In addition to Ionic's comments, as far as I know, there are not many (if any) pure typed damage melee damage attacks. Getting 45% S/L is going to cover you on melee and most of ranged.

As nice as it would be to have every mob always hitting from melee, the reality is you are going to be getting hit by a fair amount of ranged attacks. People go for ranged defense on blasters and the like because it is relatively easy to make sure you are always at ranged (especially if you are a flier).

Fire has no inherent defense, so whatever you go for you will have to seriously slot for. In this case I think you'll maximize your potential by going S/L and a decent amount of E/N. My build is capped to S/L and 30.6% E/N. I'd like 32.5% E/N, but I'm a little too much of a damage ***** to give up what I need to get it.

Defense Debuff Resistance. SR and SD [built correctly] have high values for this which makes it far harder for their defense levels to be debuffed below the softcap.

Invuln sits at 50%, but typically has free buffer defense in large crowds due to Invincibility. This helps avoid cascading defense failure in large groups.

Not sure what this trick was. I just came back about a month and a half ago and this is my first 50 to play around with.

I think I'll give this another shot this weekend or next weekend (depending on when I have time) and hopefully take him down with the advice offered.
  4. Have to toss in another strong vote against merging the AT forums. There's way too much crossover in the roles for that to avoid confusion. For example, I would consider corrupter support, but you called it ranged damage.

AT forums are working fine, and you know what you get when you go to the forum.

I think blizzard tried something like this, but then had to re-add all the class forums again. I just think it would be a total mess.

An example would be posting in support "Which controller would be better for this?" and having a chunk of the forum bombard you with the merits of defenders. There's no need for the added confusion.

Didn't think of that. Didn't really need them for the rest of the tf, I'd just stock on purples and use ~50% of them through the mission.

I think I could do it if I did that, will have to try some time.

I only sit at 32.5% s/l and large groups of cimoreans rip through me pretty quickly when I'm the sole center of attention. Even with healing flames and mitigation from footstomp I find them to be a challenge at +0/8

How do you manage these groups?

Well, 45% S/L helps for a start. Granted the build I have is pretty expensive.

If the group was exceptionally large I'd have to use a purple. You're not gonna get through this without purples running 0% DDR. Most of the time I could just obliterate the minons before they got a shot off. I died sometimes to cascading defense failure, but I kind of expected that out of SS/FA.

Linea, thanks for the tips. Your thread on the scrapper forms was my inspiration.
  7. I'm sad to say I couldn't get Rommy down in the end. I feel like it's very possible I was doing something wrong, so just looking for some tips.

My main problem was the auto hit aoe essence. I could heal it fine by itself, but if Rommy got a hit in too, it started to go badly.

I should say, I was using oranges to try to reduce the damage, and that worked for a while, but with the healing I couldn't get him down before I ran out of oranges, at which point death was close by. I'd also drop a purple if Rommy debuffed me.

I've done a 3:00 pylon kill without pets and I feel like this is something I should be able to do. +0 was easy enough and after doing +4 I don't think +3 would be a problem either.

I tried my lore pets and it just made the healing essence go berserk.

Again perhaps I just suck, but if anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it.

My build: t4 ageless is used for endurance management. I realize I could work in a heavier healing build, but that wouldn't be too necessary for much else.

  8. I have never looked much at regen or KM (especially with regards to Power Siphons interaction with Concentrated Strike on a brute), but there are a couple generic things.

I'd substitute a Nucleolus Exposure for the crushing impact triples you used. Also, the build up proc in Tactics is a total waste.

    SS/Fire Build

If it's a farming build and you are looking for cheap, just put SO's in there.
  12. I'll third the scrapper notion. The brute will be capable for sure, but the scrapper pairs better with SD than a brute does. Don't have to worry about losing taunt aura on SD, at least.
  13. Prime313

    Max Speed ITF

I'm looking to see if there is enough interest in this. If there is we can discuss strategy later. I talked to Tomy and he is in.

There are ~15 minute ITF times out there without any concern for group makeup. I don't expect to get that right away, but I'd like to try a few time to see what we could do with a crafted team (hoping for sub 10 min).

What I'm looking for is 4-5 scrappers or brutes that are built to withstand and put out damage, and quickly. Additionally 2-3 controllers that bring debuffs to speed the AV killing. Kin wouldn't be bad either, but we would be spread out a lot, so fulcrum shift would be of marginal use. Radiation comes to mind as a strong choice here.

Since I want to go as fast as possible I think alpha level shift should be required, and the character should have a reasonable IO build (I don't expect purples everywhere or anything). Use of inspirations is fine with me if you use them to soft cap (I do, too). Essentially you should be able to withstand incoming damage or be sure of stealthing past it when we skip mobs. Obviously the more incarnate powers you have the better as far as getting as fast as possible.

For my part I will be bringing an SS/FA brute and Tomy has an Elec/SD scrapper.

My global is @Sauber if you want to talk to me there.
  14. I see that the ability to rapidly change morality annoys some people, although over time it would take the same amount. IE if you wanted to rapidly change villain, get the power pools and change back, you would still have to wait a similar amount of time.

Total time to go hero to villain back to hero is going to be roughly the same. It allows you one "burst" change. After the burst, you would have to wait 48 hours to do a "burst" change again. I can see from an immersion standpoint that this is not entirely desirable, but like I said, you aren't doing this every 24 hour period.

Anyway, none of that applies to the various conversions or the TF merit penalty, which is what I am most concerned with. Tips are already a chore.
  15. I'm sure this has been brought up before.

Is there a reason everything is on a 20 hour timer as opposed to resetting at a specific time during the day?

Resetting at a given time is a much better solution to capping someone to once per day. If you reset everything at say, midnight, then clearly people cannot do something more than once per day.

What you gain from this is people are not arbitrarily punished if they cannot play the game at similar times 2 days in a row. As it stands now, if one night you had to do something late, and the next day you could not play late, there go your tips/a-merit conversion/TF merit reset/whatever else.

I think it would allow a lot more freedom to play the game without bypassing the current once per day restriction. I realize the 20 hour as opposed to 24 hour was an attempt to deal with it, but let's face it, there are far more than 20 hours in a day.
  16. So I'm working on leveling a FM/WP scrapper. I don't have a budget limit on the build.

I'm not sure if I've missed any tricks here. My identified weaknesses with the build are accuracy is not great and endurance will be a problem in an extended fight.

Right now I have fast healing 6 slotted to get the energy/negative to 40% and there may be a better way to do it. Perhaps armageddon is not the best in FSC and I could use eradication. I do lose perma hasten doing that, but not by much, and I'm not sure that's a big deal. That would free up slots to get my accuracy higher on my single targets though. Is that a worth while tradeoff to make?

I think I've almost talked myself into it here.

  17. I'm not sure about the nerve choice in the Alpha. You'd have to pay me a lot of money before I'd agree anything other than Spiritual was the right choice for Willpower [recharge and more regen, what else can you ask for?]. I'd also go for 40% S/L/E/N and get t4 barrier ASAP. That should allow you more freedom in slotting your attacks.

Additionally, if you were to swap your slotting of Fast Healing and Health you would gain regen at no cost. Note that Fast Healing has a value of 75% base, compared to Healths 40%. If you are going to enhance the heal, it is preferable to do it to Fast Healing.

With enough recharge your starting attack is going to be nothing but a kin combat mule. I have a scrapper FM/WP build that I am working on that could be easily adapted to brute [swap incinerate and FSC], but it's eerily similar to PBaRmy's build, so I doubt it would add much useful. I used 6 piece numina to get the E/N defense and 5 slotted FCS with Armageddon. This did net me lower health, regen and recovery due to set bonuses and pulling the slots from health and stamina. There are other changes, but they are minor.

I assume fly would not be used for fighting, for the most part.

That being said I have never actually used hover and grounded at the same time. The wording is the same as burn though, and you can't lay down a burn patch if hover is on.

  23. I'm going to guess from this post that you do not have Mid's Hero Designer.

www.cohplanner.com Go get it there and make best friends. It will serve you very well.

To answer your other question, once you have unlocked the Villain power pools they do not lock again. You can be hero and still respec into any one you want. Note that if you are a hero, you have to go over to villain side before you can unlock them, if you have no done so already.

EDIT: misread your second question. As far as I know you get access to APP's regardless of alignment.

  25. There isn't really such a thing as too much recharge or crap endurance in an AE farm. You are going to be eating inspirations like mad and you can include blues in there to solve your endurance issues. Your sole focus in an AE farm is speed. You want your AOE attacks cooling down as fast as possible. Consume is going to max your end bar due to the number of mobs. Pop some blues, keep smashing. This isn't a practical play build.
