sec. It also had the sideeffect of capping your energy defense, although you lost a bit of recharge.

Also swapped out the Performance Shifter proc in Physical Perfection for Regenerative Tissue +Regen one. A minor increase, but with 3 other perf shifter procs, you are really not hurting for endurance...

Also, if you are aiming for more recharge, consider perhaps dropping aim for hasten.

  4. Hm, I would say that change of priority is not ideal. First of all, damage buffs are almost useless to brutes due to their low base damage - consider that you have at all times a 120-150% damage buff from fury; just how much of a difference do the 16% you picked up from sets really make?
Secondly, defense is more useful than resists and should be a bit higher on your list of priorites - I recommend trying to build for capped s/l defenses, since that will protect you from 90% of all attacks. Aiming for 32,5% defense will mean you can cap yourself with a small purple inspiration, affording your build more flexibility regarding recharge.
Speaking of recharge - if recharge was your main goal, your build is conspicuously lacking hasten.
And the one thing you really need to take into account in your build and missing from your list is good endurance. /Fire is a very endhungry secondary, and with the build you posted, you will find yourself running out of steam quickly. Build for more recovery, and slot your toggles for more end reduction - especially Blazing Aura, that one really needs all the end reduction it can get.

Cremate isn't a very good attack, I would drop it for Incinerate, which is one of Fire's best attacks.

Keeping all that in mind, this is the modified build I came up with:

  5. How about a Spines/FA/Mu scrapper? :3

    You get...
2 damage aura, one of these probably the best one in the game
2 PBAOEs, one of them the FANTASTIC Burn
    2 cones
    1 ranged Aoe
  6. The thing about Elec is... it's a set that shines at 50, and with IOs. Even then, Elec is an AOE monster with ST being its weak spot, as you've noticed.

So, for leveling, yes, pick up that extra attack. Getting a ranged ST attack from your epic pool will also help immensely. When you hit 50, you can then respec out of Havoc Punch, not Charged Brawl.

Despite being "minor" damage compared to Havoc's "moderate", Charged Brawl does more damage AND it recharges faster.

If you'll look at mids, it will tell you that Havoc Punch with 2 damage IOs does 100 damage, while Charged Brawl with 2 damage IOs does 60 - but then take a look at their cast times. 1,5 seconds for Punch, 0,8 for Brawl. Once you factor that in, per animation, Havoc Punch does 67 damage, with a 6 second cooldown, while Charged Brawl does 77, with a 3 second cooldown.

If you pick it up, you won't have much problems killing EBs.
  7. Yeah, even with T4 cardiac your end/sec net gain will be low - you'll probably manage clearing mobs, but sustained fights will get to you.

You rely on hover to keep your defense capped, but sadly, Lightning Rod doesn't work when flying, you need to be grounded for it. So for combat situations, you need to cap your defense with hover toggled off.

A note: It's okay to neglect AOE defense. 99% of all attacks will check against ranged/meelee.

Maneuvers is a big end drain. When given the choice between Combat Jumping and Maneuvers, choose Combat Jumping, which costs next to nothing.

I took the liberty of modifying the build I use for my own Elec/Shield brute, sticking as close as possible to your power selection. I'm not sure what exactly your budget is, but this one should be manageable - no purples or PvP IOs. With this build, provided you pick up the +Max End Accolades, you won't need Cardiac, and I would strongly advise to pick Spiritual for moar Lightning Rod and Shield Charge shenanigans

    ROFL emote

There are so many times that emote would perfectly encapsulate my reaction.

So yes please to that suggestion!
  9. Not sure if this is already a known issue, but I thought I'd mention it

I decided to go with Musculature Radial paragon which among other things increases tohit buffs by 20%

Time's Juncture, which unenhanced provides a -12,5% tohit debuff, suddenly went down to 9,38% -tohit. I really hope this is a mids bug, not an in-game bug >.>
  10. There is no faster farmer/plvler than SS/Fire. Period.

/SD isn't very good at surviving ambushes, which is the fastest kind of farming map, because it's defensebased, not resist. Not saying it can't be done, just that you will likely rely on orange inspirations to keep you alive.

    But. That's in the AE.

For general play, /Fire is very squishy barring significant IO investment. /Shield is easily softcapped to all positionals.
  11. Overall, looks like a very solid build. What I'd tweak it more for is better endurance management so that you are free to take spiritual alpha (with which you'd be able to almost perma-hasten, around a 7 second cooldown) and one of the more defensive destinies (barrier or rebirth, both very useful in tough battles) instead of being forced into either ageless or cardiac.

Take the +end proc out of Consume, it's useless - it will only fire when you use the power and the very use of the power will fill your end bar anyway. Instead, move that slot to Stamina to max out your end mod there. Also switch out the EndMod/Accuracy in Consume for EndMod/Recharge, with rage you really do not have to worry about accuracy.

Then, switch out the Oblit set in Blazing Aura with Multistrike, or Frankenslot for maxed endurance and damage. Personally, I am fond of 4 Eradication for maxed damage, +max HP and +max end, and then 2 endurance reductions.

Of course, now you lost 1,8 s/l defense, so take out the third slots out of Firey Embrace/hasten (They provide very little benefit) and the slot out of Rage. Put those 3 into Boxing and 4-slot another kinetic combat. Rage could be slotted for pure Tohit or recharge, or both, whatever you prefer.

End result should be something like this

    I'm a Sidekick!

Welcome to City of Heroes, and the Virtue server

If you are looking to join an SG, I can recommend Justice Girls, a very active SG with lots of members, task forces and teaming opportunities. While it is a light-RP SG and there are members that don't RP, there are quite a few who do. Personally, I've had a very good time with them and can only recommend them

Another thing you'd maybe want to do is join some global channels - this is where the majority of teams are formed. Just type in "/chan_join Channelname"

A great one for normal teaming is
    Virtue LFG Beta

And since you are an RPer, you might also like
Roleplayers LFT (<- For IC teams)
Roleplayers (<- For OOC chatter about roleplay, concepts, setting up RP events, RPSGs advertising for members etc.)
RP Virtue (<- Same as Roleplayers)

And last but not least, your character sounds like she'd get along great with my main hero, Elaine - while she is a somewhat young heroine herself and has only been active 6 months, she'd be more than glad to help someone adjust to life in Paragon. And the same goes for me OOCly, if you need help with anything, feel free to contact me ingame, the global name is @Riora.

    LTB Panacea Proc

I'm looking to buy a Panacea: Chance for +Hit Points/Endurance, please contact me ingame @Riora.

    Thanks in advance

Update: Bought! A big thanks to @Madame Pistacio, an awesome and trustworthy trader, who even told me I was overbidding. Big recommendation!
  14. Well, first of all, my question is - what were you farming? Ambushes? /Shield doesn't do very well with ambushes, even with capped defenses the mass of enemies will sooner or later land hits. So my advice is: Fill your tray with oranges; no build, no matter how good, will make up for /shield's meager resists. As to what you should aim for in your build... cap your meelee/ranged defense (AOE is fine at around 40%-ish, and less important). Build for HP, the more, the better. And do something about your endurance consumption, since /shield is rather toggle-happy, and you'll likely be running tough/weave on top.

Also: Knockdown is your friend. If you can afford the Ragnarok knockdown proc (It's the cheapest Ragnarok pieces, iirc), put it in Lightning ball. Between Thunderstrike, Lightning Rod, Shield Charge and Lightning Ball, your foes should rarely be on their feet to even attack you. I strongly advise against taking Electrifying Fences for that reason - the Immobilize prevents knockdown.

I'd also advise you to get the rebirth destiny, the heal will help tremendously for when a hit does go through your defenses.

    Anyhow...

This is my Elec/shield's build - no endurance problems, capped defenses, and 2300 HP. Also, less importantly but good to have for nuking, 60% global recharge. I also have the spiritual alpha for moar recharge.

  15. An Elec/Therm? Interesting. Is warmth really enough to keep me alive, though - or do the toggles really drop that fast?

As for a /WP brute...I have a WP/Fire tanker who got flattened by an SD/SS tanker in a duel. Stupid rage tohit. Since brutes are generally squishier still...not sure that would work.

Anyway, I threw together a build for an Elec/Regen scrapper. With the higher hit points it seems to benefit more from Regen. Picked up Flurry and Kick, because mids tell me they have 1300 and 900 damage (Sidenote: WTF o___O) - if there's some mistake there and I shouldn't use them, I'd pick up Jacob's Ladder and Lightning Rod instead (slotted with Oblits)

The build has 40% meelee defense, which I know gets surpressed in PvP - I wasn't sure by how much or just what I should be aiming for, so I aimed at the usual def cap. Really need some input here.

Tohit seems key to beating a tanker, so I took Body Mastery for Focused Accuracy, as well as tactics, slotted the kismet +6% as well. Chance for Build up in tactics is always lulzy, even in PvE.

650% Regen, 57% global recharge... so, um, yeah. Please savagely critique since I have no idea what I'm doing :3 If you offer a modified build, please keep in mind that I'm on a budget, so no purples or PvP recipes.

Again, your help is very much appreciated.

  16. Hello, everyone; I am a total and utter noob when it comes to PvP, having stuck so far mostly with PvE and RP. Yes, RP, you may laugh now Anyway, said RP has led me to a storyline that will likely end in a duel… and I have no intention of losing, and so have decided to roll a duel-viable build.
Since it’ll be an alt of one of my existing characters, it needs to have an elec primary or secondary – AT is up in the air. My opponent will be an SS/Invul tanker (who, thankfully, is not a PvPer hirself, and slotted for PvE), although whatever I roll should be good not only against that, but in duels in general.
Basically, my question is… what will be a good AT/powerset and what should my slotting goals be (without purples and PvP recipes)? So far, I’ve been leaning toward Elec/Regen stalker or scrapper… but decided to ask people who actually know the first thing about PvP.
Your input is very much appreciated

PS: Reading up on the forums, people keep saying that Flurry/Kick are useful in duels and should be slotted – is that true? Not quite following that one.

Oh, sorry, I thought it awarded seperate badges for Nightstar and Siege each

Nothing wrong with that, but the only reason to do this is to intentionally make the trial more challenging.
Actually, the reason to do it intentionally is to get two badges.
  19. Thank you for all your thoughtful replies

Since my main hero is a /willpower scrapper and I want to try something new, I think I'll give the Claws/Elec a try.
  20. Hello everyone

I want to create a toon to play through CoV's content mostly solo, so what is the best brute power combo for that? While the powerset obviously shouldn't suck in endgame, I'm looking for a set that starts to shine without being fully IO'd out at maxlevel with all epic powers :3 Basically something that will be soloable and fun in the 22 - 49 range.

I've been leaning toward Elec/Shield for AOE goodness - is that viable?
  21. Global name: @Riora
Server they mainly play on: Virtue
Level of PvP experience: None whatsoever
Access to Ventrilo and/or mic: Yes/Yes
Ability to meet at 9pm est on Fridays: Most likely yes.

I've been meaning to take a closer look at PvP and this sounds like fun

    Chat logs

Total newbie question here: Where do I access chat logs? I've enabled it in the options menu, but cannot find the supposed text files.

Not sure if it makes any difference, but I'm using the Mac client.

    Any help would be appreciated
  23. Oh, I see. Yes, I am on a Trial account, and thank you Off to buy the full version, then...
  24. I sold a few candy cones in the trading house, but I cannot retrieve the money. A window pops up telling me that I've exceeded the cap of 2 billion, even though the sum is 55k each. I've experimented a bit, and sold two other items, which worked fine. Then I sold two more candy cones, one for 75k, the other 56k. Again, I cannot retrieve the money.

I already sent a bug report in-game. As a newbie who is still considering whether to buy this game or not - Is this a common bug? How long until it is addressed and fixed?
