Once you get past the interruption on Aid Self (1s base IIRC?), it doesn't root you, by which I mean, you can move freely but not execute any other power.

Quote:If you ask me, taking on Holtz alone is already great. It's easy to call him a chump when playing one of the top AV soloing builds such as bots/traps, another thing entirely to beat him on a melee alt. And Honoree at the same time? Well done.
I know they're not the full bore, but taking both on at once has to count for something. -
Nice job ! Times aren't looking bad either.

Bringing this up because I feel this is relevant regarding an earlier point discussed in this topic : soloing of higher level AVs.
I just soloed a +2 AV on my Fire/Stone brute (you can see the video in the above link, and check the drama around it if you want to). While I used insps, the build isn't fully IOed out yet and has already 41.5% psi def or so ; with Maneuvers fully slotted and the +3def PVP IO I wouldn't have had any reason to use a single luck. The chain I used was Scorch Cremate Scorch Incinerate, which isn't bad but certainly won't break any DPS record, without calculating I'd estimate I have about 170-180 DPS with that. That fight took about fifteen minutes, and as you can see I wasn't in any risk of dying.
Now, as we all know different AVs have different strengths and weaknesses, and being softcapped against positional psi makes Malaise's damage trivial. Still, I was surprised to see how fast and smooth it went - only one attempt, instant success, with a partially IOed out build. It doesn't seem out of reach to take on a specific level 53 or even level 54 AV for some of the strongest DPS builds out there, seeing as numbers above the 200 range seem to come from nearly every scrapper combo thanks to the Alpha Slot and inherent Fitness. -
Video link up.
Wegame somehow doesn't work for me in Firefox, but it shows up just fine in Chrome. If it doesn't work (stuck on the endlessly loading circle thingy), you can always just download the video and watch it, it's only 60mb.
You can send the money to @Dacc -

Quote:"Skill", knowledge of the game or whatever you want to call it, has everything to do with knowing how to play in order to maximise shard drops solo. If you're running +0/x8 for one hour and don't get at least (absolute minimum) 3 shards, you're too slow and have no business talking about skill.
Skill has nothing to do with shard drops. There's been several times where I've ran tip & contact missions for a few hours and received NO shards at all, and others where I've ran a single mission and received a couple.
You can kill 5.000 foes and not get a single purple drop. That's what random means ; but you're extremely unlikely to kill 50.000 foes solo and not get a single purple drop. That's what probabilities mean. -
At a quick glance (provided you got the endurance for it), I'd go with Haymaker Punch Gloom, Haymaker Punch KO Blow, Haymaker Punch Gloom, Haymaker Punch Footstomp. You could do better than that but I like simple repetitive chains as not to mess up (and good SS chains are hard to make with that 25s recharge on KO blow).

Back off, Rad. That bet is mine.
St0ner, agreed for 12 billions. Expect the video to hit this topic within the next weeks if not days. -
I'm gonna go with "lol" on that one.
I'm betting you 10 billions influence I can take out a level 52 archvillain of my choosing with a brute of my choosing, using inspirations but no temps nor any kind of external help before the year 2011. Proof would be posted with a video showing the full fight.
Wanna put your ingame money where your mouth is, or are you going to puss out and hide behind forum insults? -
He said "2x", not "x2" ; as in, "I soloed AVs while I was in my twenties (level 20-29)". He posted screenshots at the time and even without that I wouldn't doubt him for a second, AVs at lower levels are weaker and any AT can take out AVs with judicious use of insps.
Besides, I'm not even sure what do YOU mean by "x2". +2? Because soloing 2 AVs at once is no bigger deal than one AV at once as far as DPS goes. Soloing a +2 AV doesn't sound too hard either with the right build and the right AV. Shoot, if insps are allowed I bet I can pick my mostly SO slotted brute and take one down in minutes. I'll log-in and have a go at it right now.
Edit : nevermind, at 50 I was wrong. My attack chain just has too much gaps and my endurance management isn't yet enough to take a level 52 AV down even with insps. Still can manage to already outpace his regen, and that's with SOs in attacks. Granted, I already have an Alpha slot, but this build is far from what it'll be once IOed out. -
I think a Night Widow makes a better assassin than a Claws/SR. You get your defense earlier, you get hidden status enabling crits, you get toxic damage in your quick animating attacks.
Then there's of course stalkers, but the minmaxer in me cringes at the idea of playing a stalker.
Back to topic, keep in mind SR, properly slotted, ends up with capped (95%) defense debuff resistance, so cascading failure won't happen. Shadow Meld or Elude (I wouldn't advice both, but it's your choice) can still be useful against high tohit foes or extremely high defense debuffs, but you'll be able to shrug off most common defense debuffs.
You could run a Swipe Strike Swipe Slash attack chain with the recharge numbers you posted about. It wouldn't be a fantastic attack chain, but it's enough to get you through content. I can understand not wanting Focus (it's what makes me not play Claws personally) but I'd strongly advice working Follow Up in there. -
I read the OP, then I did a search for his recent posts and found the following tidbit:
Quote:If you're not getting 3 shards per hour, at worst, as a solo player while trying to optimize, you've got no business talking about skill.Since completing the arc, I've gotten 3 additional shards in 12 hours of solo play -
Quote:Nope, not true. As I said earlier, did it with a SO fire/stone granite brute, running what can't even be considered an attack chain as there was more gaps in it than in swiss cheese and I had to use AoEs while ST attacks were recharging. How fast do you think I moved in Granite + Rooted, without teleport, on a room with height variation? Answer : I just stood still and traded blows with the guy until he fell.
Trapdoor is a very simplistic version of this. You can have all the IOs in the world, but if you just stand there and try to beat him down, only the top DPS builds in the game might have a chance.
I think the regen boost his clones give him isn't permanent ; at some times I could barely break even or he would even regen back some, at other times he would barely regen and his life was dropping fast. -
You could do that in AE by creating a mission and setting the mission level to (i.e.) 51-51, I think. I haven't checked for sure and they do so many changes to AE, but I'm rather sure I got +level AVs to spawn in AE in the past.
A level 53 Marauder doesn't seem out of reach, if you ask me. Long, boring, but probably no big deal for someone who spent hours killing Lord Nemesis. -
Quote:You have it backwards. These AVs were created as AVs and are identical in every way to the similar AVs you could meet in a TF. Some people complained they couldn't solo high-level content because AVs were in every story arc, so the devs introduced the option to lower them down to EBs to improve soloing experience a few years ago, and made that the default setting.
I seriously hate to start this way, but this is wrong. If you are running a story arc solo that has a Hero or AV in it, it is set up as an EB with specialized powers to mirror it's full strength build.
I believe there is even an option in the fateweaver to allow you to solo these at full strength. However, the default is EB level.
Turning them down to EBs doesn't even make them real EBs, they still retain the purple triangles of doom (50s up 25s down high mez protection to everything) and the high resistances to most debuffs AVs enjoy.
In comparison, a normal, real Elite Boss (i.e. Frostfire in the Hollows, or that warrior dude in Striga Island) has no such thing, and unless the particular EB you're fighting has powers/resistances against that, you can hold an EB in 3 holds, KB him/her all over the place, or put Darkest Night on him/her and /e dance without a worry.
Quote:LRSF also has them at +4. While in missions, the level of the AVs tend to be even level or +1.
And that's the important part. +3. It's got nothing to do with TFs or story arcs, a +3 AV is an entirely different beast than a +0 AV... Just the same as with every kind of mob, really.
Edit : wow, sniped twice. Time to head off to sleep I guess ! -
Quote:I'm completely sure Empower->SS ran into this problem two years ago. I even posted a video about it, and reported it on the scrapper issue list. Seeing as it's still there in the I18 update, I suppose it's not fixed.
There's some rule about not being able to start a combo until 5 seconds after the last combo was started... this chain takes over 5 seconds. I use it when exemplared below hasten, which I haven't done in a while, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't run into this problem... I'll have to check in game again before I swear to it though.
I'd post the link to the vid, but... Well, I'll do it anyway, because the problem might be on my end, who knows? I just get a spinning loading thingy and the video never starts. I guess I should have used youtube.
Quote:Is Empower -> SS -> Repeat better than BF -> Attack Vitals?
In mitigation, it lacks the KD from Vengeful Slice, but it uses fast animations only and so lets you react faster when you need it (I've died while locked into Vengeful Slice too many times to not mention how important quick activations can be for survivability).
In AOE, it depends. BF->AV does better on paper, but some of it is DoT and will often be wasted. Emp->SS, even with the bug, gives you the benefit of a double-stacked BF on SS and an additional +12.5% (+25% if the bug was/is fixed) damage too.
As you add more and more damage buffs from other sources, BF->AV starts catching up with Emp->SS in ST damage, while still requiring lower recharge. -
I'd use whichever attack you use as an opener, as you're going to use that attack a bit more than the other ones in normal play.

Quote:There seems to be a misconception here. While different AVs have different strengthes and weaknesses, there's no such thing as "full strength AVs in TFs" and "glorified EBs in story arcs". An AV is an AV, with the same hit points, regeneration, damage and accuracy modifiers, everything. What makes the difference is the individual AV itself, the environment has nothing particular making AVs stronger (unless what you really meant is "can scrappers solo level +1, +2, +3, +4 AVs").
Can Scrappers solo full strength AVs? Not the glorified EBs found in story arcs. I mean the full strength ones you see in task forces. -
Quote:/2. Unless it's been fixed and I missed it, there's a bug with combos, if you chain them in... whatever time it takes to do Empower+SS, the second combo doesn't start. So you only get the Empower buff half as much as you should be.
-Empower needs each attack to hit, so it's 10% bonus is given 95%^3 of the time -
Quote:I've unlocked Mender Ramiel on a fire/stone brute (who used to be an AE baby, which supposedly should make me a stupid person unable to play the game correctly) with SOs, which I frantically leveled from 35 to 50 picking whatever so I could just start the arc and join a raid. My granite was 4-slotted (messed up the slotting while training), I still had Legacy Fitness, and yet it still was a breeze (on +0/x1 with "no AVs", obv.).
but please make the unlock more solo-friendly, too.
Given the above experience, I'm not sure how much more solo friendly can you make this arc unless it just consisted of the very first mission, and I'm not sure how can one not manage to complete this arc unless that hypothetical person purposefully sets up to make a terrible build and play poorly (which IS minmaxing, just in a different direction than the usual one). -
Quote:Thing is, nobody else has made a fancier pig yet. Well, Minecraft has some pretty good ones, but that's a different kind of pig and the multiplayer part sucks. So as much as I might want to move on from CoH, it's still the best thing to play out there.
face it the game is old and all these updates are just lipstick on a pig -
Quote:Yeah, I'm gonna go with "no". Haven't seen more or less purples dropping since I19, but then again unlike some people (i.e. "speed" TFs runners who skip most mobs) I didn't change my playstyle one iota. I agree with Ironblade on that one.
Stealth buff seems more likely -
I've just debunked your so-called study in my first post in this topic, much like the question that got you all angry in that other topic was answered by the second post. This thread was rendered useless for its intended purpose past that point, although it still does a good job at providing cheap thrills, such as seeing you trying to deflect a direct answer as invalid because it's based on ingame experience.
Again, you can't resolve a problem through maths if you ignore most of the variables. This is just common sense.
Another basic thing that anyone remotely interested in both probabilities and human behavior should know is that the more people try to refer to hard sciences and external sources in an argument, the less they actually know. Internet only amplifies this behavior through relative anonymity.
While we're on covering the bases, what's the difference between good math and bad math? Bad math twist the facts so they fit the model, good math twist the model so it fits the facts. -
You should spend a little less time telling people what they should do and a little more time actually playing the game, as casual playing would tell you that the probability of burst damage happening is 100%. We call it "jumping into a group", or alternatively "being a scrapper".
