Quote:Energy Aura's endurance management tools and stealth do appeal to me and could easily be incorporated into my playstyle. Since I'm more oriented towards offensive melee, playing the toon as a pseudo-tank would not be an issue.Energy Aura is good set its just not a tanking set. It has good survivability if you try not to tank with stealth and multple +endurance/-endcost powers with minor heals. And capped energy res
Energy melee is definetly powerful but is slow now. you can easily solo some AVs with these sets very high damage and decent res/def
As for Energy Melee, it seems similar to Martial Arts. Both sets have significant Disorient capabilities, theoretically allowing you to stack them against bosses. This also seems like a plus to me.
So far, so good.
Thanks for your input. -
Like most altoholics, I'm often looking for powerset combos that I haven't tried before. It recently dawned on me that, for some reason, I've overlooked energy/energy. I also don't think I've seen anyone else playing this combo either in nearly 2 years of game play.
From what I've read, the conventional wisdom on energy aura is that it's fairly mediocre and that other secondaries outshine it in various ways. Despite this, I'm inclined to try it out and pair it with energy melee. The two sets seem thematically compatible, even if there's not much actual synergy. The combo also seems to lend itself to a science-fictiony backstory.
So for those who've tried the combo, what was good about it? If you tried it and thought it sucked, then I'd also like to know why. It's quite possible that your misgivings about the combo could relate to your playstyle and may not be applicable to me. This would be for a solo PvE character.
Thanks for your time. -
Congratulations Fusion. Looking forward to trying it myself.
Note to self: Roll up a KM/SD scrapper. -
When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed he would be playing J. Jonah Jameson because of his abrasive on-screen persona. Still, let's see what he can do.

Theoretically, Sister Psyche could help Wyvern be more accurate in deciding which threats actually warrant lethal force.
Bear in mind that the law defines most crimes in terms of action and intent. Actions are fairly straightforward but intent must usually be inferred. If you have access to one of the most powerful psychics on the planet, then you're better able to determine a criminal's mental state. Are they beyond rehabilitation or redemption? Are they remorseful? Will they repeat their crimes?
I'm not aware that Sister Psyche actually does this. I'm just pointing out that her abilities don't automatically bring her into opposition with Wyvern's methods. She could actually serve as a moderating influence by limiting their use of lethal force to those criminals who can't be stopped by anything else. -

Quote:I agree. Despite the proven marketability of adult-oriented animation on DVD, there still seems to be mental block among the major networks. I'd expect one of the cable networks (i.e. Cartoon Network or Syfy) to be more receptive to the idea.I tend to blame what I call the "Disney syndrome" for why you don't really see serious/dramatic primetime animated shows on American TV. Most Americans have been conditioned over the years into believing that anything which is "animated" has to be limited to things that are either humorous or geared towards young children. The idea of having an animated TV show with serious storylines that would appeal mainly to adults (like various examples of Japanese anime) is a concept that would be a very tough sell to Hollywood suits.
While it would be cool I have hard time seeing how a primetime animated Hulk show would ever happen here. -
You're right. I forgot that the show was intended to fill a chunk of network prime-time real estate. Being a pessimist, I guess I'll cling to my expectations of cheesiness.
-
I would rather see a well-done animated series than a cheesy live-action series. And given the budgetary/technical constraints involved in producing live television, I expect cheesiness.
An animated series that aims for a Batman:TAS or Superman:TAS level of quality, however, would be very welcome. I think it would be easier to sustain than a live-action version. -
Got my new Claws/Electric up to level 6. As expected, I like the play style of fast attacks with low endurance cost. I also have an Energy/Electric sitting idle who I'm going to dust off and start playing again.
Decided to also make a Stone/FA. Inherent Fitness will help with the ungodly endurance cost until he gets Consume. I enjoy FA on my Spines/FA scrapper (especially since it was upgraded) so I'm looking forward to trying it on a brute. Thematically, I think SM and FA go well together, like a walking volcano. Smash and burn... what's not to like? -
I appreciate the input. Thanks all.

Doesn't War Mace also offer a satisfying smash experience?
I also like the SHHHHHHIIIKKT! sound that weapons make when you draw them. I'm not really into role playing but sometimes you can't help yourself. For example, when my BS/Regen fights Clockwork, I always think the following:
"So, you guys like metal? I got some metal for ya."
SHHHHHHIIIKKT!
"Come and get it."
(followed by sounds of metal impacting metal)
Yes, it's cheesey. No, I'm not proud of it. But I'm still gonna do it. And I won't stop until they pull that Broadsword from my cold, dead hand. -
Stone/Electric and Stone/Fire both sound good in terms of synergy, CBeet. Thank you. With regard to Super Strength, can I assume that Electric Armor's recharge boost will bring Rage back up sooner? I don't have much experience with SS but perma-Rage seems to be the goal that all SS brutes pursue. (if I'm remembering correctly, that is)

I really like the idea of damage auras on brutes. It seems that fury turns a damage aura into the gift that keeps on giving, allowing you to dish out more damage than either scrappers or tankers. So my question for you experienced brutes is this: Which primaries do you enjoy pairing with Dark Armor, Electric Armor or Fiery Aura and why do you enjoy it?
Just so you know, this would be for a solo, PvE character. I'm planning on a Claws/Electric but would also like to try other combos as well. Thanks. -
As I understand it, the Flying Fortress was an impressive combination of both offense and defense. They carried heavy bomb loads, took massive punishment and brought their crews back home.
This suggests a brute to me - they're hardier than scrappers and inflict more damage than tankers.
For primaries, I think either Super Strength or Fiery Melee. SS just screams "bad@ss" and FM simulates the effects of bombardment. (think of Dresden)
For secondaries, I think either Inv or WP for the same reasons that others have mentioned. I'd also consider Shield Defense because it connotes the armor plating on the fuselage and increases your damage output with AAO.
Finally, you might also consider a scranker, either a tanker optimized for damage or a scrapper optimized for defense. -
Quote:In a way, Cartman reminds me of Beavis & Butthead. Mike Judge said that part of the joke of B&B was that they create so much havoc and pain and are rarely, if ever, held accountable. Seems similar to Cartman. You either find the premise funny or you don't.The ending was lame as hell. In fact, the whole arc was lame, mostly due to Cartman/The Coon. I swear, Cartman is dragging SP down further and further into the abyss as the years go by. The more they make him an insufferable male part, the more SP becomes unwatchable.

Quote:Good call, Lothic! Right on the money!I think it'd be funny if Mint Berry Crunch turns out to be the one to somehow banish Cthulhu from our world. I mean they've spent the last two episodes building up the joke that no one really knows what his superpower/purpose is so it'd only make sense if he comes out of no where and does something pivotal to save everyone.
You now have access to three new powersets...
PRIMARY: Mint Blast
SECONDARY: Berry Manipulation
APP: Crunching
I hope you can use them as wisely as their noble inspiration, the great Mint Berry Crunch. Half man, half berry, all hero.
EDIT: Sorry for the spoiler to anyone who didn't watch it yet. Cthulhu made me do it. -
Quote:I thought that the boys knew each other's secret identities. Didn't they address Kenny as both "Kenny" and "Mysterion?" At any rate, the gravelly, Christian Bale-esque voice definitely added to the episode's Awesome Quotient.Actually Kenny is technically "disguising" his voice the same way Christian Bale does for Batman. Theoretically the other boys aren't suppose realize it's Kenny the same way Lois Lane isn't supposed to realize it's Superman when Clark Kent is wearing glasses. Remember that everyone on the show can understand Kenny's typical muffled voice as if it's completely clear to them - only the audience can't hear it very well. So when Kenny talks in that rough, low tone that's supposed to conceal his secret identity to the other boys, not us.
The irony of course is that Kenny's gruff "secret" superhero voice is much more understandable to the viewers of the show than his normal voice. -
Gotta agree. I also like how the storylines are cohesive and the episodes build upon each other. Throw in plenty of fight scenes and some humor (i.e. Thor's perception of Jarvis as the talking house) and it's an enjoyable half-hour. Maybe not the Timmverse, which is the gold standard in superhero animation, but still a worthy addition. I like it better than a lot of Marvel's previous television ventures.
-
It's also great hearing Kenny speak in an understandable voice after all those years of being muffled. Who knew he had so much to say? And that mournful, world-weary sigh after being resurrected yet again... man, Kenny is DEEP. Fantastic episode.

Outstanding guide. Thanks for all your hard work.

Quote:I stand (or sit on a whoopie cushion) corrected. My reasoning was clearly impaired by my clownophobia. It's a clown. Being male, female or uncertain is not required for a clown to be named Joy. Or Wiggums. Or Shnookie. Or Nookie Monster. Hehe Haha. Zerbert the Unyielding. Tinkles the Unwieldy. Santos the Heavy. Squiggy. Captain Butz Pirate. (Okay that last alias was used by The Red Guy, but he's a rather clownish character.)

Quote:ALL clowns are scary.
Oh, and Dark Melee is a good utility set in general with a fun fear power for a scary clown even if it doesn't do damage.
To the OP, you might also consider Electric Armor. It has Lightning Reflexes, which permanently increases your movement and attack speed without costing any endurance. It also has a damage aura in Lightning Field. Your character could be a walking joy buzzer. (If you roll a female clown, you could even name her Joy Buzzer.)
