  1. A merit in every mission! A chicken in every pot!

    Yeah, I'm done.

Nah, I prefer to come up with one-liners on the fly.
  3. Those screenshots remind me, this game needs better faces. And better hairstyles.
  4. Most of my characters are guys, I have some trouble coming up with female character concepts that I like. I'm male, so I guess when I think up 'power armoured fireman' or 'dark wizard astronaut' I automatically think male. 'Renegade catgirl space marine from Mars', on the other hand...

Really, is this the only MMO where the player community is remotely decent?
  6. And given that this game is built around many zones and most players spend time in instances, Broadcast really is the most inefficient way to find teams.

You'll have much better luck by, say, using the Search function to find players around your level who are on teams (greyed out names) and asking them if they have room.
  7. That and Pinnacle, the drunk server.
  8. Normally I wouldn't bother with something like this, but recently while randomly brainstorming I somehow came up with some ideas for a fully fleshed out powerset based on the Pulse Rifle attacks from the Robotics powerset. I really can't argue whether it's worth the dev time and effort, but I just want to share the ideas I had.

I'm using mainly Assault Rifle as a reference guide to this, since it's the blast set I'm mostly familiar with, and the powers are mostly based on sci-fi ray gun and laser beam cliches. Imagine the classic ray gun noises to go along with each attack.

    Main damage type: Energy
    Main secondary effect: Stun, Knockback

    Pulse Rifle powers:
1: Pulse Rifle Blast (see Robotics)
2: Pulse Rifle Burst (see above)
3: Pulse Ray (Small cone attack, Medium damage, fires a wide energy ray)
    4: Photon Grenade (see Robotics)
5: Stun Setting (does no damage but has a high chance to Stun)
6: Charge Beam (standard snipe, superior damage)
7: Beam Barrage (large cone, high damage, fires a lot of beams in quick succession, similar to Heavy Burst)
8: Energy Sapper (similar to the Malta weapon we all know and hate, does a lot of endurance drain, has a chance to stun)
9: Heavy Beam Cannon (Somewhere between the standard nuke and a Full Auto-style mininuke; fires a massive beam of energy in a long cone that does lots of damage, knockback and/or stun, costs maybe half your end bar)

The names and information are just ideas, but I did try to give it its own flavour despite being based on other sets. The Energy Sapper in particular I think would set it apart, but I'm not sure how balanced it would be. Constructive criticism and new ideas welcome.
  9. For the record I prefer Flight for my travel power.

I've never considered dropping Stamina with Consume, I generally use it to top off my end but don't rely on it by any means.

I usually use Burst, Slug and Buckshot for my single-target ranged attack chain. I know the latter is a cone but it's not that much of a cone, and they seem to come together pretty well.

I might drop M30 Grenade, it seems to do pretty poor damage for an AoE and I already have enough of those that need slots. I wanna keep Fire Sword, I like using it as a finisher, and I love Ignite on teams.

Just adding my preferences, but I'm gonna try Aid Self later.
  10. Help! My AR/Fire is 38 and after several respecs I still can't decide on what powers I want. I'm less troubled on the AR side, I dropped the snipe and got Bean Bag but dropped that too, but the real issue's on the Fire side.

Do I need both Fire Sword Circle and Combustion?

Both Hot Feet and Blazing Aura? And do I need Consume to keep them going?

Yes, I took both Ignite and Burn and find having basically the same power more readily available to be very handy.

And how would I go about making a solo-oriented second build?

    Help me people, please.
  11. Heck, I've got a nickname for my Shivan. (Dessie)

My Blaster is the real temp power collector though, going through Striga and Croatoa helps.

    Exactly.

    We should have more.

    MORE!

    MORE!!!
  13. When playing my namesake Kin/Rad Defender, I generally have to resort to every dirty trick and last measure to survive while solo. On teams, however, I've found that my scientist concept and collector tendencies have come in quite handy- I've noted at least once that I have lots of tricks up my sleeve.

Kin lacks a rez, but the university/hospital Day Job Accolade's rez power helped the team take down a particularly stubborn Mary Maccomber. I find myself using the Fortune power as much as I use Speed Boost and Increase Density, and I'm one of the few people crazy enough to make Self Destruct part of my regular strategy (usually combined with the Safeguard self-rez power). Of course, I love how this all fits my character concept of a resourceful, cunning scientist who can think outside the box both in the lab and on the battlefield. (and isn't afraid to get caught in some big explosions)

Also, it kinda makes me feel like Batman. What do you think?

If I am a member of a team that will not be mature enough to just play the game, I will finish the mission and politely dismiss myself from the group. There is nothing in the game or rules that forces me to accept an untolerable situation or be anything more/less than polite toward people. Do not get the idea I am suggesting Victorian type talk, I am just saying that being rude, talking trashy, being more interested in sex than play and the like are not fun for me and I won't take it long. Besides, my first thought, as a leader of a team is... suppose there is a child on the team! As an adult of 55 years with a grandson, I would like to think there are others out there that think of children first and guard them when observing bad public language. This the probably the biggest reason I got rid of Vent in my SG.
You seriously think kids are offended by swear words? Back in primary school I swore twice as much as I do now.

  19. For people to try to convince themselves they're not wasting their lives.
  20. The powers may be like many others in the game, but in a combination that you can't get in any other game.

VEATS are a mix of range, melee, defense, team buffs and pets that no other AT can easily get. They can use the same weapon for ranged and melee attacks, have built-in Leadership to make them welcome on any team, and can be built in many different ways. Their theme is to make them interesting, much how Kheldians are tied into the game lore to be something unique.

Besides, doesn't it make sense that you use your gun for gun attacks and your backpack for backpack attacks?

Support is vague deliberately, because there are many forms of support that a Defender can bring to a team.

They can buff their allies- to make them kill things faster with stronger and make accurate attacks and thus take less damage, or to decrease the attacks that hit, the damage they cause and the mez effects they come under.

They can debuff their enemies, causing them to do less damage, or die faster- and the faster enemies die, the less time they have to do damage, and the better your xp/minute ratio becomes.

Some can even mez enemies, which is why the Controller is as much a 'support' AT as the Defender.

And if all else fails they can heal the damage enemies deal, if the others live long enough to get healed.

The order in which I put those effects is not insignificant.

  23. Are there any good melee sets for debuffing? I'm thinking Dark Melee but I'm not sure.

    Costume Pieces

It says something about this game that people will go to much more effort to obtain fancy clothes and cosmetic accessories than they will to get the best loot.

That's one of the reasons I love it.
