Capped:What else can I do?
So yeah as I've mentioned on numerous occassions I am capped at 14 until the money tree bloosoms. I was wondering if there is anything I can do that won't be detremental to not gaining any XP at present?
Badges etc or do you also gain XP for these types of discoveries? (of course I have alt's but I wanna play my Defender? IwannaIwannaIwanna!) Any help/advice/finger pointing is appreciated in advance! |
If you can get enough influence to play around with you could also pass time by playing the market and seeing how much you can make.

Honestly, my #1 suggestion would be to try a few different characters out. Level 14 is high enough to get a decent idea how a character plays. My first character was a Tanker, who I loved... until I tried a Scrapper, which was even more fun. And my Defender was better than that. These days, I don't even play Tankers. This may be heretical to admit, but you might find that Defenders aren't your favorite. Different ATs play vastly differently, and even different powersets within those ATs can be night and day. I'd highly suggest trying a few out before you commit to taking one to 50.
Apart from that, though:
Explore If you're careful, you can get around most of the zones on foot in relative safety, even ones dozens of levels higher than you. Zones that you might want to avoid until you get a jetpack: Eden, Terra Volta. Independence Port is also a giant nothing, so just don't bother.
I'd especially recommend the Shadow Shard. Find a Green Line tram (the easiest to reach are in Steel Canyon and Skyway City) and take it to Talos Island, then find the Peregrine Island Ferry on your map. Take that to PI and find the marker for Firebase Zulu on your map. Crossing PI might be a little treacherous, but you shouldn't have too much trouble getting a high-level to escort you if you ask nicely. If you can't get one, just jump into the water and swim until you're within spitting distance of the big white buildings; nothing spawns in the ocean. You'll have to go through one of the giant noisy portals to get to Firebase Zulu. Once inside FBZ, you can buy a jetpack for 10,000 influence. Don't worry about the cost much--once you start playing for real, this is a single kill or two at higher levels. The Shard is a really high-level area, but as long as you stay flying well above the ground, you should be safe. Especially be sure to check out the Storm Palace and the Cascade Archipelago. If you ever get lost, you can teleport back to the entrance of the zone by jumping into the void.
Rikti War Zone and Dark Astoria are also quite worth checking out. If you want to browse a little for yourself, check out the zone list on ParagonWiki.
Socialize On most servers, the platform under the statue in Atlas Park is a socializing spot. This is also often the host to impromptu costume contests. Most of these give out rewards that are a few orders of magnitude more than what you can carry at the moment, so if you happen to win, you might want to see if you can take a rain check on receiving your loot. If you're on Virtue, Pocket D is also a gathering spot if you like to roleplay.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Personally, I suggest exploring the Shadow Shard. It should be easy enough to get there with a travel power, and it's certainly possible without one. I'm planning an excursion into the depths of the Shard with my level 1 exploration badger when I can spare the time. In case you don't know where to find the gate to the Shard:
1) Get to Talos Island. (In King's Row, you can jump in the truck to Pocket D and go out the Talos door. In Steel, go to the Green Line station at the north end and catch a train to Talos.)
2) Make your way carefully to the Peregrine Island ferry (it'll be marked on your map with an F). Flying shoudl bypass all of the mobs here, but you can make it on foot pretty easily, too.
3) Once in PI, check your map. At the north end of the main island, there will be a gate marker for Firebase Zulu. Set it as your waypoint, then go a short distance out to sea west of the island. (Going straight up the middle of the island is survivable, but it does expose you to snipers, so the water is safer.) Go back ashore when you're even with your waypoint. Steer well clear of the mobs and head into the Portal Corp courtyard. Safe! (For now.)
4) The nothernmost of the three Portal buildings holds the FBZ portal. Go in, down the elevators, and hang a right. Click on the glowy-noisy-spinny thing to zone.
5) Say "Hi" to General Hammond and look around for more portals--they'll be ahead and to your left. One leads out of the safe area of the base and into the FBZ zone proper, and the others lead to the Chantry, the Cascade Archipelago, and the Storm Palace, which are home to some of the coolest scenery in the game.
6) If you can't fly on your own, you can buy a Raptor Pack temp power here, or you can use the gravity geysers to jet around the floating islands. You don't take falling damage here, and if you fall between islands, you just get ported back to the zone entrance.
7) If you make it to the Storm Palace itself (you'll know it when you see it), grab a screenshot of your character standing on it and post it here so we can cheer for you.

Right, I'm going for it.
I have stealth and Teleport, will try using only those, if it gets too hard, I'll buy a jetpack, but they're a bit high-tech for the 'Patriots style!

(I did get killed once, with a single shot but I didn't even see where it came from, I assume a sniper! /e shakes fist)

Well done, and quickly, too! Did you enjoy playing tourist?
There's actually a way to get to the Death St...er, Storm Palace without flying, but it's substantially slower and more difficult, even at high levels--the gravity geysers make a trail around the long arc of islands that will get you there, as long as you don't misstep or get eaten by some of the most annoying mobs in the game. Flying is quicker, though.
The Storm Palace is where my empath used to go to hunt. He held the top of the Nemesis boards for storm elementals for months.

Welcome to the City.
Not in game at the moment where I could even attempt to check it out, but I believe while you can't actually aquire the various accolade powers I believe you can do all the footwork. For example, defeat all the vampyri and warwolves, for silver bullet and slayer, grab the history badge, etc. etc.. You'd need a mentor to sk up to be able to handle the mobs, but when you are on a full subscription and can level beyond 14th, in this case 21 if I recall correctly, you'd be awarded the Accolade. I think, and welcome to CoX.

If you haven't, find and check out Paragon Wiki. It has all sorts of details about CoX. Accolade Powers are benefits gained by having certain Accolade badges unlocked. Having received the Atlas Medallion, for example, you gain +5 maximum endurance, so instead of having 100 endurance to work from you would have 105. Others can boost Maximum Health, grant you the power to summon an Invention Crafting Table, or boost your To Hit and Recovery for a brief period.
I believe currently, excluding the ones gained from Day Jobs (another whole category of badges you could work on that have tangible ingame benefits beyond "oh shiney!"), that there are 10 Accolade Powers available from Accolade badges. Maybe someone a bit more adept than I can provide a link to Paragon Wiki's pages on Accolade Powers.
EDIT: Quick footnote as I realized I stumbled on at least one Accolade Power you can't do all the ground work on early. Geas of the Kind Ones (which does, among other things, the +To Hit and +Recovery I mentioned) requires completing the Katie Hannon Task Force. You can't sidekick up into the level range of a Task Force, even with a full subscription.
And add Task Force Commander to the can't lay all the groundwork for at 14th list.
The accolade he was talking about is the Atlas Medallion. It grants your character permanent increase in endurance by 5. Soo if you have 100 endurance normally when you get the atlas medallion you have 105. Other Accolades add to health total by 5-10% and there are even others that grant access to clickable powers or unlockable weapon models. On another note there is another giant floating ball like the one in the storm palace in the chantry and you can actually go in that one whenever you want. Its the prison of Faathim, an aspect of Rularuu. I really wish there were some missions with the same kind of wall and floor textures like whats in the chantry itself.
Work in progress no more. I have decided that I'm going to put my worst spelling errors here. Triage Bacon, Had this baster idea, TLR
