How about doing something like happens with Domination? i.e., you hit Max Fury, and a big old FURY!!! logo pops up, ....
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd love to see something like that. I was always kinda jelous to see all the "DOMINATION" pop over stuff. I'd love to see some sort of thing that hits when a certain amount of burst damge hits you when you're near your damage cap, "FURY" goes over your head, and every enemy you defeat while under the effect (5-10sec) has "SMASHED" appear over their head. -
I didnt get Bling until 31, but I've had SG mode on constantly since level 10. It seems the only way possible to get it before 30 is to either take off SG at 25 as suggested, or do a ton of RSK.
Archmage Tarixus was changed this last patch to require the history badge (only one active at the moment) instead of the CoT, so it's incredibly easier to unlock him now. -
Personally I'd love to see the game take on more depth. It's made great strides in the past year, the escorts, zone events, etc. I've been trying to determine what it was about WoW that kept me attatched to it for so long, versus my quick burnout with CoH. Collectible drops I think played some part, in which case the Base/Salvage idea was a great addition as well. The other part was that a lot of the quests in WoW don't involve personal missions. Now, I'm not even going to ask to change the way missions work. Having personalized missions for each person prevent a lot of potential conflict, allows scaleable things, and is a great core quality. However having some missions that involve simply running hither and thro from place to place (preferably after level 14), interacting with various objects and what not, to progress a story, would be great.
As it is, every single mission I do will involve me going inside a mission door. There are are some rare exceptions. The PvP "zone" missions, and the patrol paths are the only 2 I can think of at the moment. The generic "Kill X of Y mobs" are the other, but they have their place.
I would find it somewhat more interesting to have to find an object in a lower level zone, perhaps it's an object I've seen very frequently, but up until the game did not allow me to interact with it.
Anyways, there's my thoughts =) -
Didn't read the whole thread, forgive me if I repeat something.
There should be either some emotes, or ultimatly, the ability to choose your death animation. So instead of just simply going 'flop' on the pavement, you could have:
1) drop to one knee, gasp, fall on your back with one hand stretched skyward, the arm shakes momentairly as the villan gasps 'i was soooo cloooosseee....' and the arm falls
2) huge backwards arch as if struck from behind and a slow fall to the knees, the arms come up in a shock/suprised position (kinda like flex1), then falls backward facing up
3) villain grabs his chest, staggers back and forth a few paces, gives a long scream of rage, places his arms in front of his face with elbows bent so his hands go over the top of his head, drops down into a fetal position on the ground
4) even cooler : villain stands in the eagle position with arms and legs spread, and screams in rage as his body begins to shake, and then explodes in a cloud of smoke/liquid/electricity/whatever -
Your assumption is correct. All the NPCs/players/FX on cityofvillans.com are extracted by a PHP script and databased. So if someone hasn't recorded a demo of a certain AV or monster, we don't have it.
We do periodicly sift through the NPCs and catagorize them according to villain group, that usually helps a little when searching for a specific type. -
The mob spawning is definatly awry in that zone. Any other place, I would attribute it to travelling to fast (SS, SJ, etc). But any character in that zone is usuing sprint, and possibly swift, which is more than slow enough for the server to generate mobs before they enter visual range.

Bumping because it's a nice and friendly FYI guide.

The Gamma Ray beam might be quite effective in excising any malignant tumours. Unfortunately, it often excises city blocks as well. So some tuning of the ability might be needed. Any test subject volunteers will be paid generously. Or their heirs.

ROFL
Yes, Geko industries has been under scrutiny for years, several of their most popular products have had serious defects that have cost numerous lives. This goes back as far as the OU device, which was initially far more powerful than the specs declared it to be, which caused many users to lose their lives a blast of green fire from the sky. We would also like to remind the populace of the 'incident' involving an improperly adjusted Transium Chainsaw that resulted in the death of at least one prestigeous member of the Great Lords.
PS : 10k influence to the person that understands that reference and contacts me first.

I wasn't aware of any serious problems with Mozilla, but I'll look into it. It is unfortunatly not high on our priority list, due to the fact our web stats indicate less than 10% of you use Mozilla.
This IS however, higher than Netscape users, which account for about 1% -
<shameless plug>
There's an enourmous and growing list of NPCs, Player configs, FX, and MOV available at http://www.cityofvillans.com which is very handy for swapping out commands in your demo file.
</shameless plug> -
You cant. And that's all there is to it. The demo is a VERY simple text file that only makes some sense to us, and only CoH's graphics engine can do anything with it. You cannot convert it to video, audio, MP3, quicktime, divx, VHS, DVD, or anything else.
Sorry if that sounded crass, but a lot of people thing that a demo is some sort of special movie you can convert to a windows AVI.
There are ways to capture demo footage while it is playing and make a movie out of THAT, and in fact several people have done so.

Playback commands:
These commands all run from the command line when you start the game. So you would (for instance) make a shortcut to cityofheroes.exe and add these to the ‘target’
-demoplay <demoname>
plays back the demo. Loops forever, writing performance data to cityofheroes/client_demos/results/demo_name. (It has min, max, avg and time for each frame)
-demopause <msecs>
This is for videocard performance debug. Runs until it gets the the frame given (in milliseconds) then redraws that frame forever.
-demodump
Dumps a .tga file of each frame rendered to client_demos/screens/<demoname>/*.tga
-demofps <frames per second>
Forces the player to simulate a fixed frame per second. This works well with demodump to get a smooth movie.
-fullscreen
Put game in fullscreen mode (overrides the registry key)
-screen <xsize> <ysize>
Set the screensize. Ex: -screen 1024 768

Yup, every time someone submits a demo file do the system, it parses it, extracts players, npcs, and FX. So the more demos that get uploaded, the more complete the database gets.
Indoor missions are especially nice, as they arent as prone to crash, and they often contain NPCs that aren't accessible anywhre else. IE Skyraider Jumpbots and Engineers, Archvillains, etc. -
I have a program that currently outputs a demo file that displays all the powers in a selected set at 10sec intervals, with various adjustments in timing available. It also crashes the game when you try and play it, for as-yet undetermined reasons.
This is all in PHP btw. If you want to write one of your own, please be my guest, as mine is nothing extrordinary yet. I would love to see the program if you do one, and would be more than happy to host it for you.
I had intended to eventually create the ability to script out entire sequences, including camera movements, NPC animations, etc etc. -
I'm not sure if it's just because I'm using demos from other computers, but have you noticed an increase in stability when playing back files now? I got several files to not only load, but cycle, where before the 7/7 patch all demos would crash once they reached the end of the file.

A program to make global edits might be interesting.
...
A power demo is another thing in the neat but tedius section. Take two heroes and put a couple of simple MOBs in front of them. Do this in a good sized room, maybe something from the CoT city.

*cough*
In progress!
Rather tedious though, as my "job" tends to interfere with my progress almost as much as this silly game. -
yes... i said that
Referring to the majority of player emotes I mean, you can't get most NPCs to do them.
Oh, and I think the 'soap box' used by the lost is a seperate entity, cuz it often stays in the area for awhile even if the villains have been defeated, however they are not ALWAYS in that same location. -
Sorry, can't find the stunt doubles anywhere in the video.

You may also find this imformative :
Demofile Archive
http://www.cityofvillans.com/educate.php?type=fx
Note that not all the names of the FX are correct. The names are extracted with a script, and named by their corresponding FX file. Cetain things may be difficult to find unless you know what you're looking for. Example : the FX for Lightning Field is named CHAINLIGHTNING2.
As for the above-mentioned MOV files, yes, every object has a READY movement.
Unfortunatly, nothing else has the ability to emote anything other than a threat, wave fist, or cheer, so you cant get a row of fire monkeys doing jumping jacks. Believe me, I've tried.
There are still a number of things missing from the database. More will get added as I accumulate demofiles from various zones with more high-level content.
If you have a demo of a fight with an Archvillain, or any other rare character please submit it! -
While I've long hated the power of the sorcerers/shamans hurricane, I also respect it's power and give it a wide bearth. My 20 earth/storm controller hasen't taken it yet, as her other powers have a wide enough variety of control that she dosent need it yet, though I will definatly take it at some point. Right now I chose to get air superiority, to be able to deal some damage when necessary, and knock tsoo spirits out of the air.
I've seen tornado only once, by a lvl 40 player, and agree that it seems very unimpressive visually. It's basicly a grey version of the super speed whirlwind.
I would LOVE to see it ramped up with clould particles in a much taller funnel, with debrie spraying in a huge clould from the bottom, and perhaps a very minor ground shaking effect. As it is, I would expect minions to turn and laugh, rather than run in fear. -
I find it amusing that several of the prisoners in Brickstown have shouted "TODO: Add Text!" as I was flying over. Apparently someone is slacking.
I also recgognized several names of prisoners as names of Devs.
I also almost died laughing when a clockwork named boss at the end of a door mission yelled at me "I hate you Mjolnis!". Most hilarious thing I've ever heard a robot say.
