    2. 1 with Alpha unlocked only, 1 with T3 Alpha, Judgement, Interface, 2 with T3 Alpha only, 2 with common Alpha.

I almost always run full screen and that was something I didn't think of changing.

So far CoH has been the outlier in fan utilization. If everything was causing the fans to go full bore I'd have been on the line with Apple right away. It's handled Handbrake encodes without breaking a sweat but that is probably bottle necked by the USB DVD drive.

If you'd bother to read instead of frothing at the mention of Apple you'll see I blamed Transgaming in the first post, you started it. In case you forgot:

Most laptops are simply NOT equipped to deal with the load many games (especially OGL games) can put on a system. As such, they heat up and trigger the fans.

MBPs are going to be ESPECIALLY prone to this as they're extremely thin and have very little room to facilitate air movement.

This is what happens on occasion when form triumphs over function.
  4. For future proofing they should be a native 58 with inherent Incarnate nullifying auras.

    Duh.

So what about your point that gaming on a MBP will always require active cooling due to poor design over taking function? Now I need to run things that are intentionally processor intensive to prove you right?

It can run D3 and WoW on 2880x1800 without needing the fans.

CoH is the only game to bring them up beyond an inaudible level and it winds them up even when just sitting on the login screen.
  7. I doubt it counts heals that are completely overheals as participation.

With Fortitude, Adrenaline Boost, and Regeneration aura up on your teammate even a suicidal blaster on SOs only shouldn't require much attention.

Is your one attack slotted with just one recharge? One accuracy SO is good for same level enemies most of the time, two should cover you for a few levels above you and with defender grade tactics you shouldn't have much of a problem with anything short of a Rikti drone or a god mode.

I wish there was a non-incarnate mode or Alpha only mode for TFs that can be run at 45+. Though no one else would use it and it can be simulated by not running TFs that exemplar above 44.

Of course I also wished that the Alpha system was expanded to cover all slots so there'd be some other way than Heather Heather Heather ... for someone who loathes raiding. So it's T3 Alpha and done for me.

I like my mobs with just a slight hint of trivialization, it doesn't much of that spice to completely overpower the flavor, which is why I don't see much of a point beyond Alpha personally.

    Well, there's your problem.

Your offense in this case is Fortitude, Adrenaline Boost, and Recovery Aura (stretching things a bit for that one) and one attack. Two have long cooldowns and one a very long cooldown. That's not really participating.

When I read the first post, my initial thought was "Not sure if healor." You don't happen to have the medicine pool by chance?
  10. Can anyone tell me the secret to getting CoH to run on my spiffy new retina mbp (2.7 ghz i7, 16GB ram) in OS X without it becoming a space heater?

Blizzard games have yet to spin the fans up. CoH on just the login screen starts them up. Albeit at a low speed. Actually play the game and they go full force. Graphics settings don't seem to matter much. I'm not sure what actually happened but while on AC power with a previously 100% charged battery it started discharging while in Atlas and processor use was hitting 170% while AFK. No temperature warnings but the case was getting hot so I'm guessing the batteries were cooking.

My other MBP lasted as a main computer for 6 years. A few weeks in on my new one is a bit too early to start thrashing it the way the Mac CoH client does.

Thankfully I can justify the Windows purchase for work reasons (but sadly not to the point of reimbursement, yay for firewalls and clients that don't do dhcp over IPSec on just the Mac client).

This isn't a rage quit. Mostly howls of anger over how shoddy a job Transgaming did and the fact Paragon has put up with it. I'd have thought that with a red name getting a Mac they might have thought about doing something about it.

    edit:
Just for reference, the CPU temp goes from 30C idle to 66C at just the login screen and the graphics card temp is up to 87C.
  11. Nothing says fun like a ToV boss going to the other end of the map at warp nine when they get tagged by the acid mortar.

IOs are basically CoH's version of cheat codes. Not everyone plays with cheat codes turned on.

Now those cheats may be used to make a set playable at the modern pace, like any set with longish cooldown location based powers, or they can be made to make tankmages out of formerly squishy ATs, or they can be used to save time by not having fiddle with updating your enhancements every few levels.

On my shiny new retina mbp CoH (no matter the graphics settings) spins the fans up almost instantly. That third devil game (in 2880x1800) and the raiders vs. dragons game never* wind up the fans.

The cider wrapper must be thrashing my CPU something fierce. Not that I'll do it but I've thought about going back to playing CoH on my 2006 mbp so I don't burn the fans out before their time.

    *that I've noticed

edit: CoH runs smooth as silk, it's just disconcerting seeing what doesn't cause the fans to spin up to CoH's near instant fan usage.

I dislike Steam for many reasons, but none of the are because it keeps me from stealing.

Paragon would love the initial hit of money but when the influx of play it for a day then forget about types wipes out the community (how many games did you say you bought just to buy?) they might as well turn the servers off.

DLC is the bane of offline games. I don't need to have everyone knowing what I'm playing or how many cheevos I have. Of course I don't have a Facebook, LinkedIn, or MySpace account and I don't stream my music, which btw was ripped from my CDs or purchased online.

Since it seems like sales are the big draw of Steam if there was a Steam only sale as a non-Steam user I'd be pissed, if there weren't Steam only sales why bother with the overhead of Steam?

And as was just brought up why would I want Steam to get money for not doing anything that wasn't already done by the bog standard client?
  17. Honest question: what would Steam bring to a MMO?

There's no savegame files. All character data is stored serverside. The friends list is in game. The client is free to download and at least for mac side you can just drag and drop the package to move it to another computer. (Now if I could just figure what's causing the fans to fire up when D3 and WoW don't trigger them at all...)

Bindfiles and costumes are about the only thing I can see a synching service being useful for.

  19. Has there been any official chatter on the level being set to the receiving character's level as being up for fixing?

It seems quite the waste to run the event after getting all the badges on a 50 to end up with an attuned enhancement that doesn't make any use of being attuned.

That other game has to mash all the good stuff into the last level and then release an expansion with a new last level to mash all the good stuff into. The TARDIS couldn't unravel all the timey-wimeyness of the CoH story so I'll put up with some weirdness for new non-incarnate content.
  21. The Resistance would probably extend their Crusader Care plan to cover the refugees, as long as they had enough hospitals and explosives.

I personally shut off experience at 8 until I move to Imperial, 15 until I move to Neutropolis, and level 20 until I'm sure I'm on the final arc for my faction(s).
Nova is up to and including 10. Marchand/Scott will give you Imperial contacts at 8 but you can go directly to the contacts (love that find contacts button yellow side) for your alignment.

If only Responsibility was given a Sheridan moment to kick both Tyrant and the invading primal hordes out of Praetoria. At least kicking the primals that are helping themselves to remnants of their city out would be an okay consolation prize.
  25. Once per calendar day would be superior. Even with the 20 hour timer if you do it Friday night (after work) you can't do it Saturday morning or afternoon. Once per calendar day it wouldn't matter what time you did it on the previous day.
