Quote:You might want to make sure this makes it into the GR FAQ, etc.
- Players removed from the Closed Beta phase will not be considered a "player in good standing", and even if they qualify for the "Veteran" Pool for Going Rogue Closed Beta, they will not be offered an invitation to that Closed Beta.
A good example of why they don't want people to talk about closed beta is the original Defiance changes that got pulled - right after Castle decided to pull them, some SG posted a you-tube about them, and got the boards riled up about a feature that didn't happen.Quote:Because things change.
What's in the Closed Beta might not be what's in the Open Beta, or even in the final product. Leaks of things that get people excited, only to have them change later, leads to possible disappointment or even nerdrage.
You'll notice that they never announce things that aren't 99.99% certain to happen. It's the same deal.
Posi: "Hey guys, we're working on this...and it might be like this."
Fans: "YAY!"
Posi: "Oh, wait...never mind...now we're not working on it anymore."
Fans: "BOO! WE HATE YOU, POSI!"
So yeah...it's not to keep things "secret"...it's to assure that what hits the public will almost certainly be what the final product will be, or at least a pretty close approximation. Showing the public as a whole a rather buggy and incomplete version of the final product is never a good idea.
I was expecting either a vanilla or Recluse Rick-Roll. Very disappointed.Quote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSyQJkjwaw4
There's your leak, you now know stuff about closed beta that you shouldn't and will be banned soon.
Isn't he the double-normal-hp and has Rad toggles AV that is a possible spawn on 1 in 4 Halloween doors? -
To expand on the "Do a new character" - there are four "epic" ATs - these have some in-game story attached to them. Two heroside, two villainside. These are unlocked by getting a fifty of the same side - so level fifty hero unlocks the Hero Epic Archetypes (aka Hero EATS or HEATS) and a level fifty villain Villain Epic Archetypes (aka VEATS). These have some... learning curves I guess you could say, so that is part of the reason for the unlock.
As far as the community - be careful and do not venture further if you have a heart condition. We've had WoW transplants almost get a heart attack from how accepting/welcoming our online community is (there are few downers, but the bad ones can't post anymore).
That isn't a wall of text.
There is no "DPS/Healer/Tank" holy trinity like in most fantasy MMOs - often, you will find the one thing that can make "us" on the forums into rabid savages out for blood is to call defenders "healers"
But that's because healing is only the focus of one set of theirs - they do many tricks, and most of the damage mitigation comes from non-healing forms (buffs/debuffs).
If you play on Virtue, Freedom, or Justice - and don't mind a crash course from the group that is why villains can't have nice things (supposedly!) - try Repeat Offenders - we are always willing to help. -
Quote:Lifetime subs for games worry me. That makes it sound like they just want a quick infusion of cash before folding. For the health of this game I'm willing to accept -never- having a lifetime sub offer for it. *shrugs*
CO offering such is another reason I am not that curious about CO.
No more "Disable Enemy Chat : Enable/Disable"? Boooo!Quote:Nearly everything in the options window can be changed via the option_set and option_toggle slash command, /option_list will give you a list of the option names.
Also, the options have been re-organized a bit and confusing logic tests have been cleaned up.
All of the TF changes have been due to non-TF applications of the TF mode (AE, Oruo).Quote:There have been a couple of changes to the way TFs are set up (like the team not automatically disbanding after the TF finishes). I know Poshyb talked about experimenting with "lighter" or "relaxed" TF rules (in i14 beta), one example of which was inviting people to the TF after it had been started (the way AE arcs are set up now).
Just thought that maybe the new super-sidekicking system might bring with it another "relaxed" rule for TFs. I know the STs I've run that rely almost entirely on TF content would LOVE that.
From the sound of it, the 35+ leader will be unneeded.Quote:Does this mean you can walk a level one villain and a level one hero to the Rikti War Zone as long as they are on a team with a 35+ leader?
No more Sul'dam and damme!!
Didn't you hear? He died, and instead of debt, he got curedQuote:you being a radioactive genius trapped in a body armor of your own design.

Reminds me of that fake 404 error page that states "YOUR BOSS IS COMMING! RUN" if you read it.

Quote:From the mention of getting a warning, sounds like it's when the mission is set.So, if a level50 has the star, everyone will be SSK'd to 50 (i.e., 49 if they weren't already 50). If the leader chooses the mission of a level 10 member of the team, then they all exemp/sk to 10. When that happens, Posi didn't say, hopefully only when they enter the mission.
-
Quote:With all those examples, I think the only thing left for you is the death penalty for breaking the "no-logic" laws, GadgetDon. Been nice knowing youWell, there's...
"Hey, I'm doing the Praetorian War arc, who wants in?" instead of "OK, I'm doing the Praetorian War arc. One SK spot available. Mission is at level 42, so looking for people 40-45 level"
Or...
"Anyone interested in a Hess TF in Striga? Minimum level 25." as opposed to "OK, forming a Striga TF. Level 25-30 for XP."
Or...
"Forming ITF, 5 slots, who wants in?" as opposed to the various things about mentor slots, the level you're running at, and so forth. -
Quote:I said my pants were boing-ing earlier today. But Twitter vibrates my hips, the forums you have to refresh manually.
Did i just say "vibrates my hips"?

Because being in a team will force you to exemp no matter what. No choice. So to unexemp, you will have to leave the team.Quote:Hmm, why is un-auto-Exing so clunky? Why do you have to quit the team? Why not just use the existing UI element of the UnEx button in the team window? That sounds much simpler to me. You click it, you're your natural level again. Click it again, now that it says "Exem," you're exemplared to the team leader again. Much less clunky.
Why does everyone think it's so hard to get to TV's front door without SJ/Flight/JJ/TP?Quote:You mean to the Shard where level 1s can buy a Jet Pack now?
While you're waiting for a Youtube journey of a level 1 to the Storm Palace, enjoy this YouTube gem of a runner getting to the Terra Volta reactor door without fly or special jump powers. -
Hmm, multi-quote doesn't like too much multi-quote... all those things I wanted to say...
Anyway, big one is - if you want to report a bad rep comment (as in, personal attack) I click on the post the rep was off of, hit "report" on myself, and mention the issue is a rep comment and how/why it's a violation of policy (aka personal attack).
Quote:I just don't like people who are going to hide in the mob. I have no issues with neg rep and no remarks. I have no issue with most any negative comment with a name, and hell, if it's constructive criticism, I doubt I would mind no name. Attack me and not have the guts to say your name? No guts, not worth reading.there is something very Freudian about reactions like this
i think you feel threatened by the anonymous buzzing gnats that you can't directly address so you come out with all this bravado demanding the direct confrontation that you so desperately need for validation
the clique/circle jerk argument is something that gets tossed around without much evidence behind it but I'm guessing you're just using it as an attempt to put something empirical in front of your feelings of threatened masculinity
yeah, I'm armchair psychoanalyzing. don't like it? why don't you negative rep me over it
Personally, I want the art to portray something. I want it to have a context, if it's going to push my limits. Underscore, I think, brought up child ****. If it's part of story, I could probably enjoy the craftsmanship - for an example of what I mean, watch Kill Bill (Vol. 2) That was a PERFECT use of such animation, and for such scenes, awesome. It gave you a solid piece of the story while keeping real kids out of it.Quote:You go on being offended by whatever you desire to be offended by. Don't expect me to understand it, don't expect me to sympathize with it, don't expect me to think highly of you for it.
Art is supposed to create a reaction, this is true. However, to censor ANY art because of that reaction is the height of ignorance. I've seen works that made my stomach turn. I applauded it for the artist's ability to do his/her job. I didn't spit on the artist or the work.
EDIT: To put it another way, any drawing of any event, no matter how grotesque we may find the act it *represents,* is still nothing more than lines on paper or graphical representations of 1s and 0s. If you can't separate reality from fiction, there's no help for you.
I like your sig pic
I think his sig has more value, of any kind, than some of the Saturday morning cartoons I've seen now-days.Quote:the game is as violent as a Saturday morning cartoon show
your sig is, you know, more so
and i think extra context is needed to make that picture more than your character violently killing someone
Ren and Stimpy has always repulsed me. South Park I'm on the fence about.
NOT THE BOOBIES!Quote:What you think has rapidly become irrelevant to me. Why don't you go rant about all the boobies in avatars for a while?
-
I've been hit with the "Door opened but the graphic didn't update on my machine" bug before, just seems to be a latency thing or something where a packet got dropped... *shrug* When it happens, it still lets me click, but the door never opens because it's already open. Maybe have clicking on the door always get a response (even if the server says open) so if it is really open, the client knows to open it (and thus it goes away?).

Quote:When did you stop playing? Either i14 or i15 got rid of the market dump (or was that only for active accounts? :/)Hey there Zloth, yeah I missed the last one but was in for the one before that ^_^. Nasty computer problems + no job + low hire rate where I live = very hard to get computer fixed. Sold a few things and did some odd jobs when I could find them to raise the money heh.
I did find it interesting that the Devs went right to an open beta and no closed beta test for 15. -
Quote:It's because all the servers have to be on the same version as the client - and the client is always updated to the most recent version due to the updater. So therefore, all the servers would be loaded with the beta build. They do have two from time to time, but the way their system seems to work is they have to block access to all the test servers during a closed beta test.
It is sort of annoying if you were just wanting to jump over to check a build or test a power or whatever, but it shouldn't be closed for too long. hopefully.
Only way to get around that would involve a 3rd client setup (Live, Test, Beta) -
Originally (and still is, as far as I know) 10 minutes until pop-up, then 5 minutes until it starts 30-second countdown.

Quote:I hope you come back - for your friends' sakes if nothing elseWow, sorry to disappoint. I wasn't asking for anything but an answer to why something was happening in-game that wasnt supposed to be happening. I wasnt asking for a magical fix, I was frustrated and curious and wanted to know 'why' something was happening.
I didnt get rude and disruptive, quite the opposite actually - the GM was extremely 'smart-alecy' (I know that's probably spelled wrong but you get the idea). I was just asking why, and the guy started playing with me. It was weird. In the past few years my only very few experiences with GMs were them being nice. If I had been rude and disruptive that would have been evident in the copy of the conversation I mailed to Texas. The fact that a customer service manager called me probably shows my claims had a bit of merit and that I wasn't the one being rude.
I made the mistake of asking how to file a formal complaint. The GM changed the subject. Stupid me - persisted again and asked how to go about writing a letter of complaint. His answer was to avoid the subject again. The last words before my account was suspended were 'Are you refusing to tell me where to send a letter of complaint?' Hehe, bang. My account was down.
I didnt whine to anyone. I sent a formal letter of complaint, along with a transcript of the conversation, and then a follow-up to describe my interaction to date and to cancel my account.
To me COX is a social game. I was the head of a SG and had many friends ingame that I will miss. I like COX. It was tough to cancel my account, but the interaction I had was beyond my limit to say 'forget about it'. I appreciate the customer service manager calling me, and even she said 'everything that could go wrong went wrong' with my interactions with customer support.
If you EVER have a bad issue with the GMs/CSRs in City of, PM Nivene or whoever is currently in the OCR. In my experience, they take complaints serious and have been known to expedite issues for various people.
Any thread with tags will have, in the same "block" as the thread title but aligned right not left, a little tag icon. Hover over it to see the tags.
They are an online company, with various venues of online contact - to me, that makes it a little more likely you will get a response if they know what they are doing. Snail mail means you decided to spend extra money to complain or whatever. -
Nope, I do that semi-frequently.
I didn't find that particularly Stick-in-the-A.Quote:Negative rep doesn't bother me. So far, it's actually been pretty funny.- "Like the wiki, but not the self-righteousness" on this thread. Meh again, whatever. I didn't think my post was particularly self-righteous, certainly not as much as it could (or perhaps should) have been. But I'm glad whoever left it likes the wiki!

The fact that you have that much rep just screams the need for a "PK -rep farm thread" in games :P Gratz on your rep, though.Quote:I don't worry about negative rep, and you shouldn't either. Why? Because the amount of negative rep someone can give you is a THIRD of the amount of positive rep someone can give you.
The whole system is skewed to slowly bring people up. Which means that to actually get a negative rep over time you have to either:
- Ask for it or
- Be a REAL jerkwad.
I personally have received an EQUAL NUMBER of positive and negative rep votes, and look at my score. Proof positive.
So based off that, I give out 17 or so rep right now. - "Like the wiki, but not the self-righteousness" on this thread. Meh again, whatever. I didn't think my post was particularly self-righteous, certainly not as much as it could (or perhaps should) have been. But I'm glad whoever left it likes the wiki!

So will the person who gave me negitive rep while calling me a moron for still not being used to a brand new feature speak up now?
You seemed to have forgotten how to sign your name... -
Quote:I was talking about i15, you are talking i14.Not to mention the dozens of people who pointed out the AE exploits and massive farming potential BEFORE the issue went live. All that foreknowledge which was completely ignored when I15 was pushed out and then they issued those asinine dev announcements that anyone who takes advantage of the exploits that were already reported in Beta and still allowed to go live than those players will be subject to penalties. Additionally the badge retractions that also were talked about before the issue went live and yet still were put in and then quickly retracted which pissed off a LOT of people.
It's for those reasons I think you won't see an 'open' beta like that from the get go for a LONGGGG time if ever again.
And all considered, I have no real sympathy for those who broke the rules and where punished.
Now those who didn't and got smacked? Full sympathy there. -
Quote:I doubt they will have you bypass the password - having to re-enter it is a security feature.Just hope that the "que" feature will be like this. You login (pass the que) choose our server and your character... play abit and then when you feel the urge to alt. You log out of your char and gets to the characters on your server (No entering the entire password and waiting in que again).

Quote:yeah, the number of people complaining that it wasn't anywhere near ready for release, WTF are the devs doing putting this out, etc, despite the massive "THIS IS IN A CLOSED BETA STATE" warnings made me come close to attempting to removing my frontal lobe via my belly button...It didn't help that i15's "Clopen Beta" was a massive mess, which I suspect will teach them better than to do those again, honestly I'd prefer they stuck to small-focus Closed Betas (regardless of if I get in or not), because it tends to turn out better issues; I'll just check my email and wait.

Quote:Basically it's this :Well, I learned something today. I figured that was how it worked because the zones fail sometimes without the whole server going down, and also the way the markets are per-faction rather than per-server.
Each server has it's own cluster of machines.
They then have several other servers : One Wentworths Market, one Black Market, one for global chat, and one for Mission archiect.
Except for the global chat, those extra servers are shared between EU and NA servers.
As I recall, Global Chat for the NA servers, at least, is housed in the Western Sever Farm, so if something takes ALL the western servers down, global NA chat goes down too. -

Quote:Hope not, on the serverless.Did any of the servers lock out this past weekend, outside of the emergency maintenance?
I played on and off most of the weekend and I don't remember any of the servers even going red let alone greying out. Now maybe I was in the middle of gaming during the worst of it but I didn't even see chatter about server outages which in the past I've seen alot of.
Makes me wonder if a queuing system is being implemented for additional reasons. Any chance of going serverless in the near future?
Some have also pointed out there was no free reactivation this DXP weekend, as far as the no-greyed-servers bit goes. -

Some others :
IIRC - If I recall correctly
TA - Trick Arrow
MM - Mastermind, and some people use this to refer to Mayhem maps (yay for context
)
And a whole lot more...
