  1. If you're still looking for characters to draw, I have a few favorites of mine to pick from that I'd certainly love artwork for.

    There's Frontrunner:

    Or there's Vox Populi:

    And then there's Enduring:

Either way, good luck and have fun with the sketching! I'll be keeping an eye on your work.
  2. 1. Do you consider yourself a roleplayer?
    Yes.

    2. Do you actively seek out the company of other roleplayers?
    Yes.

    3. Do you use specific language, symbols, or playstyles to define yourself as a roleplayer?
    Yes.

    Dark Mastery

Between Nightfall and Tentacles, the Dark Mastery set has some very respectable cone damage capabilities; something that you may be especially interested in due to Dark Melee's single target-heavy nature. You also get more of the -tohit, which pairs nicely with all the Defense you get from SR.

My only concern would be the frequent repositioning to maximize the cone attacks. That's a lot of jumping into/out of a fight. If that doesn't bother you then I think you'll enjoy the set.

You can either work the powers for damage (Soul Drain + Nightfall + TT = Yum), or use them to slot IOs that benefit the rest of your build. You could even have some fun and slot the Chance to Hold Proc from the Gravitational Anchor set and spam TT for some really nice crowd control.

I'm not a huge fan of Torrent personally, only because I don't like having to chase my prey down. Tentacles is one of the few immo powers that doesn't have -KB baked in to it, so it wont stop Torrent from flinging your nicely grouped mob to the four winds. If you like to go Hellion bowling or don't mind the KB (say, as an extra defense measure), then by all means, have fun with it.

My personal picks from the set, as a Dark/SR Scrapper would be: Pet. Gaze, Nightfall, Tenebrous Tentacles. Skipping Torrent unless you really do enjoy knockback (it's mag 10! Watch them fly!), and skipping Dark Blast simply because you generally have better single target options available to you. It's certainly not a bad power though, in my opinion.

    Post a Character

You'll need to first locate the screenshot and then upload it to an image hosting website, such as ImageShack or Photobucket.

Also: Thanks for the kind words, guys!
  5. There's a lot of instances of people contracting out other players to design their base; lots of us are hooked on building and have long since ran out of room in our own base.

Check out the "Help Wanted - Base Builders" thread for a lot of people who have already listed their services. You can get there by clicking here --> http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=122444

Don't forget to mention what kind of style you're interested in. Do you want a tech base? Sewer? Arcane? Volcano, perhaps? The more details you can provide the better.

    Dark Sux

    Quote:
No def... ...8 pbaoes toggles and no dmg,
There is Defense in Cloak of Darkness, plus it has a damage aura in Death Shroud.

Dark Armor can do some disgusting things with the right build, but it's certainly not a set for everyone. The end drain from the toggles isn't so bad; the big end draining fiend is Dark Regeneration, and that can be mitigated with End Redux or, even better, a +End proc from the Theft of Essence set. The first time you pop Dark Regen and gain endurance you'll be sold.

Throw some addition defense on top of everything else and the set really starts to shine. I will admit that I'm not overly impressed with Cloak of Fear, but the -tohit can stack nicely with the +Def from CoD.

Maybe it's not the most powerful armor set numbers wise, but it's a set that provides even levels of mitigation across the board, including to commonly unresisted types like Psi and Toxic, in addition to a phenomenal heal.

I just don't even know where to begin with that.
  7. First off, welcome back to CoH!

Virtue is the unofficial RP server, so if you've got a taste for roleplaying or just love fleshing out character concepts this is a good server to be on. It's also one of the busiest servers; it's usually the second most populated, but occasionally jumps to the #1 spot. Red side and Blue side are both relatively populated, and there's a very active Badge/TF/Raid community. There's also a lot of player run events, such as holiday events and costume contests.

If you like the idea of an active server with perhaps some RP on the side, Virtue just might be for you.

This is my character Enduring, the (now level 41) Empathy/Rad Defender.

If interested, there's more info about him on VirtueVerse: http://www.virtueverse.com/index.php/Enduring
  9. Here's a character that I've seen around, and always enjoyed very much:

His costume and bio are both extremely well done in my opinion.

    Functional bases

    TL;DR version:
I think any solo SG builder has a right to be proud of their achievement, but I don't think we have a right to be upset when we take on a load intended to be carried by up to 100+ players and it proves to be difficult.

    Full version:
I can appreciate the need to vent about something you might find frustrating, but if you're trying to grind prestige by doing things you don't enjoy then you may want to rethink your plans. There's no sense in making yourself unhappy while you turn what's supposed to be a way to have fun and relax into another job. It is 100% possible to have a base with all the amenities one could ask for with, yes, as little as one person earning prestige. Something for solo base builders to keep in mind is that you earn prestige doing the kinds of things you normally do: Playing alts, running missions, participating in raids/TFs etc. You don't have to spend a fortune and you don't have to change your play habits, and I say that from experience.

I started my base in June of last year and now have something very nice to show for it. I took advantage of a very kind offer from Fulmens to get my jump start and ran with it from there. I have two friends who also did the solo SG thing: One is now in the top 50 for Virtue after a few years of steady work, and the other broke in to the top 100 within a month of being formed. I have another friend that has been working longer than I have, and is still small. The difference between us all? The time we put in, in-game. One played it smart and turned 30 minutes a day into a fortune which was converted to prestige, while the other worked his butt off farming and now has a nice base and a stash of inf. waiting for him. Me? I did what I always did, and made sure SG mode was on. My last friend did the same, but doesn't have as much time to play as I do.

An SG is a convenience and a luxury; at best it makes reaching functions available elsewhere easier, at "worst" it's a place to decorate with virtual building blocks.

    Quote:
Well sh**, Superman had the fortress of solitude, Batman had the batcave, Why can't i have a little place of my own
You can, and from the sound of it, you do. You also understand now that it takes time and/or resources to build. You did, almost if not entirely single-handed something that a group of players was intended for. It takes influence and careful planning to make a single character capable of soloing content spawned for 8 players; why should it be any different for a Supergroup?

    RP spots?

I'm sure it's not always the case, but I think some RPers are jaded either by trolls or what they consider "questionable" RPers. That varies from person to person, but for a personal example: The other day I was hanging out near City Hall and a gentleman approached me, sent me and some of the people I was chatting with a tell asking if we'd be up for some RP, and after saying yes the whole lot of us were "caught in an explosion" from what amounted to a terrorist attack. On City Hall. In a zone full of heroes. By someone who was phase shifted and could not be seen/affected. To each their own I suppose, though it wasn't my cup of tea.

Anyway, I personally think that if you're in a public place, RPing in local, it serves as an open door to other RPers. They have a right to keep the RP private, but they shouldn't be surprised that they attracted company. Not much of a consolation prize, but I'd have totally RPed with you, Agonus.

With so many new and returning players maybe we should all keep in mind that the community is only as strong as we're willing to make it. A great first step is to get out there and RP. Another strong step in the right direction is to be welcoming / encouraging / respectful of fellow RPers.

    RP spots?

Time of day can also play a role in what sort of RPers you run in to. I've had a lot of good experiences with people in Atlas Park; generally the crowds that hang around/on City Hall specifically. I know that there's a group of people who occasionally RP in the Steel Canyon University. A lot of the best RP I've seen goes on either on teams, in AE missions, or in SG bases though, so one of the best things you can do is find an RP Supergroup. There are a lot of options, from celestial heroes to aliens, and the golden, silver, and modern age hero RP scene is very much alive.

One recommendation I have is to check out http://www.virtueverse.com for a large selection of players and groups with rich stories and backgrounds. It can be a fantastic springboard for finding an SG, too!
  13. Heya! I'm @The Wildcard

    - I've been playing CoH since June of '04

    - While I server hopped for a bit, Virtue has been my permanent home since '07

    - I dabble in a bit of everything, but my favorites are TFs, Base Building, RP, Lore, Costumes, and Character Builds

    New to Virtue

Welcome back to the game GammaRift! If you're interested in solo capability in addition to team skills you might find a fit in a Brute or Scrapper; both of those ATs are an excellent mix of damage and survivability. Most ATs can solo efficiently depending on the power sets, but you'd be hard pressed to make a Brute or Scrapper that couldn't, no matter the power sets that you pick.

Anyway, if you have questions don't hesitate to ask! There's lots of friendly people here on the Virtue boards and in other sections that will be happy to help any way they can. Hope you and your friend enjoy your stay!

    New Player

Welcome to City of Heroes and to Virtue, Dspektz. Check your sanity at the door; you wont be needing it here.

If you have questions or need advice, don't be afraid to ask. Hope you enjoy a nice, long stay!
  16. As for the "Shaking Effect", are there any Ionizing Grates located near the area that you're experiencing it? I've noticed that when zoning into the base, editing, or crafting/accessing storage near the grates it causes a screen shaking effect. It looks a lot like the shaking from Foot Stomp. You can see it in action if you drag one of the grates around in the editor. Is that similar to what you've seen?
  17. I had a problem like this quite some time ago. Several years, in fact. It happened specifically when attempting to add a great room. I had other folks attempt to add it and the same thing happened to them. I don't think the problem was ever resolved. Perhaps some kind of bug that needs to be petitioned or /bugged?
  18. That room is going to be truly a sight to behold. It' already clear that it'll be even better when seen in person, too. Excellent work as always, Stacker!
  19. That looks fantastic! Excellent work Train_Wreck!
  20. Thanks everyone, I appreciate it.
  21. A while back I started a little project with my heroes on Virtue: I wanted to see what kind of base I could whip up, solo. I had been considering it for a while, but it was thanks to Fulmens and his prestige matching that I finally decided the time was right. I built up a nice little nest egg and then spent the month of May bringing my plans from paper to game.

Huge thanks to the base building community, especially The Skippylabs, Turbo_Starr, Stacker, and Angry_Angel for inspiration and motivation. Thanks also to Ska and Ly for keeping me entertained while the prestige rolled in, and of course a HUGE thank you to Fulmens.

There's a lot to the base that screenshots don't capture well; details and rooms. An overhead shot also proved difficult due to the nature of the base. I'm always happy to show people around, if they're interested. You can find me at @The Wildcard in-game. Now, on with the images...

If you've been a resident of Paragon City for very long then chances are you've heard of the now defunct Red Line monorail system. It was severely damaged during the first Rikti War, and what remained of it was absorbed by the Yellow and Green lines.

While exploring one of the abandoned stations in Boomtown, the young heroine Firedust found a very interesting surprise beneath the rubble. With a bit of time (and a lot of cash) she has reclaimed this lost part of town. This is what other adventuresome travelers will find if they retrace her steps.

  22. Thank you, SuperYeesha! I'd be happy to show you around some time; I should be done pretty soon. I'll send you a PM and we can maybe arrange a tour swap.

The large fluorescent lights and hanging lamps stack on top of each other, similar to safes and desks only in reverse.

You can check out Stacker's very helpful video on the subject here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns8tS4bvqiw
  24. Part of the base I'm currently working on features a (supposedly) abandoned subway station complete with a sub car that's been partially buried in a tunnel collapse. The lighting has been brightened for the purpose of these screenshots - normally it's a very dark room.
