Actually I think Break Frees are useful.
Right click on three same size and type inspirations to change them into a Breakfree.
Making a new Pool of break free powers is pointless.
-Rachel-
[/ QUOTE ]
hmmm well according to your logic then these powers are also pointless -
stamina - this power isnt needed because we have blue inspirations. when your end gets low, just pop those.
who needs a whole new power.
accuracy boosting powers - who needs these when you have yellow inspirations. lets get rid of these unneeded powers also since inspirations do the same thing
damage boosting powers - well again totally not needed since there are red inspirations.
rez powers - get rid of these too since we have awakens. empath and other healer types should just carry awakens and pass them out when needed.
while we are at it, may as well get rid of defense powers since we can just use purple and orange inspirations.
wow who would have thought there are so many pointless powers that arnt needed because we have inspirations?
lets get rid of all these powers.
after all, who wants our characters to be self sufficient its much better to be forced to rely on inspirations for our survival. -
heres a random thought i just had about planning for double xp weekend
its double xp weekend and say you finally get onto freedom server which took forever to do since its at capacity.
you play one character....then you decide its time to switch characters and get xp for another....
you log off and of course this puts you back at the log in screen where you enter your password.
you log back on....and.....what happens if the server is full?
Do you loose your spot on the server and cant get back on?
or does the server remember you and you can get back on the server without having to wait?
I plan to level up as many alts as possible, but am wondering if thats going to be possible. I hope everytime I change characters I dont have to wait to get back on the server again.
Or how about if you get DC? which happens alot on double xp weekend. do you loose your spot on the server? -

I bet that doing MA boss farms at regular xp is probably better xp then double xp non-MA content.
[/ QUOTE ]
You'd lose that bet. But people in the game have consistently proven their ability to ignore the crunched numbers and stick stubbornly to what they know.
--NT
[/ QUOTE ]
well i dont crunch numbers at all and dont pay attention to the actual xp numbers that i get....the only thing i watch and pay attention to is how fast my xp bar moves.
and my xp bar moves very very fast when im doing lvl 54 boss farms. especially when i bring a low level character to those missions. its amazing just how many levels a lowbie can get in just one map run of a boss farm.
now its been along while since i last did a double xp weekend....but from what i remember my xp bar never moved as fast it does with MA content.
and you most definitely could not gain as many levels per map from double xp non MA content as you get from a regular xp MA boss farm map.
but if the number crunchers say im wrong, then they are probably right because i have no idea what the actual numbers are lol.
im sure what you do to get xp is also a factor, like doing a double xp taskforce might be better xp then regular xp boss farm MA maps. -
[ QUOTE ]
Personally, I think it would be interesting if Double-XP only applied to non-MA PvE content.
[/ QUOTE ]
if they did this then players would just keep doing MA farms all weekend like usual.
It will take more then double xp non-MA content to get people to leave the MA building.
there wouldnt be any point in doing non-MA content at double xp
I bet that doing MA boss farms at regular xp is probably better xp then double xp non-MA content. -
noooooo!! they destroyed the AE building!!! where will I go now to get XP and kill baddies??
will i have to leave atlas park??? no, please no....
im going through ticket withdrawal already....
I can just see the headlines now!!
AE building nuked!!
Almost all of the total hero population wiped out when they were sitting around in the AE building waiting for farm teams!!
what will paragon city do now?? -
every MMO is about grinding.
the trick to if its fun or not is sugar coating.
if the grind is sugar coated just right, you dont really notice you are grinding.
the secret to a good MMO is making your grind with just the right amount of sugar coating.
when i first started COX the game was just so much fun and so neat to play i had a sweet time playing and never really noticed the grind at all.
but now that ive played COX for many years ive gotten used to the sugar flavor and the im very aware of the repetitive grind of this game.
i can only play COX in small doses these days, like an hour or two a day and I am constantly switching which characters I play to try to keep variety. Ill do one mission with one character, then switch to another character and do a different level/zone mission.
the problem with COH is that its all about your super powers and nothing really else. and you only get super powers through grinding levels.
there is the grind to 20 until you get stamina and your travel powers set up. i hate this grind, not having stamina is horrible.
then there is the 20-32 grind until you get your lvl 32 power. (this grind takes so long you can prob divide up into two grinds by the time you get to lvl 32 its like OMG finally)
then there is the 32-38 grind when you get your highest secondary power. the level 30's are some of the longest grinds in the game.
then there very very long grind to lvl 50.
so i find the grind is more apparent because I always have some set goal/level that I want to reach that keeps my mind on the XP bar all the time like watching a pot waiting for the water to boil. -

Player Notes Patch Notes
According to the link:
<ul type="square">[*]Only you will see the Player Notes that you write and ratings you give. Since these notes are stored locally on your computer, other players cannot see your notes and ratings.[/list]
[/ QUOTE ]
ok then, it says that only you see your notes AND RATINGS so im guessing then that no one else sees your stars either.
which is very good i think -
[ QUOTE ]
You can see your own notes, but nobody else can, they're yours. However, the star rating you give and recieve is viewable by all.
[/ QUOTE ]
huh. interesting. is this star system used by alot of players? or only a very few?
ive never heard of anyone mention in game about this.
where can i read more about how this star system works, tried google search, but all i get is how to rate AE missions with stars.
im guessing 5 stars is good.
is your star rating a total of all the star ratings youve been given?
all it takes is one annoying person to give you one star and ruin your rating?
i dunno if i like this star system -
[ QUOTE ]
You can give anyone you run across a note for your own reference. Its kind of like flagging someone instead of putting them on your ignore list. It reminds you of why you either liked or disliked someone or whatnot.
Just right click them and add note.
[/ QUOTE ]
oh ok, but its for your own use. no one else sees the notes and stars you gave the player. only you see the notes you added right? -
[ QUOTE ]
Form your own teams, find out who the idiots are, give them one star and add a Note saying "idiot", and then kick them. There, problem solved.
[/ QUOTE ]
i havnt played the game in over a year now. what is this "star" thing and what do you mean about adding a "note"?
do you mean that team leaders can give the players in their team a star rating and add notes about them that other players can see?
can anyone give me some more info, or a website to read about these stars and notes?
im very disturbed by the thought that other players can rate other players with stars and make notes about them....i can imagine the abuse that kinda system would have -
same problem.
as soon as i try to pull up bidding and sales history of an item, the game freezes and crashes.
then i gotta go through the verify image process
is there an official sticky or other official info about this problem? i didnt see anything posted... -
a completely random powerset.
whenever you click a power, you never know whats going to happen. sometimes you shoot fire, or next time you blast them with energy, or maybe youll freeze them with ice. next time its anyones guess.
you could divide it up into categories....
random range attack, with a low, medium and high level version
random melee attack, with a low, medium and high level version
random travel power
random hold power
or you could just have it totally random, who knows what will happen
this powerset would be very entertaining to me -
hmmm....tekkaman, i dont know how to read your post. it almost sounds condescending.
that us poor complaining unprepared pve players have not reached your pvp greatness yet, and thus yet are not enlightened enough to grasp the challenge of pvp.
the main reason i think the OP made this post was to give some insight and feedback as to what pvp is really like in this game, and to prepare players for some of the bad realities of pvp. thats all. i dont think its about some of the things you said.
[ QUOTE ]
PvP is not 1v1, it's GvG(Group Vs Group, or in this game, Team Vs Team). It's SG vs SG, not 1v1. The name of the game is Zerg vs Zerg.
[/ QUOTE ]
i dont think pvp should be just for groups. you can be a lone player, and attack other single players. its more dangerous going into a pvp zone by yourself, but you dont have to be in a group. and some of us our solo players.
you mentioned that being in a group solves alot of the situations and things mentioned in this post, but, so far from what ive seen, group tactics are not something you can rely upon much on the battlefield, its way to chaotic, and you cant always be in range of the powers that can help you.
thats why its important to be as self suffuicent as possible.
and its too bad that pvp in this game is so inspiration dependent. you say that its part of the game, and that its the players responsibility to always have full tray of insp ready, and i agree, you have to. but again, you cant always rely on having those insp, and i think pvp would be much better if we didnt have inspirations, if instead there was some other way to counter being mezzed, like every arch has some counter power in their powerset they can use once in awhile.
[ QUOTE ]
One post was definitely against Stalkers, and while I agree their burst DPS is amazing, it does not mean that they cannot be nullified.
[/ QUOTE ]
no, none of the posts were against stalkers, they were about simply preparing players for the fact that they will and can be assassinated at any time. thats all. its frustrating dying without being able to retaliate, but it happens. there was nothing negative said about stalkers.
all in all, i think its good that posts like these are made for new players or people who are trying out pvp in this game, since there are alot of things to learn and it can be very frustrating since the mechanics of pve and pvp are totally different. we go into pve missions feeling like a hero, we know we will succeed with all our superpowers, but in pvp, we can end up powerless and dying very often.
and of course there is just the simple fact there are alot bad people out there that will make pvp miserable, if you let them..... -
[ QUOTE ]
That, too, is covered under "The most important thing to expect in PVP is that there will be many times you will be defeated without any possible way to defend yourself."
[/ QUOTE ]
no, see i dont think you can simplify it that way.
thats why i added the post about assassin strike.
there are actually many ways that "you will be defeated without any possible way to defend yourself"
maybe we can make a list
here are some -
1) assassin strike, as i mentioned, why i put it first, is this is the most suprising and annoying one, you could be fighting an opponent, or surveying the battle field from a distance, trying to determine the right moment to strike, or tactic to use, you could be just about to kill someone, or you could be lured to attack what would seem to be an easy target, or you could be just adjusting your costume and fixing your hair, and suddenly.....dead. no retalition, nothing. just dead.
2)you can be chain held, or immobilized and be able to do nothing as you watch your health dwindle away.
3)you could be teleported to a trap, and there are many types, and you die.
4)you could have so many status effects and debuffs on you that you cant move, you cant hit, and your doing no damage, that youve been debuffed so bad that even if were you try to pick your nose, you would miss. so no matter what you do a hospital trip is soon coming. this one is the most frustrating one, cuz you are giving it your all, your blasting away with everything you got, and your doing nothing. the opponents health is barly less than full, and your attacks are doing very small amounts of damage.
well, ill leave to it everyone else to list some more ways that
"you will be defeated without any possible way to defend yourself" cuz im sure there are more -
fight any good vampires lately buffy?
sorry just had to say that
another point you should make is -
you will be assassin striked and killed instanstly if you are not a tank, at any time, and very often, especially if you stand still and look at the scenery. all youll see is "assassin strike" lots of damage, then "you are dead, go to hospital" window.
this will happen alot if you dont have tactics, repulsion powers, or move around alot. even moving around doenst help that much, like when you are fighting someone one on one, and you think, "hey, im winning...", smack....assassin strike..you are dead....so just like buffy said, pvp is not fair.
i just made a post myself, cuz i have been trying pvp out again lately, here is the post
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showf...part=1#4984923
so summ it up, i asked whether or not you needed to make changes to your build to survive at pvp, and got some good feedback. i think the answer to that question myself is yes.
you do need to make changes,
such as you cant rely on fly as a travel power, there are lots of powers with -fly on them, youll need a toggle dropping power like brawl, teleport foe is great for catching your opponent, and you will need a good single target high damage power, slotted with three acc, three dam. three acc, cuz you will be debuffed alot.
i do have to disagree with you about not communicating with the opponent. some people like to roleplay.
but do not bring your personal fight details into broadcast, like
"so and so is a noob
you suck
yaaaa come on, come and get it, blah blah blah"
please do not bring your little personal dramas into broadcast.
its really annoying. -

LOL dont even think of having SS as a travel and goign to this zone.

Incorrect. It's been mentioned in dev digest previously that there will be many
elevators.
I mean, consider the Quartermaster in Cap au Diable, on top of the skyscraper. You
just enter the building at ground level, take the elevator, bam.
[/ QUOTE ]
how nice recluse has included handicap access to grandville and his web.
just like when they added those ramps up to the tech and science quartermasters in the middle of sharkhead in a patch a few months back, for all those poor lvl 20 villians with no travel power....
its good to know recluse is such a caring guy -
Catsi, maybe you made your reply after i made mine, but i provided a solution to the problem of random duel invites
just add in the options "block duel invites"
just like they have an option to block teleports, and things like that.
this way, you would recieve no duel invites, and the other person would get a message saying, player not accepting duels.
as well, you can only challegne someone to a duel if they are in range, jsut like you cant read someones bio if they are too far away.
same thing with duels, you would have to click on the character, then select duel you coudlnt challenge someone to a duel using the find member feature. -
in world of warcraft when you select a character player, like in COH, and you see options, you would see a
challenge to duel option
of course you would have to also have an option to block all duel invites, for people that dont want to be randomly invited to duels, so that the person sending the invite would see the message
player not accepting duels at this time.
in WOW, when the player accepts, a flag drops from the sky, a countdown starts, and then the players can attack each other. you can do it anywhere, except certain city areas i think. you can even do it while in a team in a zone.
the only thing im not sure about is if other players can interfere with the duel, no one does in WOW, players just leave the duelers alone and watch. i dont know if there is any code that prevents interfence or how that would work, say you friend healing you while you are dueling.
that might be the only problem to implementing a duel system, is preventing other players from interfering. -
maybe something like the world of warcraft duel system?
where players can challenge each other to a duel.
i often wondered why they didnt implement something like that for city of villians.
it seems to work well in world of warcraft, you see players dueling all the time. i cant think of any reasons why it wouldnt work in COV/COH
i know you can go to the arena, but thats a whole trip. by the time you get there, you might not be in the mood anymore, and some situations make it a pain to have to go all the way to the arena just to solve an arguement. -
neat, i got mine to work too....
i kept getting improper picture type message, then realised that in the URL i wastn putting the .GIF extension at the end of the file name....oops...
ive got to do some hunting now for images... -
ok, you should change then the wording a bit....
the part where it says....
the final word of the spell was broken, and lightning struck him, the "him" makes me think you are talking about jack, since you didnt mention the life mage in that paragraph.
it sound more like lighting hit jack.
if you make it more clear that suddenly lightning struck the life mage, breaking the spell in mid incantation, thus only partially sending jack into the netherworld, and he now has attachments to both worlds, that would explain things better
the name lurid lightning is a great name, id be suprised if anyone else has taken it. -
the questions i have after reading his origin....
now that he has these magical powers, what are his motivations for fighting crime, for helping paragon city?
you mentioned he is in hard times now, so is he in it for the money? for self serving purposes?
and it is unclear as to what happened with the life mage. was he trying to steal your soul? it sounds more like he was trying to help you, that he gave you magic powers and sent you to atlas park, for some unknown reason, which im not sure a life mage from the villianous group circle of thorns would do.
i think you need to clarify/expand on why and how you got your powers.
perhaps you are some pawn in a greater scheme, he gave you these powers to use for the circles purposes, but you fight to not do that....unless you want to be a villian....
otherwise, everything sounds good, though jack wolf isnt an original name, it is a cool onethe name no doubt has been used before, but i cant think offhand of where
for the choice of your name for superhero, that really should be your decision, i wouldnt like to play a hero that was named for me, some typical things come to mind like soul blade, life blade, seeker, soul seeker, rebirth, soul reborn, i dunno, things on that line would seem to fit....hope that helps -
hey, i dont know if everyone has had a chance yet to check it out, but, now that the train route is back up, "unofficially" as of yet, to croatoa, i might be reconsidering my apartment in Talos.
I will miss the sun, Croatoa does seem to have this smoggy, lighty foggy sorta air quality to it, but overall architecture is very nice, and has a quaint village feel to it, with nice patios and shops here and there. It does have beaches to offer and boating.
and fall being one my favorite seasons, its interesting to think of a place where it is always fall.
the three hour train ride is a downside. but i didnt find the witches or other neighbours around too bad. just wish they wouldnt throw fire all over the place.
and the mana you can feel in this place. there definitly is an atmosphere around. i think ill have to look into a couple places out there once the train is officially up and running. -

I forgot to mention that the fishing in the blood rivers of FBZ is amazing...
Just recently, I had to fight for my very survival with a 470 pounds trout with sharp teeths and regen powers from hell.
If you are looking for a fishing spot, send me a tell
[/ QUOTE ]
and just how many eyes did that trout have hmmm?? ill definetly enjoy the fishing, but i think ill have to pass on the BBQ after, im not sure i would want to see the results of eating the...umm...catch of FBZ rivers.....
i think the only way i could live in perez park would be if if i could clear out one of those circle of thorns underground cities/temples. apart from having to go across rope bridges to go the bathroom, and figuring out which portal takes you to the kitchen, i like the decor and feel of those places. though i guess the gas bill must be high with all those torches going.
eden could be a nice place. but im not sure i like the....wildlife.....wandering mushroom men, boulders, and those killer bees would ruin any picnic. but now that hamidon raids arnt in style anymore, you at least wont have to deal with the constant of traffic of lvl 50's going back and forth through eden all the time...probably much more peaceful now... -
dark astoria.....well, you got a point there it would be very quiet....deathly quiet....and youd never have to worry about the weather....its foggy every day....
i have feeling though those shamans wouldnt make great neighbours....hey, got any spare bones i can borrow?? how about any chickens or babies i can sacrifice??
so you would take over the military base in firebase zulu....im not sure id want to live in a military base, military food, beds wont be comfortable....but they got a great medical facility there....youd never have to worry....and i guess taking the troops out hunting would be fun....
