Quote:I recall discussing this with friends and family about ten years ago ... the problem I see with a new Star Trek series is that it's more or less been done before. We've seen adventures on a space ship, we've seen adventures on a space station. They had to add a space ship to the space station because it wasn't working out all that well when limited to only a station.
I guess I have no issue of more of the same, if it's like TNG... TNG benefited from veteran actors (many Shakespearean), and writing that, while not always perfect, had a seriousness behind it that made it special. That went away with Voyager, where it became a soap opera.
That's what worries me the most with a "young fresh cast"... that it'll just become an excessively dramatic soap opera that dispenses with the seriousness that a future space tale should involve. We're dealing with 4-500 years in the future, where we're interacting with other species, some of whom have never been encountered before. It's not even remotely believable that the crew of a spaceship would behave the way young people act in many tv shows nowadays.
I really think the franchise would benefit from older actors, personally. We probably won't get another Patrick Stewart, but we should try.

Agreed.
The younger cast part doesn't set quite right with me. Why? Why do we need, or want, a younger cast? It certainly doesn't make it more believable. So what does it add to the show?
Now, there's good reason to have (all, or a majority of) younger people on the show. Maybe a couple people not long out of the academy, having to adjust to actual life deployed out on a ship for months/years at a time. But that's really just something that should be in the background. Part of the individual character development.
There's no logical reason the crew as a whole needs to be Young and Sexy.
Except ratings. Tart it up for the ratings. -
Honestly I don't think I've ever tried to pair the characters up with a voice actor. I mean certain characters of course sound a certain way to me (in my head) when reading dialog and such, but they're never the voices of Hollywood types, not that I'm consciously aware of anyhow.
There's some, interesting pairings in there.

One thing to note is that unlike Ice Storm which keeps it's Blaster Level damage on Defenders, they appear to be getting a modified version of Rain of Fire, which deals less damage.

Quote:This is one of the few uses I've had for dual builds, and I also just gave up on maintaining my Night Widow build. I just prefer ranged play. I don't think I've even trained my Fortunata's second build since he was in his low 30s.I used it on my Fortunata for a while to give her a Night Widow backup build, though I've pretty much given up on the second build by now.
Second builds just don't tend to be worth the cost for me.
The only other character I've bothered with a second build for was my namesake FF/Psi defender, to have a team build and a softcapped solo build. I've basically shelved him since then though, so making the second build doesn't seem like it helped any. -
I'll add Stone Armor to the list of Powersets I don't like, cause it's god awful ugly as sin.
Unlike many, I love the look of Granite Armor but having to play a set I can't stand to look at for 32 or 38 levels to get Granite is something I just can't bring myself to do. -
Quote:The thread's managed to glide under the radar for a solid week now, so I dunno, about the IBTD.Ok, I'm sure the thread will be deleted or at least locked before tomorrow but I'll chime in with more information on the game.
There are two factions, basically good guys and bad guys.
Multiple species and classes for both factions.
The three guys you see in the cinematic and game play were pre-generated characters that are used in the demo play at the show. The reason for the pre-generation is because ncsoft found that players were using up a large chunk of their 40 minute play time creating their characters. Remind you of any other games?
The bunny girl doesn't have to be a bunny or purple. That species is anthropomorphic and can have choices of different colors, different ears, different tails. I believe the species name translates to furries. They are psychics and they are the support class. They have heals, buffs, and debuffs. however they also have a decent amount of dps.
The guy with the guns was human. Can't remember the class name but it's basically a techno mage. They use technology enhanced with their own magic abilities. They are pretty much a blapper.
Don't remember the species name of the rock guy either but he was a mercenary. Basically a scrapper.
The part that sounds awesome about the game is you don't have to play it fast twitch like they were showing. The game mechanics allow for slow and steady taking on of foes all the way up to full on scrapper lock.
Also there are trees of specialization you can take. You can be a Warrior (most your missions are tailored toward fighting), An Explorer (most your missions are tailored toward exploring out of the way places and you can even earn abilities that let you get to places other specialties can't), A collector (think missions designed to satisfy badge collectors.).
And there are three forms of end game. There is PvP. There are group raids. And there are solo or small group missions. That's basically what I remember from the panel and demo. Anybody else who was there can correct or add to it.
As far as the rest, it's nice to have a good bit more info, Thanks. Sounds pretty interesting.
So each race is limited to their own specific class? Like I couldn't have a Human support type, or an Anthropomorphic Techno-mage? Or was that just the the Class which the Bunnygirl was, with other classes being available?
If it's specific Race = specific Class, that's kind of a downer, but I suppose if the customization is good enough it's not so big of a deal for me.
Also, do you know if both genders are available for each race? (Kinda of a no brainer question, but you can never be too sure.) -
Honestly, if you dislike a character enough that you have to ask for a reason NOT to delete them, then IMO you should just delete it. If it's not fun, why play it?

Quote:Honestly I started a tally, but so many people are using different ranking systems (and splitting Archetypes into seperate groups (e.g. Storm Controllers vs All Other Controllers)) that it's basically impossible.lol i really want someone to tally this at the end. i wanna see how people view tankers and peacebringers. /barf!
My rather cursory, and completely unofficial impression from my attempted listing was that most people seem to enjoy melee characters, and really don't like one or both Kheldians. -
Quote:I'm sure it'll be part of the Kilts category, and thus completely unusable with the Monstrous legs, just like SO MANY pieces that would go perfectly with them, cause **** people who like Monstrous legs.Quote:Am I the only one that's disappointed that the "Minotaur" in the pictures is using human legs, and not the monsterous legs, to show off a new costume part?
I'm guessing this will be another option that won't work with the monster legs. Too bad, as lots of beastial characters might work well with barbarian stuff. -

I dunno how I would rate them numerically, But I can group them for you.
Most liked:
Defenders (Varies based on powerset combination)
Controllers (Varies based on powerset combination)
Dominators
SoA - Fortunata
Moderately liked:
Warshade
Corruptors (Varies based on powerset combination)
Tankers
Brutes
SoA - Huntsmen
Least liked:
Peacebringer (Might improve after the i21 buffs)
SoA - Night Widow
Scrappers
Stalkers
Blasters
SoA - Banes
SoA - Crabs
Masterminds -
Least favorite AT: Masterminds. I just don't like feeling secondary to an NPC (or group of them), even those that I have (somewhat clunky) control over. I just feel like I'm not the one accomplishing things, they are.
Also Blasters, Scrappers and Stalkers. Less so but also Tankers and Brutes, because I feel like they only bring 1 thing to the table (Damage in most cases).
Least favorite Sets: Weapon sets. All of them. I really can't stand redraw.
Gravity Control, because it's performance disappoints me so much, when it's such an awesome concept that I WANT to love it. -
I'd an odd person, in that I actually WANT to experience said natural disasters. I want to live through an earthquake, a hurricane, and a tornado.
I've lived in California all but 9months of my entire life, and I've never even felt an earthquake. Color me disappointed.
Edit: As for which is scarier, the sudden but short ones. You can see the slow building events before they happen and take action to limit the fallout, but even if you know you're in an area that's at risk for sudden disasters you can't be on alert 24/7/365. That kind of stress could cause serious trauma all by itself. (Think the cold war era threat of atomic bombing, but replacing the soviets with mother nature.) -
Quote:Add to that the fact that a Matter/Anti-matter reaction isn't the only way to power a warp drive. Romulan ships use a forced artificial singularity as their power source. (Though that supposedly limits their maximum speed to slightly slower than Federation warp drives. While they were shown to be capable of matching speeds with the Enterprise-D this apparently lead to damage to the drive system.)Dilithium/rilithium is a rare element that allows for the control of the matter/anit-matter mixture by way of allowing some anti-matter pass through, but not all. This a unique property as far as we know.
We also know that it can b synthesized and the crystals are recycled so that the crystal almost never need replacement.
Further even if all the dilithium/trilithium was in really short supply it's almost gaurenteed that there are other elements that do the same thing and there are already other well known warp drive engines and non-warp drive AND even if they couldn't get hold of that with their technology and ability to mess with force fields they don't actually need the dilithium/trilithium.
Season 5 of Enterprise (before it got cancelled) was supposed to show the run-up to the Earth-Romulan War. There was also talk of a movie, Star Trek: The Beginning which would detail the war itself. That ultimately got dropped in favor of the JJ Abrams reboot. -
I agree it's time for a non-human captain, but then I remember back in the day, there was a good deal of commotion about Captain Janeway being *gasp* a female captain?
I can imagine quite a few people being put off if the race of the captain is any too different from a Human. Trill would be a good bet. Betazoid also. Bajoran... eh, iffy on that cause Major Kira is the main representation we've had for Bajorans and a surprising number of people didn't like her.
I wouldn't expect any race where considerable makeup is involved, the less human they look, the less people will identify with them and you need the audience to be able to relate to them, cause really everyone wants to be the Captain. -

My most abused thing isn't a single piece, it's a combination of pieces:
Sleeveless Jackets (Baron, Uniform, Biker)
Leather Straps Chest
Tee pattern
Makes a decent 2-color short sleeve option.
Pair the top with either Business slacks or the Resistance pants with the Thin Stripe 1 pattern. (Single stripe down the length of the leg.)
Generally if I use a hat it's Fedora 2, this pic was from messing with the Steam Pack in it's beta though, so it has a Steampunk hat instead.
I basically always use Supernatural Face 11. -
Quote:That shouldn't really matter.I think the lower base damage is in part due to the fact that it's a ranged attack.
Melee and Ranged attacks use the same Damage scale:recharge, and Tier3 blasts are common in Blast sets. (Most of the 10second blasts actually have better than 1.96scale damage.)
It's like Dark Blast got intentionally shorted the added damage when Dark Melee didn't, despite the fact that CoH doesn't weight melee damage higher than ranged (on a power vs power basis, Archetype damage mods are a whole other story).
Really though I'm fine with it as is and I'm happy for the change, it just makes me scratch my head a little is all.
