I just want to point out that none of these builds are actually soft-capped. They all have Phalanx Fighting set to count one ally in range for an extra defense buff. Drop the allies in range on Phalanx Fighting to zero and they are no longer capped.

Once per week 'regular' downtime on a Thursday on a trial basis, in part to avoid stealing Friday night gaming from out Oceanic players
bonus answer

Today will issue the loyalty program badges -
What happened to the normal Monday/Friday maintenance window? Servers are down this morning (Thursday) and there is no notice posted of downtime. Did I miss a change along the way somewhere?
And before someone says it, yes I know that everyday is technically reserved for server maintenance, not just the 'normal' days. -
How is this a player question?
Won't be long until this thread gets locked... -

Quote:Well, they did make the comment a few months ago when they deleted all the AE badges, that they were planning on adding more challenging badges...They didn't get the feedback that everyone hated the halloween event's difficulty and got madder about missing so many badges, etc on so many toons instead of happy for a new type of content
? Then of course the other fact that since the event will be so difficult, any toon below the perfect 5-0 won't get a team because they'd be dying and not damaging enough anyway, so lowbie toons will have an extremely hard time getting any holiday rewards.

Sounds pretty good, Stale. However, I'm a bit concerned that we might be over-complicating things. I think there is a large portion of new players that would be happy to have folks available to help them, but will shy away from anything that is too formal or complex.
Why not simplify things, and stick to having a mentor/student SG available for those that want to go that route, along with a global channel? Keep the mentor/student relationship informal. Drop any mention of 'contracts'. This way, students can feel free to access any of the mentors as a resource at any time, when they have questions or need help. -

Don't take this the wrong way, but if your goal is to get drops, running on a team of 8 is not the way to do it. Every time an enemy drops something, it goes randomly to one of the team members. So essentially, by trying to farm on a team of 8, you've cut your drop rate to 1/8th what it should be. On top of that, the level of the enemies has nothing to do with the % chance of drops. You would be much better off running solo, set for +0/x8, or even -1/x8, provided you have a build capable of handling that.

Quote:No, what I think is that there is a certain minority of people (yourself included) who love to cry doom at the drop of a hat, and in the pursuit of said doomcrying are more than happy to wildly exaggerate, speculate and offer opinions with very little basis in fact or reality. For every one post whining about the 'dead servers', there are 10 or 20 replies contradicting it.And for Panzerwaffen: Gee ya think peoples are just posting "Server empty" to mess with you? No they are posting it because this because it is true.
Or, to paraphrase your own statement: "Gee ya think peoples are just posting 'server populations are fine' to mess with you? No they are posting it because this because it is true."
There have been posts on this forum since I first started playing screaming & crying "the game is dying", "the servers are empty", "no one will play with me! wah, wah wah!"
You know what? I see no fewer players now, than I did 18 months ago, accounting for normal seasonal variations. Every time I pull up the team search screen, I look at the total number of players, and that number averages no more or less than it ever has, in my experience. There has never been a time when I have not been able to form a team or get involved in some type of activity when I wish to. -

Quote:The rep system lost all its entertainment value with the removal of the comments. Big thumbs down to this change..so where can we see our comments?
because that's the only entertaining aspect of it.
But I expected the whiners with their bruised egos would get it shut down eventually. Oh well. -

In essence, yes, there is nothing for a new player to learn from a farm. What precisely are you going to teach them? And more importantly, how are you going to do it without also PL'ing them? That is the crux of the problem.
I have no problem with farming. I have a heavily IO'd fire/rad troller built for it. I have two other toons built for solo speed running Posi for merits. I'd happily help a more inexperienced player with builds/advice/tactics/etc. for that type of activity if they expressed interest in such activities after learning the basics of the game.
What I am adamantly opposed to however is rapid PL'ing of players that are new to the game. There is no place for powerleveling in a concept like we are discussing here. -
Keep in mind, I was not suggesting anyone EVER tell another player "no, this is bad, you shouldn't do this." I simply don't want to see brand new players being PL'ed to 50 overnight, out of someone's misplaced idea of 'helping' them.

I'm definitely surprised that prices have not dropped much more sharply. I expected there to be some pent up demand that would take a bit to work itself out, but I think we're way past that point now, yet prices are still up there.

Quote:Good points. Plus the potential presence of heavily-IO'd 50's may give new players the wrong impression that IO'd builds are 'required' to enjoy the game.I think that 50s should not be brought in except as possibly the overlord. The presence of 50s would do several negative things. One would be the overpowered nature of malfactoring down a 50 on a lowbie team. Secondly it would make the temptation to power level too easy. In that line of thought the goals of this group need to be set. Is it to teach new players to play or to level them quickly? The two are not compatible in my eyes. I would hate for a "graduate" of this program be unable to adequately play because of PLing and not learning the game.
As far as the PL'ing issue, while I have no issues with players who PL, farm, etc., I'd like to suggest that any PL'ing of newbies be 100% prohibited for any mentors involved in this. -
Quote:Personally, I won't invite anyone to a team that advertises themselves as a "healer". Too many bad experiences, so I just avoid the potential headaches now.The reason people get irritated over "healer" is that, most of the time, the person advertising themselves as such is... well, a leech and/or not playing their character anywhere NEAR as well as they could.
Quote:a Rad/Rad corruptor. Who, it turns out, was a "healer." AOE heal aura, rez, AM... and that's it. No debuffs. Med pool, IIRC. And utterly useless for what we needed. -

Quote:Agreed. In fact, I think it's critical to the long-term success of a project like this to allow the students to stay on as members if they feel they've found a 'home' and want to stick around.Do we give them, in turn, the opportunity to help others while remaining in the group? Anyone who has done teaching or tutoring will know that you never learn as much about a topic as when you have to teach it to someone else.
