(After shaking the cobwebs outta his head) ...Whoa! Sorry. Got a little confused there for a second. -
Or increase the "heal-back" portion of PA's damage. To maybe something like 50% of the base damage (not enhanced damage). IE if PA smacks something for 100 points of damage...50 points heals back at base. If PA's damaged is bumped up to 150 via enhancements, the heal-back is still 50 points as its going off base damage before enhancements...which IIRC is how it currently works...just with a smaller % of the damage healing back.

Quote:Right...thanks, Oath.Neither Full Auto nor Rain of Arrows appear to be changing at all. Geyser and Overload are both dropping to 120s, but no damage reduction was mentioned. (Frankly no damage reduction would be needed. They'll still do less damage than the formerly-crashing nukes, but only recharge 25seconds faster, at base.)
-
The one thing i'm curious about is the change coming to the crashless nukes (RoA, FA, Geyser, etc.). I know that at least some (if not all) of them are getting their recharges tweaked...but that's all I've read on the subject. Are they gonna have their damage modified as well (ie be "normalized" with the rest of the nukes), or will it stay the same?
-
Quote:I was gonna say something a bit snarky when i read Rak's post but...i felt that ultimately...it wasn't worth it and i would regret wasting my time, effort, and valuable talent for sarcasm that could be put to better use elsewhere. I don't care about pouters anyway.Ultimately this topic isn't worth worrying about, and I regret making it. The devs don't care about set balance anyway.

I'll stick with my "water" water blaster. Little hard to justify "blood blasting" with a name like Tsunami Ami Yumi. (Although i did concider a water/poison corr with red tinted water and poison powers.)

Quote:Which does not surprise me at all. From their discussion during the coffee talk, it sounds like this is exactly the hold-up. The idea of a potentially perma-unkillable tank on a damage archetype.
During many of the early threads about the idea of proliffing Illusion to dominators, there were almost always nay-sayers that crept in saying that the set would be bad on doms because so few of the powers in the set would benefit from Domination. Of course, there is no denying this.
The problem with that line of thought is a bit of a mix of not "thinking outside the box" and not "seeing the forest for the trees". None of them stopped to think that much of Illusion control HINGES on PA. Sure...Spectral McSpooky-pants is pretty nice...but he doesn't keep stuff off of you NEARLY as well as the phantoms. And ever since the nerf to AoE mass holds of shorter durations and longer recharges...flash doesn't have the impact it once did. And honestly...even if you pair Illusion with a set that has an immoblize or extra hold(s)...Controllers don't benefit much from Containment either. So there blows THAT "no domination benefit" argument out the window too.
In fact...its pretty much BECAUSE of PA that makes Ill/ trollers so nasty. Especially when combined with the right sets like /Rad and /Time. Why? Because while you can't directly buff the damage of the phantoms...you can debuff the badz into little more then mewing kittens while the phantoms hammer away at them with impunity. At perma-PA levels...you've basically got what every mastermind would give his left......ear...for. Unkillable pets that pretty much keep stuff away from him while he sits back, drinks coffee (with enriche creamer), and reaps the rewards.
Sure, a dominator doesn't have all those nice, pretty debuffs (although sleet from the ice epic is dang sweet)...he has an entire secondary devoted to dishing out hurt. Combine that with PA...yeesh. Would probably make a controller blush a pretty pink.
So yeah...would not be surprised in the least if this was the point of contention for a prolif.
....I still want it though. -
Quote:No. Just...no.If doms got illusion but phantom army was changed or replace would you still want to play it?
PA is the meat and potatos of Illusion and the entire reason i would play this set on a dominator. PA + Dom Assault Sets = nearly worry free, wholesale slaughter...which MAY be part of the reason for the hold-up...although i would argue that Plant already has that in spades thanks to SoC, which is FAR more easily perma'd. -
Quote:Don't get me wrong (and you probably didn't...but hey...never know), I freakin love water blast. Only posted what I did cuz I'd read through a couple of other threads regarding water blast and i kept reading over and over how it stacked up to Fire and that it didn't perform as well (read: do the gobs and gobs of god-awful of end of the world as we know it damage...blah blah blah.......haterz) as if everything MUST be Fire or its garbage.I bought water blast and leveled up a toon in anticipation of the coming changes to geyser.
While currently its not up at fire's level once it has the faster recharging geyser it should have more than enough controlish type effects that it will perfrom very well indeed.
Didn't know that geyser was also gonna get adjusted with the upcoming nuke changes...so i'm assuming that they're all gonna get pretty much "normalized"...more or less. Hmm...that mean that Geyser damage is gonna go up or down...cuz that thing is just WOOOOO. I've done some room clearing with that bad boy. So...yeah. Kinda lookin forward to that...as well as the adjustment to the 40' blasts getting bumped to 80'....water jet at that distance? Yes please.
I actually kinda went with /ice on my blaster in anticipation for the i24 changes and the +absorb coming to chilling embrace. Now that i know that geyser too will also be getting adjusted (i knew the crash nukes were getting treated...didn't know that the already crashless ones were too)...........i freakin hate you, man. Now i gotta wait for THAT too! GEEZ!
Jerk! -
Short answer: No.
Long answer: KD is literally nothing more than a low mag KB. Mag 0.67 and down to be exact. KnockUP is its own beast. The higher the KU mag...the higher stuff flies upward...but that mag has absolutely zero impact to KB mag. -
...Ya know...in a way I kinda wish that the devs would remove IO's from the game entirely. Not because I particularly dislike the system or because I haven't really discovered how to make complete and full use of it, or the fact that i'm not some kinda uber farmer/marketeer/what-have-you that has gobs and gobs of influence and can afford infinite influence builds on a dozen different toons and not bat an eyelash. But simply...just to shut these twits that cry "IO OR SUCKS!" the freakin hell up.
Honestly..by that logic....95%+ of my toons must be just absolutely horrible! I mean...they're all on pure SO builds! <GASP!> I SUCK! </em eyeroll>
Seriously.......get over yourselves.
/rantend -
...Then prepare for disappointment. Fire/ this is not. ...And frankly...NOTHING is Fire other than Fire. Attempt this comparison...and you will cry doom...as others have already cried because Water blast isn't a splashy Fire Blast.
Fire blast should not be, nor should ever be, the standard metric of which to measure other sets against. Results are already skewed in favor of Fire Blast before the first number is crunched...often heavily.
As for the OP
I'm loving my Water/Ice blaster Tsunami Ami Yumi. I may not get a ton of damage mileage out my secondary...but it's got some pretty good mitigation. (Honestly...i partly picked ice in preperation for the i24 blaster changes and +absorb on chilling embrace.) I haven't really felt all that lacking in damage with her...mobs seem to go down plenty fast. -
Dunno if it got mentioned (even after this thread got a little necroed) but...
One idea that I think could help improve volty...is if there was some kind of target focus mechanic on it...or...something. IE in the same vein as if you were targeting through someone else, volty would target through you and focus fire...attack what you're attacking. Simple...but effective way to leverage it. -
Quote:Fixed that for ya. /EA...not /ELA. Energy...not Electric. Most the OP's problem sounds like inadequate slotting on both the brute and corruptor's part into their defensive abilities and end management. Also since the brute is a defense based brute, you should prioritized EF>LR>RA>RI and should conserve endurance by only using flares and fire blast until the boss is less then 30% when reliable scourge (50% chance) starts kicking in. At 20% prioritize everything into attacks as you will be getting crits on almost every attack.

Quote:The OF proc has a 20% chance to KD targets when slotted in a power that does not already possess KB/KD. For NOW...when slotted in powers that have KB (and damage) like most every attack in energy blast, tornado, bonfire, etc...it turns the KB in to KD 100% of the time. However...the proc is bugged (unless they fixed it and i missed the memo) and is not working properly when slotted into non-kb powers....ie not working at all. The devs are also planning to change the KB to KD part of the proc and give it a 40% chance to KD instead of KB. This is probably due, at least in part, to the nastiness that is powers like Bonfire with this proc.I haven't tried that. I stuck the set in Whirlpool thinking the chance to kd was universal to all powers with kb for the duration of the chance. If I'm wrong I'll def take a look but may still end up dropping F5 for WJ for the reason I listed. When I solo, kb isn't the reason I don't use it. The end use is. Although, I'm wondering if the frequency of WJ returning will cause me to use more end over time then F5 will.

Out of the 2 I've made so far...the one seeing the most screen time is my water/ice blaster Tsunami Ami Yumi on Virtue. Concept is that they're actually a set of twins that share the same powers over water and ice. For now the difference between them is purely cosmetic (basically palette swapped costumes since the toon is only lvl 28 right now), but I may eventually branch that out into 2 seperate builds with slightly different power selections (mainly in the pool power dept.).
-
Tex, I think I've said this before but...it needs saying again. I still love the names you come up with for your toons. LOL! So far I think my better names along the same lines as some of yours are Rocky Martin (had the idea of Rocky Balboulder spring to mind...but someone beat me to it...at least on that particular server) and (if i ever get around to making him...and assuming that the name isn't taken already) The Atomic Bum (or Nuclear Bum). Also just made a water/ice blaster named Tsunami Ami Yumi (identical twins? Or a case of multiple personalities?)...but not sure that really counts.
-
I still break out my rad/mm blaster Psygeiger from time to time. he's only lvl 18 right not and i haven't been playing him regularly...but he's still pretty fun. I should probably think about moving him to a different server though. Think he's sitting on guardian...which is pretty low pop and teams are sometimes a little hard to come by.
I decided on the rad/mm because there's a LOT of aoe potential there. Electron haze, nuetron bomb, irradiate, psy scream, psy tornado, psi shockwave (holy crap...i just thought about water/mm for aoe....nice. but i'm sticking with my water/ice blaster Tsunami Ami Yumi) -
Quote:I dunno about Kool Aid...but there's a Water Cooler in the "what water combos are you gonna make" thread.ROFL is your water blast toon Kool Aid Drinker ?
Seriously given how well the devs handled snipes its all the more reason to shout out in advance.
...Jus' sayin. -
Quote:Pretty much this...It is also interesting that you keep coming back to DP and its 'bad performance.' ... And before you go and bring up all the examples of people on the boards asking for DP tweaks..might wanna consider that the FIRST reason most bring up is the animations..NOT performance. Sure, the animation times are tied to performance..but if someone says Animation Times..to me, they dont like how something looks, not performs.
Typically, the most requested adjustments to DP that I usually see around the boards are:
Adjusted/Alternate animations. Usually the latter as many people don't particually care for the Equilibrium gun-fu motif. Those that chime in on adjusted animation times most often pick out Executioner's Shot and Piercing Shot...with a lesser degree on Hail of Bullets and Empty Clips (and sometimes Bullet Rain...though what i thought was slightly odd was the big hullabaloo of the curving bullets on that one. In "Wanted"...it was cool...awesome even. But in CoH...somehow it "didn't work". I'm STILL trying to figure that one out!)
More useful secondary effects and/or a damage ratio change on alternate ammo types (and making the secondary effects apply to the teir 1 attack Pistol). This is another biggie. It has long been agreed upon my many of the forumites that the secondary effects of most of the Swap Ammo types were near useless...particularly on a blaster. The slows on Cryo ammo wouldn't even make a snail flinch, and the -damage rarely, if ever, made even the slightest dent in mob damage output, even when leveraged to its utmost on a single target. Incendiary is just...well...extra damage. That at least worked out fairly well. The ability to apply effects with Pistols has been mentioned repeatedly, as it would aid in stacking secondary effect debuffs that much easier.
The other issue is the damage ratio when swapping ammo. The current ratio is (correct me if i'm wrong) something like 70/30, with the alternate damage type being the 30. Part of the gimmick (as we understood it) was that "Hey...running up against something that's weak to Cold damage? Use CRYO!" and other such things. However, in practice...it doesn't work out that way because the secondary damage, Cold in this example, makes for so little of the actual damage that it doesn't do so well in practice, often with the damage still being beaten out by using Incendiary Ammo. As it stands now, many players will use Standard Ammo while soloing so as to make use of the KB and Incendy Ammo while teaming for the extra damage and rarely ever touch the other 2 types...unless it's just for kicks.
And yes. I also have seen calls for a straight damage boost. But frankly...I see that nearly everywhere i go on these boards for the most part. That's not something that's restricted to DP. Of course...the funny thing is...most of the people calling for said damage boosts are also the very same one's that mention "fire" in the same sentence. Gee...real head scratcher there. Could it use a damage boost? <Shrugz> Eh. Honestly...i think tweaking the animation times a bit and making the set a bit quicker would do wonders for DP. Hell...look at fire blast (and formerly ice blast for ST damage). Part of what makes this set a top performer, aside of the gobs of damage it puts out, is the fact that it's FAST! You don't spend 3 hours whirling flames around your head before searing someone's face off. -
Haven't tried it out on beta (don't feel like having to reload/update that blasted beta server...AGAIN) but...i'm kinda leaning on a water/elec (or maybe /fire) blaster or a stormy corr or def. I tend to like thematic toons and the only thing up till now that made for good theme with storm (for me) was elec or ice...but water also fits that bill quite nicely...and I'd really like to get a stormy up there in levels (i've never made it to Tornado with storm being primary OR secondary).
-
Say what you will...call me what you want. I could really give a rat's rear but...
I rather enjoy my DP/Elec blaster. Not once have I thought "Gee...dual pistols sucks stinky donkey feet dipped in monkey poo." Now I'll grant you I much prefer it on a blaster as opposed to a defender or corruptor...but that has more to do with the AT's than the sets seeing as most of the blast sets run somewhat anemic damage IMO. Yes, yes...I know...not ALL of them do...that's just my personal experience. The only defender that really got anywhere was my TA/Archery defender. Kicked butt on teams...didn't solo so well...and I kinda blame the TA side of that because of all the setup he had to do before commensing with the butt kicking (i would say "sticking" but...yyyyyyeah. Let's just leave it at that.)
Could DP use some tweaks. Yup...most certainly could. Do I think that it's the end-all, be-all of "bad". NNNNNNNNNNNNOPE!
EDIT: And let's face it...blasters in GENERAL are in dire need of some additional...freakin SOMETHING! I like the AT and all...but...we needz us some sweet, sweet dev lovin...and we're finally getting some of that coming our way. Which is supposed to include some tweaking to DP in the way of some adjusted animation times. -
Quote:Wow...a whole set devoted to...Even if Illusion Control comes to Dominators I probably wouldn't make a serious one unless Illusion Assault is also made.

"Hey. What happened to Jimmy?"
"Hell if I know. He just started talking to himself and swinging at air and then he just...fell out, man."
"Weird."
"Pfft...yeah. I kept tellin the boss not to let this guy join up. Didn't seem quite right in the head. Guess I was right." -
