    Did not miss that point.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, you quite obviously have since you're still blathering on about the social stupidity of one form on unhealthy eating being treated worse than another.

    [ QUOTE ]
and as I said It would only cause a problem since some people can't and will not see the difference between a game and the real world.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Very, very true. However, ignoring this fact and saying that just going ahead and saying "we now allow really fat characters," and just assuming no one will jump on it and say it's promoting obessity is stupid.

I don't think you're that stupid, Chat, or nieve. So live with the fact that this isn't the place to be discussing eating disorders, and computer games should not be used to try to solve them either.

    New website! :D

I certainly won't ask for more than the new forums working as well as the current ones. I was fairly amazed they worked as well as they do.

    New website! :D

Well, I'm out of work anyway. I'll put a task in my PDA to go through the site monday and compile a list.

    [ QUOTE ]
I will grumble a lot more if the new forums aren’t small browser friendly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So will I. I quite often read the forums or post on my phone/PDA's browser.

    Praetorian Arc

    [ QUOTE ]
I think it's more than two. It seems like some contacts primarily the newer ones (RWZ contacts/The piligrim etc) flag up with a yellow book as soon as they get introduced. It's all rather confusing really...

    [/ QUOTE ]

None of the RWZ contacts give a yellow arc. None of them. That's none, nadda, zilch, zero.

I don't actually think that yellow arcs are handed out by anyone other than the original hero contacts.

Newer contacts frequently have one story arc (a red one) which they start with, work through, and then pass you on to a new contact, and I think it's been working that way since at least Striga. Thing was, up until they added in the little book symbols, you couldn't really tell.

    Base wish list

ouroboros portal in base, just for quick access

    [/ QUOTE ]

Already available, and has been for quite a while. I have one in my base, actually, in the control room.
  6. Better avatar. That's really pretty much all I have to say.
  7. Ravenswing

    New website! :D

I tend to disagree, personally. Especially since web site content and website systems should be being handled by different people.

The web site content has been largely ignored for over a year now. Nothing says 'this game has been adandoned by its owner' so much as a web site with game system data on it which is so far out of date it's actually plain wrong.

Frankly, updating to the nice, pretty, new look is very nice, but it's just chrome. Unless they actualy update the content, the web site is the same old rubbish it has been for a long time.

    New website! :D

I think the main negative aspect of the site is that practically all the info needs updating. Take a look at the Rewards section of Game Guides. 'Salvage' refers to base salvage, invention salvage isn't mentioned (nor are inventions). Now, inventions came in over a year ago, and base salvage now doesn't exist.

The sit may look now, but it's all cosmetic. The site needs a real update.

Honestly, Chatarsis, change you avatar! I can't take a damn thing you say seriously with that there. It's hard enough as it is, but that avatar makes it impossible.
  10. I only ran some Ouro missions last night, but I noticed absolutely no problems what so ever.
  11. It's a cold day today with some clouds. High of 4C, low tonight of -7C so watch out for ice on the roads as there will be a small chance of rain. The cloud will thicken quite a lot into the evening.

    Tomorrow, colder, but clearer.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Yes but people expect that from a new game, not one heading rapidly towards its 5th birthday.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well they should. How old is the current Windows codebase? A game like CoX is at least as complex as an operating system and is more likely to have to deal with network issues.

    [ QUOTE ]
Maybe I could have worded it better, but it is these sort of things that I am on about more than crashes etc, things that worked badly, got fixed and now are working badly again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But your implication here is that it's the same cause and, in all likelyhood, it isn't. If you want an absolutely stable game that's 5 years old, then they pretty much have to stop adding anything new on release.

Even then, some of the things you complained about are not entirely under NCNC's control and they can't 'fix' them.

    [ QUOTE ]
Sorry GR but I play plenty of other games and I dont suffer from multiple disconnects and such on ANY of them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I know I've been randomly kicked out of WoW more than once, and LotRO as I recall.

Which is a point, WoW is almost as old as CoX. Still got bugs in, still got loads of players.

    [ QUOTE ]
It is also various people I team with on various ISPs so that suggests to me that it is your end.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Uh-huh, and hardware developers always blame the software until you can prove they're wrong in triplicate, with diagrams.

    [ QUOTE ]
As for the /sync problem, again I have no problems elsewhere, and even your own forums have people complaining about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I re-reference WoW. However, every system is different and other systems almost certainly have weird bugs which they can't track down either. You may not have met them, of course.

You seem determined to suggest that 'recurrent' problems and weird bugs are unique to CoX. They aren't and never will be. Complex software has complex bugs.

And CoX launched more smoothly than any other game I've played online.
  13. Perhaps I'm reading this wrong, but... why would movement supression kill regeneration?
  14. Compulsive collection is something I don't empathise with really, but it's hardly uncommon. Look at stamp collecting, or coins. Or even the tendency people have to want to play every class in an MMO...

    [ QUOTE ]
Actually, I was downright stating that several of them can't be fixed. Yes.

They can be reduced, or fixed for now. But fixed? Nope.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So what your saying is that they can't be fixed..But can be reduced or fixed for now, so fixed for now doesn't really mean fixed??? So can they or can't they???

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think GR has answered this very well. (And Shadowe, regarding the mapserver issues.)

You can get old bugs resurfacing if some code has to be roled back, but it's infrequent that that happens since code control should keep track of that kind of thing.

Crashes happen, and can be caused by circumstances so complex that they are hard to isolate, never mind fix. See GR's note about the /sync issue.

In Hacker circles, bugs fall into two categories, named for various theories about atomic structure. Boer Bugs are repeatable and easy to isolate and fix (Boer's model of the atom was a static one). Heisenbugs tend to be hard to repeat, don't work in debug mode, often don't happen when looked for (Heisenburg's Uncertainty Principle being the model here).

The I13 crash would be a Boer Bug, the /sync problem would be a Heisenbug.

Boer Bugs get fixed. Heisenbugs can be unfixable, or fixing one can be a cause of great merriment and programmers going out to the pub to celibrate.

    Clearer?
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Unless you keep them logged on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, they *will* get them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

GR... how can I put this?

There is no point in using reason in a discussion like this. People do not want to hear actual figures, they want to complain that they have to not play their character in order to get something without any effort.

If you think about it in those terms, you'll soon realise that actually explaining this is a waste of your valuable time. Go out, drink, play pool so Shadowe can spy on you and report back to us.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
There is a difference between an assumtion and a deduction.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes. Deductions are logical conclusions based upon facts and assumptions.

    [ QUOTE ]
People assumed that this was an anti-farming measure, despite the stong evenence to the contrary (that being, it wouldn't work).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I didn't, I deduced that it was a massive amount of overkill for a mechanism to stop mixed missions and therefore actually attributed the devlopers with more intelligence than you do.

    [ QUOTE ]
I combined the knowledge that code had been added to prevent players doing opposite faction missions, which we were told about in the developers diary; with the knowledge that character info is not reliably transfered between zones to make a deduction. I could still have been wrong, but what I said was based on sound evidence, and turned out to be correct.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All we have had confirmed is that the current situation is a bug. No one has confirmed what the original intention of the code was.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
I never stated that I agreed with everything and found that a lil' patronising mate

    [/ QUOTE ]

Err, no, not really patronising, but some non-programmers just don't seem to get the idea that some bugs are extremely complex and difficult to lock down, or even prove the existance of!

When I come over abbraisive, it's usually on purpose. Patronising is normally not. Sorry.

    Honestly?

You're assuming it's even possible to fix some of those.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you assuming they can't be fixed

Actually, I was downright stating that several of them can't be fixed. Yes.

They can be reduced, or fixed for now. But fixed? Nope.

any mission in a shared zone that is available only to Heroes or Villains

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's what I said it was, a consiquence of the code to stop players doing opposite faction missions in co-op zones.

Maybe you will believe me next time?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sure, when you show me a quote where the devs say thats what it was from. Your quote above was in relation to the missions effected, not the reason it happened.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The "missions affected" affected is nearly all missions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I'm ignoring the snide flame.

    I highlighted the important bit.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I see the OP's point however, it is quite irritating to find the same old bugs rearing their ugly heads time again

    [/ QUOTE ]

I totally agree, and the 'things stuck in scenery' bug needs fixing, permanently.

    However, mapserver problems? Crashes?

Do you guys have even the slightest idea how many things cause that kind of problem, and how easy it is to have them added into totally new code?

Did just notice this and find it funny:[ QUOTE ]
but the game will die if the basics cannot be gotten right in the first place, particularly with competition that is fresh

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you think CoX is buggy, I strongly suspect that CO and DCUO will make CoX look like it's been sprayed with a broad spectrum insecticide.

(Sadly, long gone are the days when debugging did actually involve a big can of RAID... )
  22. *puts on Doctor Who voice* I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. *disconnects Sal's world from the Internet*
  23. Honestly?

You're assuming it's even possible to fix some of those.

    [ QUOTE ]
like the physics, opponents getting trapped behind walls or in them and being unhittable

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is the only one that should be fixed and stay that way.
