No way - I have the book (and the original box) sitting right here next to me. It includes a random character generator. I just happen to have been cleaning up the basement recently and it is still sitting on my desk in the office.
  2. And it only took me 7 years to do it. I have finally dinged 50 not only on my 6th toon, but also on my first ever (and only) defender: Amyplify, a kin/sonic defender. Man she is an old toon too.
  3. Cripes, I forgot to mention the mythical Severe.

Heri, you made the list just cause. I was just trying to list everonye I could think of at the time that I actually know I played with. I've probably played with a lot of people via the guardian channel, just on alts and I didn't know enough to find out otherwise.
  4. Back when I started in I4 this board did a wonderful job of welcoming me to the game. I wasn't the best poster back when I was active on the boards, and an inherent shyness (surprising to some people, I know) kept me mostly quiet on the guardian channel, but it was always nice having y'all around to make me feel not quite so lonely.

Electrault, StarOmega, and Yetice it all started with you guys. Bradman, Vectrakess, and Lissandra were the best most faithful set of comrades a MMO player could wish want. Eighttball and Neut and their gang were fantastic allies. There were many many others over the years like La De Da, Mistress Noire, Herricane, Scotts, and man can that list go on forever.

But most of all I need to thank Fire Plus (Shove), Mental Maden, Tellania, Medistar, and Tet. I didn't exactly say goodbye when I took a 2 year hiatus on you guys. I cannot thank you enough for taking me back like nothing had happened and making me feel at home again.
  5. Nothing in my 3+ decades of gaming has captured my attention or given me as much enjoyment as playing the Dominator. (I'm not going to any answer questions about age.) Dev team, if you ever read this, thank you from the bottom of my heart. COH is a special game and for me dominators were the shining star.

Nothing rewards you quite like a dominator. When you were in the zone you were truely invulnerable. And not only that, your team was protected as well. True it was the hardest AT to play, especially in the early days, but nothing could compare to the highs you got from excelling with a good dom build. I hung out with a fire/thermal back in the day and his one quote summed it up the best "When you are around I almost never have to heal anyone".

Do you remember when Lord Recluse's strike force came out? I was on the 2nd and 3rd all dom teams that failed (maybe 1st and 2nd, I don't really recall anymore). But what I know for a fact: I was lead the first one that succeeded. Too bad it was after the lvl54->53 nerf. I remember proving with screenshots that you could beat the dreaded PTOD - it took three of us at the time. I remember when Shrike (or sherk or shreak or whateve his name was) first noticed perma-dom. I remember single handedly beating the PTOD after IOs came out. Those were the days. (Does anyone remember Bekkar's Triangles?) We've come a long way since then but this AT has been fun for me the entire time.

Hack-n-slash, Southern Comfort, Lilliaceae, that aussie who hung out with Lilli that I bumped heads with but who's name escapes me atm, and the countless others I won't try to name because I'm already embarassing myself, you have my gratitude.
  6. It has been fun. Thanks for all the cookies.
  7. Doms are my favorite AT too, nothing rewards you quite as much as when you are playing your dom well.
  8. You can give Wolfenstein Enemy Territory a shot. Free to play, fully fledged FPS, it should tax your system enough to demonstrate your problems. True it is an older game but a good FPS will eat up dead time by giving you more frames per second - which coincidentally is giving you more FPS.

http://www.splashdamage.com/node/57 for the download. And nooo, I gave up playing those games a long time ago so don't ask.

It is a shame - Minmin is far more entertaining when you are. I had a much snarkier opening comment for him. But in the few hours between me reading his post and me being able to reply people already were dog-piling and it just didn't seem sporting at that point.

There are all sorts of fun things you can do with power boost, but in practice the most effective was boosting your initial AOE control. 9 times out of 10 it is effective enough that you didn't have to rely on the other cool tricks. OTOH way back in the day when domination was a once or twice power per instance and before powers were fully slotted power boost felt far more useful. In this permadom/IO world (my doms in the teens have the STH slotted to the same levels my pre-IO doms did at 50) it does not feel nearly as useful. Contrast that with the effect that an increased base damage has upon say firey embrace and buildup.
  11. Last night I managed to score my _FIRST EVER_ stoppage of the clockwork building Paladin.

How gimp am I? 4.5 years? Wow.

  14. I guess it has been a while. Do you really eat an alpha from ice's sleep? I didn't think so but then I didn't keep it in my build for long and it was quite some time ago.

(I'm only continuing to gang up on Minmin because, well, I can. )

Powerboost is like buildup in one very important aspect - you can use it for single target stuff if you really want but it is going to better serve you with AOEs. Powerboost, tactics (also boosted IIRC), and your AOE holds make for a rather potent combination. You once could make mass confusion permanent with that combo + domination (although it wasn't very useful outside of trivia night). How useful that combo really is depends a lot on what you are playing, the particular room and encounter you are facing, and how stacked up you are against the purple patch.

(Well that was fun, enough of the dog-pile.)

But back to the OP. Honestly, IMO, you are better off rolling something as far away from a brute as you think you can. Why? Because anything that is close to a brute but isn't a brute is only going to feel like either a gimp or kid-sister sort of toon. You might play it to kill some time but odds are you will not have fun.

    So what's new?

    Thanks for the synopsis.

As always it will come down to straight damage of "just an attack" vs knockback control vs the knockup I get with levitate. While in the distant past I was always a proponent of the control offered by power push, it is a redundant choice for a mind/energy. I really have to choose between positioning ability (power push) or the ability to control w/o relocating (levitate) if I feel that I need either.

And with all other things being equal, I tend to choose the one that I think is the funniest at the time. Power boosted fully slotted levitate + rikti bosses = one helluva good time.

So were there any changes regarding IOs, set bonuses and other related stuff? As in does my old permadom build still work? You'd think I would try on my own.

... oh, and ice/dark corruptors still pwn us 10 ways from Sunday.

But apparently energy got gutted into something servicable, so I'll have to go and find another emo powerset to play. Sigh. I'll find something to complain about for sure.

I missed you too buddy. And wow! Unstoppable for a dom or do I need to pay more attention to Mids?

What other power has the potential to get you killed like the AoE immobs?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Fireball.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The difference between Fireball and the AoE immobs is 1]Area, 2] Fireball says "come over here and kill me", while the immobs say "stand right there and kill me immediately"

    [/ QUOTE ]

You only asked for a listing of other powers that get you killed like an aoe immob, you didn't explicitely enumerate the ways it gets you killed.

Probably our PPP targeted AOE blasts too if anyone ever took them.

And our snipe is a handy thing too, 'inform' the brute you are initiating an AV fight by entering the sniping pose is usually a sure fire face plant.

I've done this by accident a few times in the RSF when I was building Domination with it.

One of my SG's defenders says it helps keep the tanks on their toes. I just figure it is because he is carrying too many rez insps.

Fireball. Probably our PPP targeted AOE blasts too if anyone ever took them. Open with one of those bad boys and feel the pain. And our snipe is a handy thing too, 'inform' the brute you are initiating an AV fight by entering the sniping pose is usually a sure fire face plant. And with the perception radius on the rogue Vanguard, the movement keys seem to be enough of a death sentence.
  24. Didn't they decide plant's hold was a problem?
  25. Are you certain the dom model is the wrong one and the brute model shouldn't cost more?
