Quote:Heh, the instant someone dons a power ring their life is very much on the line. The ring doesn't make one invincible after all.It happens in Action Comics when they were doing weekly anthology (i think that's what it is called) issues. Not sure if she said he should do that or if it was oprah but he did appear on an Oprah style show and he said he doesn't feel fear and that he is like a cop...which got a negative reaction due to the perspective that Hal isn't risking his life due to the ring.
.
Yeah I remember now, it was that talk show story that prompted Hal to use his ring to make himself feel fear. Many suspect that was the door in which parallax got in.
The whole Lord Malvolio thing could also be said to be a Sinestro/Parallax mind attack on Hal since it got Hal to be without his ring and had to use deadly force on Malvolio.
The alien Priest and all the things he did with Hal could also be seen as a Parallax/Sinestro attack, especially the GL special issue where a Guardian and a Zamaron took a friend of Hal's hostage and made it clear his friend would die unless Hal kills Priest. Turned out it was all an illusion, no Guardian, no Zamaron, even the planet Oa was fake and it was all a mind game of Priest to see if Hal was "contaminated" after his encounter with Malvolio and from using Malvolio's ring.

Waller is a Justice League and apparently Superman villain type...I've yet to see her in the 7 years of Superman comics I've read so far though >.>
For those of you who don't know there are 3 GL movie prequel comics...
Tomar-Re which has him chasing down a bad guy and fighting him on the planet the movie opens to.
Kilowog which focuses on how legendary various characters are, establishes some of the "new" recruits, but more so focuses on a psychic telling the guardians something bad is going to happen
Abin Sur which focuses on Abin Sur arresting a criminal for transporting stuff through the Sol System...and he makes a mistake by leaving the cargo behind which crashes to Earth...The rest of this focuses on a young Amanda Waller fighting the machine virus and her winning, and Abin sur being impressed. -
Quote:She works for the government/CADMUS which tends to be involved in researching of new weapons, new tech, superhumans and aliens.Yeah I was curious why they had Amanda Waller in there...isn't she mainly a bad guy in/against Batman (or just the JL in general? I only know her from the JL/JLU cartoons
).
Afterall, wouldn't the govt. love to reverse engineer Abin Sur's ship, or imagine if they tried to get a power ring for study and reverse engineering? -
Quote:Man would I love to see that.I'm surprised there hasn't been any art come out of Spider-Man knocking the **** out of Quesada.
Also I wonder if we will get a story that starts the undoing of all the OMD/BND/OMIT garbage.....perhaps Kang or Immortus warning Spidey of the temporal consequences of the deal with Mephisto? -
How about Peter Parker avenges himself against Joephisto?
-
The fact that Donner was replaced as director midstream didn't help the first two movies, especially number 2. Superman 3 and 4 are best forgotten.

Quote:Yes, I remember this, not sure if it is still canon though with all the GL:Rebirth and Parallax stuff. Back when GL had no series of his own and was relegated to Action Comics, didn't he appear on the Oprah show and Oprah suggest that he use the ring to allow himself to feel fear? Supposedly that was the door that helped let Parallax into Hal.
Oh btw... The Power Ring actually restructures Hal's brain we find out in one story which is which is the explanation as to why he is such a great GL. Abin tells the ring in such a way as to force it to find a successor among humans, it can't find one good enough in enough time so it creates one that is perfect in Hal Jordan...
Of course there was the whole Lord Malvolio incident as well, where Hal ended up with his ring destroyed and was forced to improvise a weapon and use deadly force against Malvolio. Hal then takes Malvolio's ring as his own and flies off and Malvolio reveals he is very much alive and that it is all part of a plan against the Guardians..... -
Quote:Hal's origin and backstory since GL:Rebirth restored him and the GLC doesn't quite fit with Emerald Dawn. That's the thing. Hal ISN'T a screw up or a jackass.
He's angry at the world due to his father's death and that pisses off his older brother. To get away from that he joins the military. His contracts a fatal illness and he want's to go see her before she dies. The military won't allow it so he knock's his commanding officer on his *** and is kicked out, but makes it home too late. So he is angry at Feris and angry at himself when the story starts and he has a "people who get near me die" thing so he's a loner. This leads him to be semi-suicidal and bent on proving his worth, not to others, but to himself... Everyone else considers him the perfect soldier/pilot that is not only willing to do risky things but able to do them.
The company he works for is bought by Ferris and everyone quits due to not liking Ferris. He is asked to come work by Carol because she knows he is the best. They get into fights because Ferris is struggling to maintain the company and Hal tends to blow up/crash experimental planes.
if I remember right there is something about DUIs in there too, but that is hardly a "screw up" but rather what an average pilot is like so that also is not a "screw up" in that sense.
His jackassy appearance has more to do with circumstance than who he is which is coupled with a self hatred and determined focus to do what he wants.
I liked that too... too bad it lasted all of 3 minutes or less. -
Quote:I think this movie gave us more the Emerald Dawn Hal Jordan rather then the post GL:Rebirth Hal Jordan. The character as portrayed on screen which is not Hal Jordan would act the way he acted at that second...
Hal Jordan wouldn't have though. He would have went looking for answers.
In Emerald Dawn: Hal was so screwed up by his father's death that he was an arrogant jerk who could barely keep a job at Ferris aircraft and got drunk at a bar and caused an accident that left one friend in a hospital and him facing DUI charges when the ring chose him. Tomar Re told Hal that all GL's have a past as it were and that they must overcome it to be a true GL or some such.
Hal's current origins kept a few things from Emerald Dawn such as watching his father's plane go down but he didn't turn into a drunk screwup from it, he was always confident and felt fearless since watching his father die was what he considered his greatest fear and having seen that, what else is there to be afraid of? -
Quote:What is he supposed to do? Curl into a fetal position on the ground in fear and suck his thumb? GL's are chosen for their ability to overcome fear/being fearless. If a new GL transported to Oa caved into fear I daresay the guardians would rip the ring right off their finger and send the person back to their planet. So, Hal Jordan is summoned by otherworldly technology to encounter a dying alien being, transported across the universe, and awakens on another planet clad in a wondrous energy uniform. And how does he react to these awe-inspiring experiences?
Well, as played by former standup comedian, Ryan Reynolds, he playfully struts and poses, watching himself in a reflective crystal surface. Argh!
Warner Bros., you are the same studio that served as reverential caretakers of the Harry Potter property; why did you desecrate Green Lantern?!
In the original Tron, FLynn gets zapped into the computer and his first thought was "this isn't happening, only think it's happening" he soon found out it was happening and he reacted with the Kevin Flynn style of humor that the character had at the time. -
Quote:Pure WIN!Haven't seen this anywhere else, so hopefully I'm the first to post it:
Chinese Iron Man
I love this line: -
Quote:if you are seeking the RV AV badges, have some incarnate powers activated and slotted then send out a call that you are forming a league of incarnates to "Test your Might!" in RV. You should be able to get a lague of incarnates looking to test their might against them.Well, it took a while to get here but I finally managed to snag badge 1200 this past weekend with of all things Demagogue. That's what I get for dragging my feet on side-switching: I still have four day jobs and four day job accolade badges to go. I would rather be hunting monkeys, honestly.
Hopefully I'll snag a Barracuda this week and cross that one off, but I'm starting to contemplate attempting to solo some of the ones that just aren't coming my way. Like the two higher red side respecs. Just for "fun" I figured out how to solo the RV heroes at 54 - in the AE. With PvP rules in effect my energy blaster is basically a walking talking paper target. Soaked in gasoline. -
Quote:Saw the clip, he plays Hector Hammond who gets called in to examine the body of Abin Sur, the GL who passed his ring to Hal Jordan. So the guy that plays the bad guy in GL (I never read the series so I don't know his name) was on Conan last night and in the clip they previewed (where he first sees a GL dude who is dead, I think) in the background the set looks SOOOOOO much like a Portal Corp set! It was pretty crazy. Don't know if you can get the clip seperate. I'll look.

All PB powers that have KB should be changed to KD

Quote:Mileage variesOf course, you could reach perma-dom with IO's alone and keep hasten. While 123% global recharge is nice, Hasten is still going to keep you long recharging mezzes coming up faster, likewise for useful utility powers such as Drain Psyche or Sleet. So even reaching this level of global bonus, I'd still keep Hasten.
You're also missing the more impressive perma-dom, perma-hasten, softcapped builds. It's a difficult goal, but totally worth it in my opinion. -
Quote:Stacking dom doesn't really help much but it does look nice seeing those 2 to 3 dom icons.Permadom I'm pretty sure is available in every powerset combo possible in the archetype. I want to ask this though: What about Double Domi? Is that capable of being made permanent? And if so, is the Double Domi stacked naturally? Also, can every powerset pull it off? I ask this because a fellow player I know plays an Ice/Psi Dominator, that on occasion is capable of 'Double Domination'.
As to permadom, presenting once again (whether some like it or not) in DBZ style the Three Stages of Permadom:
Dominator: "first I thought I'd teach you a couple of things about permadom starting with the basics"
Enemy: "Don't bother, I never asked you to explain a thing."
Dominator: "trust me, you are gonna love this! This is my normal state...."
powers up domination
Dominator: "This is a permadom, 70% recharge from IO sets and 3 to 6 slotted recharge in hasten depending on your preference. Decent build, risk of power crashes if hasten and dom aren't monitored closely in battle."
Powers up again.
Dominator: "This is what is known as a Permadom that has Ascended past being a Permadom, or just call it Permadom 2. 90% recharge from IO sets and 6 slotted hasten and you can have permadom and permahasten, a better build and the risk of power crashes is lessened. But just wait...it gets better"
Scene changes to Recluse and his Lieutenants:
Ghost Widow: "Has he really found a way to surpass an Ascended Permadom? Is that possible?"
Mako: "Ah he's just bluffing!"
Black Scorpion: "Yeah, that would make him double ascended? Big deal."
Dominator begins to power up "AND THIS............"
Lord Recluse: "?? What's he doing?"
Dominator: "Is to go EVEN...FURTHER.....BEYOND!" Insert 10 minutes of yelling at the top of his lungs while powering up and everyone is too dumbstruck to do anything but watch.
Dominator: "Sorry that took so long, it takes time to power up like that. In this form, 125% recharge from IO sets and you can throw hasten out the window. This is what I call a Super Permadom Three." -
Quote:Krona is the top scientists of the race that the guardians are. He tried to find the secret of the beginning of the universe which was prophesied to cause a massive disaster when someone did see the beginning of the universe.
He accomplished it and was banished... he has come back several times and been captured, locked away, and banished several times...
Among other things he is the one who created the technology of the GL rings, created the lanterns, and has recently taken over the entities and the guardian and merged them... and taken over the GLcorp...
Currently there is a massive event happening in the GL books that many are ignoring where in the Earth GLs have all had to take the rings of other corps cuz their leaders have been put out of commission and the GLC was mind controlled...
Basically Krona is a good guy in a way...he thinks the Guardians have lost perspective and wishes to over throw them and put in their place the Earth GLs.
In other words...Krona = one of the most important characters in DCU history being the trigger of CoIE, the trigger to creating the various corps, and the trigger to the whole Blackest Night thing by proxy of causing the Red Lantern's sector to be decimated by the Manhunters.
Not sure if calling Krona a good guy is accurate, but I do agree with his view that the Guardians have lost their perspective. Also recent GL issues have dropped a few hints that Hal initially being infested with Parallax way back in GL VOl 3 #50 was indeed allowed/permitted by the Guardians, something I've suspected before. Also in GL:Rebirth even Parallax called Ganthet a liar and that the Guardians allowed him to escape via Jordan.
I think the GLC could do rather well without the Guardians, and perhaps a few new Guardians in charge could be good. -
Quote:Precisely. But Luthor's monumental ego just keeps getting in the way.If Lex Luthor has taught us anything over the decades, it's that fighting Superman is like fighting a nuclear war: the only way to win is not to start.
Though I did like the JL episode with the Justice Lords where President Luthor had his finger on the button and Superman said there was at least 6 ways to stop him and Luthor said "But they all involve deadly force and you don't do that do you?" he then lectures him about how deep down Superman loves being a hero, the cheering fans the swooning women and that a hero needs a villain thus Superman is Luthor's most reliable accomplice since Superman never crossed the line and stopped Luthor for good.....until that moment when Superman felt that Luthor was right and charged up his heat vision.....
However in defense of that particular Superman, the world was on the brink of nuclear armmageddon and Luthor's finger was right on the button. -
Quote:The way Max Sterling could integrate with his veritech and make it work so smoothly that it truly was an extension of him might be a good example of this.An important thing to remember with Superman is that even if you can equal him in every facet physically his brain still operates faster than yours so it is a necessity to have AI and/or train your body to move at the instinctual level and to self induce the "flow" state. you can only equal Some Supermans in this aspect with real world devices (as far as we know) by tons of martial arts training, multiple AIs in the suit, and a neurologically linking system...
Depending on what superman we're talking about we can only accelerate to a certain point before it no longer is capable of keeping up no matter what.
However let's also remember that due to Superman's upbringing, that he is not a killer. He CAN kill but he chooses not to, thus he holds back a lot.
Two examples:
1. End of JLU "I feel like I live in world made of cardboard! Always taking care not to break something or someone, always afraid of losing control because someone could die!" He then cuts loose on Darkseid and gives him a super speed falcon punch that sends Darkseid through several buildings.
2. Batman/Superman Public Enemies: Superman watches the missile with Batman at the controls fly into space to smash the meteor. He then glares at Luthor, stops Luthor's kryptonite powered punch, crushes the gauntlet on Luthor's wrist and says "That was my BEST FRIEND.....and YOU JUST KILLED HIM!" One punch sends Luthor flying into the wall, he coughs blood and then looks up and sees Superman stalking towards him and realizes the mistake he just made of angering Superman and tries to fly away. Superman chases him around the world, ripping the suit apart as they are in flight. -
Quote:I can see sustaining one 200g smack into a wall, lucky guy. But more than one, and dependably? Not so sure about that.
A force field would be nice, if it existed. Air brakes... not sure they'd be useful within 10 feet, or even 50. And that assumes they weren't even deformed enough to prevent their deployment...
The materials idea, again, if a material existed, it might help... but again, repeated concussions at the level of football hits cause long term Traumatic Brain Injury; we may be talking 10-100x these forces over and over and over.
I still think any solution is significantly beyond what we can imagine today, and akin to magic (by which I mean tech that isn't easily linkable to current tech.)
Also, forgive my ignorance, but someone above mentioned that the grey hulk wsa semi-immune to alcohol - is there a connection to Supes? (<--noob.)
Someone else I believe posted about getting Superman alcohol poisoning or somesuch presuming he isn't immune to it. I posted the Grey Hulk incident where Grey Hulk sucked down a store worth of booze so that his own immune system wouldn't burn off the effects right away and when he reverted to Banner at sunrise, Banner was tanked. -
Don't forget all the "duck and cover" warning commercials they had for when a nuke went off.

Quote:Super strength / shield does fine, sure there are some combos that may perform better, but SS/SD is far from being the red headed step child set.I remembered a while back when SD came out making a SS/SD toon and I loved playing him. I then started mesing around with mids with a build and wow well it looked insane to me. The defense numbers and recharge was staggering, now I have been reading the post on the best farmer and I don't even remember the SS/SD AT ever being mentioned. Does the build not work like mids is showing it should or are their problems with the toon that I am not seeing? Or is /fire just that much better? Talk me out of rolling this toon because It is going to cost me a fortune to build!
My own SS/SD does just fine and will be even better once I finish obtaining the missing IO's for it's respec. Of course having installed Tier 3 Cardiac kind of helps with the stamina issues too -
The ability to transform into a giant form. I want the ability look a GM like the Kronos Titan or Adamastor in the eye and say "Pick on someone your OWN size!"
Also something for masterminds to gain the ability have their pets merge into a gestalt. -
