Two crashes this week so far, and it's just Monday. >_>; Bummed that I finally get a Monday off and the server doesn't want to cooperate.
-
Server-wide mapservings and lag spikes keep cropping up, according to various global channels, help, and broadcast. Zones crash with alarming frequency. Two Hamidon raids have had to be cancelled this week. Right now, Grandville is completely inaccessible. Can't imagine what GR is going to do to the poor servers.
-
Locked doors for the sole purpose of slowing players down? Just no. That's bad design and doubly frustrating in a game of superheroes/villains who are already limited at every turn. No need for another half-baked contrivance just to cater to those who cannot stomach differing playstyles.
Besides, there are 'speed' runs that roll over everything at +2 and barely take 10-20 minutes longer than those that skip as much as possible at +0. You might as well be clamouring for Terra Volta-style gameplay for the whole game, or for inspirations to be removed. -
I'm seeing a worrying trend here. It seems like our devs at Paragon Studios are way understaffed and overworked. For so many issues now, the updates have had more potential than polish. Castle now seems to be on a drive to carry out retrospective QA and to micromanage all the deviations from original design PS's new hires have made -- apparently without understanding what things are like in game until they are pointed out to him by players (c.f. shield, LGTF Hamidon) -- while basic QA has been basically absent in spite of all the sweeping changes that have occurred.
GR is the obvious culprit for the crunch, and devs have invoked it as a reason why certain things end up on the backburner; but as GR gets closer and more GR-critical features such as ultra mode make it onto live, we find that they, too, have yet to receive the meticulous care some of us had been optimistic for.
What can we expect in GR? I know the bar is kind of low in this industry, and CoX/PS are doing comparatively well, but I think everyone, devs included, deserves better. -
As if players needed more disincentives to do these... Can we have a more elegant solution than this hammering on a six-year-old nail?

I believe GEST is Gigabyte's motherboard energy management software, so should be safe. Don't know why the entry is empty, but it's functional.

Quote:I had stencil shadows/medium water at first, and then once I started experiencing issues, I switched shadows off and changed water to low quality, which didn't seem to help much. I'm running at 1680x1050.Okay... from the information posted, you do have the most recent driver available for your platform.
So, now I need more information.- Are you running any Ultra Mode options in the client? I know you said you aren't, but, could you just make sure that everything is set to Stencil Shadows, Medium Water Quality, no reflections, no ambient occlusion?
- What resolution are you running the game mode in?
Now, your sound looping problem may be giving me a clue here. In the first post you said that the processor was a Core 2 Duo E8400. Now, off the top of my head, if you bought that new back in 2008, you probably have an Intel Chipset based motherboard.
Have you tried updating the drivers for the motherboard?
Will look at MB drivers when I get a chance. -
Applied the 5/04/2010 patch.
#2 issue still present. In fact, I just logged into the character selection screen, and Firefox decided to inform me of a completed download via a popup... which locked up the client. -
I'm posting this because the game client just dumped me into a blue screen of death in the middle of a raid. I'd like some help/advice on what I can do to keep this game playable.
My computer specs are as follows:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 at 3GHz
3GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT
Windows XP Pro SP3
Cable
I have ultra mode disabled. I updated to the latest drivers when I17 went live. I defragged my hard drives, and I turned off background processes.
Current issues:
1) Sound looping and silence. When I get on a team or a raid, sound effects often stop playing, leaving only certain looping sounds audible, such as from choking cloud or repel. Other times, sounds play but stutter and loop as if the client were about to crash, but a crash does not necessarily follow immediately.
2) More frequent crashing. The game hangs 100% of the time if I alt-tab out while in the character selection screen. It also crashes way more on average.
3) Much reduced performance. Large teams and raids turn the game into slideshows and CPU hogs. The game may hang temporarily as it uses up all processing power and disconnect me.
Ideas appreciated. -
We attempted to proceed despite all the obstacles. Unfortunately, only 20 or so people showed up. We tried anyway, and the result was...
Epic fail.
Better luck next time. =P -
I've been hearing about a new I17 bug that's making greens not lose their instant regen when they're held, which has effectively shut down all Hamidon raids (and LGTFs). It seems doubtful that it'll get fixed in time, but we'll see what happens. Given that we'd have to push through three blooms of green-healing on Hamidon anyway, one more layer may still be manageable.
-
At Sunday's second (regular) raid, we managed to spontaneously kill Hamidon through 50% and 25% blooms. Imagine if we had irradiated him beforehand. OM NOM NOM.
On the other hand, I17 seems to have made fallout victoms unselectable while they're being exploded. This probably won't be a problem, but just a heads-up. -
The point is not using Warburg nukes. FALLOUT!
-
Hmm, getting more fallout baits than fallout-ers... >.> Where is Smurphy?
-
Proposed time: Saturday, May 1st. 6PM Pacific (9PM Eastern).
Location: The Abyss
Like many people, I loved the spectacular sights that were Hamidon nuke raids. While awesome, those were time-consuming to prepare for. So after some discussion, an alternative approach was concocted.
Fallout raid.
The idea is to replicate stacks of tri-nukes with the power of blowing up fallen teammates repeatedly. Although fallout is not quite as powerful as the combination of chemical burn and nuclear blast, other radiation powers should more than make up for decreased potency. Shivans and Vanguard heavies are still encouraged for DPS.
We will try to kill Hamidon through all three blooms. >=) Twice if possible.
Raid format: We'll wanna shoot for a target of 21 rad corrs with fallout spread out into three nuclear teams. The eighth teammate on each team will be general assistance and fallout bait during nucleus assault.
We'll still need Hamidon taunters (hopefully our regulars will be available). Then we'll want a yellow team to hold yellow aggro. This'll be six brutes and support/backup.
Everything else still welcome to facilitate the raid.
After Hamidon spawns, the initial mitos will be cleared out as normal. When mitos are down, fallout baits will throw themselves around the taunter at the foot of Hamidon. Once they are down, everyone will gather around the fallen and summon pets. All AMs are fired off next and to be renewed whenever they're up. Enervating fields will be toggled on Hamidon. Yellow brutes will take their position at this point. Everyone will want to eat an EoE when the blooms start, and then we commence chaining fallout...
Sign up here if interested. -
Looks like a last-moment notice as we were gathering. A bit rough at the start, but we finished. Kudos for organizing it. =D

I think this thread is lacking some perspective.
It's incredibly baffling to me that people are casually talking about soft-capping non-def sets as if it were a no-brainer or a trivial task. For all the IOing I do, I have never managed to soft-cap a res-based character. I suspect this is also the case for the vast majority of IO users, and I cringe at the thought of the level of sacrifice, not to mention investment, one would have to make to get there.
I think it's relevant to consider the effects of stacking -def on these builds as well.
I'll list some of my characters IOed for def and my experience with them below. Negligible def positions/types are omitted.
-SS/WP brute: 32 S/L/F/C 30 E/N, 17 DDR
Excellent survivability against most enemies, but fairly susceptible to stacking -def. Archnemesis: hard-hitters with ranged -def.
-WP/EM tanker: 39 S/L/F/C 40 E/N, 21.6 DDR
Despite superior layered defences, this character faces higher expectations as a tanker than the brute and falls a little short. Generally faces the same hurdle as the brute. Archnemesis: Arachnos.
-Dark/dark tanker: 25 S/L 26 F/C 29 E/N, 0 DDR
The def is meant to supplement the character's defences. It helps her reduce incoming damage to a more manageable level, but crumbles rapidly against any -def. Archnemesis: Cimerorans.
-Elec/elec tanker: 27 S/L 19 F/C 23.9 E/N, 0 DDR
Similar to the dark/dark. Archnemesis: Arachnos toxic spiders.
-Stone/stone brute: (non-granite) 29 S/L 26.7 E/N 35.2 psi, 41.5 DDR
She doesn't last long, -def or no -def.
-Stone/stone brute: (granite) 35.7 S/L 35 F/C 34.4 E/N, 48.4 DDR
Defence debuffs add up quickly, especially in the case of Cimerorans, Longbow, PPD/Nictus, and Bobcat's minions. She generally has enough mitigation tools to prevent a crisis, but it still happens. I nicknamed her secondary paper armour for that reason.
-Stone/stone tanker: (non-granite) 37.8 S/L 41.1 E/N 46 psi, 51.9 DDR
Performs remarkably well. I generally avoid using this mode to fight enemies known for stacking -def.
-Stone/stone tanker: (granite) 45.2 S/L 40.8 F/C 47.7 E/N, 60.6 DDR
Worst offender of stacking -def that threatens this character would be Recluse. Multiple groups of Cimerorans can also pose a moderate threat (e.g. ITF towers).
-DB/SR brute: soft-capped to positions, 95% DDR
Defence debuffs have no noticeable effect whatsoever, with the exception of unresistable debuffs. The character dies most often to successive streaks or one-shot attacks with DoT.
-Night Widow: soft-capped to positions, 26.6 DDR
Extremely susceptible to stacking -def. With mind link, her def goes into the 50's, but a couple of gunshots and all that def starts evaporating fast. This happens with alarming regularity despite the character's low health.
While defence debuffing does not necessarily make defence useless, it can well start to feel that way when any gun-toting thug can hit you once and instantly nullify several of your def bonuses. In the case of enemies that inflict -def with every attack, defence alone is flimsy protection.

An additional issue with team teleport as a travel power is that it's prone to 'drop' teammates. The time it takes for someone to appear at porting destination depends on latency and how long it takes individual systems to render the new surroundings. Those that load slower than the team-teleporter can be left behind after a few bamfs.
It does have some unusual utility depending on your playstyle. -
Here are some general thoughts on traps from me, looking at your build:
1) I prefer web grenade over caltrops. Traps debuffs tend to scatter enemies, and caltrops make the problem worse. Web grenade is on a very fast recharge, so you can spam it and maybe put a Trap of the Hunter proc in it.
2) Slot acid mortar for accuracy and max recharge for best mileage. Its -def is already pretty potent, so you can get by without slotting that, and with tougher enemies, having two acid mortars out will help more. I frankenslotted acc/end/rech myself. Some people put a devastation hold proc, which is worth trying if you have the slots. Entropic Chaos proc in acid mortar will only heal the trap, not you.
3) Poison trap only needs 2-3 rechargers. Its hold is autohit, and it spawns a cloud/patch effect. Its hold duration is negligible.
4) Try to slot seeker drones for accuracy and max recharge; they're your other primary damage mitigator alongside FFG.
5) Trip mine is a pseudopet, so Force Feedback proc will unfortunately have zero effect.
6) Traps is not very demanding on endurance, as you recover plenty while animations are running. I have no experience with dual pistols, but with its relatively slow animation times and redraw, you probably won't need a Miracle unique. I'd still keep the Numina's for its regen to stack with triage beacon, funds permitting. -
Virtue's villain Hamidon raids are on Sundays 3PM PST and Tuesdays 5PM PST. Often these are double raids.
Virtue's hero Hamidon raids are on Mondays 4:30PM PST, Wednesdays 5PM PST, and Saturdays 3PM PST. These have a tendency to overfill more than an hour ahead of schedule. Usually these are double raids, with triple raids occasionally.
