as dm/shield it should be ok. powerforge flies and he solo'd lord recluse redside as a dm/shield scrapper with flight - he was hovering for the duration.

i dont think footstomp works while hovering. my sm/wp used to be a teleporter because i prefer teleport as a movement power but fault and tremor wont fire for the few seconds she's in the air

    /e blush

I was just gonna post and say it's the route I went and love it as a scrapper. Don't see why it would be any different for a Brutish type.

Has anyone soloed AVs with DM/WP?

I soloed Chimera with no temps/no insps.
I had to use reds against Shadowhunter.
I couldn't get past Nightstar and Siege and that's where I stopped.

I also did not have Soul Drain or Hasten in my build then.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Then it's time to go back and try again!

Your chances will go way up I'd say. No idea if it's been done. I don't recall anyone posting about it myself.

    First solo AV!

Is Shadowhunter possible to solo as an AV? I gave him a shot once before I had to log, and it seems he heals to full health every time he gets to 3/4 health or so.

    [/ QUOTE ]

He only does that one time I believe. The power is similar to Dull Pain I think and might actually raise his HP total. In any event it does increase his regen while it's up. Just keep fighting him.

    First solo AV!

Hey! Infernal is no slouch either! Great work, you should be able to get a bunch if you got him.
  6. My personal experience is that it is not that common in game.

I've had several different occasions where the topic was brought up and people on my team laughed it off. Acting like such a thing was impossible.

One instance that comes to mind. Before MArc I was trying to assemble a team just to get me started on the STF. I wanted to try to solo some of the less common AVs in the game. I had a friend of mine filling who also started inviting people. She brought along a friend of hers. Well, this guy plainly thought I wa an idiot for even attempting this. His comments in team chat were pretty derisive. In the end we had all the team mates gathered in IP except him when he drops team. I sent him a tell asking what was up and his response was that he "didn't want to go to IP and waste his time".

Another time was much more enjoyable. I had put together a team to try the ITF AVs. Once I had it started I thanked everyone and they all dropped team except one guy. He also obviously thought what I was trying was impossible but he wanted to come along if it was ok with me. I told him it was fine and the end result was he watched me solo Rom and I made a friend.

I think the boards have a slightly more experienced demographic.

I want to create a new toon, but I'm not sure what. I want a build that can easily take nearly any AV without any trouble, a bit of AoE, and good DPS.

    Suggestions Please?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Fire/SR will work great for you I think. If you really want to tear up the most AVs you'll want Aid Self in the build I think.

If you want the absolute most AVs down possible go DM/SD or /SR but, of course, you're AoE will be less.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Fire melee has the best secondary effect, extra damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Couldn't agree more!
  9. Hi MrCaptainMan!

Your question really can't be answered for all AT, or even all powersets withing the same AT. It just depends on what the player brings to the fight I'm afraid.

I find most Praetorians pretty easy with the exception of Diabolique and Dominatrix. Neither of which are very dangerous, just hard to put down.

The second is an "Only Affecting Self" attack that just has you standing there. Once again you just have to wait that out or use a Break Free.

    [/ QUOTE ]

the power you are talking about is Black Hole. It is a intangible power so I don't think a Break Free will work against it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh yeah, you're roght Prey. Don't know why I didn't remember that.
  11. I believe she has three attacks that will hit through PB

The first is her fear. No way around that except inspirations for /SR or just toughing it out and waiting for it to end.

The second is an "Only Affecting Self" attack that just has you standing there. Once again you just have to wait that out or use a Break Free.

AAAannd finally the death hold "Soulstorm". If that lands you're done unless you somehow have a good deal more HP than most /SR scrappers.

In short she's really tough. It's a good bit easier if you're /SD but you CAN do it.
  12. You'll do great! Don't let the lack of a high crit attack bug you at all. Fire EXCELS at damage output. You won't miss it at all I don't think.

I think an interesting interpretation of a Sonic armor set would be a +res set similar to */regen in its application. Have 3 toggles to provide a decent baseline (s/l and f/c/n/e shields plus a mez toggle), 3-4 click powers that all increase resistance for a short time but are differentiated by their duration and secondary effect (one is +hp, another +def, another an AoE -res, etc.), and then fill the rest with passive powers to balance everything out. It'd be an interesting play style at least.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It sure would! I think that's brilliant actually.

I'd like the theme to actually be Psionic though. Armor that would appear around you like a talsorian type hologram. I suppose sonic would be just as good really. I just like the idea of psionic armor personally. Hell, while you're brainstorming gimme Psionic melee too!

Either way it would be very cool. Great idea for the implementation too.
  14. Pretty much any primary is a strong primary so DB/ BS/ Kat/ will all work well for you.

/WP is also strong through all levels and mates well with any primary but it does excel with Kat/ or BS/ at very high end play because you can softcap to all but ranged smashing. It's also VERY recommended for new scrappers because it's pretty easy to play and also has Quick Recovery. Combined with Stamina pretty much any endurance woes you might suffer are history!

/SD on the other hand is a real mixed bag for new scrappers.

At high end gameplay with a bit of cash poured into it, well, it's awesome. Leveling you may find yourself frustrated. Don't get me wrong, it's a very fun set and performs well enough but you will want to approach with a bit more caution.

Thing is, with concept in mind. I like /SD for what you're doing. Scraps of Time would just have one more big customizable piece to bring his theme out. A tech sword would look even cooler with a fancy tech shield glowing on your off hand! So many awesome looks you could do!

What puts up the most single target damage, and what's the most survivable?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Six scrappers. Still far and away the best pets defenders get. Usually not quite as smart as the AI, but that's why defenders have that "team chat" command option.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Lol
  17. Use MArc to create a mission with two or three AVs to defeat at once. Hold aggro on all of them through the duration of the fight.

In what way did you end up improving DDR? If you don't mind me asking.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I presume HOs in active defence.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's correct and also stacking Active Defense which I could have always done to a small degree but I never thought to do.

How would you fare against Mynx and Liberty? on each St October and Excelerate? should have about the same difficulty as the Mantis/Mako combo

    [/ QUOTE ]

Mynx was very hard with Ex. I needed yellows to get through her repeated Eluding. I don't think it would be possible for Ex to complete her with any other AV. As for Liberty. She has 50% lethal resistance I believe. Ex can't touch her.

Now Saint? I don't know. That seems possible but it's tough for me to gauge. When I fought Mynx with Saint it was before I knew you could enhance /SD DDR and I also wasn't trying to double stack Active Defense then either. Add to that I put Bobcats minions in the mission (I think they can debuff defense also), and she was really tough for me at the time. I got through it though. It would be a different story now, since Saint's DDR is considerably improved. Not really sure how they would play off of each other. I may give that team a try in the next few day.

    Multiple AVs

Here's a few videos of some fights I picked.

I tried to make it pretty hard on myself in each case. The goal was to load a variety of villains and try to include a defense debuffer just to make it a pita I guess.

    First up!

    Nemesis,Hro'dtohz, and Babbage.
This is the same mission I built for Excelerate awhile back. No real difficulties here. Got them first try but I may have been lucky.

Chimera, Battle Maiden, and Mother Mayhem.
I definitely got off easy here as Chimers decides to shoot the entire fight I believe. Battle Maiden still hits like a truck though.

    Infernal, Shadowhunter, and Neuron.
Great fight. Just fun all around. Infernal still scares me.

    Silver Mantis and Mako.
Now it's getting serious. Two heavy melee hitters. Many, many attempts here. Initially I had also added Barracuda to the mix but after dying over and over I dropped her. I did have one attempt where I had Mantis down but was killed shortly after. Her debuffs get the better of me occasionally. I can't keep Active defense stacked permanently with my build so there are times where she can peel off close to 15% of my defense with one hit. It's just a trade off in my build that I felt was ok, and generally it is. Builds are about compromises, /SD more than other secondaries I've played simply because it can offer so much to begin with.

There is one crazy moment at about 3:10 seconds in where I just could not believe I pulled through.

    Scirocco and Black Scorpion.
Very interesting experience with this one. Black Scorpion has Rage on a fast timer. It is, however, interruptible. Whenever I have fought him in the past that means a non stop stream of attack to prevent him from wiping the floor with me. I tried over and over here. Probably 20 times. Then in frustration I just thought, "OK, let's just kill Scirocco and get that blinding, defense destroying sand gone. Strangely enough Black Scorpion did NOT rage the entire fight until Scirocco was down! I would speculate that it's somehow tied to his AI that if he's not being actively engaged he won't do it. This was still quite a tough battle though.

    Thanks for looking.

  23. [ QUOTE ]
I was thinking solo, sustained DPS... specifically against archvillains and higher. In particular, I was wondering if it's possible to actually outdamage a Giant Monster's regen without debuffs, or failing that, who can take out AVs the fastest.

I know debuffs help a lot, but I was looking mainly at the pure damage ATS and they don't get many. It looks like Fire/Shield and DM/Shield are strong contenders since they can keep a crowd of minions around them to buff their damage (and survive all that aggro). I wonder how a high-recharge Stone/Shield or Fire/Shield Brute compares to the Scrapper once you figure in Fury?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I like Fire/Shield for highest sustained DPS then. DM Eventually kills off it's buffbots but it does get a self heal that's a good damage dealer. It's a trade off really. If you go with Fire/Shields you will need to rely on your native regen to heal from an AVs attacks or try to fit Aid Self in there somewhere. Aid Self is pretty hard on DPS but, hey, if it's all you got then you use it. DM on the other hand just closes it's eyes, hangs on and keeps right on fighting. Hoping Siphon Life will pull it out of the hole. Which it usually does.
