True, its not always that expensive. I was speaking generally.
  2. I think the roommate ran into the same problem with his Win7 system and rather than try to make it work, he's just using the online planner available at the same site. I know its not a solution, but its another option until you get Mids working.

Not quite true unless combat attributes is misreading my recharge rate. My main Fire/Kin Corr is perma with 166.25% according to combat attributes and Mids (including Hasten obviously, heh). I get barely 2 seconds overlap with that recharge. EDIT: For some reason I missed the 3-slotting part. My Hasten is 4-slotted for that extra tiny bit you still get after ED.

As a side note to the OP. Slotting for perma-Hasten is by no means a cheap endeavor. That Fire/Kin Corr of mine is running around with a 2.5-3bil Inf build, and that's a conservative estimate. Also, slotting for that can take away from other parts of your build, like damage, endurance reduction and recovery as well as max HP and regen. The effects will vary of course, depending on what your build is and how you go about reaching perma, but you'll always lose out somewhere else.
  4. I'm not totally up on all the details of the current generation of graphics cards, but considering that yours is basically the mobile equivalent of my 5750 you should probably be able to run at least at recommended smoothly. Now, I can run full Ultra Mode (although I have to choose between FSAA and Ambient Occlusion because they don't play nice with each other on ATI cards) but when teaming I do run into some lag issues here and there and have to drop the settings down. You'll probably be in the same boat.

That said, if you want a definitive answer, you might want to ask on the Tech section of the forums. There's folks lurking there that are better equipped to fully answer your question, heh. By the way, are you looking at an Alienware m11x or so?

Once you have played this game for a few months, it is trivial to make a self-sufficient toon.
Not for everyone, lol. Not going to name names, but I've run into at least several people who have been playing longer than I have that still don't know the first thing about properly building a toon, for solo'ing or teaming. But by and large, yes it should be a simple matter.
  6. Name: The Brain Center for World Domination

    Motto: N/A

Leader(s): Radek Bahkara (@pyber) and Wraith Scimitar (@Saber Specter)

Player Type: Any and all are welcome.

RolePlay?: No, but we don't object to it if you do like to RP

    Membership levels: 1-50

SuperGroup Colours: Black and red (although it has been known to change)

Normal time of Gameplay: I'm on almost every evening (Pacific time zone), while the rest are more casual and intermittent.

Other information: We're not overly active anymore at this time, but I've been looking into bringing in some fresh blood and get things going again. We're part of the Dream Team/Villains of Victory coalition, and as such, we'd expect some participation in our twice-weekly Rikti Mothership Raids. The coalition spans both sides of the game, so wherever you may choose to play when you login, chances are there's something going on somewhere. The Brain Center base includes all the usual amenities (porters, medbay, storage & workshop) as well as some extra space for apartments for senior members. Promotions can be garnered either by earning Prestige or by simply being an active part of the VG. We don't require that you run in SG Mode unless you wish to, but hey, every Prestige point does move us closer to the top 100 list, hehe.

Recruiting?: Not actively recruiting, but if you want to join or just have a chat about the VG and/or the coalition, feel free to drop @pyber a line.

Website: No website of our own, but we do make use of the DT/VoV Guild Portal site, found here: http://dreamteam.guildportal.com/Gui...&TabID=2361602

Heh, well that is the intent. What you can't see behind the camera is the floors containing the control room and conference room, as well as various offices, labs and other "sets" inspired by Stargate Command from the TV series.

As for an effect inside the gate, the banner idea has been suggested by a coalie, but the various other projects in the base have been keeping me busy. Now though, I've completed 95% of those projects and I felt it was time to reassess the stargate design and get around to finishing the SGC as a whole.
  11. Okay, while I would absolutely love to use one of the existing large CoT portals for a stargate (the ones that spawn Demons when approached), I know that's not an option with our present editor. That said, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on building a stargate using the items that we do have. Off and on for the last 7-8 months I've been working on my Stargate Command room and lately I've been seriously thinking that there must be something better I could use to build the gate. Currently I've got this:

As you can see, the gate is very simply made using nothing more than floor safes and wall lights to represent the chevrons. So I'm wondering if there's something in particular that anyone who's had an idea like this themselves has used that would turn out better? I know I could use trial and error, and I very well may wind up doing so, but figured I'd toss the question out here first and see if I could save myself some time, aggravation and a whole lot of stacking and deleting, hehe.

EDIT: If it matters, the room this is in is a Trophy Room, so its limited pretty much to decorative items only.
  12. Well, I haven't poked my nose into this thread since Lord knows when and after perusing the work being done I have to say I'm impressed. Awesome work guys!

Oh, and Turbo, one of these days I'm going to have to bug you to let me have a look around, hehe.

I like when people get it.
Haha, yeah so do I. Generally I don't run into trouble playing a Kin like that, but there's always some shmuck that thinks that anything that isn't a Scrapper, Tank or Brute shouldn't be in melee range. I'm guessing they're of a similar breed to the folks that think being a Defender automatically means you should be a healer. More often than not when I run into such shmucks though, they quickly change their opinion when they see the kind of damage I can pump out when I'm at the damage cap 90% of the time, lol.

On topic though, I've rarely ever had the [bad] luck of winding up on a bad PuG or teamed with a generally stupid player. But there was this one time...

So I'm running some of the never-ending Marcus missions in Cimerora solo on my Kin/Sonic Defender and I pop out of my most recent mission to find someone broadcasting that they're forming a casual ITF team (ie, no speed run or anything). I think "hey, I've not done the ITF on this toon yet, so why not" and call back in broadcast that I'll join. I can't remember the exact team composition, but the pivotal characters in this tale are myself and a Stone tank. Since I didn't know this Stone tank and was curious as to the quality (build-wise) of what I'd be playing backpack to, I figured I'd have a look at his powers and set bonuses (if any). Sure enough, he seemed to be pretty well built and even had a couple of purple IO bonuses in there. The only thing that worried me was that he'd taken Hand Clap, but that part doesn't come in until the end of this tale.

This Stone tank was our lead tank, and in fact our only melee toon. Now, that in and of itself isn't a bad thing. But this tank had to be the most timid Stone tank I've ever seen! He kept on insisting that we wait while he would creep up to groups and hit them with taunt, then promptly run back to hide behind us. On some occasions he would flat-our refuse to herd up mobs or otherwise use his tank to aid in aggro control, and instead wait for me to jump in first (as I am sometimes wont to do, but that's another story, heh). Not once would he do the typical Stone tank thing and just charge right in. I can understand that you might not want to over-aggro or what-have-you, but considerations like that seemed to be the farthest from this tanks mind. He was straight up nothing more than a chicken and feared that being killed while on a Stone tank would reflect badly on him and that people wouldn't want his tank on their team. At least he wasn't using Hand Clap at all when we'd actually get a nice herd.

By the time we'd gotten to the last mission, most of the team had started wondering if the player behind this tank was really all that bright. Any suggestions on how to more effectively play the tank had been swiftly rebuffed ("I'm an XX month Vet, I know how to play my tank!") and when it finally comes time to hit the rooftops to deal with the remaining traitors (we'd jumped straight to Rommy, pulled him and flattened him quickly, tank or no tank) I finally break down in team chat and ask the tank to herd properly so that we can make the best use of our AoE's and finish the traitors off quickly. But nooooo. Instead, he insists on using Hurl to pull them in small groups. At this time the team leader decided that he'd also had enough and told the tank that we'd dealt with his timidity for the entire ITF but could he please do this one thing our way? Sure enough, he doesn't want to so the team lead asks me in a /tell if I could herd on the other roof since our tank is too chicken (my Kin/Sonic has about 71% S/L resist, so she's no puss, heh). So I quite happily pop on Repel (yeah, yeah, laugh at it, I took Repel and slotted it!) and proceed to charge around the rooftop, knocking Romans all over the place and then run back towards our group, who had by this time assembled again on the corner of this second rooftop, trailing pissed off Romans behind me well in excess of the aggro cap. I say something to the tank in team chat to the effect of "this is how you herd, lol" and that must have set him off. As soon as the herd starts to arrive and before we could paste them, what does he start doing? He wades right in and starts Hand Clapping for all he's worth, knocking my nice little herd to pieces and considering that the rest of the team had just started firing off their various immobs and AoE's we ended up with a bunch of Romans spread all over the roof, pinned in place by immobs and no more herd. So much for the quick AoE finish!
Maybe not as humorous a tale as some in this thread, but its the best I can recall ever running into on a PuG, heh. XD
  15. I tend to play a lot of Kins, especially /Kin Corrs (I have 5 on Guardian alone). I also don't tend to play them in a timid fashion. I'm in the middle of the herds, right beside the tank and doing my thing, because, you know, I like to get my own Fulcrum Shift from time to time. That said, what kills my buzz is when I'm doing this on a team and the leader (or other teammates) start berating me for not standing back with the rest of the squishies outside the herd. I've even been kicked from teams in the past for playing a Kin like this. I mean, come on folks. If I'm going to die, at least I'll go out with a damage-capped Inferno or something and take most of the mobs with me. And that's if I even die, because if I die it means that for some reason Transfusion is missing or for some reason I've taken it off of auto-fire.

That said, it is highly amusing at times to have someone on a team that wants SB or so to ask in team chat "Where's the frikken Kinetic?" and that teammate receiving a reply along the lines of "In here with the Tank!".

Ditto. I deal with it obviously, since I use the forums, but yeah I don't think it was the best idea. That said, I've never been phished for PlayNC games, but I've been receiving at least one Blizzard/Battle.net phishing email per day of late, starting about 3 weeks ago.

Oh yeah, but when you're on a team that doesn't have much in the way of Immobs (if any) that doesn't matter. But you'd think that with a couple of Tanks cross-taunting him and a Brute or two with punch-voke that he'd be taunted so much that the thought of going for a jog would be the farthest thing from his mind at the time, heh. But no, he still insists that he needs to get in his daily run like any good health nut no matter what, lol.

Not saying that it happens every time mind you, but often enough since the "run" coding was changed that it can be a nuisance.

Except for Rommie. That dolt still insists on running all the way to his front door and up into the hills whenever he feels the need to go for a jog, even when he's got multiple taunts stacked on him. I've had it happen often enough on ITF's that I've run that I just tell the team to sit back and wait for him to tire himself out and return. Its as good a time to rebuff, heal and recover End as any I suppose, heh.

Again, I'm not saying spines has high end cost, but I would also not say its extremely low either.
Yeah, all things considered I suppose the use of the word "extremely" may have been a bad choice on my part, heh. And I didn't say it was lower than Claws. Still, you have to admit that most of the powerset does have low Endurance costs attached to it. I'm not even really slotted with Endurance reduction and recovery in mind, but I can run 9 toggles at all times (including all WP toggles, SJ, Focused Accuracy, Quills, Sprint and Tough) while in combat and never run out of Endurance. To be able to do that without Stamina isn't something that many powerset combinations can claim, heh. In PvP its another story though. Due to the loss of a little recovery and the rather precariously balanced Endurance use, when entering RV for example, I wind up with a limited, if long, lifespan when it comes to available Endurance.
