You do know, these aren't cheap, right? Anything worth having tends not to be cheap in the 25-33 range.
-
I have something similiar, but my ranged defense is above 50 when I pop link minds.
Catch is, even this kind of defense leaves you kind of sketchy in DA against +2s. Normal content is highly trivial, but DA content can be really rough, depending on the enemies. -
Quote:Ping inside the hull, not a radar ping. Literally, the sub is pinging as it decompresses at each atmo (thats why 33 feet).Yeah, yeah, I know. And I'd end up blowing off airships/flying Nemesis invasion cities/etc. even with all the problems for that reason.
But the brass sub "sneaking up" and pinging every 33 feet just kind of... it just doesn't *work* for me. I mean, c'mon, we've got people who argued what model of destroyer the ones introduced with Sutter were. Some things just kind of end up really, really *jarring* (and they're different things for different people - this just happened to hit me that way.) -
Quote:I disagree. If it is something that a legitimate abuse they are trying to curb, then yeah. I would fully support a resolution to the mess we are in.They don't like how it's working. They don't need a better reason than that. It's their game.
<b>But if there is no legitimate abuse they are trying to curb that they can announce to the population</b>, then I will NEVER buy another SBE again. EVER. In fact it leaves such a sour taste in my mouth that I think the ONLY thing I would buy ever again would be powersets. MAYBE.
This is beyond rediculous. I expect such treatment from disgruntled McDonalds employees. Not from a company I had respect for for a long time. -
I agree with a lot of the sentiment in this thread.
Bait and (mostly?) switch.
Explain clearly why the old style is abusable. WHY is this change necessary. You hinted at there being an abuse related reason behind this push. Put it out there and tell us all.
You have people spending real money on things, and you are being neither open nor honest with the player base.
What is wrong with the old way of doing things? If you are going to throw out hints, put it on the table. -
This seems reasonable. Given that you are doubling the number of times you are attacking at 100% rech, you are twice as likely to get a proc. At 70%, this means you have a better chance of procing 2 times in 15 seconds, and an absolute chance of procing at least once in 15 seconds. Factor in global recharge, and this is pretty dang reasonable.
Quote:Okay, here's what I've come up with. The differences are FAR less dramatic than my first proposal:
1) Increase the PPM value by 20-25% (So a 4 PPM proc would become 5ish PPM) NOTE: The exact amount is still being figured out.
2) Replace the Base Recharge used by the PPM formula to only take into recharge enhancements affecting that power. This means recharge boosts from powers like Speed Boost, Hasten, Chrono Shift and Global Recharge from Enhancement effects like Luck of the Gambler's: +Def/+Global Rech 7.5% are not factored in.
3) Procs will have a maximum chance to trigger. I'm leaning toward 90-95%. There will be a minimum chance to proc equal to 5 plus 1.5 per PPM. Only the most extreme instances of very low recharge, cast time and area factor will cause this to occur.
4) All non-PPM enhancements with a chance to trigger less than 100% will use PPMs. (Note: Enhancements like Numina's Convalesence: Regen/Recovery will not be affected by this change as they have 100% chance to trigger).
5) The formula will treat Area Factor differently. Instead of simply using the flat Area Factor of the power, it will use 1 plus 75% of the difference between 1 and its actual AF. I think I heard a couple of you say "Huh?" Let me give you an example and then explain why.
Let's take a look at Dark Regeneration shall we? It has an Area Factor of 4, base recharge of 30 seconds and cast time of 1.17s. Using current PPMs with Essence Theft (3PPMs) it has a 39% chance to proc per target.
With the new formula we'll treat area factor as being slightly smaller than it is now. So the new formula would treat this Area Factor as 3.25. (1+(.75*(Actual Area Factor-1)). The simple version is: Area Factor will have a smaller impact on proc chance reduction.
Okay, now onto the example. Let's use Assassin's Strike slotted with Stalker's Guile: +Rech/Chance to Hide (Standard):
CURRENT PPMs
Assassin Strike
Base Recharge: 15 seconds
Cast Time: 1 second
Area Factor: 1
Stalker's Guile: +Rech/Chance to Hide
PPM: 4
Proc Chance: 106.7%
PROPOSED PPMs
Assassin Strike
Base Recharge: 15
Cast Time: 1 second
Area Factor
Stalker's Guile: +Rech/Chance to Hide
PPM: 5
0% Power Recharge
Proc Chance: 90%
33% Power Recharge
Proc Chance: 90%
66% Power Recharge
Proc Chance: 83.6%
100% Power Recharge
Proc Chance: 70.8%
Superior Stalker's Guile: +Rech/Chance to Hide
0% Power Recharge
Proc Chance: 90%
33% Power Recharge
Proc Chance: 90%
66% Power Recharge
Proc Chance: 90%
100% Power Recharge
Proc Chance: 88.5%
PPM: The above values are assuming we apply a 25% bonus to existing PPMs.
Now the why...
As many of you have mentioned it seems odd to penalize players' proc chances for strengthening their builds with global recharge. So, only recharge modification from enhancements and enhancement-like effects (like Alpha Slot effects) will modify proc chance. We also realized, after looking at a great number of affected powers, that we were over penalizing AoE powers with PPMs. So, we've lightened the impact Area Factor has on the formula.
Thanks for all the great feedback and really making me look for creative, but appropriate ways to solve this problem.
Thoughts?

Instead of crying fire, how about some patience? Nothing has been changed, nothing has been altered. And it was already indicated that they are going back to the drawing board on the issue. -
Quote:That is most excellent! I am definitely going with the suggested Agility. I will probably boost my enhs too so I can get 55 ios instead of 50s. Thanks! If you're a Tanker, possibly. On anything else, no.
EDIT:
T4 Incarnates might push you higher, but still do not think its doable.
EDIT: I stand corrected, if mids is right,
I can get to 44.1 / 44.1 / 47.3% with 3 level 50 IOs on every SR armor, Combat Jumping, Maneuvers, and an Agility Core Paragon.
Without Incarnate power I'm at 40.5 / 40.5 / 43.4%
Hide suppression taken into account (I think I modified it right in Mids) -
Title says it all. Just sayin. Not like there is something I want to get or anything. At all.

All, I am looking at a stj/sr/body stalker, and could use some advice.
I have 5 slots of the ATO set in sweeping cross, and am level 18?. Just got spinning strike.
I would like some help building a non-hasten, generic ios only build, with no weave/tough/boxing. I understand that it is possible to get softcap without weave on just generic IOs. I want to use generics because they are relatively affordable and I can just buy the whole dang set if I wanted to. I am not adverse to using the 2 3% defs (already have both slotted), and if there is one or two particularly useful set IOs I might slot them. By and large however, I want to keep this as absolutely generic as possible. I would use generic SOs, but it just drives me insane having to rebuy the whole way to 50.
If you post a Mids, can you please post the extended version? I am on a linux box and can't run Mids. Thanks! -
She needs less happy smile face (eyeballs make her look like shes smiling and face looks like shes got the huge smile face).

I will certainly buy this the minute it comes out. I liked the celestial backpack. Thats way cool. But.... I didnt want to blow a token on just that. However there is nothing I dont want in this fantastic set.
I will DEFINITELY have a beam giganto-sword for my tw. -
Whoa whoa whoa, hold on a minute there.
I have the latest drivers for my Nvidia card.
I have the latest patches for my OS (vista 64bit professional)
______
<b>I have had multiple recurring crashes sitting in a mission with my face pointed at the wall and all the other players deep in the mission on a different floor. </b>
-----------
The errors are always 2 types:
"Connection timeout to video card" <- I get dumped out of COH instantly
Crash <- I get dumped out of COH (maybe) after several seconds (5-10) wait.
I know unequivically that this started 2 months ago. Previous to this I crashed maybe once every month. 2 months ago, this became an extremely often occurance.
I have had situations where solo I repeat crash, sitting at the ah window in the middle of nowhere.
I have had situations where I have crashed in excess of 10 times in 15 minutes. This was a _horrid_ experience. Of those 10, 8 were "timeout to video card".
The timeout error is aparently so widespread, there is an official page with a "fix" for it, which _does not work_.
I would like to know what happened 2 months ago that has caused this issue. The _only_ thing installed on my computer is Firefox, Java, COH, and the Nvidia control panel. (I use a Linux machine for everything I do).
I have sent numerous coredumps to the COH destination, but never recieved any response.
edit: Before anyone asks, I have turned my settings to absolute bare minimum, and it has never made a difference. I had no problems previously, have never changed anything, so why now? -
Quote:Er...Put your 4 pieces of Soulbound or Expedient in there, then put the Glimpse: Chance for Psi in the 5th slot? You're allowed to mix and match, and there's no reason to ever slot more than 4 pieces of Soulbound.
6 pieces expedient. 3.13 ranged def + the rech.
4 pieces call, + the other two def/res procs.
I have posted about this elsewhere. You can have softcap pets with ~40% res to s/l and more than that for neg, and some decent res/def for the haunts. If you are going to perma-haunt, this is a SIGNIFICANT amount of damage that gets put out constantly.
It is enough that slotted this way with haunt perma, you can do as much as, or even more than fire imps as a controller, and flat out the most damage over time than any other dom pet, with highly resilliant pets to boot. -
I do not use subdue at all in my attack chain. It simply does not lend itself to mass aoe damage. Chainfences + stacked interface does vastly more damage across a huge area compared to overkill on just 1 mob. If you play a dom at range, I could see its use. At melee range, there are far better options all around.
-
Why would you slot this in there? TBH, I can see only 1 valid way to slot haunt/umbral as a pair, and it in no way involves glimpse.
-
Quote:Well, 12% is way better than 7.5.It won't be directly double the number of that damage. Scrapper set critical strike says 3.5 damage but supeior scrapper strike only give %4 damage. My best bet is it is same for SoA one and it will give %3 or %4 damage tops for purple set.
EDIT: Just checked superior spiders bite it gives %4 damage bonus. -
-
I have a question about spiders bite.
Are these the catalyzed versions we are looking at on page 1? If not...
Spiders bite would provide 5%? damage for each 2 slotted. 3 2 slot sets of catalyzed is 15% damage, plus the damage on every attack, worth probably another 1 or 2%. So you are looking at up to 20% extra damage possibly. +Musculature, you could have 65% damage _all the time_ at 50, before additional buffs from set bonuses. It seems conceivable that between spiders bite, musculature, and other things, you could have a full 100% damage bonus, for a walking bonus of 300% damage to all attacks. That is INSANE.
Of course if its just 2.25%, well, thats not as spectacular.
Like wise, 2.25, if not catalyzed, may be as much 6.5% max hps. On something like a tanker-crab, that could be significat, especially stacked with serum....
edit: At the very least, 2 3 setted would give you 4.5% max hps and 5% damage, which when musculatured would give you 50% + set bonuses. I guess thats not TOO bad... -
Not everyone has any experience with the set from beta. While some people are of the "want moar nao" persuasion, it's nice to have a formal response from the devs. Gives good indication it will be out soon, since this communication to the public has been missing for some time.

Quote:Wow, this is interesting. I have totally missed this, because I have been running niches that dont involve anything purple or pvp. Very interesting. I guess I cant afford purples on market anymore....It's been impossible to buy a purple for under 100m basically since converters came out. They were >50m (all of them, including the bad ones) for months before converters because of people stocking up.
200-300m is more realistic. I think I have ~150m bids on every "bad" purple and haven't gotten a single bid filled in days, even a week. With converters now FAR more accessible, there's no reason to think we're ever going back. ANY purple you get for 200m is now probably more or less a good deal.
PvP IOs are more mysterious. All the prices have spiked massively across the board. There's no way it was worth converting to Gladiator's Armor 3%s prior to today. I suppose someone was doing it, but it was a huge waste of converters, since converting a Gladiator's Net to a Glad Armor 3% required ~20-21 converters for a ~200m profit, or 10m per converter, and purples were good for 3-5x that. And ironically, the "desirable" pvp ios are actually now oversupplied and underpriced, in a sense. I think I sold a non-proc Panacea for >300m; more than a Glad Armor proc would go for. -

Retoggling after a death is trivial at 50, and reasonably trivial before 50. At 50, res, pop barrier (res at least 1 other person while you are at it), toggle defense granting powers first, toggle resists second. Trivial.
If you are toggling your defense powers second, you should expect to die then. -
This.

Thank you all for the help! In the end, I decided on a few things:
I am keeping spin and muling it for an erad set.
I am keeping dart burst because its recharge is so awesome I can continuously fling darts when other better powers are down.
I will go with hoverblasting.
I am not slotting the +2 holds in dominate. I originally thought it would be good, but, in the end I am opting for 3 pieces tstrike, and 2 perioxisomes or whatever. MOAR DAMAGE! Plus, the enhanced mez from the hamios will be nice. I may however, run 2 hamios and 4 basilisks. This puts me at just 66% damage at 50 and down, but... 7.5% rech and 1.25 or something ranged def. Unfortunately I can't boost the hamios, and that is really where I want to max out with 95% damage...
I took up tough, and it seems to help even unslotted. I may take weave too.
At 42, with just generics, I am doing pretty good at 1/1. This may not sound like an accheivement, but I was getting roughed up before pretty bad. Once I get some sets in there I think upping the difficulty seems reasonable. I cant wait to finish this damn patron arc and getting gloom/oblit.
