Quote:OK so I had to buy a jetpack! Didn't realise it was floating in bloody space!!!!Right, I'm going for it.
I have stealth and Teleport, will try using only those, if it gets too hard, I'll buy a jetpack, but they're a bit high-tech for the 'Patriots style!

I've not encountered this problem yet?
/e runs and finds the nearest tree, hugging it tightly -
So yeah as I've mentioned on numerous occassions I am capped at 14 until the money tree bloosoms. I was wondering if there is anything I can do that won't be detremental to not gaining any XP at present?
Badges etc or do you also gain XP for these types of discoveries?
(of course I have alt's but I wanna play my Defender? IwannaIwannaIwanna!)
Any help/advice/finger pointing is appreciated in advance! -

Awesome guide, thanks! I play an Empath/AR Defender and have been looking for ages to find good advice on this powerset.
As for Pool picks, I chose Stealth (for obvious reasons) and Teleport.
Teleport is really handy for a Empath/AR Defender.
It allows you to:
Change your position mid-battle.
Pick off unsuspecting bosses/guards to ease any final fight.
Rescue fallen comrades, Heal/Rez, send 'em back into the battle as quickly as possible.
If it's OK with the OP I'd like to post a link for this in the Defenders section. -
Quote:Oh I will be buying, once I can afford it. I been looking at the Empathy guide and it has really helped. Got my next 6 power picks sorted anyway!Something else you should keep in mind that heals are usually the LEAST effective means of keeping yourself and teammates alive in this game. Where in other MMOs they are all about heals, in City of Heroes, it's all about this:
An ounce of PREVENTION is worth a pound of CURE.
And in this case, prevention includes things like controls, buffs, debuffs, etc, etc. Basically anything that stops you from taking the damage in the FIRST place is far preferred to anything that will heal the damage AFTER the fact. Please keep that in mind.
Also it sounds like you are on the 14 day trial. You should buy the game! It's really worth it, even if you're only going to play for a month or two, the cost of the game is basically $5 plus the cost of the first month, which comes "free" when you buy the game. -
Thanks alot Westley, I can easily say without doubt Defender is my faveoutire archetype. Now that I have played a few hours and reached the capped level for this toon for the moment, I can use the time to plan my next picks. Having only one pick in my primary, Healing Aura, I need to start selecting some more to help my team because at the moment I do a pretty good job of keeping myself alive but my team are left to rely on other healers or their own initiative (quite rightly so, what am I, Joan of freakin' Arc?) Anyway again, thankyou for the warm welcome. I'm sure you'll be seeing alot of me!

Why don't they Advertise?

Damn staright I sepll stuff wonrg all the time with worlds liek form and garet!
Simply becasue I type way too fast and my fingers trip over each other! -
I only found this by accident. I used to play on SA:MP RP servers but got very tired of the players being idiots (very young player base-especially compared to myself)
So I decided I would try Guild Wars, which I hated. Then discovered a link to this..and the rest... well it's been a great few weeks, not looking forward to Trial running out!

I'm pretty sure I haven't touched the difficulty settings so they will be at whatever default. I will go IG and check soon. Shame I can't level him any further at present
-
I can't see anywhere on here for a Emp/Assault Defender, I buit one and I feel as if I am going mad trying to find any sort of advice/criticism on where i'm going wrong if at all.
Any help would be appreciated! -
Great Manifeto! Love the mentality it puts across! Strangely, I adopted this mentality when I created and begun playing my Defender. Empath/Assault with stealth/TP. Having discovered this community here on this thread I feel at home and not out of place. I pride myself on making sure all enemies don't get get close enough when in large numbers. M30 granade launcher does wonders with this especially with a Range/KB Enc. wedged in it
I am also good at dealing with larger mobs by picking them off one by one using TP Foe. Plus with still only one pick on primary 'Heal Aura' and the rest stacked into Assault and stealth/TP etc... I felt I'd built a monster, now I don't feel so ashamed!
*pulls up a chair and makes himself at home* -
THis is my first character that has been any good. Can solo quite well due to TP Foe, enabling me to pick off the hard guys in a mob. I have no idea what difficulty settings I have at present I will have to check, but here is a pic of my current stats. Level 14 and capped due to trial account.

Thanks for the advice, I will bare it in mind. I have several different atchetypes at persent and enjoying them all. Swift certainly improves flight speed - but I also have 3x15+ Flight speed in Hover and Another 15+Fligth speed in Swift, now I cannot wait to get Fly at lvl14...but then I wil be capped unitl I can subscribe.
I have already reached the cap on my forum title Character

Regarding Travel - I took Hover on my Fire/Fire Blaster - as do most - but I stuck two Flight Speed +10's in there, using a Crowbar!
I have been considering a Blaster with TP, though I don't think this would work too well, probably still gonna try at some point!
Leaping is always a fun choice, I will get shot down in flames for saying this but I would be tempted to take Leaping and Hover for the right concept. -
I noticed I get a message that advises me i'm working off a debt! What the hell? I don't remember borrowing nothin' in the way of money or stuff?
I did Sidekick with some level 50 guy last night, but surely that doesn't affect this in this way, am I right?
Any ideas people? -
I thought this as I re-specced a very low level character so I could level her with my friends. I got to lvl6 in no time and picked Hover - and I am glad to say I appreciated the time spent on foot, learning how to use my powers and my way around the city. If I had Hover/Fly at level 1 I would probably still be level 5, flying around like a goombah and not levelling my character!
