One of the (many) unanswered questions about Going Rogue, and by far the biggest for me, has to be will Praetoria only cover levels 1 to 20 (and some 'endgame' ?)
Right off I'll say I won't mind (much) if it does. I love the low level game, and spend most of my time on it, but I sometimes suspect I'm in the minority in this, especially as far as forumites go, and I admit that I wince at the thought of the reaction if it is confirmed that the new shiny is only the first 20 levels.
But this isn't intended as a GR speculation thread as such. I'm just wondering if the impression I get is correct, or if it's skewed by a vocal minority?
So do you like those first 20 levels, or do you regard it as a tiresome pre-travel power, pre-stamina, pre-interesting enemies grind? -
I don't mind that the latter two powers of the Flight pool aren't available to Warshades, but having Teleport as a travel power and not being able to get Hover is annoying, since I find Teleport virtually useless, except for crossing an entire zone, unless I can run Hover at the same time.

Quote:That's a bit harsh. Yes there are more farmers on Freedom, but that's only to be expected since there's more of everything. Even at the height of the AE craze I could usually get onto a mission team if so inclined, and those tend to attract good players who enjoyed a challenge.I'd alter this to say Freedom is the most Farming-focused. It has been called Freedumb, Farmdumb, etc. If you want to be on a team that tends to have no tactics, only sees red, and acts like a bull-in-a-china shop while possibly ending up with a group of players that want to run the same mission ad naseum, then Freedom is the server for you. I highly discourage any new player from playing on this server unless you have come from WoW, etc.
I play on all of the servers so I'm not speaking as a Freedom loyalist, but it's PUG Heaven (and, okay, sometimes PUG Hell.) -
Quote:<<< Nightshade Legree. Thugs/Poison MM.-Another minor question: What is the most FUN (not *best*, most *FUN*) build you've ever played without stamina?
My original and main character, I played Nightshade all the way to 50 without Stamina. I didn't miss it (arguably because I didn't know what I was missing) and found a blue insp or two would get me through anything other than an extended fight with an elite boss.
I have respec'd to take Stamina since hitting 50, after having some problems with End on an ITF and particularly the final mission of the Reichsman SF. I dropped the teleport pool to fit it in.
One thing I won't do, on any character, is to postpone taking other fun powers in order to be able to take Stamina at 20, so most of my characters only end up with it in the mid to late 20s (except for Bots/FF, which I can't imagine ever needing it. Standing around watching your minions do all the work doesn't cost a lot of End.) -
Nightshade's bio (which oddly I've never gotten around to writing down) has her as a corrupt New Orleans cop who skipped town to the Rogue Isles when internal affairs were getting too close, so her pets all got their names from tv cop shows - The Sweeney, Life on Mars and The Professionals.
Regan, Carter and Tyler (the suicidal arsonist)
Bodie and Doyle
Hunt
I also have a Bots MM named Dr. Download. He's a nerd, and a big fan of a certain superhero team...
Posibot, Mantibot, Synabot
Sisbot, Numibot
Statesbot
I've had a couple of "Wait, what?" moments from fellow villains when they notice those names -
Quote:It just occured to me that when I wrote Dom I really meant Mind Control Doms, of which I've made so many it barely occured to me that there are other Dom primaries. In any case it's a pain when a major faction has lieutenants that are essentially immune to your controls (well, there's always Confuse I suppose.)That's actually one of the few advantages Gravity Control has. Just start tossing them around like ragdolls since they lack KB resistance.
On the subject of another faction, someone mentioned the Wailers. Yes. They all look the same give or take minor differences in size and coloring, and they're not scary, and they should be. But then St Martial is, in general, the only redside zone I don't like. Given the ideas behind it (Las Vegas, with demons) it should be weird and awesome and scary and it really isn't. -
Quote:Thanks for reminding me of that thread. I've used it before, some time last year, to get rid of the "A HA!" that accompanies the female Provoke. Might take a look at that. You might want to look over this thread. I used the information therein to customize the sonic sounds that bothered me the most.
Either that or I'll come up with a concept where making annoying noises is in-character. -
Mostly a question for the altaholics I suppose.
I've recently rolled a lot of new alts, and amongst them I've been trying various powers I've never used. Stone Melee and Stone Armor I can finally face since Power Customisation now allows me to change the visuals I really disliked, and the same will be true of Spines. I've found Gravity more enjoyable than expected (though I still dislike Propel) and Trick Arrow is a lot more fun than it seemed on the power select screen. There's only two powersets I'm still hesitating over.
Sonic Blast. For no better reason than I hate the sound effects.
Empathy. Even on characters who team I like to know that they can solo, and Empathy is a horrible set for soloing.
So, is there any powerset that you just won't play? -
I want a Washington D.C. zone, so that my villains can reenact the White House scene from Superman II.
Kneel before Zod! -
Yes, lucky us. Just reading that sentence gave me horrible flashbacks to my run ins with those Chief Plasma Scientists. I can't think of anything I'd rather less face in the pre-20 redside game (except for Fortunatas on a Dom...)
-
1. Will I be able to roll a new hero of a redside AT and start at lvl 1 in Atlas Park, or vice-versa.
2. What is the exact level range of Praetoria?
(Those are my big two, and will be the main influence on how rapturously I greet GR)
3. How many zones will Praetoria consist of?
4. The Clockwork in the herocon demo didn't aggro until attacked. Will this feature be added to the existing game where apropriate?
5. ...and what do the rest of the Praetorian AVs look like now? -
Quote:It is.Unfortunately, most Event missions generally lack for enough participants after the first few days, and almost nobody is interested in the last few days. Which is too bad.
Like I said, I enjoy the events, but they seem to go on for an awfully long time at the moment and people lose interest. It's like GMs. I always feel a bit sad when someone is trying to round up a team for (e.g.) the Paladin in KR and are met with a resounding 'meh' or worse yet, deathly silence.
Then I go off and try and take it on with my lvl 10 blaster or whatever I'm on, with predictable results. But debt is a small price to pay if it means giant robots aren't allowed to roam the streets unopposed -
Quote:If they'd done that people would have spent the last six months or more having fits about the low amount of new content released in 2009.They should have announced it January 1st, then the wait wouldnt be so looooooooooooooong.
(Well, alright, they did that anyway, but they'd have done it more if they hadn't known about GR.) -
Mercy Island has just been hit by the Deadly Apocalypse - an event which requires you to defeat a fairly high number of invasion coded enemies and then destroy 4 banners (which I recall have EB hit points) scattered all across the zone, all in, what, 20 minutes?
There was a total of ONE villain in the zone, a level 2 stalker, so... um, yeah.
I like zone events, I really do. You can never get too many Rikti, but the DA is absurdly beyond the power level of low level characters to do anything. I can't even pick off the ocassional enemy, since the invasion code is, at that level, a joke. A 'minion' has almost 3x as many hit points as me, and being hit by multiple stuns and immobilises at a level where any sort of status protection is a long way away is not fun.
If this event has to keep running, can it at least be restricted to the higher level zones? -
Quote:Since so many people are (allegedly) going to move all their characters to Freedom in search of easier teaming it'll be even worse next 2XP weekend, since there will be even more people trying to log in than there are now.On another note, does anyone think these free transfers will reduce the number of "I cant get into Freedom for Double XP weekend, the devs are evil!!!!!111!" posts?
This of course proves that extending the free transfers is all part of an evil dev plan to blow up the Freedom server. -
There's a 'Heart of Darkness' Badge, isn't there?
Only it occurs to me that last year I thought of a character who'd really want that badge, but the event was almost over by the time I thought of it, so I didn't have time.
And a year later I still haven't got around to even rolling that character.
So... good to have it back, for that -
-
No bugs, but the game has given me a few shocks, such as my first ever encounter with the Devouring Earth in St. Martial.
"Hmm, those are odd looking trees... wha...?! /faceplant." -
I remember a couple of posts from people hoping that the scene in the trailer where Desdemona's flames change colour was a hint that power customisation was on the way.
And I remember thinking they were reading way too much into it -
Ever since I got my first villain and then first hero to 50 I've never been able to focus on any one character for any length of time. So, in an attempt to organise my roster, 3 weeks ago I started a new batch, of either unused concepts, or rerolls of my non-50s. So far I've started 34 new characters, across all ATs, and thematically linked (more or less) by server.
(It's just as well that I enjoy the low level game...)
Too many to list. I expect I'll end up using every powerset at least once, though since I pick powers to fit concepts some are getting a lot more use than others - 5 Claws and 4 each of Mind Control and Energy Blast. No single AT seems to be predominant yet, but I find Scrappers, Stalkers and Brutes are the most common 'fit' for my ideas, and Defenders, Controllers and Dominators the least common. -
I like the idea of a breakout event.
I love this idea. Imagine if you showed up at the event and found you were fighting one of your own characters. -
The Circle of Thorns. It's not that I dislike their existing stories, but they are massively overused and in the second half of the game I spend so much time strolling casually in and out of Oranbega I start wondering why the PTA doesn't run a train service there, it becomes so routine. In the early part of the game they're one of the scarier enemy groups to face, but post-40 they're pushovers compared to say Malta, KoA or Arachnos, so I'd definately toughen them up a bit.
(...and get them out of the Portal Corp parking lot.) -
Quote:I'm really hoping this isn't the case. Personally I enjoy the 1-20 game as much as, if not more than, the second half of the game, but it's clear there's a lot of people who regard those levels as just something to get through before the game gets 'good'.The side-switching arcs will probably be playable at all levels, and there may be some 45-50 content, but Praetoria is basically just 1-20.
1-20 only would be burned through in a matter of days (hours for some people) and after 20 levels of shiny new Praetorian goodness it'd be a bit of a letdown to be forced back into the same old Paragon City content that is really showing its age. -
Quote:I'd be astonished if NCSoft announced any plans to merge servers prior to the release of Going Rogue. Server merges are pretty much universally regarded as a sign that the game is in trouble (recent examples such as SWG, WAR and AoC seem to support that) and to drop that bomb in the run up to GR would be absolutely nuts.I would not be surprised to see some CoX servers shut down before the release of Going Rogue.
I'm very unlikely to use the transfers myself, but I'm happy to take it as a sign that NCSoft are happy enough with the state of the game that they don't feel the need to try and squeeze every last $ out of the players. -
So in CoH we're continuing to get for free a feature we expected to pay for, whereas in a Certain Other game they're having to pay for a feature they expected to get for free.
