Heh.
Soooo, X2 weekend saw this guy all the way to 49.
I never really felt happy with his look. I do like it, just not for this character. It's most likely due to the fact that I have a lot of Power suit guys and they all remind me of each other.
So, I decided to explore another look. I don't often go for tights. Nothing wrong with them, I just enjoy the visual excitement I feel comes from the more complex options. I do that pretty much every time though so I thought, "wth let's try tights".
Goals were still pretty much the same, looking for that asymmetrical look. Having a character that leaks radiation really begs for a snazzy aura too. Often I think auras take away from a strong costume design though. They cover things up. It's so tempting to want to use every option available. Most of the time if I use an aura at all it's pretty subdued. This time I really wanted to make the aura a major part of the design. You guys know who Sunspot is?
I've always really liked that. It relies very heavily on the aura to make it work though. It's the epitome of a simple design. There's nothing there. In the end I added a tad of color. The fire pattern to represent his primary and a Rad symbol for his secondary. The aura only covers his hands and head to keep that off balance look I like. The glowing eyes are a nice touch as there is no color at all on the head so it concentrates the green in that area, giving a bit of focus to the face. The gloves actually fade from green at the elbow to white at the hands, this is covered by the aura a bit and the end result to my eyes is that the aura seems to grow "hotter" as it extends down his arms. To think, soon I'll be able to throw neon green fire as a radioactive rain pours from the sky! *shudders with antica...(SAY IT!)...PATION!*
I wouldn't be too surprised if this guy gets a new name sometime. I'm not satisfied with Gammaforge really, but his costume is DONE....
We, I'm pretty sure anyway...
Thanks for looking. -
OK, Lots to look at here. Thanks very much to everyone (Umbral teh math Sensei). I just got home and, sadly, received some bad news. My step children's Grandfather passed away). They are already off to their Dad's house but it's a rather somber night here.
I'll look at this more later, thanks again. -
I had this exact thought on the way to work. I really won't have the time to explore this until much later tonight.
I was trying to decide what to drop to get Dark Consumption into the build and I began to wonder if it would return more endurance than Quick Recovery, which led to wondering about dropping Stamina. I'll investigate this but If I dump the whole fitness pool that also opens up the build to adding Hasten. I don't particularly like Hasten unless I can get it's downtime to under 20 seconds or so but it bears looking into.
Thanks for posting the build Shredder! I'll look very closely at it tonight. -
Quote:No published arc no. I just load them up to practice with Saint or Technogeist and usually run a test, This character has just been created though. I still have my Corrupter project to finish anyway. Soo much fun stuff I just can't get it all inI don't think Bill Z can handle multiple AVs without aid self. But I'd like to try. Is there an arc already built for this test?
Thanks everyone for your input. I'll try to get some time at work today to look closely at what everyone's said and the different builds posted.
As for endurance management, I'll try to fit Dark Consumption in. That would solve any endurance woes, but I still need to get a viable attack chain in there. -
-
Quote:Hmmm an interesting point. AVs resist -ToHit alot though, and the debuff from the attacks would only be applied to one AV. Of course there's also a tad of -ToHit in Rise to the Challenge... I wonder how all that would add up?Wow that is a really good looking build power, I tried to play around with it but only managed to raise your defense a few decimal points percent higher but nothing really amazing. With Dark's To Hit Debuff I'd say that the soft cap doesn't really matter as much as it normally would but I could be wrong.
-
Quote:Right, here's what I'm hoping. Let's throw 5 AVs into the mix, even one with a GodMode. That would mean Soul Drain would have 5 targets for the duration of the fight. It might be enough to push through a few of them, leaving the easier ones for last.He can do it because he is P-Forge, get with the times son.
As for the build, WP won't do as much damage as /SD so you're gonna have to pick AVs with no godmode or self heal. Follow the advice by Rieze and you should have a pretty survivable toon.
Quote:You have a very similar build to my Fire/WP scrapper. She's around 37% defense to all, but without the gladiator unique. And I couldnt push it any further while keeping my attack chain (GFS, Cremate, Inc, FS). But I can say she's already a monster of survivability with those numbers. Yours will even do better with Siphon Life ofc
But the Fire attack chain is much easier than the DM one, so here we run into troubles...
The scrapper standard on DM is ofc MG/Smite/SL/Smite, but it requires 234% in MG and 184% in Smite. You have atm 116.5% in MG and 137,5% in Smite so you're ofc far from those numbers (pretty normal as your build aims toward max survivability and not toward max recharge, and anyway you can't get there without Hasten).
For a brute I would think first about MG/Sm/SL/Sm/Gloom but your recharge on Smite is the barrier for anything containing Sm/SL/Sm : it requires 167.4% on Smite. Without hasten, you would need 70% global recharge and it's not possible with such a build. I guess that unfortunately without a slower recharging attack like SP it will be hard to get a single target chain without any gap : if you fire all your attacks from the highest dpa to lowest dpa, then after fire them as they come back you should end up having all of them on cooldown. I could be wrong, wait for an attack chain specialist to confirm it or not^^
I think your recharge on Smite is the barrier to get a real attack chain, for that you should need either 70% global recharge, or hasten. In both cases it will of course spoil your high defense build. Hehe sorry for the bad news, I hope I'm wrong
Off to grab the calculator. -
Quote:Hi Rieze,I can't jump on mids right now but from what I see, you can change the order of some powers to enable you to 6 slot tactics with GFC. Pull 3 slots from stamina. You will be ok with just the +end proc slotted there. That should get you closer to the soft cap.
Thanks for the quick advice. I have concerns about endurance already though. Remember that the goal here is to defeat multiple AVs at once. That means an infinite supply of endurance. I have some experience in this arena and a quick glance is leading me to believe that he will currently have to take a break now and then as it is. But, like I said I haven't done the math to determine his attack chain just yet. I will say that my DM/SD scrapper has a net endurance recovery of 2.51eps and still needs to rely on Conserve Power and Dark Consumption in long fights. This Brute will most likely run a similar attack chain and recovers 2.57eps. That looks like trouble to me. Accolades will definitely help though. If this were just a normal solo environment I wouldn't hesitate to take your suggestion.
Quote:Um, a brute question in the scrapper section? But besides that, I would concentrate on Smahing/ Lethal and Energy/ negative over Fire/ cold defense. And my personal experience with WP is that 30% defense is a magic number for survival. Once I hit got to that level, I felt uber.
Yeah, a Brute question here on our scrapper forums. It's one of the things I like about this place. Some of CoH best number crunchers hang out here. You'll see this from time to time. I've received help on another Brute here as well as a Corrupter. Everyone's just very helpful.
Thanks again. -
Hello Scrappers!
I hope Double XP Weekend was good to all of you!
Over the last two weeks I broke out an older tank of mine and began trying to maximize his survival. He's WP and the end result made me very happy.
But I got to wondering what I could do with a similar build and Siphon Life to add even more survivability. I gave that a whirl in Mids but ran into some snags. The biggest one was being forced to take Shadow Punch. If I recall SP is not a very desirable attack. I ran some quick numbers and it's DPS seemed a bit lacking.
This led me to Brutes.
Being able to choose Smite as a level one attack solved my problem and also gave me access to Gloom (as I remember Gloom is a pretty desirable power choice).
So here we are.
I have NOT given this build a terribly in depth look. What I mean by this is that I haven't worked out my attack chain. I'm sure there's a good one in there but I may be a bit over on recharge or I may be a bit shy. I am also falling about 5 points short of soft capping. I don't know how much that will affect me really. I am quite sure this build could defeat most AVs. What I was really looking for here was something crazy, like defeating 4 or 5 AVs at once. Perhaps even more. I think I am going to want to push my defense higher to accomplish that but maybe not? Maybe 40% would be good enough considering the other benefits of this build.
The benefits are:
Almost 2200 HP with NO accolades.
50% resistance to S/L
Regenning 62 HP/Sec with one foe in range 101 HP/Sec with 10 foes in range.
And Siphon Life healing 253HP every 5.44 sec.
Solid Accuracy against +4s even when SD is down.
The more I look at this the more it seems pretty scary.
Can anyone push the defense to 45%? Do I even need to worry about it?
Thanks for looking.

Hi! I'm Powerforge. I've been playing a bit over three years and have leveled many different AT.
About a year ago I soloed my first AV and really began trying to maximize my builds. I came to the scrapper forums and met a lot of very helpful people and to this day I am still learning. I realize now that soloing an AV really is a modest accomplishment (particularly after playing a MM to 50. What a powerhouse!), but I still remember the feeling I had when I did it the first time.
Lately I have been experimenting with other ATs but my home will always be here with the scrappers. Lots of helpful, knowledgeable folks here.
I'm very much looking forward to power customization, as character design and concept are very important to me. -
WeGame is the answer I think.
I actually use Fraps but it doesn't compress the videos so in Raw form I can get 30+gb of movies. Plus Fraps costs money for full functionality. I paid for the license a few years back. -
GAH! That's not my build at all. lol. I must have changed WM into DM accidentally and posted it. Sorry about that. While I do have tentative plans to examine a DM/WP tank it's definitely not what I posted.
This is Godbreaker's build.

Sure Santo. =)
He's WM/WP but this really has me thinking that a similar build that was DM/WP would be even more durable. Add Siphon Life into this and...
Which brings me to Brutes, like Iggy. Sadly they don't get the same defensive values so I could only get the Brute to around 40% to all types. I might try again though after I finish my Corrupter.
Anyway here's Godbreaker's build.

Quote:Haha thanks Val.Grats on the AV kills!
Personally, I tried to busy myself in-game by building my second build, trying to get the WeGame client working with CoH, researching Aion, and reading some books.
Nice video there Powerforge, the end is quite amusing. -
I broke out Mid's and started reinventing my tanker.
Then I loaded up some AVs in AE and started stress testing him. I really haven't been a big team player in the past but I'm trying to change that. Plus, the sheer survivability is just fun in a whole different way. I may not be able to kill an AV but I'd never tank that many on any of my scrappers either.
I also really missed the forums alot more than I thought I would. Hell, here it is X2 XP weekend and what am I doing? lol browsing the forums. =) -

IMHO the best Scrapper (DM/SD) outperforms the best Stalker (DM/Nin) at soloing AVs, at least damagewise.

What's your opinion on Electric/Nin? -
Haha can't blame the guy for being excited though! It's just plain wonderful stuff!
-
If cost is part of your decision the I'd say Masterminds as well. Mine is Bots/Dark and very capable. Currently he does have an expensive build but he was getting the job done with regular IOs when he first hit 50 (although it was ugly, Silver Mantis is an example).
My Scrapper is DM/SD and also very capable. Even defeating Lord Recluse solo. He is, however, stupidly expensive.

MMs are easily the most misunderstood AT in this game.
Until you play one at least into 30s you have no idea. And not PL'd to 30 either, the early game is needed to learn to control the pets.
How does a heavy KB MM co-exist with a brute? There has to be give and take. And some maturity. Trade off being the alpha collector, it doesnt have to be the brute, everytime. MM's that learn to hold back and learn to play clean up. Then the next group, they lead with a taunt to collect the alpha and the brute plays clean up. Thats how you steamroll.
If you are a brute thats only happy being the center of attention everytime, and need to footstomp in nice concentric circles - ALL THE TIME-then you need to learn how to play nicely with others.

I'd agree with this.
