But what if you want to add a time limit, and a consequence, to NOT stopping the ritual?
[/ QUOTE ]
Consequences for failing a mission!?!?!?! What do you think this is? -
You ignore premise #1, the RMT's are not going away. It's very clear that bannination holds no fear for them. It's just part of their business. I constantly have email from "empty" but that doesn't stop more from coming.
As to why the RMT's prefer email, my guess would be that they can reach multiple recipients with one email. It's easier and more efficient.
Why would they use tells if they couldn't use email? Well what do you expect them to do, exclaim "I am undone!" and go back to stitching soccer balls together for $.03 a day?
If we were given the option to turn email off, I suspect many would do it. Maybe I'm wrong, and only forumites care about this, I don't know. If their data indicated that this was affecting their sales they'd adapt. This would probably create a worst case scenario where they continued to blast spams and then would send tells. -
No, you fail to understand my point. I'm not advocating any reason for RMT to stay. They already have a reason to stay, $$$ and the players that give it to them. Lets start with a few givens that I believe are so clear we don't need to argue them:
1) The RMT's are not going away. There is money to be made here that makes it worth the effort they put in.
2) There is no cost effective way to stop them. If there was, the dev's would have implemented it.
Given these two premise, what is to be done? What I'm suggesting is that, since we know it's not going away, we find a way to minimize it's impact. So you find the vector that will be least disruptive to the players and make it the most attractive to the RMT's. I'd much rather have them fill up my inbox, where I never have to see the spam, then for them to spam me with tells, which are disruptive to my gameplay experience.
You offer no evidence that spam tells will get an account deleted any faster than spam emails, but your thinking seems to be that the RMT's can be choked off and they can be made to go away. Experience disagrees with you. The only way to make them go away is to get rid of l3wt and no one wants that. -
I am intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. As mentioned above, I've got a rad sonic. Are there any powers that you would need to see like TP etc? Could always futz with teh second build.
-
That breaks the honeypot. If the RMT's know that such a feature exist they will choose other vectors, such as broadcast or tells, to do their spamming. I'd rather have them confined to the email ghetto.

Judging from the responses so far in this thread, it's no wonder this country is heading down the road of bankruptcy within the next 25 years. So many people expecting free handouts and welfare like it's a birthright. I guess there's just no such thing as paying for services rendered anymore. Ah well, I guess I'll just continue following my own principles and not allow lowbies into my AE teams.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think I'm reading the same thread you're reading.
Mainly I see people who are as disgusted as I am at people trying to charge others for MA missions.
They should all be ashamed.

Anyone who doesn't realize that RMT spam drives more people away from the game than it brings RMTers in is an idiot.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? Do you think anyone has actually quit over RMT spam? -
I've got a rad/sonic, Missile Head, who'd love to get in on some Posi action.
Actually...I could use most of those. This is going tom make Wednesdays at work suck -
Yesterday I get on an MA pick up team in atlas. It's me on my big pimpin', purpled out farming build fire/kin, a mid level toon, and another 50 fire/kin, whose set bonuses don't look so great, with the star.
We pick up a lowbie who then says "I'm not going to pay for a team" and quits. This seems odd. Next thing I know I get a trade request from the leader. Hmmmm. Accept it and then immediately close it when I see he's offering nothing. I ask him if he's charging for MA runs. He explains to me that it's 1 mil a run, but it's totally worth it because you'll more than make up for it in tickets blah blah blah.
I had so many responses fighting to get out that all I could muster was a "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" in team chat and then quit the team. Needless to say, he was promptly lambasted in broadcast in the hope that no one else would be suckered into this.
Has anyone else seen anything like this? Who would pay for an MA run? At least in PI you had to have the foresight to get and hold the right missions, offer a sk, etc. There was at least some value add, although I'd still never pay for it.
Charging for MA, though? Thats just ridiculous. Trying to charge a level 50 with a vastly better build for an MA run? Priceless. -
Guys, guys, guys, I think there's a lot of misunderstanding going on here. I see the email system as working just as intended. It's a honeypot, nothing more. By giving the spammers a nice, reliable, low effort way of getting their message out there they keep them away from all the other, more disruptive spam vectors such as broadcast or tells.
That said, there's certainly much more they could do to stop this behavior, but the question is "do we want them to?"
It takes time, money and effort to stop this stuff, and those things are going to come from somewhere else. Would you rather have 3 abuse specialists or 3 developers? RMT's are really (at least as far as I can tell) nothing more than an annoyance. I don't think we've got enough people using them that they skew the economy, so give them the email system. -

Well the army has decided to send me to Korea, and I was wondering if I can stil play this game over there, I hope so
I know they launched the game in Korea but it failed
Also if I went to Europe I know they have their own game but could I still be on the same server/and toons I have now I would hate to have to start fresh

More like fed up with the self righteous anti farm crowd that was embolded to attack other players for a different playstyle than their's by a raving rant from a hot heaaded dev.

Hey, i generally agree with you. It's just that I think that this is an interesting question that rates it's own thread. The link you keep dropping is great for the "Farming: Roxx0r or Suxx0r?" debate, but this thread really isn't about that (although we seem to be turning it into a meta version of that) and would just be lost in the noise of that thread.
If one thread can handle all discussion of a broad topic, why don't we just make a bunch of AT mega-threads and get rid of those forums? -

Cry me a river Darth! 98% of the population is farming, and the 2% cry babies like yourself wanna spout off about your superior morality by saying "I play the game how it's supposed to be played."

you can't come to the market forums and say "cheaper". too many greedy people here for that and you'll just get flamed. trust me. (i agree wityh you though) everything is too high. i'll never spend those prices.
[/ QUOTE ]
Great, then you'll never get the purples, and your toon will never be as good as mine. I really don't care, because someone else will pay those prices. Neener neener neener!
Now that's an ebil response.
I'll let you in on a little secret, more of teh nefarious farmers doing their thing would drive that price down. With more farmers producing more supply, us ebil marketeers would be competing with one another, stabilizing the markets and driving the prices down. I do trade in purples, and I'll tell you, there's nothing I CAN do to bring prices down. The prices get driven up by BUYERS that are competing to make sure that they have the highest bid in on a rare item. I could put a Panacea proc up for 1 inf, and it would still probably sell for hundreds of millions. -

IIRC the bank farm (first mish from second contact) is the closest thing there is to the sewers redside.
Or you can go into AE and shout "PL MEH!" -
Well, playing an LOLEmpath is your first problem.
That said, some people have crazy load times, and I understand that they'd rather not have to endure the load ->lagfest in AP AE -> load. Not saying this applies in all cases, but there may be a fairly good reason that some aren't eager to hosp. I've had some teammates with such obscene load times that I'd ask them not to hosp.
The real question is "Who cares if the lvl 3 is dead?" He's equally useful either way, and will level rez in less time than it would take him to hosp if your team is any good. -
Not the forum police, chum, just someone with super-vegetative powers of observation. You've been posting this question almost once a day. People answered it the first time. I guess you wanted someone to do it for you or something, so you decided to keep asking. Not even sure why you'd want to create your very own farm mission when there are plenty of identical ones out there, but you seem dead set on it.
I'm all for farming, but if you can't figure out how to create a farm, even when told, you probably would benefit from learning how to play the game instead of farming. -
I've seen a lot of Kheldian n00bs lately. The worst is when they have the impression that this game is entirely linear, and that if you could roll a kheld , you certainly wouldn't be playing anything else. They'll then use this as their trump card when arguing incredibly stupid points. "Trust me when I tell you that enhancements aren't that important thanks to auto-sk. Afterall, one of us is playing an epic archetype and one of us isn't , so I think it's clear who knows what they're talking about"

You have to post the a same thread three times in a row while standing in front of a mirror at midnight.

. My horror story used to be a brute who just simply would not wait for the team when they needed to rest.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's funny my brute's horror story is a team that 1) wants to rest after every group 2) thinks that he cares whether they choose to follow him or not. I quot a team last night, because the leader seemed committed to just standing around long enough for my fury to drop after every group. If I got fed up and jumped into the next spawn, he would invariably go for a different one to show that he was "in charge". I didn't care (see #2) but his whining about it made me crazy.
That said, there is nothing I dread more than someone saying "I'm not getting xp" once you start a tf. When I was working on TF Commander with my main, it got so bad that I would only invite people that had to exemp down. At least if they were n00bs, we'd get it out of the way as soon as the TF started. I don't know how many times I'd have lowbies drop out of the tf halfway through a posi because they hit the level cap.
Another pet peeve of mine , which i saw a couple times on the ITF, is people that would "dc" on the first mission, and miraculously restore connectivity just in time to get a reward. -

There are a lot of very good missions to run in MA. The problem is that they tend to get buried behind hundreds of pages of farms and crap.
[/ QUOTE ]
You keep telling yourself that. No one would play the "good" mishs if they took all teh "crap" out, because without the "crap" no one would ever be in AE.
[/ QUOTE ]
This statement runs so amazingly opposite to my experiences, I don't even know what to say. Pretty much all of my SG mates who've given up on the architect have done so exactly because it's glutted with farms and there's not much 'real' content.

I'm not hostile to people doing whatever they think is fun, but the SFMA crowd need to realize that they're a small subculture like the RP'ers or the the hard-core farmers. Difference is, when you make "farming for dummies" possible, a big chunk of the community wants in. When you give them tools for expanded RP, <crickets>.
