Lusca is Co-staring in an upcoming Giant Monster Movie . I hope this doesn't interfere with any Paragon contracted appearances.

I can't believe the producers of this movie neglected to put frickin' lasers on the giant sharks head!

  3. [ QUOTE ]
The need to slow down, however, is a disadvantage not shared by the scrapper. That's a sign of imbalance. This is also why I don't like the argument that Defenders have an advantage in buffing others, and that they pay for that by not having much offense or personal defense. Being able to buff others is not an advantage when solo. Thus, a solo Defennder is more disadvantaged than other classes, and that isn't fair.

The same applies to Tankers relative to Scrappers in this case.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If I recall correctly, during the installation of the game from the CDs, the various splash/info screens that pop up include a little stub of info on each class. I'm certain that in those stubs, the one about the scrapper actually says the scrapper is the easiest to solo.
That being said, the game was not developed so each AT are as perfectly capable as the other. The original design was to build ATs that were team synergenic. The idea of how soloable each AT took a lower priority then how well do the ATs function together.

It was not a point on the Devs part to make each AT soloable. The point was to promote teaming. That doesn't mean by design there are some ATs that cannot solo. All ATs can be soloed, but some are more challenging and require far greater patience and attention to detail then others.

I have 4 Level 50 tanks. Fire/Fire, SS/Invul, SS/Willpower, and Fire/Ice, I can't say that Endurance is a major issue with any of them except for the Fire/Fire. (Currently they are using either all SOs or all Common IOs, no IO set bonuses).

When looking at taking down a specific number of foes, each AT, by themselves, will take a different amount of time to do it. Scrappers should be able to do it faster then tanks. They simply are not meant to be equal, or equivalent. By design it is feasible that a tank could encounter a foe that they they can fight to a standstill but lack a point or two of damage to defeat. The same foe under the same circumstance could feasibly be defeated by a scrapper. This is by design. (Although, the design was conceived and implemented by humans, and therefor cannot be perfect)

While so far the promise of Enhancements has...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ok, there's the key to your quandary right there.

Here's something that will help you be less perplexed, confused, and/or uncertain.

There are two elements of a sentence, idea, or communication that, when both are present, automatically render a statement false. Those elements are 1.) Where a poster is making a statement regarding something a Dev said, and 2.) the presence of the word “promise” in any of its modified forms, ie. “promising”, “promised”, “promises”, etc.

If only one of these elements is present, then the statement may, or may not, be true.

So, any time a forum poster, be it yourself or anyone else, uses the word the "promise" or "promised" in regards to something the Dev's said, you can automatically regard it as false. (Under certain circumstances this could also include a post by a “Dev” or other “Redname”)

    Here's an example:
"The Dev's promised that they would raise the level cap to 75 before the year 2010"

*Buzzer sound* The above statement is false. Note that it is both 1.) referencing something the Dev's said and 2.) contains the word "promised" (I bolded it so it's easier to spot). Having these two elements together renders it automatically false.

Note: Exceptions to the rule exist where a poster may be attempting to correct a false statement made by another poster.

Example: “The Devs did not promise to raise the level cap to 75, ever!”

The point is... the Devs are not in the habit of making “promises.” They know that even the best laid plans can fail. Making a promise for a new function, feature or whatever can backfire, and unseen problems can be cause for not being able to deliver.

Thank you everyone. Now then let me rephrase my question. Which class completely dominates and is incredibly enjoyable in PvE? Mastermind or Brute? I don't want to play one of them and then start getting bored even though I am blowing through. I want to play a class that is incredibly fun to play and deals a lot of damage.

Also if I go MM which would be a good combination?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Honesty, no one can give you a rock solid answer to this question. "Fun" is subjective. "Fun" is different to different people. Some people love brutes, some people hate them. Same for every AT.

We can tell you that ?/? Brute is best... but really that's best for those us who find it fun. You might not agree once you played one so many levels.

That being said, as others have pointed out, Brutes are a good start for a new player, they can deal the damage and get through missions about the fastest, solo. (Assuming SOs and no IO Sets). Masterminds are a very close second, and some players with tons of experience might outdo a brute.

I enjoy soloing both Brutes and Masterminds. I wont assume you will too. Give em a try.

Also, it is entirely possible that this game may not be for you at all. I love this game. My sister played it for about a year and moved on to another MMO which she enjoys more. I tried that other game for about a month and could not get into it.

Thank you. All these fictional scenarios are just stupid.

Every platform has a way of adding a password to safeguard your PC when you leave it. They're just making up lame excuses because change is so scary.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Do you have any facts to back up your claim that the "excuses" are actually due to change being scary, or did you just make that up?

    Villain Empaths?

    [ QUOTE ]
Wasn't Pain Domination made because Empathy didn't fit the villain "theme"? With the new expansion it looks like villain empaths will become a reality. Now again, what was the reason villains didn't get empathy ported over?

Sure pain dom is a fun set, buts its basically a rehashed emp with the powers they really wanted swapped for something else. Now that it seems like villains will get emps, the whole reasoning behind Pain Dom makes no sense at all now.

    [/ QUOTE ]
So... you've never heard of Good Doctors becoming mad, evil Doctors?
There is still a question of flavour. Pain Corruptors have "heal" powers as a secondary, not a primary. So their heals will be weaker then Emp Defenders. Also their damage dealing blaster powers are Primary, making them much more powerful and a Defender's. So a Pain Dom Corruptor is more like a blaster who can heal rather then a healer who can blast. I think this distinction will appeal to some players.

Also consider that nothing perfect. The ability to switch sides is not a bad idea just because of Empathy/Pain Domination overlap.
  8. I have a Spines/Invul scrapper and a friend of mine has a Claws/Regen. Before IOs were introduced into the game, we raced each other clearing a level 50 Family map. He went up one side, I went up the other. Then, when we finished, we reset and traded sides and raced again. Spawns were level 52. To pad up the number of foes, we had 6 teammates, but they remained at the door (not because they were PLing, but because it was a race between the claws and my spines)

Although his Claws scrapper can kill a boss a little faster then my Spines can. I cleared whole groups of foes nearly twice as fast. I would clear up my side and round the top and start clearing down his side meeting up with him as he was about 2 thirds up on his side.

Spine's AoEs and Cones simply make it tons better at dealing with large numbers of foes then Claws. While Claws can kill a boss a faster.

I'm not sure how you would work that into your balance suggestion.

  10. [ QUOTE ]
The "security issue" reasoning has always seemed somewhat weak to me since other MMOs allow immediate logout to character selection and have not suffered security issues as a result. If you are playing the game in an environment where your system can be compromised, you probably shouldn't be playing the game there at all.

To me, it just feels like a "forgotten feature". But if the security issue gets trotted out by a dev, I'd settle for a compromise that made the logout take only 15 seconds instead of 30.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well, there are some things to consider...

First we are talking about human beings here, and if humans, by nature, never did what they were not supposed to do, then we would not need things like: Laws, police, Courts, lawyers, jails/prisons, locks for our homes and cars... this list is gonna be long, so I'm just gonna stop there. But since we need these things, we are obligated to occasionally do something we are not supposed to do. Some feel more obligated then others.

Then there's the family home with the shared computer. Consider this:

Johnny's whole family love and play CoX. Each family member has an account of their very own. However, the boys, Johnny and Biff who share a room, have to share a computer. Johnny's turn is slated for the next 2 hours. After about an hour of play time on CoH, Johnny has to go to the washroom, so he makes a dash for the lavatory.

Biff, who is Johnny's older brother, and like so many typical older brothers likes to pick on Johnny and make him cry, sees Johnny's unattended CoH game running. Biff decides he's gonna play a fun little joke on Johnny and deletes every toon Johnny has.

Done in the washroom, Johnny returns to the computer and upon seeing what has become of his beloved toons, begins to cry. Biff thinks to himself "Yes, I was right. That was fun!" and grins so hard his face aches. Dad contacts CS (customer service) and tries to get Johnny's toons restored.

CS sighs heavily, then explains that while they are sorry for the misfortune of Johnny's plight, they cannot restore Johnny's toons since he was not playing the game in a secured environment. They explain that if they were to restore Johnny's toons, they would then have to restore every toon that is deleted under similar circumstances where the account holder fails to play the game in a secured environment. NCSoft would then have to hire permanent staff and pay out 57 billion dollars to restore all those maliciously deleted toons. And, since NCSoft does not have access to that kind of bankroll, they'd have to increase the fee of $15.00 a month, to something like one million dollars a day, which may not be feasible for a rather large portion of the current subscriber base. This could lead to so many players leaving the game, they would have to shut down.

They continue to explain that although NCSoft could apply for a 57 billion dollar business expansion loan, NCSoft has already considered this option and decided they'd rather simply shut down all the servers and pull the plug on the whole game rather then restore Johnny’s toons.

Dad gives Johnny the bad news, that his toons are gone for good. Johnny begins to cry again. Biff is all ROTFLMAO. Dad, for a brief moment, gives serious consideration to the penalty of beating Biff, and makes a bad choice. Biff's in the hospital, Dad's in jail, mom is left at home alone with crying Johnny, and a family is torn asunder.

Although we can't guarantee to prevent this tragedy, a simple security step in CoH can help prevent NCSoft from pulling the plug on the game or raising our fee!

I might have exaggerated a little bit in there, but maybe you get my point.

    Cheers!

Possibly, but I'm not convinced. Becuase, Dark Servant and Singularity can attack and be attacked yet we can walk through those. So, I'm hopeful.

I believe the Devs have simply adopted the mantra of "No matter how impossible to stop, we must never give up and turn a blind eye to Powerleveling. We must continue to work towards eliminating it."

Why would the Devs adopt such a belief to practice? Because if from the start, they did give up, if they turned a blind eye to the PL the likelihood of the servers being shut down before Villains was released would have been far greater.

New players would have joined and found that it was nothing but City of PL and after one or two toons PL'd to 50 they would have become bored and left. Older Players would also have become bored and also quit.

So, now some of us are patiently waiting to see how the Devs will deal with the current MAFE (Mission Architect Farming Environment)

    [/ QUOTE ]
I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario. I have a brother in Toronto, Ontario, and a sister in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In these 3 cities, Future Shop, Best Buy, and EB Games get NC Soft Time cards in too few a quantity, and on a very irregular basis. When I inquired at Walmart about NC Soft timecards, they gave me a look like I had spontaneously started speaking in a dead language.

These cards are so troublesome to find that I gave up and now use a MasterCard Debit Card. As for Visa Debit Card... In Canada, they work just fine. (Yes, even the MuchMusic Prepaid MasterCard works just fine.)

But, like so many others have explained, once yer 14 day free trial period is over.. the free part is over. To continue you must either start a whole fresh new trial account which means no access to yer current characters... or you must buy a game code and upgrade your trial account to a full subscription account, and pay money for each month you wish to play. The upgrade of a trial account will allow you continue with the characters you created in the trial period, and give you access to other ingame systems such as global channels, make your own team, join an SG, etc.

    Welcome, and good luck!

  16. This is by no means an etched in stone, sealed in cement, done deal. However, in this thread Oathbound had a suggestion. I liked the suggestion and PM'd it BaBs. (Thanks again OatBound! Great idea!)

    Seeker Drone problem

    [ QUOTE ]
They should just disable collision detection on Seeker Drones (make them so you can walk through them, like Singularity and Dark Servant).

Sure you'll occasionally see the Seekers clip through someone or something, but that's a trivial side effect for bots not getting stuck on them anymore.

[/ QUOTE ]-- as said by Oathbound

Sorry if yer not the guy to send this idea to. But it is a great idea! I mothballed my Robotics/FF MM cuz the protector bots keep getting hung up on their seeker drones. I've taken my MM out recently to see if the bug has been fixed and, sadly, it has not. This suggestion just might do the trick though. Is it feasible?

    Back Alley Brawler's response:

    I think that's doable.

Oathbound, you just made the Good Idea list!
  18. [ QUOTE ]
....Why suggest they implement a workaround to a bug instead of just suggesting they fix that bug?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Mostly cuz this bug is older then Keith Richards. (Yes, that is an exaggeration, but many will get the point!)
  19. So, after dusting off my level 40+ Bots/FF MM and playing it a few days, I found myself just as annoyed now as I was when I mothballed it because of the Protector Bots constantly going missing. Well... not missing, but missing in action because they keep getting hung up on their own Seeker Drones.

I have now taken to dismissing the AWOL Protector Bot and recasting him, which really is not a happy fun solution. Sometimes, I find myself waiting for the Protector Bot to recharge from the last casting before I can recast another. So I was thinking... perhaps the Devs might consider decreasing the recharge time on casting Protector Bots, maybe even slightly lowering the endurance on casting them to help compensate for the constant dismissing and recasting of them?

This would save some power slots to use on powers I actually want rather then picking up powers I never intended to have just to compensate for the Protector Bots getting stuck. You know like Team Fly, or Recall Friend, or even Team Teleport.

Although effective as a work around for an annoying bug, its a shame to have to give up powers I want to pick up "Bug compensation" powers.

    Just thinking out loud
  20. [ QUOTE ]
...That's *not* stoked about Going Rogue? For me, I see less pros and more cons. Like, if defenders make their way to villains, corruptors will most likely be ignored. People will prefer Tankers to Brutes. Am I just being overly-negative?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I love my tankers.. and I love my brutes.
I want my tankers to have brutes Fury, and I want my brutes to have tankers survivability.

I'd totally play a brute blue side for the SMASH addiction. But I doubt I'd try tanking for a full team of 8 on DL5 (Difficutly Level 5)

I also enjoy the Defenders I've got, but I also enjoy the damage the Corruptors deal. I believe that it will come down to a matte of tastes. Some people will want to be defenders for stronger primaries. Corruptor's secondaries are, for the most part, defender primaries, and as such, are a tad less effective. But, the damage they deal with their primaries will out perform a Defenders damage. So I think it will be very much a matter of tastes.

Personally, I've been wanting to level a MM from 1-50 blue side since the release of Villains.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well, it doesn't work that way. See, the word "cracker" was not banned because it's trademarked or anything. Its banned because its considered an offensive term in some places. In Mission Architect, when you encounter a word that's flagged, read carefully why its flagged. Not everything is flagged because of possible copyright infringement. There's an "or" in the explanation.

As for copyrighting common terms. You can't do it. No one has a copyright on "Star" or "Wars", but together as "Star Wars" they can.

Intel stopped using numbers to name their processors when they learned they could not prevent anyone from using the term "586" to name their own processors. (Way back in those days there 3 big processor manufacturers and a 4th very small one. Ok 2 big ones, a medium and a small manufacturer.) That's when Intel came up with "Pentium" which is trademarked.

My arc originally was gonna be big. Until I found out about things like file size limits, and number of published arcs limits. So, I decided I have to limit my arc to 3 smaller arcs.

I've completed Arc 1 of 3. I feel confident its ready for publishing. I've not yet fleshed out parts 2 and 3. So, its gonna be a while before they are publish ready.

The Story Title will be formatted to indicate Part "1 of 3" etc. So, players would know its a series, and also be able to find the other 2 parts once they are finished.

I really want to publish part 1 now, but I feel like maybe I should wait until parts 2 and 3 are ready. That way players can run the whole story. I mean, it could be another 2 to 3 weeks before 2 and 3 are ready for players.

Looking for friendly opinions on this. Thanks!

It's commonplace in any serialized fiction. If you think it's ready, I say go for it. Plus feedback on the first arc may give you ideas or criticism that may apply to the other parts before you even put them out.

Ok, I think you have a good point. I am first going to finnish up writing parts 2 and 3 out in text. Once that's done, I'll publish Part 1, then Create Part 2 and 3 with feedback from part 1 in mind.
