Even if I leave the browser open and never touch the Back button it will regularly log me out before 8 hours have passed if there has been any inactivity at all.

The Remember Me button does absolutely nothing. Luckily, my browser will fill in my username and password for me at home. I obviously don't have this enabled at work due to security reasons.

There are also the random logout bugs.
If it's any help, I found that the login issues were fixed on boards.cityofheroes.com but not from using boards.coh.com. I was scratching my head over the claims that it was fixed until I switched URLs - I haven't had a logout problem since, and this is coming from someone with logout problems for about 5 years.
  2. I'm at work during most of these giveaways, but I'm glad to see them. As annoying as it can be to miss out on things I've a feeling the positive of gaining subscribers and begrudgingly monitoring the social media will wind up outweighing any harsh feelings and complaints. I don't see many (because there's always one..) cancelling over this or it pushing people over the edge.

It's also reassuring to know that these will be made available outside of Twitter. This can prove to be a good incentive to attend or even host events. Those looking to boost event attendance can ask to coordinate with the development team and award these codes to random or event winners.

I can see a lot of possibilities these valuable costume pieces open up, as long as it's not exclusive to twitter.
  3. Man, they just keep rolling out fantastic changes and updates one after another. The only thing that could make this critically improved is if they announced additional power picks for characters to make use of so many upcoming pool abilities.
  4. I'd be willing to sacrifice my current base if it meant they would bring back base updates. I can always rebuild, but at the moment all we have is all we're ever going to get. I don't like that.

I figured! Sadly I don't see them celebrating 4th of July - I don't remember them ever doing it before, and you know how the forums get when they see countries are celebrated. I'd love to be proven wrong though.
  6. If you're on Virtue there's probably going to be some sort of event.
  7. These updates look great. I imagine we'll see a lot more Really Hard Way attempts now that it's that much simpler to get the Hard Way if things go south.

Any chance we could get those Black Knight's armor pieces released to the public?
  8. You can be anything and be a team player, but it requires a little bit of abstract thinking. Taking provoke on your sturdy controller that has mez protection, picking up a revive teammate power and vengeance on your character that has a self revive themselves, etc. You don't have to completely sacrifice your character's strengths to support a team, either.

My favorite and main character is a team centered scrapper. He's got leadership, aid other, a hold and provoke, in addition to confront (and destinies at higher levels). He trades a little bit of damage for being able to expand to other side roles and support a team - he's tough enough to taunt groups of enemies, vengeance makes sure only one person on the team is KOed at a time, and if things get really harry he's got self revives to jump back up and help stabilize the situation.

If you can be a team player with a scrapper, you can be a team player with anything. But remember: being a team player does not mean carrying the team. It means helping support the team's needs in the current situation. All characters are generally sufficient enough that a team will not rely on a single person to be the difference between steam rolling and flatlining - it may happen, but it's very rare.

If it gives you perspective, I've had so much fun on my team based, Broadsword/Regeneration scrapper that it's kept me in the game for 8 years now. It's active and challenging. It also helps to have a great community like Virtue.

I'm with you no the more superhero content. But Dungeons and Dragons style Knights and Wizards haven't made much of an appearance yet IMO - I'd love a sincere Camelot/Western Fantasy zone with real D&D Knights, Wizards, Archers, etc., sometime around I29, instead of Dark Horrors Astoria, Rome, or others.

But before then? Moon Base/Space Zone, Underwater Zone, and maybe a full 2099 Bright Future zone. There's a lot of places left to go.
  10. I may watch this, just because I've seen the other two - Nearly walked out of the first one when in theaters (I made a huge mistake paying to see it..) and enjoyed the basic level of cheese in the second.

After seeing Detective Dee and the Phantom Flame on Netflix (see it, BTW) I'm seriously wondering what would happen if Western fantasy films were treated with the elegance and respect that such a well made Eastern fantasy film is. Something less gritty and more higher fantasy. It'd be a niche market, but I'd watch it (even if I was the only one).

    Hi all

    Welcome back!

I don't have a supergroup to offer, but you've got much to offer supergroups so you'll be in one in no time. Outside of that, consider rejoining Virtue's various channels and making great use of the friend feature - As someone who sticks with a duo SG, that's how I've been able to keep an eye on the RPing community when not doing trials, etc.
  12. If anything's gotten worse, I think it's the proof reading in some of the new traditional content that's been released recently. With so much content happening and being released so quickly compared to what happened before Freedom, quality control's had its hands full and have missed a few typos, awkward phrases, syntax errors, run on sentences..

Other than that, I can't think of anything that's worse off now than two years ago. There might be something, but frankly there's enough variety in quality shiny things since Freedom that I can't see it.

The range increase for tier 3s is huge and I will be highly appreciative of that, good move.

The snipe change is exactly what I wanted, but why require the +tohit? It seems odd that Stalkers simply got an AS that worked different in combat, why require Blasters to take additional powers, slot a Kismet, and use other powers in order to use the new Snipe? Seems like a great change, but the punitive measures that are taken in order for it to work weigh it down. If the devs intended this new attack to only be useable some of the time; why?

The secondary power changes for survivability I'm not sure about. I'll definitely test them as best I can as soon as possible, but I'm not seeing how this will increase Lightslinger's survival that much. Blasters are such a low HP AT we will not see the most benefit possible from Regen.

Overall I see these changes as benefiting other ATs MUCH more than they'll benefit Blasters. These changes will pull Blasters even further behind other ranged archetypes.

If this is Phase 1 of Blaster buffs, I'm very, very excited by these changes and look forward to what's coming next. Lets get some real Blaster focused buffs.

Unfortunately I've seen this dev team drop a lot of projects over the years and I fear Blasters may be the next project to go to the backburner, prove me wrong.
I'm just reading through this thread now and hit this post, but it's worth repeating - It seems silly that Blaster's snipe would require special enhancements, slotting, etc., to benefit from as a class change, when Stalker buffs were given out (correctly) without any prerequisites.

I'm hoping this isn't the end we'll see for boosting up our favorite paper cannons, and that those boosts aren't tied to any additional requirements. It's also a little silly to see these buffs ported over to other ATs already - Lets let blaster characters feel special for a little while at least.

Edited to add: This doesn't make me want to build a blaster any more than before. Given the Tyrant trial encounter, I'm inspired to take a Corrupter through the levels to carry both buffs and damage. But these changes don't really make the AT more appealing. I'm hoping there's more so I can get excited to roll a blaster alt at some point.

Maybe it's just a personal problem.

I'm getting further off topic, but I encourage you to reconsider not leading a league. Your sense of humor and good nature can cover up mechanic ignorance, as long as you continue to have some common sense. Power gamers enjoy funny comments and silliness, too! I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I'd rather have a talkative, engaging league with some bumps than a stone silent league that succeeds without any problems.

Those people who are jerks are sadly not limited to Incarnate content - Just look at the forums, where snark and personal jabs at others are often interjected into discussions. It's part of human culture, despite our best efforts to encourage respect.

    Quote:
If a newbie attacks Anti-Matter early they will get jumped by the rest of their team, that never used to happen.
Folks still get called out for attacking an AV, a spawn, etc., before the team's ready. An example might be jumping into the mobs during the Lord Recluse or Statesman task force before Incarnates made everyone capable of recovering from a bad pull. People who don't work with the team and get called on it isn't unique to Trials - There's just more AV, "Big Boss" encounters in Trials than other content, so the situation of not working with the team in situation where that can make a difference happens more often.

And I still don't fully understand some timed phases of Keyes so could run out of time there without a leader and/or a few people who do know what to do. Then there are always people who always make comments like 'If you don't know what to do with temp power A pass it along' which helps nobody, and 'why aren't you throwing that grenade at Marauder you noob'.
In situations like the STF or the Abandoned Sewers trial, where you have specific actions you need to take (Taking down the towers before fighting, defeating the generators then using the Special Weapons on the Hydra Head) those same situations can happen. Having rude teammates complaining about not following or even knowing a strategy isn't unique to Incarnate content.

Mind you, I actively discourage that kind of behavior (and kick myself when I don't come down on it hard enough in leagues) - But it's not something that's new to City of Heroes.
  16. Trials aren't so complicated that you can't learn as you go. They're as friendly to first timers than things like the Abandoned Sewers Trial or the ITF was back when it first came out, let alone the STF or the LRSF - that is, there's objectives beyond point and smash, or opportunities to supplement the pointing and button mashing that goes on in order to make the encounter easier. I don't see where it is a fundamental break from established CoH content, except in the size of the leagues.

Right now I'm not sure if she just has an absurdly powerful PBAoE she spams and we just didn't have a Barrier up or if there was something else I missed. We didn't struggle against the other AVs so I was hella surprised at such a quick defeat on the last phase.
In the last phase she has a pulse that deals significant damage, as well as a confuse that can affect a few players. If players aren't paying attention to the game when they fire their AoE powers they can hurt other people, which can lead to significant damage.

    3. Now that you asked who needs help, did you research the trial first so you can help them? Yes it helps to know what you are doing.

    4. Be clear up front what each phase entails, and also give reminders as the trial progresses. Don't expect people to remember everything you talked about in the beginning, but don't expect folks to adjust if you spring new information on them at the last minute.

    5. Be polite, fair and complimentary. You'll get a better response than if you are bossy or insulting. Remember that typing doesn't convey emotion or tone, so watch carefully what you type. I find it's best to use full and correct English as shortening the language or "l33t sp34k" can come across as flippant, rude or ignorant.
This deserves to be in someone's sig, or in its own thread as a go-to guide for leading a trial. Most of the items you'll need to succeed are there - and the explanation of the importance of previewing and reviewing information (Tip #4) is a very good catch.

In general, the only other thing I would add is that you should accept the responsibility of leadership if you take the reins. Don't rely on others to make the decisions of what you're doing for you, but do check if someone needs something specific done. Take the initiative to deescalate any conflict or drama as it begins, to avoid messy problems down the line - Even if something happens to make yourself upset, don't let feelings or irritability compromise your leadership.

I don't think I know a single homosexual male friend of mine who wants the Carnie Thigh-High Boots. I think what quite a few people would do is go for the transvestite route, and lead to even more displays of blatant 'trolling'. I am all for equality, however, but some things need to be considered from other point of views.

Again, how many men would wear the Carnie Thigh-High Boots, the Steampunk Bodices, and such blatantly oversexualized items for legitimate use, and not just to 'troll'?
I'm really quite focused on the neutral pieces, and the female pieces without masculine counterparts. Sashes, Carnival Masks, Circlets, Crowns, the Princess Hat, Shoulder Pets. Hats and masks are easier to spot as not having male-character counterparts than delving into the creator and noting the additional options of "version 2" that female characters have in designs versus male characters.

I'm with you that most male characters wouldn't go the full road and wear dresses, fishnets, etc - how many mesh wearing heroes do you see (with the exception of those emulating a chainmail look?) But there are some stark neutral sections missing from the male's wardrobe that only seem to be growing as more sets are invented.

That's enough derailment of this fine thread from me, though - I'll be reading your reply and then bowing out of the thread except to discuss the great costuming work Dink has done. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

If they add the boots without adding the missing male SciFi pieces, it will make one thing clear: those of us who want more parts for our male characters will need to get more vocal and organized in our efforts for (close to) equivalent costume pieces. Even after the Carnival of Light packs, Sashes, Imperial Crowns, and more have been locked from male characters while one sided developments towards female options continue, things have been pretty mellow.

Personally, I'd like to see a system where you can choose an "@accountname" name, or go without and use the more limited pool, knowing your name will be unique. Everybody wins!
If they could manage both, I'd be for it. Names, simple and iconic can help people connect and grow into die-hard fans of the game, even at this stage. If that can help support people connecting with the character and the community then it's worth checking out, in my opinion.
  21. I'm looking forward to buying this pack later tonight. I'm sure some of them can be tweaked to go with chainmail, then whip up a retro "Space Knights from Mars!" look.

Edited to remove some unnecessary comments.
  22. I haven't been successful on a Really Hard Way run yet, but I like to instruct melee to run [i]backwards[i] from Tyrant when the warning comes. There's enough time for players who aren't queueing attacks to step backwards. If we're all facing him this leaves his back exposed where we can regroup to take him down.

Maybe have it an enclosed garden, like the kind you see on one of Atlas' rooftops? It would give it an enclosed feel but people would still be able to come in and out, examine the place, roleplay if they're into that sort of thing, etc.

It would be nice to get M1's statue in Blyde Square replaced, though. And a little bit funny to have giant Statesman looming over Positron's back.
