    domi and pvp

    Dominators can take down tankers at a good rate if you know what to do.
    Stood my ground against 2 tankers in SC for a couple of months ago....to me it looked like they had more problems trying to squat me than I had taking on them.
    Only thing that saved them though was the tanker inherent..."gauntlet" I have no taunt resistance so it made it hard to concentrate on just one at the time.
    Have also taken down regen scrappers without much difficulty.

    You know what I'd call that example? A bad team.

    Heroes have more synergy because they've got clearer rolls. People don't seem to know how to handle villains, they play Stalkers like Scrapper, Brutes like Tanks, Dominators like Controllers and Corrupters like Blasters. That's wrong as far as I'm concerned.

    I've gone Dom/Dom/Corrupter (Grav/Psi, L24 was me, a a Grav/Nrg at about 31 Dark/Rad Corr at 26 odd) and dropped a Blaster/Empath duo from my SG. It was incredibly hard, we didn't have the burst damage, but soon as one of us hit Domination and locked down the Empath, the Blaster was easy.

    You ask me to PvP on a Dom for months so I can better understand how they work or do not work? Sure, ok, while I'm doing that, PvP on a semi-regular basis for about a year on an Empath or a Blaster in a team and better understand how they have to perform their rolls. CM'ing 7 people and having no Mez protection yourself is hard. Being on a support heavy team and being the only real damage dealer is hard. Being a Dom and expecting to hold a buffed team, is hard, and a tad stupid. I mean, if you're stacking Domination that hard on a single target and they're not getting held, it means that they're popping a ton of BF's and that the Empath/Sonic is continuosly buffing them. You know what that means? They're probably not concentrating as much on the rest of the team, have the rest of your team drop the Empath while they're preoccupied, or a Blaster. Blasters are stupid squishy without CM or Fort in Sirens.

    Going against higher numbers should be almost impossible to pull of as they SHOULD have better support. Dominator's need looking at because their solo survivability can be an issue if they lack the team support needed. No heal, lacklustre control and damage out of Domination.

    How many Corr heavy teams you been on? Had a Therm, Kin and a Cold backing you up at the same time? That would give you so much survivability it's unreal. The argument hear seems that a balanced Hero team is unfair to a smaller villain team or a solo villain. Well, you know what? I'm scared of a balanced Villain team. I'm scared of being slow capped instantly by a */Cold corrupter and not being able to help me team, or being sonic caged, or being hit by something like Melt Armour and being anihilated.

    Just because something seems unfair in Sirens Call (of all places) doesn't mean it needs a nerf, tweak, or balance. Sirens is a brilliant place for a handfull of AT's and powersets, Warburg is a lot more balanced and in the Arena at 50 it's a lot more fun IMO, even if the PPP's are pretty crud.

    A bad team you say ?....strange, the team looked more or less well balanced to me and was after your statements a good team.
    We had a thermal and a sonic corruptor, 2-3 brutes, a mastermind, 2-3 stalkers and me...the dominator.
    Now...the defender were constantly hiding INSIDE the hospital and rarely went out further than the drones could reach...making it hard to get the defender.
    There she/he was buffing and healing if necessary.
    The blasters and the scrapper were coming out in waves and sometimes tried to flank us.
    This was one night.

    You are speaking so good of how a cold, sonic, kinetics and a cold corruptor can be in PvP....well, there's alot of kinetics going around...but thermal,sonic and cold are very scarce....thus making it hard to get their buffs.

    And Im well aware of the hero synergy because of their dedicated roles.

    Why I used SC as an example is because its the most busy PvP zone.
    Bloody Bay ? basically dead....rarely anyone there at all
    Warburg ? basically dead too, except from some badgers and stalkers without "thieves honour" APART from the scheduled PvP fights there sometimes.
    Recluses Victory ? basically dead apart from farmers and your standard "ub4h l33t" PvP'ers not there to fight you...but to simply run over you.

    Yea...you and 2 others took down a empath/blaster duo, (hate to say this but...) and I have taken down a kinetics defender/electric blaster duo all by myself, 2 times in a row in about 10-15 minutes.

    Yes...dominators can truly shine sometimes in PvP, but when its heavy with CM and/or BF's...we are just dead weight on the team.

    Im fully aware of that some blasters and defenders are having a hard time in PvP too...but then again, how many empaths arent camping inside the hospital being buff/healing bots, or constantly running back and forth to the hospital ?
    How many blasters arent stacked on insps and/or other buffs becoming unholdable and almost unhittable dishing out perverted ammounts of damage in the matter of seconds (and sometimes you have 2-3 of these).

    As for the empath/sonic "concetrating" on one target ? no need....apply mez resistance (eventually stack it) then the "target" can run along wherever he wants while the "buffer" is camping out of our reach.
    Blasters being stupidly squishy without CM and fortitude ?
    Basically yes...but then again you have the stacking of BF's and other insps plus their insane burst damage resulting from a aim+build up.

    Yes, Dominators needs a look at when it comes to survivability....which can easily be done by introducing a mez resistance cap (like some others on this thread has said).
    Say forexample a cap at 15-20....if a dominator or controller for that sake manages to stack a higher mag....the target is held and cant be set free no matter WHAT for the entire "control" duration.
    If the target havent reached the cap and pops a BF or receives a mez resistance from another place that will raise their mez above the mag which the offender currently have stacked, the target then breaks free.

    How many corruptor heavy teams Ive been on ? for some months ago there were several....but in the past few months more and more have been rolling stalkers and brutes...and masterminds.
    As I said earlier....things like thermal, cold and sonic are quite scarce, kinetics are the most common (at least seems like that everytime Ive been doing PvP)

    A defender's CM gives tank level protection, if your holds recharged instantly i dont think you could stack enough to hold a heavily CMd target.

    Last time I checked, Thaw gave Hold Res. Holds are pretty redundant in Team PvP if both teams have good support. Goes for both sides, Red and Blue.

    A Controller will find it hard to stack over a buffed target the same way a Dominator will, (1) only difference is, a Dominator should eventually hit Domination.

    It seems that this argument is more concerned with the Mez protection of CM and Clarity, opposed to it's +Perc. Villains get protection from the most common kinds of Mez in Thaw. Quite why the Dev's decided to omit Fear and Confuse Res is beyond me, but I can probably count the amount of times someone has tried to confuse me in team PvP on one hand.

    (2) Biggest problem I see is a Dominator's survivability solo , a Controller wins here. Same HP, near identical Primary (I don't want to get in to a Domination-vs-Duration/Critical Hold debate so don't start), but Debuff/Buff secondary trumps Assualt in 1-vs-1's. Dom's have to rely on teams for something as simple as a heal or debuffs. Controllers can do that solo.

    (1) And Domination WONT do squat.
    Stack enough CM and/or BF's and they will just shrug off the holds...or it lasts so short its almost pointless.

    (2) Not just solo but also within a full team.
    Without any shields or major buffs, it takes ONE blaster ca 3 seconds to kill a dominator.
    Yes...everyone on the team should look out for each other, buff up and all that...but when some of the hardest hitting damage dealers on the hero side decides to only go for the Dominator all the time, and waits patiently for the right time...the Dominator is gonna be wiped...fast.

    Well...thanks and I apologize for my previous post....just got [censored] after 2+ months of hard work in PvP with ALOT of completely un-holdable heroes and then seeing those replies.

    I know and my friends know that my 400 rep points are earned in the hard way by defeating heroes and occasionally villains normally without any kind of "cheating", so Im actually not that bothered if you dont believe me

  9. This happened me a couple of weeks ago actually....but last night made me remember...so I decided to make a post.

    Well, I logged on my dominator and entered sirens call to try have some fun in PvP.
    As I entered there was some fiery talk over broadcast about a blaster using TP foe to drop squishies on top of his caltrops and mines.
    Then I joined in on a team and we fought some heroes near one of the hotspots.
    So, the heroes then decide they will bail back to base and camp there...so we follows after.

    Now, the heroes starts coming out 1 by 1 and occasionaly 2-3 but gets paved fairly quickly.
    Thats when our squishies suddenly starts to disappear 1 by 1 and basically dies instantly....of course the blaster is back.
    I gets TP'ed and dies instantly on the mines...rezzes at hospital, sighs and uses aid self...then back to hero base.
    Some more squishies are TP'ed onto mines (none of the brutes were ever TP'ed) and I gets TP'ed again...rezzes, again at the hospital another sigh and gets back to hero base.
    The TP'ing continues and Im TP'ed a 3'rd time.

    I then bites my lip not to flood the broadcast with rants and just say over the broadcast:

    "so Mr.Blaster (dont want to use names), do you have anything else besides TP foe onto your mines or is that all you got? seriously, its just lame and pisses people off"
    The blaster then replies over the broadcast about he is so squishy, this is the only tactic he got because he dont have any mez resistance, I will just hold him and he will be ganked etc etc (the blaster was also not teamed with the other heroes )

    So I gets back to hero base and to my big surprise finds the blaster outside sniping me.
    I spots him quite fast and fires off a hold....he is held and drops to the ground and I starts laying down fire on him.
    Suddenly he pops a breakfree, puts up his toggles and starts attacking with burst, slug, web grenade and caltrops.
    In the end he kills me because of defiance.

    So I rezzes and thinks: "impressive...he came out" gets back to hero base and the blaster is to be found outside again, sniping me and fireing off slug and burst.
    I hold him again, he pops a BF again and atatcks me...a little firefight inbetween us 2 then I throw a bonfire at him so he gets knocked back and off a ledge and down to the street below us.
    He comes up again and I disappears around a corner with just a sliver of health and heals myself.
    Then a teammate comes running and aimes in for the blaster...which activates cloaking device and bails.
    So we go back to the hero base and fights a little more...and the TP'ing starts again...I just shook my head and didnt bother.

    Now....here comes the funny part...most people will think this was a random whining blaster....BUT...that blaster belongs to one of Defiants self proclaimed "kings of PvP" which just logged in his "ub3r" PvP spiner last night just to show me how he "pwnz0r" my dominator...and again holds a speech of how he is known on Defiant and how he is a "rated top PvP'er"

    When an opponent is held or slept, the stalker has a 10-20% chance of critical...same goes for stalker AoE attacks...10-20% chance of critical whetever you are hidden or not.
    If you ask me this is a rubbish crit chance compared to scrappers....even in PvP.

    Countless times Ive been 2 or 3 shotted by scrappers because of criticals landing in a row.

    When it comes to blasters */EM.......its ridicously high.
    Build-up+Aim and they can take down a squishy in about 3 seconds.....I was hit for about 430 from only one attack by a blapper (305 something smashing and 130 something energy) and that was outside of defiance...he had almost full health.

    Ok, it breaks it for me then. Sorry I havent put my point across very pleasantly so far, I'm still annoyed.
    One CM gives a target tanker level mezz protection, it takes 3 dom boosted holds to hold a tanker. Realisticaly you could CM a small team with 5 to 10 times tanker level mezz protection. Now. IMO. it is impossible to stack between 15 to 50 dom boosted holds on a target. In that environment you would be lucky to even build domination in the 1st place so it would take about double the holds.
    Q a load of people telling me I'm moaning, but consider if res shields were to stack from the same caster...

    btw. this isnt just a villian issue. I believe thaw from thermal stacks from the same caster as well, not sure, so maybe someone who plays a thermal can confirm or deny that for me.

    Even worse was it for my dominator once.

    A defender shrugged off 7 holds, blasters shrugging off about 4 holds, a defender shrugging off 4 DOMINATION BOOSTED HOLDS (held her on the 5'th) and controllers shrugging off about 4 holds....I didnt even bothered trying to hold any of the scrappers or tankers.

    It was like that for about an hour in Sirens Call.
  12. Spines is "teh l33t" ever wonder why there are so few of them in PvE and swarms of them in PvP =P

    Most used skill is Imaple....hilarious good damage for a ranged skill on a melee set, plus it has -fly and immobilize.

    Why bother with a squishy blaster when you can "pwn" as ranged scrapper.

    I think most people are getting tired of being victim of "gank the squishy" whenever they enters a PvP zone.....I am at least.
  14. I would suggest sonic/radiation.

    Sonic Attacks has a nice -resistance on most if not all attacks, wide cone sleep and knockback plus a single stun.

    Radiation Emission has really great debuffs, get all 3 I would say.

    Accelerated Metabolism is a wonder, pop it and fire off all 3 debuffs and you can still attack like a mad.

    Choking Cloud is good but a little un-predictable, EMP is better there.

    EMP stuns in a big area and damages all "robotic" mobs, plus EMP doesnt drain your endurance...only reduces your recovery for about 5 seconds.

    Fallout and the rez can be veeeery good in teams, but no need for them if you are going solo.

    You say you have it yourself, Psydock...and asks for it to be nerfed because YOU think its overpowered.

    It seems to me that you dont have it at all and want bother taking it, so you want it nerfed because you cant kill others in PvP fast enough if they use it.

    There are other skills that needs their effectiveness lowered...but aid self is just fine as it is.

    Well....thats exactly what Ive done and you of all should know...unless you have forgotten me...but anyway I'll tell a short story.

    We were 2 dominators against a scrapper and a defender (or blaster, dont remember right now).

    I was jumping around firing of some attacks and mezzes trying to hold the scrapper and build up domination.

    Could not hold, sleep or confuse the scrapper...he continued whacking at me.

    So, domination is at max and I activates it.

    DOMINATION after DOMINATION after DOMINATION pops up over his head....and he was completely unaffected as he was still humping my leg.

    I fired off 4-5 holds and even more sleeps and 2-4confuses but nothing worked.

    I could add much more but dont want to turn this post into a big whine post.

    Im not saying that every control set can be rendered useless...but when the enemy has sufficient defenses against mezzes plus popping BF's...Mind control forexample becomes completely useless while some other sets still have powers not bent on mezzes.
  19. I would say that dominators are the squishiest in PvP actually.

    Unless you are choosing special control sets they can be turned almost completely useless...even with domination running.
  20. Ive had mind probe and levitate as the only attacks on my dominator for quite a while now...and one thing has become more and more annoying...Im missing alot with mind probe compared to levitate and other powers.

    All control and attack powers are 3 slotted with accuracy SO's.....but still Im missing with mind probe at least twice as much as with levitate (they both have the same recharge time by the way).

    Does anyone know if MP has any penalty to accuracy ?

    And can anyone point at any tool I can use to get stats from combat !?!

    Dominators are balanced between control and damage. During Domination they will out-damage most Corruptors. Playing them like a Controller doesn't make the most of them.

    I know Filth, but when dominators seriously starts lacking on the control side they should rethink their template....or even their choice of class.

    By all means, people should have their own style of play...but you dont pick a healing class and are more worried about boosting your damage than healing...forexample.

    But Im gonna stop here as this discussion doesnt have very much to do about the OP.

    I know well that corruptors cant possibly hold an Elite Boss or even a boss...but still.

    This is not an attack on you _Doc_ but it just seems that more and more forgets the main role of Dominators, namely crowd control.

    Dont know what you EXACTLY meant by this MaXimillion, BUT...there is a reason why the AoE heal ALWAYS are the first power you get on some corruptor 2'nd power sets

    I've been into the same thing Cathode, my dominator has aid other and aid self.
    A couple of times the 2 exact same corruptors joined in on the team I was on...XX/DM and XX/KIN.

    2 of the most powerful heals for corruptors....hehe, now guess who was running around keeping the team alive.

    Me, sleeping and holding mobs like mad while using aid other on the brute AND even the 2 corruptors.

    I asked the corruptors why they didnt healed at all, the answer was "because it sucks"

    I would consider myself a defender even though I can really kick it if it needs.

    Have only 4 attacks, but in return they are maxed out on damage.

    Even if you are a "blaster" and relies only on your 1'st power set...your heal should be maxed out on slots.
  24. I have a rad/rad corruptor.
    I took the nuke once and respecced it away quite fast.

    Yes...it does very good damage when slotted and such...but as I am a supporter in teams the endurance bit is never worth it.
    I took EMP instead...slotted it with 3 hold duration....magnifique.

    It drains about 1/8 of your end and you gets -recovery for about 5-8 seconds while even lvl minions at least, are stunned for about 15 seconds (around 25 with 3 hold duration SO's)....much better than a big BOOM and no endurance for the team's only AoE healer

    Plus that the other side effects of the EMP is devastating for the enemies.

    LR and EMP.....screws up about everything.

    ....for the enemy that is.
  25. I currently now have a mind/psi dominator.

    In the beginning soloing went very slow....damage was lousy.
    Then I respecced and took only 2 attack powers (3 because of the 1'st one in psi assault)wich is levitate and mind probe.
    These 2 are fully slotted with accuracy and damage.

    Soloing is very easy now....even lvl minions are falling like flies.

    My suggestion is to work out a couple of good damage skills in the start...then concentrate on control skills after that....at least it helped me alot on the soloing part
