Quote:I don't perceive that as a relevant point since factional inf will never equalize on its own.Has anyone looked at whether 1 influence blue-side = 1 infamy red-side in terms of actual purchasing power? I have a notion that they are not equal and merging the market will also have a total-side impact on the value of the inf on that side.
Open the floodgates and whichever faction is at a theoretical disadvantage will rapidly make it up thanks to the world of new opportunities presented by a merger. -
Quote:While I agree completely, RP reasoning is one that can be particularly thick headed. Asking someone to justify the markets period with RP reasoning leads to all sorts of unpleasantness I consider akin to starting a discussion in mixed company on politics, religious faith, etc. My line of thinking there was to point out that, so far, the devs haven't gone down that road when justifying the split markets, for which I am, so far, thankful.
Oh definitely- bringing an RP rationale to a serious discussion is akin to bringing a ripe banana to a gunfight.
But here, among sane folk who know the score, its something I feel comfortable mentioning. -

Quote:It felt less diverse because it WAS less diverse.Half-Life 2 is just significantly shorter and with more length to each segment, making it feel less diverse.
It was a much shorter, smaller game with less to do, which was a direct result of the tremendous visual polish they gave it. Maps had to be small and linear so people's computers wouldn't blow up trying to run them.
Quote:Now, Half-Life 2 plus its episodes, that's a different story. -
Quote:As someone who enjoys occasional farming, this is still accurate.Farmers are looking out for their crops; not out to have a good time.
The entertainment value is usually in the efficiency you're earning rewards at, not in the gameplay itself.
The exception, for me, is DA farming. In our modern age of MA and adjustable spawn size and super sidekicking etc etc, it is no longer a wise use of game time from an efficiency standpoint.
But I just love blowing up giant spawns of zombies! -
Quick update-
the blaster in question is about to hit 50 & has 500 million banked (which should jump a good bit when I cash in all his merts on random rolls)- once he caps out I'll start marketeering in earnest to build capital for the softcap respec.
/edit
as he's gotten closer to 50 I've become more enamored with snipe.
hitting the toughest enemy in the spawn with Surveillance, then sniping followed by Full Auto is a thing of beauty.
Rolling at +0/x3 I no longer even worry about carnie illusionists because they don't survive long enough to zap me. -
CoH has maintained a consistent presence on the shelves of my local Best Buy since I picked up my copy at launch lo, those many years ago.
I've never quite understood the wailing and gnashing of teeth about the lack of "marketing" for the game. It's been out 5 years and was never one of the 800lb gorillas of the genre, I'm not sure what people expect out of NC. -

My thinking is "CoV kicked tons of ***, so will GR".
There isn't any evidence in the track record of our current dev team to support the belief that it's going to suck, tank and sink the franchise.
Heck, even assuming it does suck and will tank, the franchise will be fine. It's certainly not going to drive players away.
I'm as critical of the devs as anyone here when they screw something up.
But anticipating disaster in this situation is just dumb. -
Quote:I think we all knew they wouldn't stay low even if they went down, because of the change, right on I16's heels, doubling the earning power of 50s.
Oh that's right- ok, I don't feel so bad about my prediction now. =P
The Goat cracked 1,900,000,000 this morning- its safe to schedule his Inf Cap fitting. -
Are purple prices actually rising?
I haven't been paying attention.
If they are, so much for my bold pre-I16 prediction that prices would return to pre-AE levels.
Oh well, the Goat is about to hit the cap so no biggie. -

Quote:and fewer resources are available for everything that isn't graphics. As games become more and more detailed, working on them becomes more expensive and time consuming.....
I like graphics just fine, but using your example I'd much rather take Half Life with me to a desert island than Half Life 2.
I enjoyed them both, but for me the lengthy, in-depth storytelling of HL trumps the more immersive visual experience of HL2. -
Quote:Of all the many, many, many delusional, detached-from-reality proclamations you've made on these forums Ryu, I think I love this one the best. They have professional writters already, so coming up with the story shouldnt be the hardest part for them.

Quote:Just in case it is unclear: I wrote the original blog article. For all those who complained about the author having a lack of knowledge about CoH/V, of being ignorant / a jerk / a DOOOOOMmonger... Hello.
Of course, I'm just spinning my wheels here on the forums, not writing articles for gaming web sites....

I'm not sure how eiscounting what amounts to a bunch of unsupported outsider speculation makes me a Pollyanna....but I'd sure look cute in a blond pigtailed wig!
Quote:EDIT: Because if GoRo doesn't bring a sizeable number of players into / back to CoH/V, NCsoft is pretty unlikely to keep maintaining current resources into Paragon Studios for this title. At last official check, there were less than 125k players in CoH/V and I've got reason to believe that this number may have further declined.
I don't care if the game grows or how much money NC pumps into it, I just want to doors to stay open so I can keep playing. I was content with the updates we were getting before the recent big push- a return to those days wouldn't bother me.
I'm confident the game is healthy enough to keep chugging along basically indefinitely, whatever reception awaits GR. -
neither of the smiley sets were any good. it's like someone spent 80k on a spiffy new sports car then slapped on the rims from their '87 Chevy Colt.
-
Quote:No it isn't.But, the article that leads to NCSoft's response was really, really good.
Unless you like unsupported hyperbole, I guess- "Make no mistake though: CoH/Vs future hangs by a Going Rogue thread"? Ridiculous.
It's negative speculation by a fan writer, no different from the sort of junk that piles up on this forum except for being less informed on the current state of the game. -
Quote:I'm not so sure you should be hoping for that - GR is an expansion, not a stand-alone game.
Given the improvement in the tools available to the devs (MA is for them too, after all) it wouldn't surprise me if they delivered near-CoV levels of mission content, at a higher level of quality.
There is a difference between game and expansion, obviously, but I expect them to put a LOT of energy into the 'storyline' of GR. -

Quote:Low level specials that provide effects people would REALLY want to exemplar down with them attract a premium price.Check the realized prices vs. level for any Celerity or Unbounded Leap +Stealth IO to see what I'm referring to.
And yes, I agree that max-level is where the massive supply is, but I contend that I consistently see evidence of significant minimum-level demand on procs that are much in use such as the +Stealth and others.
But the supply is......just ridiculously low, even for a very patient fellow like myself. I flipped low level Celerity Stealths for a bit, also some of those Blessing of the Zephyrs, and it was a LOOOONG wait for bids to fill, even covering the whole range up to level 17 or so.
Of course when they did the profits were fantastic- the Zephyrs were filling for 40-ish mil and selling for 100+ mil.
But the pace was too slow even for my extremely sporadic play schedule.
Mostly, I think high level stuff is pricier because that's where the action is.
