Just so you all understand the big picture...

Macskull and Warface both got it right. When we looked at how the PVP system was going to work with a rewards system, the result was pretty nasty. It's a massive oversimplification, but normal players could not compete with experienced PVP'rs, which wasn't much fun for the normal players.
PVP needed to be reworked so a normal player had a reasonable chance of beating an experienced player. Otherwise, normal players simply will not play if they have no chance of winning. Ending the /threadjack there though.
Oversimplified comments below...
DR + TS + HD + Mez Res only + greater imbalances on sets and powers + worthless sets and powers + DRed PvP IO rewards + cruddy drop rate + can't be purchased with merits or rep cash in system + 50mil through 4bil price tags + PvP won't be touched until after GR which will be about 2 years = sucks big time, is not fun or enjoyable and is not very encouraging for current or future players.
I'm all for reasonable and "as balanced as can be" systems but currently everything PvP related is the exact opposite and absolutely ridiculous. -

Because they can by game design.
There could be many reasons why they are there.
Yes.
IDK.
Design a toon using mids', post it on the boards to get advice, level and slot said toon, go PvP.
I don't understand all this ganking business people complain about. Prepare, practice, get better, team up, live longer, get kills. Pretty simple concept. I'm sure you already have applied this to the PvE portion of the game right?
5 levels higher in powers from the zone level cap.
No clue bc I never cared to look.
Can't blame the current crop of players because of your lack of PvP experience.
PvP is dead because of poor design decisions made back in issue 13. -

One small step for PvPers; one giant leap for PvPkind!

Awesome job team! All we need to do now is get the rest of these ideas implemented and we are golden! -
Unfortunately that was a genuine suggestion and idea despite what some of you are assuming.
Considering that these types of mechanics have been implemented in portion of the game and have been discussed and considered in other areas of the game, it is not something completely out of the question or unreasonable to discuss.
This game needs new level of challenges, PvP population is low, the PvP mechanics are extremely foreign to players because it is so drastic from PvE, generally players learn about PvP through getting farmed which is not very motivating, your team does not provide any character builders that show accurate numbers, players are forced to build there toons by trial and error and I'm assuming these mechanics are here to stay, so the idea does make sense and is worth considering. -
Quote:I just wanted to point out that there are things called forum posting rules. I'm being nice enough to give people the opportunity to modify or delete their posts before I have mod8 do it for them. Troll/flame posts lead to locked or deleted threads and I'm not going to allow that to happen here.I just wanted to point out that threats aren't generally taken well... also, it can be surmised that anyone making those comments obviously doesn't support your idea, since they believe it to be made in jest. In fact, saying this thread is little more than troll-bait is making a very strong negative statement. If you truly value the positive and negative feedback, as you say you do, then why are you asking that very strong negative sentiments be removed?
It is very unfortunate that I even had to explain that to you.
Either contribute to this topic or move along. -
Wow this has become a pretty hot topic!
For the record, I am being completely serious about this suggestion and will have a few more additions for this topic soon.
Big thanks to those who have contributed both positive and negative constructive feedback, keep it up so this remains a productive, meaningful and worthwhile discussion.
To those who have dropped comments about this being a troll thread and such, please remove them or I'll have our friendly neighborhood Mod8man remove them for you.
Thanks -
I am very serious about that idea but I'm also thinking the exact same thing and loling through those serious comments being made.
-
This also makes complete sense from an RP standpoint because that would explain why the Praetorian counterparts to our signature heroes and villains are not as powerful in certain ways.
Wow, it's so amazingly interesting how all this fits together! -
I'm all in favor of trashing the current PvP mechanics but if the Devs do decide to keep them as is, then I believe I have come up with (thank macskull for the inspitration) a great solution to counter the lack of player participation in PvP.
-
I know, you know and especially the Devs know that PvE in this game is far too easy mode for its' own good. We also know that if new levels of challenge are not given to players the game grows stagnant. Boring easy mode only holds someones retention for so long.
As far as facts are concerned, I’ll have to look around for it or if someone could kindly provide a quote, in total the Devs had received more positive feedback about the PvP revamp through PMs than combined total negative feedback. Sorry but that means that are way more loyalists for these types of game mechanics out there then there are resistance members going against it.
Also keep in mind that this would not be an entire game wide change, these rules would only apply to GR and PvP.
Having player desired and approved mechanics like these in GR makes complete sense for the bigger picture. It will add a new layer of challenge, more fun, hold up retention numbers and provide an avenue that develops player confidence to participate in the end game content known as PvP.
If you are really sitting there thinking to yourself that the Devs do not want to throw in different mechanics into to the game to challenge players you are sorely mistaken. The PvP revamp is there for a reason. Look at the difficulty level of Reichsman. See what they are doing with holiday events?
Go ahead sit back and flame, troll and laugh all you want but you can’t fight the inevitable evolution that is occurring. -
Implementing this idea will increase long-term PvE retention numbers and improve the overall health of PvP. PvE win/PvP win/More $ for NCsoft win!
-
For GR they should apply the exact same rules in Praetoria that we currently have for PvP. This would not only provide players with a refreshing new level of challenge, but would also allow them to experience and get comfortable with these mechanics in a safe environment which will make them less apprehensive to step foot into the Arena or a PvP zone.
If this were to happen it would become a win/win situation for both the PvE and PvP community.
Also, please throw in some PvPvE content as well just like they have in Aion. -
Quote:You just gave me an amazing idea! Here's an amusing social experiment: go into the suggestions and ideas forum and start a thread about how the game could stand to use some rebalancing to bring certain "problem" builds in line, as everyone knows there are certain powerset combinations that are way better than others. In this thread, you'd list off the changes made to PvP in I13, but reword them and apply them to PvE so it's not immediately obvious. Make the post, and then watch the uproar as people would say "wow, if they did that, I'd quit the game." The devs knew this when I13 happened, yet they also knew that the existing PvP playerbase was so small as to be completely expendable so they had absolutely no qualm with making all those changes. Now, the PvP playerbase is even smaller, which makes me wonder if they're thinking to themselves "well, it can't get much worse, let's throw some more changes at them and see what happens," or if they're saying "hm, we should fix this."
You hit the nail on the head, good sir.
For GR they should apply the exact same rules in Praetoria that we have for PvP. This would not only provide players with a refreshing new level of challenge, but would also allow them to learn and understand these mechanics in a safe environment which will in turn make them less apprehensive to step foot into the Arena or a PvP zone. win/win
I'll be posting this in suggestions so please be sure to click over there and show your support. -
Having PvP IOs drop from critters would be the best thing ever!
Aion has an interesting concept but beyond that it is a terrible game. The only thing I would approve of is having a rift system connecting CoX to Aion so we could grief people in the Abyss. -
"Greetings!
The PvP community would love it if you reviewed PvP recipe drop rates and provided a response on your findings as well.
Thanks!
Optical Illusion" -
If you plan on keeping the PvP mechanics as is then would you please at least give Controllers the reach around and improve their primary sets to be more useful?
Here are some examples...
No DoT for ST attacks, just pure damage.
Add decent damage to ST and AoE Mez attacks that currently do little to no damage.
Drastically lower the timer for long recharge powers.
Have Containment do something other than nothing.
Beef up pets.
Thanks -
Quote:HAHA! I knew it! I can't wait to see which one of these "good plans" gets implemented!Just to clarify;
When I say plans, I mean something very specific. A plan is an idea someone had that got taken seriously enough that something was written up about it. There are tons of plans we have, not all of them are scheduled to go in to the game at any given point, and those that are scheduled may get removed/moved/modified.
Plans are great things, implementing good plans in a manner that is enjoyable for you guys is a difficult thing (but worth pursuing). We're working on things, but please don't assume that since we have plans immediate changes are on the way.
From this day forward I vow to renew my efforts with creating and compiling ideas to help shape and mold a brighter future for PvP! -
Not a pistol BUT could provide some good ideas...
"The Zorg ZF1 Gun from The Fifth Element: Zorg's gun is nothing short of spectacular. It can break down into four pieces that are undetectable by x-rays, is good for left or right handers, features a 3000 round magazine, has a "Replay" button that sends all shots to the same location, a rocket launcher, an arrow launcher (with posion or explosive-tipped arrows), a net launcher, a flamethrower, and an "ice cube" freezing blast. Oh, and it'll self-destruct if you push the button on the bottom."

Quote:I have no idea what you're trying to say here. I pointed out why the heal suppression is actually good now IMO based on my play time with my therm now vs then for RV play and supported that argument as you asked originally, and you counter with…kill the healer. Also, who's complaining here. I like the changes and you don’t, so its certainly not me..
Quote:My PB is actually the most enjoyable toon to PvP with that I have for RV, by a long shot. I play mine as a tri form regen, have all 3 heals, and change forms regularly. The thing that people are not aware of is that your heals do not suppress/reduce. I can heal for just over 2,000 in under 5 seconds when all 3 of my heals are up, not to mention that after doing so I'm sporting close to 2,200 hit points in any form due to the dull pain +hp heal. As PvP toons go, its considerably more challenging to master than any other class, that requires and absolute ton of hotkeys and macros. It’s a great deal of fun if you like a challenge.
Let’s look closer to what you have said...
