Why don't you post your current build and let us take a look at it? I run a number of blasters and haven't encountered any insurmountable endurance issues on any of them.

Quote:That....doesn't sound right, if you're running at x6 or x7. While I don't farm redside, one run of Battle Maiden blueside on my Fire/Rad set for +1/x8 drops between 10-15 IO recipes (both generic and set). I've never counted salvage, but it fills up so fast I have to start deleting commons after a couple runs.i usually run lib farm, even lvl set for 6 or 7 on my fire/rad corr. i normally do like 5-6 runs in a row, all solo. I can understand the randomness of the purples, but the reason i thought it might just be something wrong with my account, i know sounds ridiculous, is because in those 5-6 runs i usually get like 1-2 non recipie io's, 1 recipie IO, normally something like crap of the hunter, and then 3-4 pieces of common salvage, i don't keep up with the insps i get.

Quote:Ah yes.. The thread where after 34 pages or so, you still couldn't grasp the simple concept of why your poorly built Defender couldn't have the survivability and damage output of a Scrapper. Epic lulz abounded in that thread, for sure...The post you linked to is off topic, but I'll say this:
In essence, it was trying to tell me that what I actually saw happening with my own eyes didn't happen. That will always be an extraordiarily hard sell, no matter how much you all pat yourselves on the back for saying it.
It tried to tell me there had been no compaints that Defenders were weak solo (something which has been asserted in this thread by the same people that were telling me it isn't so). -
Quote:Of course, a normal player would simply take the examples given him or her on how to fix their issues with one build and be able to grasp the basic concepts and apply them to their other builds. In your case, however, you are not actually interested in doing anything to alleviate your issues, you just want to make wholesale, across-the-board changes to game mechanics because they don't fit your own skewed concept of what the game should allow, which is to turn all your characters into tankmages.Put another way, if it was just one or two builds, I could post them and it might be that the issue has to do with them. However, I'm not going to post hundreds of characters that are all having the same basic problem.
Quote:and I'm not going to go looking for builds from the many other people who have posted over the years complaining that endurance costs are excessive. -
Welcome back!
First off, and already mentioned by Agge, Paragon Wiki is a super helpful website for both basic and advanced game information.
Secondly, I'd recommend that you check out the Mentor Project. There are plenty of players involved in that program that are more than happy to help answer questions from new & returning players. -

Quote:Were those supposed 15K defeats when you were solo or teamed? Because if you're teamed then drops are split among the team randomly, so on a team of 8, those 15K are more like the equivalent of 1900 or so.I've been playing cov for a long time now, 50 month vet, and I'm still wondering about how the drop rate for purples, and pvp recipie's work.
I know you have to be killing lvl 50 baddies to get the purple drops, and i do, that's mostly all i kill, lvl 50+ but i don't get the same drop rate for purples as others. I do at least one ITF a week, and when i do someone on the team always gets a purple recipie, but never me. I heard someone say you get one every 12,000 kills or so, so I started counting. I got up over 15,000 without looting one, and i stopped counting there. i've probably killed more than twice as many since i stopped counting, and still nada. I have 12 lvl 50 toons, and since the invention of purples, i have looted 4, and all of those were near the begining of when they were first available. My wife, 40 month vet, has gotten 4 in the last 3 weeks. I have looted 1 pvp recipie since they came out, and again, that was near the begining of when they were available.
was just wondering if it's just me? am i doing something wrong, or have i just fallen through the cracks?
What do ya'll think?
Thanks,
Z
The best way to get purples is to defeat as many enemies as quickly as possible while solo. If you can munch minions and LT's quickly at 0/x8, you will maximize your chances of getting a purple drop. The drop rate number I've heard tossed around the most is about 1/1500 defeats. That's random though. It might take 3000 or more defeats to get a drop, or you might get 2 back-to-back. I got 3 purple drops on the same LGTF once. Other days I've spent hours farming at x8 with nothing. -
Quote:Good point. Didn't think about that aspect of it. This is a good example of why any change is unlikely to happen. It would open up a huge can of worms when it comes to game balance, and the current mechanic is not anywhere remotely near the problem some here are making it out to be.It would also make +recovery bonuses more effective because they work off of base recovery. Buffs like speed boost, drain psyche, and accelerate metabolism would do more for you too. This would in turn make stamina even less needed, and bring up overall performance of the already high end builds that are soloing +4/x8, AVs, and GMs.
-
Quote:It's not badly designed. Those are usually players who are slotted for extreme recharge max-DPS attack chains, taking Tough/Weave for extra survivability, etc. In other words, they're taking QR and Stamina, not because they have basic endurance issues and need it to get by, but because they are seeking a much greater level of performance. They're playing at high difficulty levels, or they're soloing AV's, or doing something else that requires that level of endurance recovery.(notice how most people with access to Quick Recovery still take Stamina! It's just that badly designed).
My Fire/Rad controller has perma-Accelerate Metabolism and has even more end recovery than a scrapper with QR and Stamina. I don't need that level of recovery to play just fine on normal settings though. I use that level of recovery to support the ability to play at +2 or +3/x8 solo. That doesn't mean the endurance mechanic is broken.
The only suggestion I've seen in this thread that makes any sense at all, is to increase the base recovery rate while simultaneously lowering the recovery rate of Stamina. That would keep the overall endurance recovery the same, which would not make lvl20+ characters any more powerful, while also reducing downtime at low levels. It would also move Stamina more into the realm of an optional power and open up some more build flexibility. It would, however, tend to increase the leveling rate from 1-20 even more than it already is. I'm not sure the devs would consider that a good thing. -

Quote:Honestly, I didn't pick that as a selective comparison. I simply picked AR/EM, since my main is an AR/EM Blaster.Selective comparisons under ideal conditions is where you, and others, go wrong in my opinion. It does not translate well into practical game experience.
Quote:Compare to Ice Blast, Sonic Blast, Psychic Blast, Electrical Blast or Energy Blast, how does your numbers fare then?
Quote:Another issue is the ability to make good on damage potential; Tankers are easily able to keep performing optimally in sustained combat and keep dealing damage long after the Blaster has faceplanted or withdrawn from combat.
Quote:Thanks for the informative reply though. My reaction was triggered by teaming with too many ubermench Shield/Elec Scrappers as of late that have put my alledged DPS monster (Fire/Elec Blaster) completely to shame. Shield Defense was introduced with issue 13 late 2008...did it really take the develpers more than two and a half years to discover Shield Charge being grossly overpowered and not working as intended? Pretty astounding if that's the case. -
Quote:Simple. Make every AT into a tankmage. Then there will be equality and Ultimo will be satisfied.*Boggles*
You want to give everyone more End. Please explain to me how that will balance your choice AT vrs another one... The blaster will STILL take down the mob using less endurance than the defender... so how is that equality? Now you are also willing to argue that blasters need more damage, so they will take down the mob using even LESS end than this defender of yours? You are confusing me. Please clarify. -

Quote:Don't waste your time.. Ultimo still hasn't been able to grasp why his Defender can't have the survivability and damage of a Scrapper. The concept of game balance is meaningless to him.I regret even reading this thread, but will make one comment anyways.
I bolded that last part because you are missing the point that has been repeatedly mentioned. It is not about equality, but BALANCE. They are not the same thing.
Defenders make others greater - like an emp def with the two auras, CM, Fort, and AB on a blaster. Just look at how powerful that blaster becomes. What is the balance to all that? The ability to solo, and one tool that can be used is END management on a defender. You can't make a change to defenders like you are suggesting without all the other ATs being impacted. In the end, the bar is raised for everyone and the same differences will still be there. -

Quote:Probably because several of us are already familiar with his posting history and simply have very little patience for more of the same silliness. What's with flaming the OP seriously, with things like "build better or such".
Quote:If we had a tracking tool able to compile all the builds posted on this board as guides or advices, and we looked at the percentage of them without stamina, I think it would be less than 5%.
I bet 95% of Blaster builds contain Aim & Build-Up. So, apparently Blasters don't do enough damage and their damage should be buffed.
I'll also wager that 95% of builds posted on the forum utilize Fly, Super Jump, Super Speed or Teleport. I can therefore conclude that base speeds are too low and need to be buffed across the board for all AT's.
And while I am sure it is less than 95%, I'll also wager that the majority of builds posted also use Hasten. Powers must take too long to recharge then. Guess we need to reduce recharge times on all powers as well.
Wow.. I'm getting pretty excited here. Let's do this! I'm eagerly looking forward to my new Blaster with lower endurance usage, more damage, no wasted power picks on travel powers, and perma-hasten from level 1. Sounds good to me! We'll also need to increase the difficulty options to +6/x16 to go along with this, of course...
Quote:And that doesnt mean either that the game would not be better and more enjoyable for everyone, especially new players, with a higher base endurance recovery, and maybe a bit less powerful and mandatory stamina. -
Quote:Not even close.1. Shield/SS Tankers still outdamage most Blaster AoE combinations or at the very least they come very close.
Tanker SC does base 133 damage at lvl 50 in its current form. Tanker Footstomp does base 63 damage at lvl 50. Add the buff from Rage and fully saturated AAO and we're up to approximately 325 & 154 damage respectively, before enhancements. Total unenhanced damage about 479.
Compare to an Assault Rifle/EM Blaster. Build-Up + Full-Auto alone comes in at 357, not all that far behind Shield Charge+Footstomp in a single attack. A full AOE chain of Build-Up, Flamethrower, Full-Auto, Buckshot brings it up to 712. That's about 50% more AOE damage output than the Shield/SS tanker. That's not even remotely "very close". And the blaster can continue to cycle through his multiple AOE attacks while the tanker is stuck waiting for Footstomp to recharge.
Let's also not forget target caps. Melee PbAOEs have a cap of 10 targets and Melee cones have a cap of only 5 targets. Ranged AOE's are capped at 16 and ranged cones are capped at 10. That's a heck of a lot more targets being hit.
Quote:I'm aware BaB has stated Shield Charge would be nerfed but I don't see the devs nerfing Shield Charge that much and risk offending the hordes of Shield using Brutes, Scrappers and Tankers.
As Castle stated here:
Quote:Shield Charge when released was set for a scale 1.7 damage to all targets within 20' of impact, with 0.7 scale bonus within 3' of impact. When the change to allow AT scaling was made, the bonus damage was rolled into the overall damage, for a scale of 2.4 to all targets in a 20' radius. At the same time, instead of have Brutes getting a mod of 0.75 applied, they were treated as the base.
So, instead of:
Brutes 3' scale 1.8, 20' scale 1.275
Tankers 3' scale 2.04, 20' 1.445
Scrappers 3' scale 2.7, 20' scale 1.9125
We get:
Brute 20' scale 2.4
Tanker 20' scale 2.712
Scrapper 20' scale 3.6
Quote:2. Isn't Lightning Rod even a greater offender though? That power alone is a mini-nuke that is as good as or better than anything in the Blaster arsenal. -
That he's a masochist that wants to keep on getting pwned in PvP?
-
Quote:There's a bit of an issue with using those two examples. Why waste 25-30 secs of DPS recovering from the crash when the Shield/SS Tanker or Elec/Shield Scrapper nuke every spawn instantly?
1: Shield/SS Tankers aren't nuking anything instantly. I've got one. They simply don't have enough damage output.
2: Shield Charge is overpowered and not working as intended per Castle, and is going to be nerfed. So that Elec/Shield Scrapper isn't going to be insta-nuking every spawn either anymore. -
Quote:That's pretty much par for the course with every thread Ultimo starts about game mechanics. He finds some aspect of the game that doesn't mesh with his own personal unrealistic vision of what his characters should be able to do, and rather than alter his own playstyle, or adapt to the situation, or learn new skills & tactics, he just whines about how it's "not fun" and the game should be changed to suit him.You have said a bit more than that mate. You said that if it isnt fun, they should change it. Alot of people here are saying, wait a sec, it is currently fun, we don't want to see them trivialize the game any more than it has been, we dont agree with you, and here is why _____. You respond back with "well, i dont think its fun blah blah current rant blah blah." So we give you many options to deal with that. That isnt enough, you want the devs to make the game easier for you under the guise of altruism, doing it for the little guy.
