    A small request

    The short version:
Please let us keep the Ski Chalet all year. Thank you.

    The long version:
2009 was a great year for Roleplayers in CoX. We gained so many great things: new costumes, new emotes, new powers, size/body changing, power customization, the MA system, and our beloved Walk toggle. We have so many new toys that most of us are still trying to figure out what to do with it all!

2010 looks to be even more of the same. With the upcoming Mutant Booster Pack and Going Rogue, we'll have more costumes, powers, and concepts to play with than ever before!

And yet... This bounty of wealth poses a strange problem. As our cast of characters grows, the list of places within the game where such diverse characters could believeably meet and interact grows smaller. Of course, the obvious answer to this is Pocket D, but not every character (or RP) really belongs in a nightclub. It's loud, flashy, and chaotic, not really suited to a relaxed conversation at all. We endure it, of course, but the upsurge of RPers in Pocket D during the Winter Event is a solid sign that we'd like something different.

This is the main reason why I'd like to ask that the Ski Chalet be left open all year for now on. I have no idea how difficult it would be to do so, as I have no idea what code changes would need to be made. However, the relaxed setting of the ski area gives us a totally different neutral ground for RP, one that feels quite a bit different from the main areas of Pocket D.

I know that the time the Ski Chalet is accessable has been kept limited to make it feel more special, but there comes a point where it crosses from "special" to "frustrating". While many may not care, I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way when the Chalet goes away.

I can come up with a few non-RP reasons to leave it around as well. The entertainment of the ski slopes that can't be matched anywhere else in the game, and the ability to turn in leftover salvage like people can with the Halloween salvage are up there on the list. For me, however, the RP reason is the one that really matters.

That's my (hopefully) small request, and I hope you'll think about it. Thank you.

P.S.: Yes, I do play on Virtue. How could you tell?

    Ideas for events

Make a special AE arc, and stick a code or number in the final text. First team to get you that number wins.

They can't even start until you publish it, and nobody knows what they're about to walk into. Sounds like an event to me.
  3. Instead of having something tragic happen to him, you could have it happen to someone close to him. A friend, perhaps. He sees it, and realizes that the next time it could be him in that situation. So, he sets out to deal with it before that happens.

    And today's tip is this:

No matter how well you RP, someone WILL eventually disagree with you about if you're doing it "right" or not.

In RP, as in all other things, you can't please everybody. Try not to take it personally.

I was trying for honest and open. A bit out of his depth and making occasional mistakes, but willing to admit when he had and to ask for forgiveness. A paladin type, but one that doesn't have a stick stuck up someplace unmentionable.

Anyway, I've decided to keep the guy, and just make a small personal SG to throw him and a few others into. Maybe once he's grown in power I'll give RPing him a honest try again. Until then, at least the powersets are fun enough to merit taking him out for a spin every now and then

You hardly have to, I think we've all seen it.

When I make a female character, I usually turn the chest slider all the way down. As an experiment one day, I made a "trashy" remake of one of my female characters and took her into Pocket D. The bio was lamer (two dimensional would be a compliment), and the costume was a simpler version of the origional's. But the chest was bigger, and shown off more.

People that wouldn't talk to the origional were suddenly coming up and starting conversations with the knock-off. After a few runs I deleted her, but the experiment proved enlightening. And depressing.

    I'm NOT a dev!!!

If you were a Dev, a certan eyesore in Pocket D would be fixed by now.

    She's still ugly.

    Therefore: You're not a Dev.

    Seems simple to me.
  8. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

He's not a dark character at all, but I guess I can slowly move him in that direction a bit to explain him not talking to people as openly any more. Or, maybe I'll just shift him to a non-RP server.
  9. Let's take a look at comics for a moment, shall we?

Ever notice how some comics don't mesh up with others that are supposed to be set in the same universe? In X-Men, Magneto trashes New York and thousands die. In Spider Man, it's just another day of minor thugs robbing banks. Events are not consistant.

The same goes for power levels. One day, Dr Doom is so powerful that it takes someone like Squrrel Girl to take him down. But in another storyline, Luke Cage beats him up.

This kind of stuff happens all the time in comics, so it's only fitting that it happens all the time in CoX. Just treat it as each character being in their own book/team book, and having different writers. When there's a conflict, just deal with it with a handwave and a footnote (*in the now classic Statesman Adventures, Volume 4).

As an example, I have a character that I made years ago that had the Lost play a part in his background. When the Lost Cure was put into the game, it was a storyline that he HAD to do. I consider it cannon to that character that he's the one that created the first cure. However, he's also been teamed with other people as THEY do the arc, and I go along with it as if he'd not done it before and the other character is the one at the heart of the storyline. And when the team is done, it's back to my character having been the one. If there's ever a RP conflict, I usually keep any references to the arc kind of vague and roll with it, so the conflicts in the stories aren't big enough to matter.
  10. Has anyone else ever made what they think will be a good and fun character, and then had it totally bomb at any and all RP? I'm not talking about an overly strange or annoying character, either.

It's been happening with a character I made recently, and it's too the point that I'm finding it hard to imagine him bothering to talk to anyone any more. If he doesn't stick his foot in his mouth, normal conversations end when he's suddenly dismissed, insulted, or mocked.

I like the character and intend to keep playing him, but it got me to wondering if something like that has happened to anyone else. So I ask, have any of you ever made a solid character, only to have the RP Gods give them a swift kick in the squishy bits?

The parentheses have their place, but I can understand how a non-RPer would find it annoying to be talking casually within a non-RP team with one or two people who insist on saying everything in double parentheses. "Which one should I snipe first? The Behemoth Overlord or the Agony Mage?" "((The Agony Mage))" "((I agree. Agony Mage. He has less Health.))" "Oy."

If it's a decidedly non-RP group (like your average pick-up team), please, don't put "((" and "))" around everything you say. Other people will think you're being overly pretentious, and people who don't understand what they mean will only be confused, not impressed with your ability to roleplay. Me? I subscribe to the old "Local chat is for roleplay, Team and Supergroup channels are kinda-sorta, everything else most likely isn't" creed. Nobody on Global chat uses the parentheses, and for good reason; It's more oriented for players than their characters.

And please don't use them in private Tells; Just the fact that Tells are usually used for discreet, out-of-character conference should suggest that Tells are between players, not between characters...unless we're talking about telepathic communication or whispering to someone standing next to you, perhaps.

    Just my 2 rubles.
I just wanted to say that using the (( )) marks is a habit I've gotten into when typing, and I often don't even have to think about it before I do it. Even when I know everything's OOC, I sometimes forget and they slip in.

I don't do it to be annoying, honest.
  12. Okay, that was funny.

And yet, somehow depressing... A bit too real, I think.
  13. Title: Nevermore
    Arc ID: #352030
    Author: @Rabid Metroid

I hope I got it submitted correctly.
  14. To Please a Ghost
    by @Palador

    Arc ID: 299270
    Morality: Villainous
    # of Missions: 3
    Length: "Long"
    Level: 1-50

Description: Trapped in her wraith-like state, Ghost Widow finds herself unable to satisfy certan ... physical urges. Do you have what it takes to fulfill her desires?

Note: No custom enemies. No bosses unless your team size/settings will spawn them.
  15. Question 2: Given that one of two versions of Fly can be given to custom critters, would it be of any use to you for us to come up with a list of other "non-set" powers that we'd like to be able to tack onto our custom creations?

    Example: Lycanthropy.
  16. Question One: Can you think of any way to force a custom critter to appear at a level lower than the normal level range for a mission? (Or higher?)

Reason: I'm trying to make some "normal" people that can be killed by a villain, but they wind up taking several hits to defeat. I'd like to get them to appear at the lowest of levels, so they drop like you'd expect a normal person to.
  17. I was RPing in the D. Actually found a character that my Corruptor had some things in common with, which is pretty rare.
  18. I don't have time to read the whole thread, so forgive me if I'm only repeating things.

First of all, the walks look great! I've seen the Youtube video of a Female walking, so I tried Male and Huge. Very nice work!

I also noticed that it works in Studio B in the AE buildings. That was a surprise, though a nice one.

Finally, the tricks for drawing a weapon and keeping it out work even when the Walk toggle is engaged. When you stop, you drop into combat pose, but you walk normally when moving. I don't know if this is intended or not, but I kinda like it.
  19. I would like to add that Crey does do a lot of good things. Heroes tend to just deal with the bad side of Crey, but that's only part of the picture.

Shutting down Crey would cause huge problems for lots of people, both normals and metas. Crey makes high-end medical equipment, funds charities, and provides countless people with jobs. They're also willing to employ people and do business in Paragon City, despite the risks. Without Crey, Paragon would likely falter and die off.

There's also the fact that the Countess isn't just blindly grabbing for power. There's hints that she really does think that she's going to make the world a better place. Sure, the means she's willing to use are bad, but her end goal is to help people. ("Help" and "people" are as defined by her, naturally.) I could easily see some of the darker heroes out there siding with Crey.

Finally, Crey is a big organization. In any group that size, you WILL have people off doing their own thing without permission. It's entirely possible that the Countess has to step in and deal with things once a hero's involvement brings some dark corner of her company to light. Everyone thinks she was to blame, but really she's just defending her company from the fallout of a few people's stupidity.
  20. Believe it or not, there was once a Dr Who PnP RPG game out there, and it had some pretty good rules for time lords meeting themselves that appears to mostly match what the series does.

When a time crossover event happens, none of the Doctors involved remember it. Each goes through it in their own way, forming their own memories. Once it is over, the earlier versions all forget the event. The oldest/latest once, once it is all over, finally recalls all the memories from all the different viewpoints.

I can think of only one time that wouldn't be explained by this way of doing things. Sadly, that one time pretty much breaks it completely.
  21. That list is missing the [spoiler edit] a version of the Doctor seen near the end of the 6th Doctor's run.

Yes to both of these. It appears it came back even faster than expected!

They must have gotten its robot double or something, instead.
  23. Most of my villains might pet it for a minute, but there's no profit in killing the kitten.

Devouring Wolf might kill a random bystander and rip them up, then feed the meat to the kitten. Once it's full, he'd eat the kitten. (Layers of flavor!)
