  1. Just came back from it. Lame plot and no one's gonna win any acting awards, but I don't care, it was still really good. Friggin' LOVED the fight scene with the Executioner thing, Claire and Alice both get a chance to be badass. Worth the price of admission on its own, that fight, very "boss beat during a QTE" moment. Like Ozzie, the total lack of explanation didn't bother me, I thought it kinda apt that nobody knew what the crap it was either.

I was not let down with a weak Wesker, he was suitably superhuman. Guess I'm not as tired of bullet-time as I figured.

I too laughed at the plane and the blood trail.

Also enjoyed the timely use of a piece of falling glass.

Was that explosion near the beginning not incredible? Especially the crater, nice touch.

In general, I place this second in the series in entertainment value, very closely behind the first. I don't even mind so much that it cost $3 more than it really should have. The end is a bit weak, and who was that supposed to be anyway? But I admit it, I'd watch part 5.
  2. Ninja should get the reverse of the Fir Bolg "hide". When you unsummon them, they turn into trees. Yes, even in a ship's hold.
  3. Ah, I see. Infected banners is why I installed blockers originally, I used to be of the opinion that the ads didn't bother me, and if they generated revenue for whatever site, that worked for me. Then I started getting crap from the ads (specifically, on icanhazcheesburger and allmovie), and other ads were ridiculously big java-heavy affairs, or just those idiotic auto-expanding things complete with a full movie.
  4. (Re: the Abrams tank up there) Uh-oh, which one. If it's the Blastr site I can rip the jpg and post it instead. I use Firefox with a lot of blockers on it so I kinda coast along.

Never had any trouble with DeviantArt myself before.
  5. That Mulan is incredible. Forget the bunk, I'll be in my sensory deprivation chamber for the foreseeable future.
  6. I did know that, having found it out with a misclick myself long ago, but it's really pretty academic to me. I always have to open up the enhancement tab first to see what I have in there anyway. Yes, even when I darn well know what I just bought, aside from drops, I want to see them first to make sure they're there, I'm paranoid.

The rare times when I just want to go to the enhancement screen for whatever reason, it's just a habit to do it the "long way".
  7. I can understand thematic complaints, plus those coming from a standpoint of making the game "too easy". The former would never bother me for any character, and I don't agree with the latter in the slightest, but I can certainly dig where you're coming from there.

What I don't get, at all, is the "Now we'll be short on slots" argument. Unless you're taking your three new free powers and slotting them, slotting will be exactly the same. There are quite a few powers which need no slotting whatsoever. Even if you have no need for them at all, take them, remove them from your power tray, carry on as usual. Even powers that "only" benefit if slotted can simply be taken then ignored, as they're freebies, and if you WERE going to take them you still would've had to allot slots for them anyway.

I mean, granted, I've seen at least one other poster who seemed to argue that every power ever taken needed at least three slots no matter what. I don't get it...OCD, feng shui, consistency, some idea that all powers must operate at 195% effectiveness even if it's not strictly necessary? Surely these are edge cases.
  8. Unofficially, anyway. (Yet.) Mulan and Belle are the best, imo, very Jedi and Swashbuckler looking respectively.

Note that someone in the comments says they got a virus from the DeviantArt page that has the originals, seems unlikely but haven't tested it myself. (Just got rid of some bad stuff in my PC so I'm a bit gun-shy.)
  9. Usually, characters that are dipping into the Leadership pool at all are planning to get at least two from it. (Heck, after the inherent Fitness, I'll be able to get 3 or all, but anyway.) I pick Assault first, then Tactics. It's "always kinda useful" vs. "occasionally very useful", and I can put the latter off for a couple of levels.
  10. I recall a particular Wyvern Boss who you were supposed to prevent from escaping. He was in a funnel-shaped room, at the bottom, with an elevator at the top. I was on my MM, level in the 20s. His first shot was an arrow that had immob, slow, and -fly. He then flew up to the elevator and I failed the mission within 3 seconds of giving the attack command.

I am rather wary of more missions such as that.
  11. Seeing it Sunday. Looking forward to it, I've dug all the Resident Evil movies, total guilty pleasures.
  12. Conceptual reasons here too. Lethal or smashing damage users who are Natural usually feel odd to me using the Sands of Mu, so they get the Axe instead, and it is really nice against those annoying ghosts. I'd guesstimate I've taken the Axe on 2/3 of my characters, I have a lot of those types.

All the vet attacks tend to begin leaving my main 3 power trays in the 30s anyway, as they wane in usefulness generally. On low-damage characters I might stick them in a detached 4th tray, just in case.
  13. Doesn't apply in this case obviously, but a successful Shadow Maul, the vet version, makes enemies run away every single time.

It's even worse on level 50 characters. Really? You have 20 INSPIRATIONS that weren't useful in a fight you just lost?
While true by and large, I feel the need to justify being occasionally dead with a full tray. Sometimes, not only does everything go sideways, it goes there in the space of a blink. Happened to me last night, the Brute went in, my Dominator self followed, and every enemy in the spawn decided I was by far the more dangerous target. In the red in one hit, dead 1/8th of a second later.

Naturally, assuming the above will happen, and therefore popping things pre-emptively, ensures nothing ever happens to you at all. Then the game picks that time to give you nothing for your trouble, so now you're out.

Maybe I'm behind on my sacrifices to RNG. Or it's sheep kind of god and I've been providing goats.
  15. Just wait 'til they find out about the gamers from *******, GA.

(Alan *******, known for Nightcrawler as well as other roles, is not from there, for the record.)
  16. I have many more females than males. Of the 35ish characters I have, 4 are male, highest level of those being 20. I am male.

Females just look better. No, not in the "I'm checking out her butt" way, they just have better style. Also, female characters are underrepresented in games in general, especially kickass ones. Damsels in distress irritate the crap out of me, I want to see some beating the crap out of anyone foolish enough to think grabbing the upper arm is all it takes.
  17. I really really dislike the sounds of both Sonic and Electric blasts. Elec Armor and Melee, the thunder and lightning in Storm, and Electric Control are all fine, but those blasts sound more like static to me, a sound I never have cared for. And Sonic sounds just make me wince.

The in-game music, imo, ranges from "eh" to very good, but I agree that it's a bit too discreet. I'm one of those nutty folk who like a constant overworld theme in their RPGing. And outside radio just distracts me, so I'm kinda stuck.

This could be my post too. I have two alien characters, friendly rivals with a nice backstory and everything, who I rolled as Kheldians because it just seemed to fit so well. Too bad I just cannot stand playing Kheldians, they feel so middle-ground at everything and good at nothing. I hear tell at high levels they really bloom, but the very idea of climbing that mountain just makes me want to play something else. And the names are totally alien, heh, so it's not like I'm squatting on anything somebody else would want. So they sit.

Before GR hit, a Tanker character would also fit well, but I can reroll her as a good-aligned Brute with no issue now. I utterly suck at tanking.

The current naming system is fine. Every workaround ever posited in topics like this has only succeeded in being spectacularly clunky and ugly.

I still say the Brute anthem would be Superbeast by Rob Zombie.

I'll answer in general better after work, gotta think on it.
  21. War Witch is my favorite. Pocket D version.

As far as looks go, it's Foreshadow all the way. That guy has one of the best costumes I've ever seen in ANY game. Not a lot of personality though.
  22. Primal

    Fatalities

I actually would be 100% behind any Fatality suggestions.

Except the engine isn't designed for it, they don't really fit with this game's overall feel, and they fly swoopingly into the face of a great many characters and indeed much of the genre. And did I mention the engine isn't designed for it? Even engines that ARE, like Age of Conan's, have to sacrifice a bit to get them to work.

So I'm only 99% behind the idea. I am totally an anomaly though, so it ain't gonna happen and frankly I'm okay with that.
  23. Stories that end like that have always been incredibly polarizing, Sam. As to why they're made, well, several reasons, ranging from "because they wanted to be all edgy and hip", to actual nihilism, that nothing has meaning anyway.

I like stories with such endings, as long as it follows from the narrative. It's a bad situation from the beginning, and it won't end well either. See The Departed. Sometimes there really is no way out alive, or at least unscathed. However if it's too obvious that the bad ending was just for the sake of having a bad ending, then the impact fails and the story suffers. For examples of that just pick any horror movie that has sequels and it'll probably fit.

Yes, "cheering on" can also mean I understand when they die anyway, because of or despite.

Both sides are extremists. They both have the attitude of "You're either with us or against us." Known sympathizers on both sides are mistrusted, and certainly wouldn't be given any important missions, or really associated with at all. It's Facism. I agree that this hard-line approach doesn't work well in all situations, even the ones presented by the game, nor is it accomodating to a lot of character concepts, but that is the path they've chosen.

It doesn't bother me, I either make characters with moralities that fit or that have no strong morality at all. You can also take the "I did what I had to do, but I'm troubled by it" path. Or ignore it all of course and just do whatever because it's xp, heh. Personally I made several characters specifically with Praetoria in mind, and for the ones with a morality that doesn't fit in Praetoria, I roll them on the other sides.

More to the point regarding this particular mission, I'm glad it's done like it is. A compromising solution would weaken the impact. Ye gods I hate how many missions posit knocking someone out or scaring them as a permanent solution to whatever problem they've caused. It's too easy a handwave.
  25. I only use Ninja Run as my sole travel power on characters who get Hide or other types of Stealth. Travel powers for me are as much about the ability to cross troublesome areas as they are about speed, getting pot-shotted by something on the street runs the gamut from insulting to deadly, and none of it is desireable. If I want to street sweep, I'll do it on my terms.

That said, with the incoming newly granted ability to pick more powers besides Fitness, I'll be picking up Stealth on more characters, since it's occasionally useful or just cool, and in turn deciding to use Ninja Run too. My Katana/SR comes immediately to mind, with her very tight build easing considerably, and Stealth makes a lot of sense for her. Of course other characters will always be flyers or jumpers, or just aren't ninja-y.
