Has a great sig quote.

My experience starting out was somewhere between Wolfie and Demon. I had played EQ a while back, the experience lasted all of 3 weeks. I knew before my 14-day trial was up that CoX was a different experience and I enjoyed it.
It was an experience to say the least, I checked the Quick Start Guide to understand what buttons to mash, and I got around okay but I can't say that I was at all effective. It didn't help that I chose a Kin/Arch Defender right off the bat.
It took me a month to find the forums, and the wealth of information here, and probably another month to come across someone who I had a great experience teaming with, ending up in an SG that I still belong to to this day.
I have answered plenty of questions from players, and have seen broadcasted questions or calls for help go ignored. I believe a mentoring programme would be very helpful to new players, and would reduce the frustration and feeling of flailing around aimlessly newbs might experience.
I fail to see how a group of experienced players aiding the newly hatched would be a 'bureaucracy'. I see this as a community experience, and while Protector may be known as the "Unofficial Solo Server" I also know we have a lot of great people here that are more than willing to help others. -
Sorry to hear that Arch, I hope you feel better soon. I've still got a cough from the Con-Crud, so I feel for you.
And yeah, saw the announcement about the roll-back, wasn't able to log in as of 10 min ago. -
Was ToT'ing in PI when I got booted. Figures, as I just got on ToT team. -.-
Lost half my banner badges to boot. -
All west coast servers are showing grey in server selection screen.

Quote:I see your point here, River.I don't think a player is going to want a Supergroup or a dedicated person to mentor them. I think a new player is going to want a casual channel to ask questions on, and get answers from a variety of people - not just one dedicated person. They're not going to want a lesson-planned out help session. Why not just create a channel for it separate from everything else, and use that for assisting people. While the whole thing is a good idea, it can all too easily go from a great idea to an escalated holier-than-thou pretentious soap box preaching session that will drive people away.
If someone asks me a question I've always looked at it as: If you're going to help someone, then just help them. If they need more help, they'll ask.
There have been times where I have teamed with a newbie, or even several considering the team creations restrictions on temp accounts. I've spent as much as three or four hours with them in one session, answering their question, giving them pointers, let them know of the wealth of information here on the forums and at ParagonWiki.
I will friend them, let them know they can always ask me questions, and they may never contact me again or I may get a tell from them a month later.
Where I think the Mentoring/SG program will really com in handy is that new players will have a ready source of knowledge available to them that they hopefully, have already had a great experience with and that they know they can glean further info from.
The lower levels are fairly simple as it's getting to know your characters abilities, getting around, how to approach foes, working the contact/auction house/stores system.
Twenty levels from now, they may now have questions about costumes/tailors, TF's, PvP zones, and they will have the Mentors within the SG that they are already familiar with and have already proven to be helpful. -

Quote:I was looking at your previous post, and missed the 'Q3' in the 18% statement. My mistake. Doesn't change the fact that their drop in sales is far less than the economy has seen as a whole.Would you provide your data or source? The data I am looking at says that video game sales for Q3 2009 are down only 6%, 9% for the year.
-
When I drug a friend over to test to show him Walk, his comment about it was "There goes my love affair with capes."

Quote:Considering that the economy saw a 40% drop in sales over the same period, having only an 18% drop is ******* astounding. An interesting graph, which needs to be viewed along with a lot of other relevant data to really come to some sound financial conclusions.
However, just looking at the graph:
1) This is the only time that there has been a decrease in sales for three consecutive quarters
2) Each quarter in 2009 the % drop in sales has increased, with an 18% loss in Q3
Again, this is only part of the story. However, the finance folks at Paragon surely get uneasy seeing this data. -
You flew too high, didn't you.
Been there, done that. ****** swarms and their -fly. -
Well, they didn't put up much of a fight.

I hate those smilies with their poor outlines, they look like crud.

In times of need, my fellow Praetorians have but to ask and I will be at their side. I will gladly lend them a shoulder to lean on, a hand to help them up when they have fallen, an ear to listen, a sounding-board for their thoughts.
Are we infallible? Yes, for we are only human.
Do we strive to do better? Yes, for we are only human.
If you are are injured, I will do my best to help you.
If you raise your hand to me in friendship, I will welcome you into my home.
If you raise your hand to me in anger, threaten my family, my home, my city, my leader, my way of life...
...I will rain destruction upon you until there is not a single breath of life left in your broken body.
I'll be damned if I left a 6 year old keep me from supporting the Loyalists, and since "No it's not!" and "Because I said so!" is not even a valid argument, I pretty much ignore it. -
Quote:I can say that this was not anywhere on my list of thing I would have wanted, but I logged on to test, ooooo'd and aahhhh'd at watching my character walk.I did not see this coming, but cool, i know a few people who will be happy with this who haven't posted yet.
But then I started listening to the sounds, walking across the lawn in front of the University. Then I went to Perez, walked across the grass there, and then near the stream, and a bridge, and the water...
I was just...

Quote:And it's odd that Walk is the only one that will actually turn your character around so that they face you when you walk 'backwards'. Although slowed down even further make it even more visually hypnotizing.Overall Response
Beautiful! Wonderful! I love it! It looks so cool, especially if you zoom in for a close up of your toon and swing the camera to the side.
Hunh Department
I never realized moving backwards was slower than moving forwards. It's noticeable that walking backwards is slower than walking forwards by the beat of the pace of footsteps. Timed courses showed that's the case. But it's also true for normal trotting, Sprint, SuperSpeed, and Fly, even though Real Numbers doesn't show the change in speed. -
I chose Psychic Mastery myself, Mass Hypnosis and Dominate have come in very handy for myself and my teams.
Thunderstrike is very positional, I use it to knock stragglers into the tanks heap or to clear/lessen mobs heading for me. Air Superiority slotted with with Pounding Slugfest: Chance to Disorient comes in handy for those melee needs, and it recharges quickly. -
Quote:Agreed. I never gave a second thought to the Medicine Pool, heck, I never gave it a first thought. That's your prerogative, but I really don't think a rez is worth wasting two power choices on. Kinetics already has Transfusion and Increase Density so you won't get much use out of the other medicine powers. In general you'll be better if you use those choices for something use (leadership maybe?) and carry extra wakies.
