Second, it is my sincerest opinion that if people were truly as obsessive/compulsive about the badges as they are claiming to be, they would have/should have rerolled their toons as soon as the badges were implemented to ensure that they got them all. That ... and that alone would qualify you as a true badge-ho.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now that is the most assanine thing I have heard of.
You want the badge then delete your level 50 and start from scratch!
[/ QUOTE ]
Making a new character does NOT require you to delete aprevious character - unless, SOMEhow, you already have 88 (COH only) or 132 (COH&V combined) characters. -
The point is, you shoudl NOT be allowign people to get a badge that is SUPPOSED to be available as a limited opportunity.
[*] Hallow Spirit - if you weren't there for the Halloween Event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes me; I wasn't there.[*] Hunter - if you weren't there for the Halloween Event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes me; I wasn't there.[*] Shifter - if you weren't there for the Halloween Event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes me; I wasn't there.[*] Dead Head - if you weren't there for the Halloween Event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes me; I wasn't there.[*] Malleus - if you weren't there for the Halloween Event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes me; I wasn't there.[*] Longbow Reservist / Jet-Setter - if you weren't there for this year's Winter Event, you shouldn't have this badge.[*] Holiday Spirit / Scrooge - if you weren't there for this year's Winter Event, you shouldn't have this badge.[*] Toy Collector / Jet-Setter - if you weren't there for this year's Winter Event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes all but one of my Alts; I wasn't inclined to grind through it more than once.[*] Cold Warrior - if you weren't there for either Winter Event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes me; none of my alts was up to fighting those suckers at that point.[*] Frozen Fury - if you weren't there last year's Winter Event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes me; I wasn't there.[*] Celebrant - if you weren't there for the Anniversary Month, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes me; I wasn't there.[*] Handsome / Beautiful - if you weren't there for the Valentines event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes most of my alts; I wasn't inclined to run those missions THAT often.[*] Toothbreaker - if you didn't tough it out and kill Snaptooth five times during the Valentines event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes most of my alts; I wasn't inclined to run that mission FIVE times.[*] Heart of Light / Heart of Darkness - if you weren't there for the Valentines event, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes most of my alts; I forgot to log them all in during the event - oops!
...
[*] Isolator - if you didn't earn this badge during your COH Tutorial, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes most of my alts; I mostly play Villains, and for some of my heroes ... I plain FORGOT. Oops.[*] Jail Bird - if you didn't earn this badge during your COV Tutorial, you shouldn't have this badge. That includes a few of my alts; some ahre Heroes, and sometimes I just forget to grab it.
It's just that simple! And note: most of the badges I'm saying people shouldn't get second chances at, are badges I DO NOT HAVE. So it is not a matter of "well Ihave MINE, and you just have to suck it up". No, it's more a case of "we BOTH missed that boat ... too bad for us."
Flipside, I wouldn't be averse to seeing a special badge made for any character that WAS out of the tutorial before Isolator was created. Call it Old-Timer if you like - a special nod to those who've "been there, done that" since (literally) COH time began. -
[ QUOTE ]
Don't Bite the Damn Hand:
My point here is, if you want to make use of these people, then you have to do so in a way that isn't conjuring imagery of hands and feeding and the biting thereof. To the posessed badge collector, perfection of the collection is everything - you don't tell someone that slaughtered 10,000 Rikti Monkeys, that camped out the same Halloween door, that scoured the skies every day for two weeks looking for the few Frostlings that weren't being farmed - you don't tell that person that they can't have a badge because they were around for too long!
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay, I'll take you up on this one. First point:
I am a badge-[censored]. I'm addicted, top to bottom, front to back, left to right, inside and out, to getting more badges. I'll have at LEAT one of my excessively-numerous alts cross sides, to collect as many badges from "the other side of the fence" as possible.
So. Why should I be unable to get the Halloween badges ...? Or the badge for killing a Winterlord (or fifty) ...?
If you're going to say "devoted badge-hunters should always have a chance at every badge", well, it cuts both ways. Late joiners should have every bit of a chance at earlier badges, as early-joiners should have at LATER badges.
[ QUOTE ]
Now, some people might say... "Okay, so we let them pick up Isolator. But what about the other 'special' badges?" You know what? Make those available too. I'm not saying all the time... but if you didn't get the Winter Lord badge, then let's put together a Portal Corps. mission to the "Winter Lord Dimension" or what have you. Didn't get the Calvin Scott TF badge in time? I don't blame you, I didn't even KNOW that it was going to be available for a limited time. That's the kind of thing that frustrates me as a badge collector and makes me say to myself "Well if I can't get that one... what's the point in trying to get any of the others?"
[/ QUOTE ]
And Celebrant? What about that? Besides, I think that wuld seriously cheapen the badge for folks that DID earn them.
That goes for current stuff, too; I didn't feel up to getting the badge for killing Snaptooth five times (ugh, FIVE times on EACH character, BLECCH). But it's certainly a point of pride for those that DID stick it out and off him the requisite quintet of times. -

As far as I know - the devs have no plans for including an alternate method to get isolator if you did not get it in outbreak.
[/ QUOTE ]
In other words:
If you were with us from the beginning and put your faith in us at launch this is our way of saying you're SOL. For those of you that didn't have faith in us and hesitated til badges were created, you're in luck.
Thanks guys...

*offers cheese*
Here, this will go great with that whine.
Put me down in the "Too damn bad, suck it up" column.
[/ QUOTE ]
/Signed.
I wasn't here for the Halloween event - I will never get the chance for any of my characters to sport those badges. I wasn't here for the Winterlord XP-Pinatas, so I won't get the badge for popping one of THEM, either. Oh yeah, I wasn't here for the 1-year Anniversary, so I'll never get the Celebrant badge.
Meanwhile, Isolator can be earned right now - on a new character. Anyone, even those who started with the head-start, can make a new character, anytime they want to. Thus, Isolator is MUCH more achievable and acquirable today, than many other badges, which a large portion of the "old guard" does have.
I mean, jeeze guys. All the things that could be improved in COH / COV, and you gotta pick such a non-issue as this?
...
Here's fifty cents. Go call someone who cares - 'cause I certainly don't! -

It's not like your effective combat level doesn't go up automatically when you gain a new level, whether you've trained or not...
[/ QUOTE ]
What you don't get is POWERS, and for some AT's, certainlevels open up powers that are MAJOR breakpoints. Masterminds, for example - any new pet-summons, any new pet-enhancement ... to forgo those solely to avoid leaving Pocket D is, quite frankly, an extremely stupid thing to do.
Stalkers too, to a lesser degree - if they're just getting access to AS, well, that's a major boost in power for them.
Or an Empath, just reaching a level where they can get their Rez.
Or someone with END problems hitting 20, and finally able to grab Stamina. -
True, but Acrobatics does provide Knockback resistance, and as long as you're on your feet, you can activate OTHER powers. ^_^ Like MoG, or other -Repel defense powers.

[ QUOTE ]
Hurricane by itself isn't an "I Win" power by ANY stretch of the imagination. You just have to use your imagination to come up with ways your character can overcome it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Please dwell on this more. How would say a */Regen, */DA, or a */SR scrapper be able to overcome it?
I know Blasters can, if they try. What about Stalkers? All but Energy Armor will have a hard to to overcome this problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
/Regen, Stalker and Scrapper alike: Get acrobatics. Team with someone who has the right use-on-ally powers. Use MoG.
/DA Scrapper: Get acrobatics. Team with someone who has the right use-on-ally powers. Turn on Oppressive Gloom and try to (super)jump so that you land right next to the Hurricane-user, and hope for the best.
/SR, Stalker and Scrapper alike: Get acrobatics. Team with someone who has the right use-on-ally powers. Use Practised Bralwer.
/Nin Stalkers: as /SR, except it's Kuji-in-Rin instead of Practised Brawler.
... you were saying?
And no, none ofthe above is perfect - nor SHOULD it be. But they certainly make Hurricane a non-assured-and-guaranteed "easy button". -
[ QUOTE ]
More of a bug really, but this thread has talked about it. I have tried with two diffeent Heroes to buy the temp powers from Chilly, the bartender. I don't loose any influence, nor do I get a temp power. Well one time he did take my 1000 inf, but I have never gotten a power from him. Others on my team can. My enhancement trays have an opening, mu insp trays have an opening, and yet I have no access to them. What's the trick?
[/ QUOTE ]
They're not enhancements - they don't go in the Enhancement tray.
They're not inspirations - they don't go into the Inspiration tray.
They are Temporary Powers - they go into the POWER tray. The catch is, they don't automatically go into your Power Tray. Click on Powers above the tray, and check the Temporary Powers category - they should be there. If you click on them THERE, they get pulled down into your Power Tray - assuming you have an open spot for them. -

I DESPISE having to team.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then don't. Problem solved.
[ QUOTE ]
And any time I get a mission that boils down to needing two teammates just to disarm bombs or in this case needing to recruit a villain just to click the glowie, it's ridiculously annoying. I had CLEARED the map before finding out I needed a villain partner and then had to clear it again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um, did you not READ THE MISSION DESCRIPTION ...? The description for the second mission on BOTH sides in Pocket D is absolutely and unequivocably unambiguous about needing an ally from the opposing faction.
[ QUOTE ]
Besides, I'm antisocial.
[/ QUOTE ]
It shows.
[ QUOTE ]
I don't like teaming in general and feel that the game should be able to be played ENTIRELY SOLO at the player's discretion.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, that's not going to happen; some content - an extreme minority of it - is specifically, especially, and explicitly intended to be done on a Team. I speak, specifically, of Trials, Task Forces, and Strike forces.
Oh, and some Eent content. Like the Valentines Day content currently in Pocket D. Need I remind you what the theme of Valentines Day IS ...?!?
[ QUOTE ]
One of the most famous superhero characters of all time is exactly the same--Batman. He wouldn't team with Superman, Aquaman, Flash and the rest of the JLA if he didn't have to (heck, he mostly does it to keep an eye onthem, kinda like Bush and the Patriot Act). He can go just fine on his own. And IF he chooses to have someone along, he'll call Robin or Nightwing before he asks for Green Lantern or Plastic Man.
[/ QUOTE ]
The JLA is more of a SuperGroup, than a team. And as for Robin? There's a reason it's Batman and Robin; the writers of that character have discovered that Batman-sans-Robin gets TOO DARK, and slips further and further away from being a HERO.
[ QUOTE ]
Needless to say I'm cranky because I'm overly tired, and I'm overly tired because I'm stuck waiting to recruit a villain at 5:30 am my time to shoot something I was literally standing on top of but wasn't allowed to touch.

Next time, try to read the mission description. -
Okay, you beat me to it slightly ... but MINE has an ! mark, so it's different enough ... ^_^ IMO anyway.
DOOOOOM! indeed ...!! -
Actually, I have hope that the Winter Event of this year may become a regular, annual occurrance. ^_^ So you never know, you may get a chance to get Toy Collector next December ...

Passport, I have it on live ...
1) What is the true intention of this badge. [The Pigg hackers have theories but we deserve the truth]
2) Since this a bug can I trade it for Isolator
[/ QUOTE ]
It's a bug that some players have Passport. They shouldn't expect to keep it.
It is a badge that was made in anticipation of Server Transfers. I don't know the schedule of when/if transfers are going to happen, and even if this badge will be given as part of the transfer anymore. Passport has been around a LONG time, and many things have changed in that time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Some folks will howl at me for that, but: please do not award it for undergoing a Server Transdfer. You'll only SWAMP yourselves with people asking to be transferred - solely and exclusively so they can have that badge!!! -

If there's a 500 present badge I'm gonna twitch and foam at the mouth on the floor
[/ QUOTE ]
200 is already an outrageous amount.
[/ QUOTE ]not really they tend to have very closely set spawn points and they respawn pretty fast, i know on peregrine isle there was a nice 5 present loop i did, by the time i opened the fifth the first had respawned, and i saw soem close points in atlas too, so its not a level thing
[/ QUOTE ]
Rian, the lower the level of the zone, the less-frequent those spawn points are.
On Mercy Island? I'd be surprised if there ere more than 5 or 10 in the whole zone (I'd guess Atlas and Galaxy are the same way). OTOH, in Siren's Call? From any one Present, I could almost always see at LEAST two or three others. Not flying, either. -
[ QUOTE ]
is it a team badge? (i.e. team gets credit for each present)
[/ QUOTE ]
READ the posts above yours. Some four posts above yours, I already answered this question. Sheesh. -
No problem; I and anotehr fellow in Port Oakes ran a very loose test - each of usin different zones, but teamed, collecting glowies as fast as we could. (I posted my 13-point route from that night elsewhere on this forum, in fact; with the Jingle Jet it's a reasonably easy run to make, and big enough that having others happen across two or three of 'em hardly even slows you down.) Sadly, neither of our glowie-clicks helped the other get the badge - and that is the ONLY "failing" I see, really, with the Toy Collector badge. Not only is it not pro-team, it's anti-teaming.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Anyone know if teaming helps?
Like forming up a 8 man team and scouring a zone? I know only the person collecting gets the good or bad, but does the count actually acrue for all members of the team?
Since the spawns are team sized, am hoping this is true.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, sadly, teaming doesn't help. To get the badge for a teamof eight, you'd have to (colelctively) tag one thousand and six hundred presents. -
[ QUOTE ]
How about splitting the load with a team mate? It appears that you only get the badge for packages you personally open. Any idea on that?
[/ QUOTE ]
Doesn't work, but it SHOULD. It'd truly make putting a Present-hunting team together EXTREMELY fun. And that, should any of the Devs be reading, is a mjor freaking hint!!! -
I am SOOO tempted; my one-main Villain character starshadow has an IMO compelling - if unhappy - story. Unfortunately, there are two obstacles:
[*] I'm not that good at writing narrative prose;
[*] I seriously doubt I could keep the story to a PG rating. PG-13 maybe, but ... well, it's not a pleasant story, no matter how one might try to whitewash things.
Bummer. Ah, well ... c'est la vie!
Arctic, might I presume to suggest an alternate theme, for a future month ...?
Characters. No, seriously; instead of entire origin stories ... just the characters, and a briefer summary of who they are, how they came to be heroes or villains, and what their goals are.
That sort of thing could be very useful as a resource for folks looking to run games of Eden's paper-and-pencil incarnation of COH, after all. A Rogues Gallery of villains, as well as possible Hero NPCs. And who knows, maybe one or another of those characters might be chosen for an appearance in the comic itself (hey, I can DREAM, can't I?).
...
On the element of rewards ... something minor, in-game, might be nice. What about a slightly-custom emote? Instead of reading a newspaper, the character who is the subject of a selected submission unlocks the ability to read, say ... an issue of the COH comic ...!!
Completely "window dressing", not game-balance-affecting (it's not even a badge or costume piece), but it'd still be neat ... and spark mild envy in folks like myself. -
Right.
I'm patched, logged into my villain, and ....
...
...
...
nothing.
Checked CAD ... nothing new.
Checked Mercy ... nothing new.
Checked PP ... nothign new.
...
...
...
So, um ... I heard rumors that there'd be, like, an event, today ...? If there is ... WHERE ...? -

As one of the newer, smaller SG's we have decided to simply bank the prestiege until this issue is resolved. We can't afford anything right now and quite frankly don't see the need for a "reception" room at all. No one will EVER come visit and all it amounts to is a tax.

My reasoning? Simply this: it's not who uses it, it's whoit was built for. The Batcave and the Fortress of Solitude were built for a specific hero, BY that hero, before they had allies/sidekicks/etc who might want to use the facility in question.
The Avengers' Mansion, Xavier's School, and the Watchtower were all built for multiple heroes at once. Not just capable of multiple at once, but built for an existing or planned group from Day 1. -
