I'm still hoping Part 2 will in some way vindicate Part 1 and make the product as a whole seem more worthwhile.
I felt HBP was worse then hallows 1 because really i knew when they announced the split of the final book that the first half was really just set up for the action of the last half of the book. I expected it and accepted it.

However i was really looking forward to HBP because i wanted to see on film the voldemort back story. And they basicly ignored almost all of it in favor of teenie bopper love plots and when the movie ended it just didnt feel like it was in the right place to begin the final chapters.

Seems to me rather then just trying to keep finding ways to "Fix" the problem with yet another story that people are gonna complain about, i say just erase the last couple years and say they never happened.

Seriously just take the character back to what? I guess pre-civil war, and just tell all the writer to ignore completely anything after. and no more killing aunt may, revealing secret IDs, deals with the devil etc.

Alot of that problem though was that Sony took almost a week to actually admit that there was any theft of personal information. I wouldnt blame Sony either if someone hacked them and they stole stuff and such, IF sony reported the problems in a timely manner.

However in this case it honestly looks like sony was more worried about the theft of the games that was happening by way of this hack that gave them dev consoles then they were the security of those that intrusted credit cards and personal information to them. And that is there problem to pay for.

A couple weeks back someone hacked the email company for like chase bank, best buy and a few other large outfits. I had not even woken up to hear about it before i had emails explaining what was going on from chase and best buy. That is taking responsibility to your customers. Not just shutting your mouth and hoping no one notices.
  4. New Harry Potter trailer if anyone is intrested. Looks good, but also definately looks like they took some dramatic license to the final half of the book.

    Dr Who 23/04/11

I dont know if like me anyone watched both the BBC and BBCA versions, but the credits are different. In the opening in America there was this little back story narrated by Amy. It was like "When i was 10 i had an imaginary friend..." or something. That didnt air on the BBC version in the UK, or atleast not on the version i have.

Just thought it was intresting, like maybe were gonna see a push to get new veiwers in the americas and they are trying to give a bit of a backstory to series 5.

I do also. And though i am hyped about no 2 week delay this year, i dont recall seeing if there is any word yet on if the BBCA episodes will be the same lenght as the UK versions. I know they have been different in the past, for instance i was just watching The Big Bang last night and noticed that they cut out the part with the picture of the stars, and the story of the roman soldier etc. Not huge changes, but still i like seeing the full product so that might keep me finding other options to watch this season.
  9. I have stuck with it through the whole run. Though it was almost painfully(and i mean almost stargate universe) slow at the begining, really i think things picked up really well after the mid-season break and it definately finished IMO on a high note.

I hope ABC gives it atleast one more half season and puts it in a better timeslot, cause being on the same night as glee i think is probably hurting it. It might not be the same demographic, but it definately doesnt have the buzz to compete with glee for the undecided audience. I think they should consider friday night being that another superhero show will be leaving a vacancy.

Pretty sure the show is being produced by the same talents that did the UK versions of it so its understandable to mirror the storylines. The idea i think was to basicly take an idea that worked in the UK and make a version with american actors and city.

The problem with any cable network that niches itself to a certian demographic is that it eventually maxes out its audience base and has to find a way to expand it. SyFy is not alone in this. the TLC/Discovery channels are running shows like Kate Plus 8 or hoarders, or coupon clipping shows is a prime example. These stations originally started off as being nature and science related channels. History went from being history to shows like After Humans and such.

I dont mind so much that syfy is trying to broaden its base and draw ratings and revenues, if those alternate to its demo shows were raising money for a menu of decent scifi shows at other times. But it seems Syfy cant support more then one good show at a time, and the rest of its programing is terrible roger corman monster flicks.

You know when i was watching that episode the main thing i was thinking is how lucky eli could be. I mean he has crushed on chloe forever, and is in love with Gin, he could have nailed chloe without cheating on Gin, technically.

He's annoying, uninteresting and useless, and the fact they keep teasing us with his many deaths just annoys me further. I absolutely hate that character.
I disagree. I think he is a great character. And I think he is great specificly for the same reasons why you dislike him. Yes his is essentially a **** block for the doctor, however the character is the absolute perfect presentation of a dude that knows that he is the luckiest MFer on the planet for landing the chick he did, and constantly is having to handle those insecurities even though through all Amy's flirting she ends up with him anyway.

Oh and constantly tease us with his death? They KILLED him one time, brought him back and never that i recalled teased us again.

The initial world she goes to is a dance club that masks a brothel among other aspects of the owner's business (iirc, she also said guns, drugs, etc).

The character was obviously well off, given her stepfather's reaction to the mother's will and the home. It is highly likely that the character also went to a private school. That costume may be her actual school uniform (altered of course). The other girls outfits are much more sexualized.

I also don't see a lot of fuss being made over Blondie's costuming, given that that is Vanessa Hudgens (the girl from High School Musical series) and is essentially the same age as Ms. Browning.

Edit - I'm also finding it interesting that the discussion of Babydoll's costuming and implicit sexualization (nevermind that she doesn't really act sexualized in the fight scenes) takes precedence over the hyper violence that she and the rest of the girls engage in. That she's wearing an altered fuku is more important than perforating many many German zombies, destroying a bridge full of knights or the violence that the stepfather was either engaging in or about to engage in. I guess that's the weird American view that sex = TEH BAD!, but violence = acceptable. *shrug*
Its not a matter of sex being bad more then violence. Like my original comparison, i have had this problem with japanese animation stuff for a long time. Its like lets draw a girl that has big doe eyes, smooth features and if you looked at her face looks to be 12-13 years old, then put her in animation in a skirt up to her crotch, a v-neckdown to her belly button with DDs cleavage. Its an obvious attempt to walk a (IMO very dangerous) line between something being just outright sexy, but boardering on child porn.

Not sucker punch didnt go that far as animation does no, but they found an attractive female that might be 23 but seems to be able to play school girl/underage, and her costuming is again IMO directly attempting to have that animation/sailor moon or whatever look to it.

Im not saying sex is bad, im saying creating and mass marketing images that are intended to draw their sexual excited from the impression of a school girl image is bad. It i guess is a personal opinion yes, its the same things i took issues with a few months back when the girls from glee were in GQ. It wasnt the pictures themselves were explicted, or that the girls from the show werent old enough. If they just just been a standard maxium spread of the girls in underwear etc, i dont think the big whoop would have happened. But many of the shots were an attempt to play on the idea the girls were in a show playing highschoolers and attempted to portray those school girl images only in a much more sexualized manner. That i do have issues with.

I have to admit that as my daughter gets older and older this is begining to be a bigger problem for me also.... Or maybe its just as i get older and older my ideal "younger woman" gets older.....

But ya the idea of making something where the idea is "oh these girls ARE legal" but to make them look illegal (ya im looking at your japanese animation) is getting more and more tiresome. I mean IF i was to ask my wife to squeeze her extra 15 or so pounds into her old high school cheerleader uniform now 20 years later, i would think for some reason i would be thinking of doing a high school cheerleader, not a 37 year old woman PLAYING a highschool cheerleader.

So it kinda makes me wonder why if it isnt a part of the story that a 20+ year old needs to look like a 15 year old, then why do it? Oh ya to be true to the source material, which was basicly intended to attract people to a drawing of an underage looking sexualized image.

It kinda makes me laugh to think of that as the excuse also, i mean if the original xmen movie had "Stayed true" to the comics the movie would probably have been rejected even by fans when wolverine showed up on dayglow yellow spandex.
  17. Very much looking forward to potter. And by the looks of it many of the scenes i have waited to see are there, the fire storm in the room of requirement being one of them.

The new pirates movie im on the fence about. Yes the trailers look good, and look like they are attempting to get back to the strait out fun and adventure of the original and put an end to the depressing backstabbing that ruined the second and third. So i guess ill give it a chance.

Jackson doing the hobit is great, and i look forward to it just as much as i did the LOTR trilogy. However really putting out photos to hype it that basicly couldhave been taking on the set of fellowship of the ring is really just a big yawn. Wake me when we got some dragons or such.
  18. Im not saying she needs to be some American Gladiator reject and muscle bound, but this actress looks more like a model with thin features and fake breasts, then a woman that grew up in a Amazon world were woman are warriors, hunters, etc. I guess comic book realativity or not, my thought would be that wonderwoman would be more Xena, then Swimsuit model.

As for the color of the costume, found this image that someone recolored, i kinda like it better....

Especially a race that has no problem killing its own members and has been warring for 10,000 years.

Water is the least plausible excuse, IMO, to invade another planet. If they've got interplanetary travels capabilities, then they've got the ability to collect those comets.

A more plausible reason would be the collection of enzymes/chemicals/biologic material that they lack or is extremely rare. Or possibly a metal-type that is not found on their world, but is abundant here. Like say wanting to crack the planet to get the sweet, sweet iridium potentially hiding in the core or mantle.
First off i would have to assume with an automated (mostly) fighting force that perhaps its just easier to come to a planet and syphon off the water and fight for it, then doing some Michael bay-eque landing on a comet to get it there. Not to mention but if you have ever say taken a glass of snow and let it melt, the water content is alot lower then the original volume of frozen water. Additionally organic forms also have a certian amount of other minerals in them perhaps the salt water, which the movie said they were taking the oceans is more in line with what they needed then what they would get from a space bases source like a comet.

Just saying it wasnt wasnt the biggest plausible fault of the movie really.

What i loved about that line and perhaps its a side effect of being the last of your race that sex isnt high on your priority list, but the doctor got this blank look and it took him a few seconds to catch what Amy was talking about.

No official word on the overall plot and casting but it is a reboot.

Given how the Highlander universe is currently a bit messed up from some lousy movie sequels, this is a time when I would support a reboot for this franchise more then others.

    Current Highlander continuity is:

Original movie with retcon so that yes Connor kills Kurgan but it was not the final gathering, then comes the series, the comes Highlander 4: Endgame.

Highlander 2, Highlander 3 are ignored and Highlander 5: the Source was worse then Highlander 2.
As far as im concerned Highlander's continuity should have ended at the first film. Yes the series itself wasnt bad, but really should have been considered a prequel will all the series happening prior to the first movie and duncan being killed at the end so the first movie stood on its own. Then just forget everything that came after the movie.
  22. During the movie i was thinking, "you know this isnt nearly as bad as i thought it would be." Its definately an attempt to do something like a black hawk down meets alien invasion. They try to keep the action as much reality based as possible when dealing with aliens.

The movie kinda of lacks in what it tried. The first 20 minutes or so of the movie is really a set up trying to establish character backgrounds that were then mostly forgotten about.

I didnt have a problem with the water thing either. First off our planet is 70 percent water, so it makes sense to use that as a device for why they have come. My only real or big complaint was that at the end they basicly do what it seems every movie since star wars has done and basicly come up with their 2 meter exhaust port in the way of taking out a control ship that will then result in their forces going inactive blah blah... Been there done that.

I guess my main problem with this plot device is that why would an inteligent species not plan for the idea that at some point a drone might lose communication with the network and need to operate independently for a bit. You know set something like a "Continue to follow last orders recived" or "You control ship is toast, go find the next closest and take orders from it"

But no in all these movies now, its take down one big ship all the little ships are just gonna go dormant.....
  23. I knew what was going on. What was going on is i was having the same feelings about being the middle of an Amy/Amy sandwich just like Rory was.

They may be getting a deal in terms of what they are charged, but they are still charged and paying for their upstream bandwidth.

Hulu's upstream bandwidth is not constantly sitting in the pipes (like water sitting constantly in a line) unless the end-recipient requests it. And that end-recipient has already paid for that bandwidth.

If their network can't handle a person (or severals) data requests, it is not the fault of Hulu or the like. It is the fault of the ISP for overselling their capabilities.

The ISP is paid to deliver that product, regardless of the source, by the requestor. In this case, it is the person wanting to watch the show or see the website. If they cannot honor their committment to provide what is requested by the end-user, then it is neither the fault of the end-user nor the recipient of the request.

It is no different than someone wanting to make a long distance call. Would you have the phone company charge both the call maker as well as the call recipient?

There is no real "cost" that they need to suck up. Data transfer charges are something on the order of <$0.01 per gigabyte, iirc from an article I saw recently on Ars.
Ok, but every year more and more customers are expanding what they use internet for. A year or so ago, netflix was pretty much only streaming to computers now 360s, ps3s, wiis, new tvs, new bluray players have expanded that market well beyond what it was. Essentially i look at it like the ISPs were attempting to cover expanded costs of improving their networks to allow for these newer services by charging the service providers in some form. Since that was a no-go, they are left to either eat the costs of it themselves. (keep in mind for most ISPs they have a limited number of potenial customers based on their service areas and improvements to networks might not really translate into new customers), they can pass those costs along to their customers (something i think is unfavorable IMO), or they can put reasonable limits on the service being provided (which it appears att is doing). However i think its safe to say that the one thing they wont do is allow the cost of upgrading to limit the potenial earnings of their stockholders profit margins.

But really though my local ISP is being paid by me to "Deliver" the content i request from the web, as more and more thing go online, as my options to use the web more and more go up, that will eventually strain a network that wasnt intended or thought out to provide as much bandwidth as is now becoming the norm. Kinda like an LA freeway, 50 years ago when they were built no one expected the boom in cars and population that no clog them up on a daily basis. IMO this is happening now to the internet, and everyone that stands to profit from the internet is standing around looking at the other guy to flip the bill to fix the problem.
