  2. *attaches the cone of shame*

We ran out of stones, so this will have to do.
  3. So basically now it actually works like it should? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm upset, hurt even, that I can't fill the inspiration trays on thirty characters with the good inspirations before I even log into those characters for serious to do some missions.

    This is trivial.

What this DOES mean is the developers are probably playing around with the same tech that the fris- sorry, the "flying disc" uses.

You use the inner inspiration power, it gives you the inspirations and a buff (which I'd bet is technically "another power" [like the ones you get that are always on?], and that could later be used for something cool, instead of something that causes some players a trivial inconvenience.

  5. Party Kake's first law of Massively Multiplayer game development:

If you replace one instance of "Make them" with an instance of "let them," your game will improve.

as an example, in a random mmo you might get a quest to plant bombs in a specific area. planting them in an improper location results in the railroady "invalid target" message (an instant immersion breaker).
A better idea would be to "let" the player fail the mission by planting the bombs in the wrong location just to see what happens. True, you'd probably have to make it where their actions didn't affect continuity and they had to restart the mission to continue, but hey, sometimes letting the player plant bombs in bizarre locations is pretty cool. And they may have found a more effective location!

    That's mildly silly.

    Eco
A soon as you get the mission to go to Cimerora, you become a midnighter automagically, rendering the point moot.

Aside from the fact that the arc is trivially easy at level 10, you don't even have to do it if you choose to go through Dark Astoria instead.
  7. I can picture that meeting.

"What does a fast spinning staff sound like?"

"I dunno. Oh, hey, lemme go get some swivel chairs and we'll find out."

BLOW THEM AWAY! - An cone attack that causes everybody caught in it to be violently thrown back by your guitar solo.

KICK IT! - Similar to footstomp, only it creates a fault-line in the earth, shoots fire from the cracks, and causes demons on motorbikes to fly from the pits and attack your enemy. Knockdown in a burst and damage to a single targeted enemy. Probably a high-tier attack.

    And many, many more!
    Mastermind Primary: Groupies.

  9. Are you seriously complaining about having to do a level 10 mission chain?

God forbid you ever create a villain and have to wait until what, level THIRTY to get the badge and access to the zone?

Boo freakin hoo. this is incredibly trivial.

And it says Montague, not Ashley, so it's clearly the hero-side arc that's affected, not the redside one, which probably wasn't ever bugged to begin with.

There are lost in Kings row that are grey to you at level 11. they respawn regularly in the same handful of areas, and if the lost aren't there, you can simply aggro the skulls and run away and the mob will reset by the time you do a loop.

I was able to finish the entire chain on a level 10 mastermind just yesterday, leveling to 11 after the lady jane mission (which I didn't even have to WIN), in under 2 hours (for sure under 2 hours, probably closer to one, but I didn't even bother clocking it because it was trivial), solo.

Frankly... I would not miss that in most instances I can think of off-hand.
You're reading way too much into that.

Here's a few different ways in which the way those words are spoken (that is, no text changes) changes the meaning of the sentences completely.

    1. your character is from Texas (or probably other places nearby) where the word "guy" is most of the time gender-neutral, and you don't even care that you say "he" instead of the more proper "he or she". Twinshot, however, is particularly proud of the fact that one of her favorite idols talks to her regularly, and like a giddy schoolgirl on speed, (side note: newest character concept there lol) she takes the opportunity to point it out not to correct you but to bask in her own joy. Picture her sighing right after the word "she" and it becomes a bit more clear.

    2. Your character does not possess the godlike power to never say anything they do not mean, and simply accidentally said "he" when you knew who she was talking about to begin with. Twinshot, however, goes into full-on feminist tirade mode and before you can even roll your eyes at her assumption of you being sexist, she's already acting like a moron.

    3. Twinshot misheard you, either because you could have sworn you said "she" or you mumbled or maybe she heard you wrong over the sound of that carbomb nearby or perhaps the mugger stealing that young man's purse nearby is affecting her hearing. In any event she's more than eager to correct your "sexism" because she's the kind of person who would leap at the opportunity to correct you like that, for one of two reasons: she's in a good mood and loves to brag about the female superheroes of the city, or she's in a bad mood and you're "a sexist jerk."

Not a one of those multiple scenarios above assumes anything about your character. They are all very believable situations that revolve around how you assume Twinshot reacts to you.
  11. It will be hard to wait until staff fighting hits to play a stalker again. For the moment I'm playing around with all sorts of variant ideas for Darkness control/affinity/assault.

For all of you who are learning to enjoy your stalkers again, when staff fighting hits, you'll be swimming in pure joy.
  12. I snagged the name Cruelty with Animals for thermal/traps/poison and will probably end up going thermal from the advice others gave in that thread. Can't think of any more serious themes to go with, but using beasts to spread disease via /poison and blowing them up via /traps is almost as mean as setting them on fire all the time.

Perhaps it could become a group thing and someone could actually have a dire wolf on fire, infected, and running into a group to be detonated all at once. There should be a badge for that. hehe.
  13. Yeah I sorta agree with all that.

Hmm, I wonder if another set would work with the whole detonating thing.

Bah! Corporate Ninja was taken. That would have been hilarious. macro a combination of detonating a minion and saying "<minion name>, your services are no longer required." KABOOM.

knocking people off walls to their assumed demise has always been a favorite of mine in any game.

It frustrated me at first but I've grown to appreciate the fact that in this game, if you don't see the enemy die, they're not dead. Knocking a guy off a building will leave him at 1 hit point so that as you're finishing off his buddies he'll pop up behind you for a dramatic surprise.

Poison (I poison my wolves then send them out to infect my enemies)

Thermal (I set my pets on fire and send them out to attack my enemies)

or Traps (I wait until my pets have reached the enemy and then I detonate them)

I'm really on the fence as to which one's more villainous. But I have to choose one.

This might be good for a first-impressions experience, but it's murder for replayability. Why WOULD I replay the same story over and over again if it'll always be the exact same story? You can't "fill in the blanks" and craft your own experience because there are no blanks to fill. Everything has been filled in for you, and only ONE single experience is on offer. Where before you could craft different interpretations for different characters, now you go with whatever interpretation the story spells out for you...
It's funny you think of it this way.

I would compare a "traditional" novel to a choose your own adventure book same way I would a traditional city of heroes mission to one where you have lots of options and stuff and the outcome changes.

Yet there are still books to be written that people read over and over.

Biggest book series of all time? Harry Potter.
Biggest movie series of all time? Harry Potter.

And that's just a retelling of someone else's story from a specific person's point of view.

(My personal favorite? book 2 and movie 2. "Master has given Dobby a sock!" gets me every time.)

A single story, told from a specific point of view, told very well, beats the interactive story every time.

Doesn't matter if it's a videogame that railroads you along...
Or a movie where a lot of characters do things you wouldn't agree with "NO ***** NO DON'T OPEN THAT DOOR HE GON KILL YOU"...
Or a book where there are things that just don't jive with you...
Or a story told by your creepy uncle that never seems to go anywhere until it's finally dinnertime and he falls asleep mid-sentence...

If you let yourself get into the story, it's nice to give your brain a little bit of a rest and just go along for the ride.

So few games built right now actually make you feel like you're in control of the entire destiny of the story - maybe that's just me being aware of game mechanics enough that I can't be surprised by cheap tricks. Maybe it's because I'm just so much better at it than others. Oh well, I'll have my fun making stuff and unleashing it on the world in my own time and I'll see how people like it or not.

Honestly I think the newer storylines are FAR better than the blander stories that have come before. I find the interaction between my character and Dean MacArthur more interesting than that of (gasp) The Radio or (gasper) Television. Yes, the dialogue doesn't work very well if your character is supposed to be mute. Or a pirate. Or a Rikti. Or an awakened Vacuum cleaner that only speaks in VRRRRRRRMMMMMM. But whatever. a stretch of the imagination to make it work? Sold. Every time. If that's slightly more challenging, bring it. I got no problem making these stories work with all my characters. (including the one that will be remotely detonated if it communicates with anyone or anything in any language other than simple hand signals)

I was led to believe that at least Staffs would be in i22, because it is available in i22 Beta. Why would I think something on i22 Beta wouldn't go to live with the rest?

Staffs look compete, and not thrilled it's not a part of i22. As this point it;ll be left out until after Double Xp weekend.
Don't be upset, it's entirely possible that you just missed it, a lot of the mentioning was echoed word of mouth, like it is for a lot of things. For those of us who did hear it constantly it's a little frustrating to hear of someone who missed it completely despite all we heard.

It's also not something that would be that big a deal even once it hits live. You still get the awesome powerset same time everyone else does.

By the way staff fighting stalkers are freakin amazing. No seriously try one out (on beta if you can't wait!) you'll love it.

  24. I love that the day job badges make me feel like my action figure collection is getting stronger while it's collecting dust.

No, really, I think it's one of the coolest things they ever added to the game. I know a lot of people don't like it because it's "counterproductive to encourage you not to play" but I love it. It's like all my dolls are getting better and better all the time and the more there are, the happier they all get.

And I think I'm close to having all of the day job badges on at least one of them, which would be pretty epic, even considering the new one they add with DA.
