  1. I voted by the criteria of repeat viewing, but want to point out that when it comes to a fail video, I'm not likely to watch it again if I think the fail is being faked. So that's part of my criteria, too.

    1. Water Bottle Jet Pack Fail
The other thing was just mean, not funny, and I definitely did not want to watch it again. The jet pack? I watched this like a billion times.

    2. Parking Fail
I now feel much better about my girlfriend's poor parking ability. She may park it crooked, but at least she can get in the space.

    3. Bullying The Bully
I don't really like voting for this one because I smell shenanigans, but based on the prescribed judging criteria, I have to. Not because I watched this one many times, but because I couldn't get through even one viewing of the watermelon thing.

    4. An Innocuous Toy
Looks like I'm going to be out voted on this but I thought the crunchy ho's thing was just stupid. The satan doll, on the other hand, I find hilarious.

    5. Pantomime Fail
Leroy's fifteen minutes are over. Plus it was scripted, which the Barney thing is clearly (I hope to god) not.

    6. The Sprinkler Rainbow Conspiracy
    Stupid rainbows.

    7. How not to deploy a Flash Bang!
Hilarious and worth repeat viewing. MMO kid is irritating and, again, I smell shenanigans.

    8. Worst Robbery In the History of Robbery Attempts
Were these in the same store? I didn't really like either one because they both seemed suspect to me. I'll vote for this one because it's slightly more amusing.
  2. 1. 8-Bit Trip
Too cool to vote against this round.

    2. The Mean Kitty Song
Wasn't wowed by this one, but I can't vote for the clown guys for anything, even to ridicule them. As much as they do deserve ridicule.

    3. Tight Pants/Body Rolls
This is too much WT* for one video.

    4. 4chan: The Music Video
I predict that at some point this video is going to square off against the muppets, and my heart will be rent asunder.

    5. Tay Zonday "Never Gonna Give You Up"
Two great memes that go great together.

    6. Little girl singing Zydrate Anatomy
I can't tell if this is sad or hilarious or both.

    7. Gimme dat bacon!
    Bacon bra!

    8. The Muppets: Bohemian Rhapsody
If it were up to me, we'd go ahead and declare this the winner for this category.

  4. 1. Kitten vs. Watermelon
    ... hilarity ensues.

    2. Kittens, inspired by Kittens!!!!
This one is just a trainwreck of cuteness. I am compelled to watch it over again, despite my brains oozing out of my ears every time I do.

    3. Gesundheit!
The momma panda sure agrees that this one has a high OMG factor.

    4. Pinky's Revenge
I think I liked the Corgi video better but Pinky deserves some props.

    5. Ninja Cat
Impossibly hard decision. Finally went with Ninja Cat on the basis that I watched it over again more times than the surprised kitty.

    6. Monkey Doo
I almost picked this one for my pick but didn't. I am glad someone else did. The sniff was funny. The fall was what makes it a winner.

    7. Dramatic Look Gopher
The other one is cute but the prairie dog is pure OMG.

    8. The Engineer's Guide to Cats
Kitten is cute but I'm over the lolspeak and the engineer is at least WT*-worthy.

I'm not so sure. I guess it depends on how and when it was all implemented. If Nintendo came out with a CD system at the same time or before the PS, then you're probably right. Developers would be more inclined to focus on the system that would get them the most sales, and that would be Nintendo, because it was the king. But going back to my point, I think if they were going to stick with CD's at that point, they would have stuck with their partner and the work that had already been done.

If the PS came out and was the big success that it was, and then Nintendo went to CD to compete with PS2, it might not be so simple. I don't think Square Enix is the be all, end all of the story and I think at that time there would be a split again among development dollars and jockeying for exclusive titles and so on. If Microsoft also got into the mix in this hypothetical version of history as it did in our real history, then who knows what would have happened?

So I think my opinion is that there is some validity to his points about how Sony got its foot in the door, but once that foot was in and the Playstation got established, I don't think their successes after that point can all be credited back to the failure of their competition.

In fact I think it is the foresight that Sony had in regards to emerging and far-reaching technologies that made them successful. CD's, DVD's, high storage capacities, USB, Blu-Ray (maybe a gamble backing their own horse but one that paid off), and now 3D. Bob mentions these but rather than giving Sony credit for being insightful, he says it was dumb luck.

Sure I think there was some luck involved, and some serendipitous timing, and some help from missteps on the part of Nintendo, but I think Sony also, by the way, built three really kick *** gaming consoles that deserve some freakin' credit. And I don't think the fact that they have some stiff competition now means they are going to fail, or that there really is any substantial indication right now to suggest that they are failing.

And wow, I totally didn't set out to lay out my own theory on all this. But there it is.

Disclaimer, btw, I'm not really a fanboy of any variety. I have all three current gen consoles and a gaming PC and I loves them all, like my childrens.

It's pretty much right - if Nintendo was going to stick with CD's then they wouldn't have scrapped that project, which was being developed through partnership with Sony. If that had happened, Sony would not have developed their own console. They had no interest in doing so.

I agree. I think we know all we need to know.
  9. Even if the author was unknown to me, here are some books I would have been compelled to read by title alone (and I have read them all, and everyone should):

    A Brief History of Time

A Short History of Nearly Everything

    Pale Blue Dot

The Math Gene (I admit to bias on this one)
  10. I think I will go ahead and lock mine in. Mostly because I can't be bothered to go track down anything better.

I dunno, did you actually watch this new episode? He doesn't give Nintendo any pity or offer any sugar coating of their really dumb mistakes of the previous two generations.

My understanding is that they all have a human brain in them, but only the mistresses have (almost) whole human bodies. (edit) but looking at the info text again, I'm not sure where I got that idea. Maybe I just thought that because the mistresses (and queens) were the only ones with exposed human bodies. Maybe the others have human bodies completely concealed by the suits.

  15. Ok for my final pick, in the category of awesomely bad music vidoes, I say to you:

I was nervous but happy when WotC took over. There was a bright time that lasted, oh I don't know, a few months or a year or something, between the buy out and the launch of 3rd edition. During that time they refined the scope of publishing, started actually getting product out on time, and focused on putting out adventures and source material rather than more rules tack-ons. It was a nice time for 2nd Edition.

And despite the mess that was 3.0 which necessitated 3.5, I really liked 3.5 as a system. I was not wild about the flavor of the artwork or the settings they started publishing, but that's all easy enough to adapt.

But that's the problem I've had with WotC in general since then. I don't like the flavor, meaning I don't like any of the source material they're putting out, and I don't like the rules expansions because they lean heavily away from the old medieval European flavor and are far more pure fantasy based. Which is fine if you like that, but for me, it's enough to have the core rules and use all the old 1st and 2nd edition source material I have.

I haven't been interested in 4e because I just don't think it was necessary, 3.5 is great, and because I unfortunately don't have time or a local group for tabletop gaming these days.

I'm probably going to end up using it on my 50's to direct buy Numina, Miracle, Luck and a handful of other globals and procs at minimum levels and then email them around to my various toons who need them. Those particular pieces tend to be ones that I want on almost every build so I think just buying one directly every day or two will be a nice convenience.

Lower level characters I may start doing the random rolls for five at a time and play the odds.
