No people here need to chill out. They're just words. People can use what words they like. Seems to be that it's "it's alright for some to use "straight acting" and not alright for others". What is "straight acting" by definition changes slightly wherever you go. For many young people it's simply not acting camp and we have gay comedians to blame for that.

Graham Norton is camp. Alan Carr is camp. Lucas is camp. Chris Colfer from Glee. They're camp and it pays the bills. If they were to act straight then they probably wouldn't be so successful.

Camp by definition is more insulting than straight acting. Straight acting is a preferable word for me to use than "normal" and there is no need for me to say that as in "what's popularly accepted as normal around atleast 70% of the world" as people get my meaning.

I have been lucky to find a great SG (GGRRR) where we have a great cross section of of all types of "mature" players and where the most important issue is always friendship and respect.

I do not have exclusively g-a-y friends in RL and so enjoy the diversity of a mixed SG (race, gender, nationality etc.) and the COH community is what makes this game the best I have ever played.

However, there are times when it would be fun to have a team, conversation, meeting etc. that had either a g-a-y theme or mood. Just like the Gay pride parades around the world your sexuality is not the issue - your attitude is.

So how about a camp cossie contest in AP or a "Mr/Ms Paragon City".

Possibly a way to bring people together would be a global chat channel for those of us who would attend g-a-y themed events? Or just add me to your friends list and lets pass the word amongst ourselves.
Oh so the necroposter likes campness. I mention straight acting. People find that insulting. The necro poster mentions about campness...Go figure.

My G,L,Bi, BLT loving friends don't mind me differentiating between them as straight acting or camp, maybe because I really have literally grown up with one who was so gay from the get go since they were atleast 5.

We take the UK and split it up. Imagine the best from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in one team? (I am not analysing this) What I am trying to say is that if we were united as UK then we would probably really rock the boat but anyway save the time for that when needed. I don't know why we can't be united but it probably has something to do with Scottish independence. I bet the Scots got paraletically drunk celebrating the US drawing with us.

You have to cheer for your team!! Howard was brilliant, end of story, brilliant! Then there was the pace and dispossessions. Honestly the US team was really hot. I will look forward to watching their other games. The only lackings lie in the shots on goal, the amount of, their direction and the power, other than that, they was well good especially with the dispossessions.

I agree that USA "brought it". I was really impressed and pleased. The better the competition at the start the better the wake up call. I just feel that if England knew long before the game who they are playing with (edit:team mate wise) then they will get it together like a team should. Greens fumble could be a blessing in disguise for us and the US *crosses fingers*.
  8. Some people will be bored not only in doing the maths but in doing the feat itself. Then you've got to ask yourself do I like to brag or open peoples minds? I think that when it comes to the possible people really expect to be impossible it's nice to offer the wake up call. I myself would have trouble getting out of bed for this kind of thing as I prioritize team efforts for some unknown to me reason, just the way I am.

There is one thing an Invuln can do that other tanker types can only "dream of!" but there are other things that those other sets have niches with, so it's fairly even. The one thing I will say with Willpower is that it is best suited with someone who will gauntlet very well, be slightly ahead of some teams, knows how and when to mitigate alphas for themselves and for more flexibility picks up taunt.

I don't know what your server teams are like but if they're mostly with a rad or earth type then that is different, most people without such types in teams, still hit their targets I find. To build to need a certain set in a team is like building to need someone else as a crutch. I don't ever have more than base -def and no one on any team make up has struggled tohit.

A good thing to know when playing a TA is your enemies. I tend to find that you don't need a lot of accuracy as a TA (certainly not 80%+ and I didn't get devastations in BA may as well 6 with Thunderstrikes) because I -def npcs and in picking the target to -def an npc I pick the target of the group most easily hit. You can set up macros or binds to auto target. As I have altitis I work of macros, one being /Macro -def, "$$targetname xxx, $$targetname xxx, (and so on)" so that I target an easily hit target. In playing other characters that have effects that rely on tohit I have had to come to know which targets are easiest to guarantee getting that effect out.

Debuffs fail more the higher the level you face but really the best xp/time for teams is usually not that high (+2s) and in TA'ing for teams I tend not to be dealing with higher than +3.

Getting the road map to face France in the world cup is what I want from England. I'd be happy with that. So tonight was a good result as it does leave the path to France achieve-able I think as USA is a likely top two in the table. My cup is half full with Greens fumble but I do feel that our players need to know who they're playing with far more in advance. If anything our manager could blow it for us.
  12. It's secondary heavier than primary. Then you got acrobatics that is for kb and hold resisting which suggests to me that your in the middle of effects when teaming. Again middle of enemies with world of confusion being a pbaoe.

So this is a very different TA to what I would be playing. The logic behind it is down to you (not necessarily wrong) unless otherwise you wish to see examples of other peoples builds. I see TA as a ranged set when teamed and the defender isn't amongst the AoEs unless there is a complete lack of aggro control.

Your def is upto 35ish with ranged +FA which is good for you in teams that don't keep aggro off of you.

I think you have overbaked in doing -def. From a team mates perspective. So many people see to it that they have good accuracy that you may as well focus on anything else. I could be wrong, there could be differences with the teams we play in, but I really feel that especially with stacking -def you can go OTT. I would slot Oil slick for damage and recharge +bonuses and increase the teams survivability by reducing their fight duration slightly but its up to you.

Poison Gas Arrow is a -Dam debuff and thats a very good debuff. I am a fan of secondary effects and even a small amount can matter alot as they will be stacking with other peoples builds. Other defenders may do a lot more in secondary effects but often it can be overkill as only a certain amount is needed.
  13. I disagree on attaching a timebomb to an enemy. I prefer to see it changed to a toggle that if you dont detoggle it, detoggles itself after the 15 secs so it can be a either a timebomb or detonated. The detonated bit is more or less just setting the time to detonate yourself.

I really don't feel any other powers need to be adjusted in the name of anything.
  14. @Logan Storm

The reason in my mind that a Scrapper is a poor mans tank is that it doesn't hold aggression as well. It's not necessarily a matter of survivability. Even if you can hold aggression the aggro cap is 17 touch and go and some people can't seem to be able to stay out of perception range of 18th, 19th etc npc in the room to even capitalise on that.

It's that portion that's in question here. Everything else you mentioned about how sometimes you want to play other sets? That's kinda irrelevant because it's personal preference. That's something we can't do anything about.

I can't make you want to play TA all the time. It's just something only you can do and it applies to everyone. So it's pretty much a moot point. There's no reason to discuss it because there's nothing anyone but you can do about it.

BUT we can make it so that TA performs on an equal footing to those other powers. Again, this is the reason for this thread.

And... this is all completely subjective and does not deal with the underlying issue that you even agree with: TA is underperforming.

So you had to learn how to play with/as TA? So did everyone else. That's kinda par for the course for any powerset.

I didn't like to say that TA needed tweaks without extolling it's good points. At the very start of this thread I said that the set needed some tweaking. Then I extol some of its good points and people raise an issue... I disagree with reports that are totally negative without any positives where reasonable because it paints a biased picture to outsiders. Upon extolling its good points I get problems. I think the dead horse has been dragged far enough.

My saying that I sometimes wish I would rather be on a TA is down to the team probably performing better with a TA. That's not irrelevent that's extolling TA amongst the negativity of all the over fixes. Over fixes are over the top fixes suggested.

We can't really affect player performance since there's too many to try and "normalize" and there's just way too many variables.

What we can try to fix is powerset performance. We can get the numbers tweaked here and there so it doesn't come down to player skill to bring TA's powerset performance up to other sets' performance.
From a powerset performance perspective I would have to have all of the TAs powers used over the years to form an opinion - which I have. I don't know how many other TAs have every power in the TA set but I will say and agree that with the general team dynamics that I see in game, that I get the picture (that other TAs may also see from other servers see and limitations that lie within) that other sets do well or better with less powers than TA does but I will say for sure once again that, there are times in teams that I think I am on the wrong defender (it's by how people around me play) and sometimes its the TA I wish I was on. Different defenders, different dynamics.

Performance has to based on not on how we are doing individually but how we are doing as a whole. When you have pug teams killing the anchor asap (which TA doesn't have to be worried about) I guess it has to be counted. What ever is the rule on one server or one supergroup may not be on another. When I came to the game I had to learn my powersets and I had to learn to play within the realms of how other powersets can support. TA came along and nothing changed with my outlook.
  17. They're all soloable I think depending on what versions you deal with.

You also said that no team anywhere needs a Defender ever, and you'd be happy to run an STF with no support whatsoever. To that I point up to the above paragraph about "not everyone."

So a Defender who stands at the entrance and picks his nose in every mission still wouldn't be underperforming to you. Because it's impossible to underperform "not even necessary or needed at all in the first place." You're saying TA doesn't underperform, while at the same time saying nobody needs Defenders anyway. So their performance level is completely irrelevant in your argument. If you already play at a level where no degree of support whatsoever is EVER necessary, then the amount of support given by ANY character is completely irrelevant.

You saying it doesn't underperform means nothing, since your expected performance level is already zero. Unless the Defender ran around aggroing enemies while running Group Fly or something, no player according to you could ever underperform.
You guys still take a lot of what I say then add to it. Your putting things in there that don't exist. You have an opinion generated from what you read that is not actually what is in reality.

This is why I got I bored with this thread.

In future if TA is balanced (fixed) I may as well just come by and just tell people to learn to play.

As for a defender at a mission door say picking their nose, they'll be underperforming, not the set. It's irrelevent. I treat all defenders equally, I'll utilize what they have to offer. I have all buff/debuff sets too. Sometimes I could be wishing I was off my Rad and on my TA. It's all swings and roundabouts.

Reminds me of Guild wars where you get a battle cry that buffs defense or something. I don't know what
  20. Gauntlet if I try and visualise what it would be in real life, would be an attack that makes an opponent turn to the attacker from being particularly annoying. Why scrappers don't have a version of it I don't know really. I would of designed this game differently. *Cleans the whiteboard.* Anyway I take it in this game the gauntlet is a glove, that has an effect of knuckle dusters which result in tissue disruptions and possible fractures. With not all tankers having a DoT aura, perhaps gauntlet could have a DoT effect, the effect of feeling the pain of an attack that's happened and done it's damage again (no more damage taken just pain felt) but then anyone fighting a tanker with an interruptable power would be stuffed so maybe a chance for.
  21. Ultimately the difference between my tanks and my brutes will be damage. Damage buffers, who can also aid a Brutes survivability well enough, might be looking for Brutes in their teams more. There will still be players who completely overlook anything game mechanical. I'll do Fun this year, not speed, not duct tape, just accept any invite and play.
  22. I've got the Going Rogue pre ordered but I am holding back on leveling a Demon/Thermal Mastermind until Going Rogue comes out. It's purely concept and it will be fun for me. I did get to test this way back so I know. I just would like new content to level one up with.

The team came to the conclusion that it was my toon that was the weak link but would not say why. My little girl loves to play her but I do not want her having problems playing teams.

    Thanke for the advice.
Can it be built strongly? Yes

Is it worth the effort? Subjective. Only you could be the judge of that as we don't know your expectations.

A bad ITF when your 35: Don't let it phase anyone, it's a challenge. It's content where you might or cant help but could do with more powers at 35 but others in your team might do too. Many do this at 50. Should your little girl be playing then that's not what other adults will be expecting however that is no excuse for any adult misbehaviour.

You may want to get Mids Herobuilder if you already haven't and perhaps we can help advise on making the build more durable without being too less fun.

    Time bomb

I have had time bomb on one of my characters for 5 years+ which is a long time. I like the power. There was another thread on this which asked for a change too which involved timebomb being a toggle type power that say detoggles self after the 15 secs so it can act in the same way, but after the interrupt time you could detoggle it yourself so you effectively detonate it right away. I thought that was a good idea as it's a good change that is highly unlikely to upset anyone.
