  1. I quite often team with a friend whos a MAstermind, and I can tell you what I expect of his pets (henchmen, minions, call them what you will).<ul type="square">[*]I expect him to keep them out of sight of the enemy.[*]When I run around the corner to him, I expect his minions to be ready to take the agro off me from'whatever I hav pulled.[*] I expect them to bunch up nice and close so I can buff them and heal them[/list]
I don't expect them to die for the cause, because I hate unneccessary downtime. Personally I don't see why anyone has to die.. even the lackeys/henchmen.

Having said that, there is one time I definately expect them to tank. When we are down to an Elite Boss or an AV I know I need them to take the heat. Believe it or not, I'm quishier than they are, and whilst I know I can buff and heal them, and debuff the AV no pet has ever Buffed or Healed me, so in this particular circumstance I would much prefer them ahead of me (and if I do my job right, the mob they are fighting will be doing very little damage very slowly)

A /dark brute would possibly be the worst brute type for you to take on as a dark/kin corruptor. They are highly resistant to both your damage type and to end drain.

    [/ QUOTE ]
So its nice to know I can easily bring them to a virtual stand-still

You'll never beat a Scrapper or a Tank in 1v1, but with /Kin you can usually stalemate them if you're well slotted.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Strange statement to make - Kinetics is one of the best secondaries at Scrapper/Tank killing, at least on a par with Dark/Cold/Rad in general, and maybe even moreso in a pure 1 vs 1 scenario. Siphon Speed, Transfusion, Transference... all will cripple the opponent, especially Regens. Even my slightly wonky Fire/Kinetics Corr concept build - in need of some changes - can happily take out a Scrapper. The only issue with Kin is against multiple targets, where it suffers in comparison to the aforementioned sets.

    [/ QUOTE ]

On Saturday I spent close to an hour in the arena trying to find any way my Dark/Kin Corruptor could take down a friends Dark/Dark Brute. The first two things to note are that Murky Cloud and Dark Embrase (both slotted with +2 to +3 SOs) combined to give the brute 54% Resistance to Dark - I would have been better with anything other than Dark. The next thing to note is the level difference (36 vs 40).

This really did result in the affore mentioned stalemate..and the weapon of choice (for me) - Siphon Speed. I have it slotted Accuracy, Recharge x3, Slow x2. A single hit reduced the Brute to the point where I could easily stay out of melee range. Then it was a case of stacking it and watching the poor Brute crawl.. but no matter what I did I couldn't harm the Brute. Her regeneration, both Health regen and Endurance Regen far exceeded anything I could do. Even though I could stack 2 or 3 siphon powers, several siphon speeds, hasten and had all but one of my attacks 6 slotted I could not get my damage per second high enough to exceed her regeneration.

Also, my much loved tenticles became just another attack. They are wonderful for PvE, but against this Brute they just didn't make a difference. (Which I'll attribute to her combat jumping)

Having said that..in PvP I now know the technique. Slow the Brutes, Stalkers and Tanks and look for easier prey.

When I hit 40 I'll be up for a rematch.

All the heroes, at Pocket D, watching us? Great..the more the merrier. Should be a very full party then

I hate to be picky, but isn't the place just called "Pocket D"?

Well if you hate it so much there is a simple cure. Just decide not to be

You'd be surprised how much more relaxing life is once you've stopped being picky.

  7. Heroes..come celebrate St. Patrick's day with us Villains
We'll be in Pocklet-Ds (that cool trans-dimensional bar with the truck out the window, somewhere in the Shadow Shard).

Tomorrow could be a great chance to get out, drink a little (maybe a lot), and have some fun. Maybe let your hair down, take off you work clothes (spandex) and jive. We know you've got it in you, so come out and prove it.

Whirlmeister and some of his friend where planning to enjoy St. Patrick's Day (this Friday) with a little pub crawl and a few Guinnesses, starting at the bar in our base, moving on to the "Bonesaw club" (a.k.a. the Moneky Fight club) in Sharkshead. Then taking in the Giza bars, and finally a legless stagger to Pocket-Ds.

I was checking the route out last night and very disappointed to see Pocket-Ds absolutely deserted.

Come on guys..St.Pat's day tomorrow. We need to fill the place.

    Just to remind you..

    Tomorrow (Friday)

    Be there.

P.S. And I'll challenge any hero who wants to a game of pool (looser buys the Guinness

In CoH you can just about get away without superjump, teleport or fly but you'd need to be very careful in Boomtown and stay out of the shadow shards.

In CoV, you *need* one of those just to get around. They've made far more really high walls and thick groups of trees and such things then we see in CoH.

And its going to get far worse..read the decription of our forthcoming high level zone (Grandville).

Until we know how vertical 'vertical' actually is I wouldn't even consider starting a character with Superspeed only.

    Dark Kinetics

    [ QUOTE ]
I am just coming up to the point where I am thinking about respecing and the most likely respec looks like:

    01) Transfusion -Acc(1), Acc(7), Heal(9), Heal(9), Heal(11), Rechg(13)
    02) Moonbeam -Acc(2), Acc(3), Dmg(3), Dmg(5), Dmg(5), IntRdx(7)
    etc....

    [/ QUOTE ]
Just come back to this thread again, and realised how much I've learnt. Please, noone follow the above build which I recommened..its terrible. My current build is probably only suitable for respecing into since its very light on attacks in the early levels and will run out of End quickly without Transference, but its a much better build and may give you some ideas.

    ---------------------------------------------

Problems with the original build include:
    1) The medicine pool is a waste of slots - transfusion offers loads of healing potential, and with siphon speed, hasten and a rechange SO cycles very fast.
    2) Life Drain is useless - again as stated above transfusion offers loads of healing potential.
    3) Nightfall is incredible and should never have been left out of the build. Not only is it a good AoE attach, but its a very effective debuff too and works well with Tenebrous Tentacles
    4) With Siphon Speed and Hasten you can run through Endurance very fast..so Stamina is a must, as is Transference.
    5) Torrent just doesn't work well with Kinetics. You need immobolisations, not knockback. Knockback moves the enemy out of Transfusion, Transference and Fulcrum Shift range.
    6) Inertial reduction is fun to play with, but by level 28 everyone has a travel power so there really is no point.
    7) Considering the complete lack of status protection leaping works far better as a travel power than flight. Also if you take hurdle you can move very fast in combat without suffering movement power supression. Combat Jumping, Hurdle (2 slotted with Jump) and sprint is actually faster than flight (3 slotted) and is a great combination for escaping problems.

Hmm..looks like I've started critiquing my own builds. Anyway, trust me..the new build is much better.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
soo.. if i grind this guy up to lvl 40, use fulcromshift on.. oh lets say ghost of the scrapyard and his 40 companions, and drop a nova... what would happend?

if you have two kinetic corruptors, do their fulcroms stack?

think energy would go well with kinetics?

    [/ QUOTE ]

At a wild guess, you would fill the screen with little damage buff icons, so you couldn't see a thing, and gain all the agro. Then you'd hit Nova, take out a lot of ghosts, and gain even more ago from any which survived (you are bound to miss at leaast a few).

Fulcrum shifts stack, but dont forget there is a damage cap.Agains scrapyard and ghosts, you might just hit it.

Whether Energy works well with Kinetics comes down to what you want to do with it. Kinetics is often viewed as a Melee support set. If you are planning to support Brute and Stalkers you may find that the knockback on Energy blast makes it the worst possible set.

If however you are looking at Kinetics as a way of speeding up your own play, and boosting your own damage, then the knockback on energy blast gives you a degree of defence allowing you to keep enemies out of melee range.

Personally I feel Energy Blast is the worst possible combination with kinetics - anything else works better. When you need to be right next to an enemy in order to heal off him, drain endurance off him, or boost damage from him (in the fulcrum shift sense - not the Siphon power sense) why would you want to blast him to the other side of the room.

I picked Dark Blast because it did precisely the opposite of Energy. It holds them where I wond them. Ice would be another good choice, but I would avoid Energy or Assault Rifle which have a lot of knockback.

    E.V.I.L. Returns

    [ QUOTE ]
Hehe, I just like to say we were here first. I came up with this original name back in beta

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Found it !!

Which beta? I've just found clear evidence that we came up with the name a little before that...unless you are talking about the European CoH Beta, and even then its questionable which came first since the evidence I found would place our usage near the beginning of the beta. As a matter of fact its near some posts on whether to move to the European servers.

If you check the old US Virtue Server Forum for my old EPIC supergroup from before we migrated to Europe you'll find this post , dated 9th November 2004 :P

Interesting note - looks like CoV slipped quite badly..in that post we were expecting it in 9 months.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
In most of these i like to add a bit of roleplay to the game and was just wondering whether there are any roleplaying Factions/Villain Groups on this server or any other?

    [/ QUOTE ]

We'll I would strongly recommend E.V.I.L. (The Eurpoean Villainous Immorality League one, not the Every Villain is Loveable one), but I'm highly biased. There is a link in my signature, or you could contact Whirlmeister, Dark Impetus, Echo Hammer, Big Lunk or Screaming Skull in game.

You could also check out this thread: Roleplaying Villain Supergroups (CoV) which has a fairly comprehensive list of Villainous roleplaying groups. There may be something more to your liking.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
You didn't know there was a full timeline until I pointed it out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There is? I presume you're not refering to the official timeline which is obviously incredibly out of date, fails to take in any of the backplot from CoV or Web of Arachnos, and ends abruptly half way through the Rikti War. It doesn't even tally with the plaques found around CoH

If there is a complete timeline, I'd love to see it.
  17. One of my favourite CoV characters has a back story which had him with the skulls from the age of 12 through 18. As a result these formative years are central to his backstory, and have influenced virtually every plot he's been involved in to some degree.

Yesterday on the US website they posted the New Updated Villain Group Info on the Skulls
It makes a really nice read. Unfortunately it also contradicts certain aspects of my characters backstory and makes other aspects very dubious.

I'm probably going to change my character history just a little, to bring certain things into line, but there are some things I just don't feel comfortable changing because they are too central to the character..

Has this sort of thing happened to other people in game? If it was a tabletop RPG and I was GMing and a supplement contradicted something which had already happened I'd just ignore the new material, but in a game with thousands of players cannon becomes more important.

I'm curious about how others view this sort of thing.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
THere is another you I have noticed 2 corruptors do when teamed with a certain brute and that is to stand as far as way from her as possible when fighting CoT as the brute killing there speed boost resource is not a good idea.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm assuming english isn't your first language as some of what you say is a bit garbled...and the point you are making is that brutes (backed up with sipohn power, speed boost, transference and fulcrum shift) kill things too fast for corruptors to reliably target things?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I presumed they were refering to confused or decieved brutes hitting everything in range including the poor Corruptor, who is now Red (Hostile) to them. Combined with Fulcrum shift its quite concievable that the Brute will one shot you. So far I've only seen this happen once and it was against Rikti.
  19. The problem with buffing masterminds pets is that we havent got the tools to do it.

We dont have a graphical list showing them, that we can click on to select them or that we can look at to see which Buffs are in place.

There are no slash commands to quickly select teammates pets. /team_select can be used for teammates, but the nearest we have for pets is target_friend_next which would allow youto quickly cycle through everyone if they all remained the same distance from you. Also the only way of knowing if a pet is buffed is to look at it for the buff effects, which is impossible in the heat of combat.

The end result is that trying to keep a single henchman's big pet buffed takes almost as much effort as buffing an entire team of eight. To show what I mean, to buff a team mate I hit the appropriate key on the Numeric pad (eg Numpad 2 for the second team member), and then the appropriate key for the buff (eg 9 for Boost Speed. In order to buff a pet I either have to pick it out in the mess of combat or repeatedly hammer the key bound to target_friend_next until I select it. If it doesnt come up I have to assume I'm facing the wrong way, turn and try again. When I do manage to select it I have to figure out if it actually needs to be buffed (which is almost impossible) or just assume it does (a waste of Endurance) and then buff it.

I've found that having a key bound to pull the camera back to extreme istance helps with selecting pets because you get a wider field of view and have more chance of actually having the pet in that field of view. The truth is, its not worth it. I know for a fact I'm better of investing my time in more effectively supporting those I can more easily help.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Frankly, I'd really hate to see someone try to play a Kin Corruptor as a Defender, placing keeping everyone perma-buffed over actually using their primary.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I often team with three Brutes and playing as a defender is definately my best role whilst doing this. I just dont get time to shoot anything as they go down faster than my activation time.

Having said that, When I team with anything else I actually find that I'm an offensive powerhouse and my play style is very un-defender like.

I recently loaded up my CoH elec/defender and discovered much to my surprise that I had developed some very un-defender like habbits which repeatedly got him killed. They are definately very different beasts despite the obvious similarity.
  21. My approach has always been, if I'm in a Duo with a single Mastermind I do my best to keep him and his pets fully buffed.
If I have to cope with more than one other player, I buff the players, but Masterminds pets get AoE buffs and nothing else. The exception to this is any downtime where I have a full end bar I use cycling through the Mastermind pets (using a key bound to target_friend_next) and speed boost as many as possible, since doing this doesnt actually reduce my End.

    Dark Kinetics

Its been a while since I visited this thread and my Dark/Kineticist is now 15 levelos higher, so I feel I really need to update it with three new observations.

    Observation 1
Blackstar combined with Kinetics is awe inspiring. The sequence of Fulcrum Shift, Blackstar, Blue Inspiration, Transference leaves you standing in the charred remains of a pile of dead foes with most of an endurance bar restored. Those that dont die recieve a pretty heavy accuracy debuff and probably wont hit you anyway.

    Observation 2
As a Dark/Kineticist its vital to be able to move freely. This is particularly true for abilities like Transference, Transfusion, and Flucrum shift where you need to be able to place yourself just outside melee range but within the AoE effect. It is also important for laying down the double whammy of Tenebrous Tenticles and Night Fall. You will spend a lot of time running to the ideal spot. All this means that immobolisation which to most ATs is a minor inconvenience to the Dark/Kineticist is a killer. Combat Jumping is a godsend, since it stops you being immobolised. Having got this you may as well go on to get acrobatics to complete your status resistance.

    Observation 3
With this build you will find you are incredibly good at soloing single creatures, with your ability'dropping off rapidly with numbers. When chosing difficulty levels avoid the levels which increase enemy numbers. Tougher mobs is okay, but more mobs is a problem, and mobs with dark esistance (CoT, or Banished Pantheon are a real problem).

    Hope that helps
  24. [ QUOTE ]
I'm not going to look these up, so I'm assuming the kinetics effects you're describing have a To Hit roll?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Yup..

    [ QUOTE ]
If yes, then you take option A and 'leave yourself open to bad roleplayers.'

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is pretty much what I would do. I know perfectly well that if I missed againt a I'd just do it again..and again until it worked, or became damned obvious that it was never going to work, but I have no idea what the other player knows, and in a roleplaying situation almost anything could be in play (see the hologram example above).

None of the options feels entirely right though, so I think there are probaly two better ways to handle it. The first is to use any near by computer controlled NPC.

/e siphons speed from Sdney the bystander allowing him to run rapidly away.

or perhaps better still to handle it through a private tell, and work out how to handle it in advance with the other player.

    [ QUOTE ]
meaning that your option D is god-modding.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes it is. I would never do it, and would be surprised if someone else did, but probably wouldn't argue the case unless it was pretty significant. I was just trying to give the senarios form least offensive to most offensive, and determine where people would draw the cutoff point.

    [ QUOTE ]
Oh, and if it's really so important whether or not your powers affect a situation, I'd suggest taking it to the Arena and actually playing it out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really hate roleplaying in the arena, since they disabled half the channels, including emote and private tells. Having said that I've ended up there three times in the last week..twice because Heroes and Villains wanted to meet somewhere private, and once because we actually wanted to play something out using the game mechanics.

So far I've never actually found a non-fight roleplay moment in CoH/CoV where its actually made any difference whether a power (kinetics or not) actually hits. Having said that I still think its an interesting discussion and may some day have a bearing. I'm glad to see my views pretty much tally with yours
  25. And if you dont like us have a look at this post...

There are at least two other groups on the list that I know are atleast partially active, since I still run into their members.
