Dark Kinetics
the 3 early attacks in dark blast are useful in their own ways.
dark blast - standard attack, bit of dmg, low end cost and fast recharge
gloom - does more dmg than DB but is DoT. takes twice as long to recharge than DB tho and costs more end. generally 2 DBs = 1 gloom.
Moonbeam - sniper attack at lvl 4. highest dmg dealer (apart from Dark Star). obviously has longer recharge, higher end cost. the dmg it does is the equivilant of about a gloom and db. its sniper so can be interupted.
dark pit i've always found useless. the general opinion from most people is that it is no good unless it is heavily slotted with acc and duration SO's. so there is probably more useful powers u can take
Ta.
All Dark blasts have a -accuracy component. How much is it? Is it worth slotting for in Tentacles for example?
Have to agree dark pit, isnt that great, is a very situational power. Moonbeam and fulcrum shift tho is quite funny Thats funny in a horrific defiance-esque way.
[ QUOTE ]
I know Tentacles is a decent power and since it doesn't do damage it shouldn't attract the same hate as Fire Cages does for a Dominator. Am I right there?
[/ QUOTE ]Nope, it does damage.
Started this build over the weekend. My alt-itis is spreading...
Great fun until one of the numerous map transition crashes seperated me from the nice team I'd built.
Level 6 at the mo. Took all 3 blasting powers from Dark and the heal and Siphon from Kinetics. I was wondering about the debuff accuracy that Dark does. I can't find figures for it anywhere. Is it the same for all Dark powers? And do they stack with themselves?
If so I'm thinking of slotting Dark Blast with 3 to-hit debuffs, 1 recharge, 1 end reduc and 1 accuracy and stacking it to debuff lieuts / bosses in fights. Of course its a way off anyway since it needs DO / SOs to be effective.
Carnifax,
I'd be interested to know how your Dark/Kin build is going since I'm also playing one - he's now my favourite alt and may end up taking over as my main. I've found Dark Pit to be almost useless, but Tenebrous Tentacles have been an absolute godsend. The combination of immobilisation and accuracy debuff allows you to get a little range and pick away at mobs. Just enough range so they cant melee hit you but you can still transfusion them is perfect.
Also, with a little care about timing Moonbeam is a viable attack within combat. You just have to remember never use if against anything in melee range, and always use it just after they attack so it doesnt get interrupted. Against 3 or more opponents though its useless, so you just have to thin the numbers. Tentacles are good for this again. You just immobilise some and back around a corner, effectively reducing numbers.
This character is a very safe although slow soloer. There is no way he'll ever match the speed of my Brute or Mastermind, but he's a lot of fun to play. More important he's a brilliant team character. Speed Boost and heals make him highly desirable. He's also one of the most versatile characters I've ever played with high ranged damage, good heals, immobilisations that feel like holds, buffs and debuffs it sometimes feels like he can do anything.
I am just coming up to the point where I am thinking about respecing and the most likely respec looks like:

I'm also alting one of these.....heres what I think.
Dark Blast is very viable as you dont actually get a straight up direct damage attack other than this. Im lvl 18 and basically slotted do about 30ish with it which of course is 60ish scourged. I mainly use it to finish mobs that are very low on health rather than an expensive cone which is what Dark Attacks gets.
Gloom seems to be the partner in crime of Dark Blast, I cant even be bothered to tot up the damage on them both but its the other basic attack so well worth it.
Moonbeam...great damage but problematical to pull off in combat, possible but problematical....plus Im always tempted to blast a siphon power first to maximise damage but then I face the problem of not being interupted. Easier against some mobs thans others to pull off mid fight.
Tenebrous Tentacles...fantastic, reasonable damage and a must for not getting melee'd to death by slammers/tanks/swordsman etc etc etc.
Nightfall....I find it amazing in conjunction with Tentacles...ok damage, better when scourging...I like the numbers....
Dark Pit...I only recall this from my defender which I aint played since like I3...but its a disorient AE, I have one on my Super Strength Brute...its good if used right. Its NOT a [censored] power.
Torrent...havent used this in a LONG time so I wont comment.
In Kinetics Im only using Transfusion and Siphon Power as I play almost exclusively with my housemate and he doesnt need some of the other buffs, so Im ignoring them. Siphon power seems to be a fat [censored] damage buff but has fairly [censored] accuracy depsite being DO'd twice and transfusion is off as it PBAOE's off the mob not you, which as I have played with twilight grasp for the most part is a head maze.
All in all, I find this combination powerful..I solo fine and combi'd with a brute, amazing. We run a trick where we play to each others strengths...so he leaves mobs on low health and targets others and I mop up with Scourge around him...this basically increases his fury by leaving low health mobs still hitting him and increases my damage output by scourging which saves us both end as we make the least number of attacks to finish mobs. Seems to be a fine tactic so far.
I'd only like to add that Dark Pit is a waste IMHO. It's got poor accuracy, and the effect duration is very, very small. In order for this spell to be of any use, I think you need to slot it with 2 (I had it 2 slotted on my corruptor, and while it hit most white enemies, anything higher was a pain), if not 3 accuracy and 3 duration enhancements. And I think even then it wouldn't be that much good.
So still plugging away with this build. So much that Veloth is now my main villain, being more fun than the Mastermind he was designed to complement.
Dark Pit I think is something you need to heavily slot for it to be majorly useful. I took it anyway and it is useful for getting aggro off your back for a few seconds.
In work so no build really available but so far I've taken all primaries (wish I'd skipped the Snipe though as I rarely use it...) and all secondaries bar Repel which I've no need for (I don't PvP). Siphon Speed is a great power and I hope to slot for stacking it ASAP (slotted for +Acc at the mo as theres nothing as annoying as it missing).
Skipped the Travel powers (well actually got Hover and was getting Fly when Mr JingleJet appeared) which could be slightly painful until level 28. Hopefully thats not too far away though.
Yup, hitting the 20's with mine now. Still enjoying it very much. A couple of things I've noticed.
I struggle like crazy against CoT...they just have too good a def and also resistance to neg attacks. Avoid majorly if your solo'ing.
Siphon and Transfusion seem to have low accuracy rates....at least thats how it feels to stuff like twilight grasp, so slot em up for acc as its a real pain when it missses which they do ALOT
Snipe I use all the time, unless Im trying to solo pull with siphon power its my main opener and with a little timing you can get them off mid-fight too.
My slotting so far has been damage orientated and with hasten I can really chuck it out. So I've taken stamina to try help compensate.
I'm ignoring some of the of the kinetics, speed boost, inertial reduc as I took hurdle and superspeed but speed boost will be my next choice at 22. I'm also thinking about assault to keep pumping that damage higher.
One thing I've noticed is that unless I want to waste a cone attack on a single target I am missing an attack out in the dark blast/gloom cycle...theres room for another in there. I'm going to take life drain and hope that it fills it in.

[/ QUOTE ]With double/triple/quadruple-stacked siphon power (you have siphon speed for the +rech, right?), and later fucrum shift, assault really doesn't give you any noticeably damage boost.
Doesnt say that Siphon speed gives a +recharge, so no I haven't taken it on that basis.
Assault 'should' give me around 10% damage increase just off the bat though ? ....without having to stack siphon powers etc. I dont want to look at my damage output as a massive strings and mirrors setup..I wanna pump a siphon power and off I go with a well enhanced damage output by having good slottage on my damage, enhanced recharge with hasten and siphon power and assault handing out damage boosts with the possibility of damage inspirations too.
Siphon speed very muchly does have +recharge for yourself and -rech for enemy, damn good power for that, I think you can get near-perma-hasten with it. As for assault, I think it's something like 12-15% DAM buff, whereas few siphon powers will get you to 50-80% and a good fulcrum way over 200%, so while it still adds something I'm not sure if it's significant enough to justify the power slot and the END cost (although if you want tactics to up your accuracy and for PvP then I'd say take it as a pre-requisite).
You sure Max ? I logged on to check the description and siphon speed only says - foe spd, you + spd.....Speed Boost states a +recharge though.....Im leary of taking it without knowing as I dont need the speed component itself.
Well, everywhere I know it says it does it, and all kinetist guides (post-I4, when the effect was added) say it too.
Just felt the need to jump in here, interesting discussion.
I have a lvl 33 dark/dark corrupter and a lvl 50 fire/kin controller and so have experience with both sets.
From the dark set i have found only the first 5 attacks to be really useful...life drain does too little damage and heals too little to be viable in either application. The Nova (Blackstar) i think you will find far more useful than i as you will have less worry of having all your toggles drop (though the -acc is HUGE on it), AND you will eventually have fulcrum shift, the god power which will make it very nice.
The tentacles (slotted for damage btw) and nightfall combo is extremely potent, and spamming these 2 attacks can wipe out huge mobs very nicely. Also i haven't felt a need for adding -acc in there as it seems to stack noticably after a few hits and kept me safe way before i picked up darkest night.
As for kinetics, oh please god pick up siphon speed, in these post-ED times it is a godsend, slot it 2 acc 3 recharge (everything in kin at least 2 acc, heal with 3) and you can stack it 2-3 times in a heated battle. combine this with hasten and it is indeed almost perma still (i never notice it drop on my controller). So thats a big fat yes to it having a +recharge buff (i think maybe 25% - not sure but less than hasten) which can make your powers recharge in crazy time allowing you to spam more lovely tents + nightfall. The damage from this might not seem much to start with, but i use it on tar patch (-res) and the numbers fly. This should work similarly well for you once you pick up fulcrum.
repel i picked up partly to fill in power slots and it is nice in PvP (best stalker mitigation you can get - plus headbutting people out of the way is just fun however you look at it) but the power 6 in kinetics are siphon power, siphon speed, speed boost, transfusion, transference and fulcrum shift.
As a side note i'd recommend slotting (if you can) and end reducer in siphon power as it's a bit of a hog (i hurt when i exemp - transference is so nice it's hard to remember life before it)
Just my rather long 2 cents there, have fun with this build, it will rock eventually, mark my words

Don't you just hate it when a powers description is ambiguous....but the benefits do seem to be potentially overwhelming.
When I pop my hasten i can pour damnation on groups of enemies by quick fire of tentacles and Nightfall. So keeping that kind of recharge up is a priority for me. Im about to hit 22 so will probably choose a kinetics power as I have my travel and stamina which is all I really wanted from the sub pools. Everything now is just gravy.
Whats peoples experience of Torrent ? I have to say I do love my cones...can this be used to push groups over, then follow up with more tentacles and nightfall while they are recovering and then repeat ?
Well, I dinged 22 and the siphon speed on the power selection screen does indeed state that it decreases your enemies speed and attack rate whilst boosting your own. So it's just a discrepency between the power selection description and the mouse over power description from the powers bar.
Still, it clears it up and I can now take it (which I did) with confidence. Im hoping that once I deck out hasten with 3 SO attack rates and an acc and attack rate in siphon that it will let me keep hasten up a lot longer.
Torrent...hmmm.
I took this power twice on my bubbles/dark defender and specced out of it twice. It does minimal damage, but ALOT of knockback. I found it to be useless for knocking mobs onto tar patch as it had the tendency to throw them right over it. I beleive the KB distance has been changed recently (dont quote me on that). It could be useful in 2 circumstances that i see....as a "get out of my face" power, or for herding mobs into a corner. It also has a relatively high -acc on it so i guess could be slotted for that.
If you like KB powers then you will like this, it is far superior to gale (which isn't saying much) in every way. However most of the time it will simply frustrate you and mess up your lovely cones. Maybe if you have nothing better to take...but i would recommend that you either try it on test or take it just before a respec in case you hate it

Yes...just tested it again. If you've never seen a mob fly, right up to the sky...then this is for you

Its been a while since I visited this thread and my Dark/Kineticist is now 15 levelos higher, so I feel I really need to update it with three new observations.
Observation 1
Blackstar combined with Kinetics is awe inspiring. The sequence of Fulcrum Shift, Blackstar, Blue Inspiration, Transference leaves you standing in the charred remains of a pile of dead foes with most of an endurance bar restored. Those that dont die recieve a pretty heavy accuracy debuff and probably wont hit you anyway.
Observation 2
As a Dark/Kineticist its vital to be able to move freely. This is particularly true for abilities like Transference, Transfusion, and Flucrum shift where you need to be able to place yourself just outside melee range but within the AoE effect. It is also important for laying down the double whammy of Tenebrous Tenticles and Night Fall. You will spend a lot of time running to the ideal spot. All this means that immobolisation which to most ATs is a minor inconvenience to the Dark/Kineticist is a killer. Combat Jumping is a godsend, since it stops you being immobolised. Having got this you may as well go on to get acrobatics to complete your status resistance.
Observation 3
With this build you will find you are incredibly good at soloing single creatures, with your ability'dropping off rapidly with numbers. When chosing difficulty levels avoid the levels which increase enemy numbers. Tougher mobs is okay, but more mobs is a problem, and mobs with dark esistance (CoT, or Banished Pantheon are a real problem).
Hope that helps

Just come back to this thread again, and realised how much I've learnt. Please, noone follow the above build which I recommened..its terrible. My current build is probably only suitable for respecing into since its very light on attacks in the early levels and will run out of End quickly without Transference, but its a much better build and may give you some ideas.

Problems with the original build include:
1) The medicine pool is a waste of slots - transfusion offers loads of healing potential, and with siphon speed, hasten and a rechange SO cycles very fast.
2) Life Drain is useless - again as stated above transfusion offers loads of healing potential.
3) Nightfall is incredible and should never have been left out of the build. Not only is it a good AoE attach, but its a very effective debuff too and works well with Tenebrous Tentacles
4) With Siphon Speed and Hasten you can run through Endurance very fast..so Stamina is a must, as is Transference.
5) Torrent just doesn't work well with Kinetics. You need immobolisations, not knockback. Knockback moves the enemy out of Transfusion, Transference and Fulcrum Shift range.
6) Inertial reduction is fun to play with, but by level 28 everyone has a travel power so there really is no point.
7) Considering the complete lack of status protection leaping works far better as a travel power than flight. Also if you take hurdle you can move very fast in combat without suffering movement power supression. Combat Jumping, Hurdle (2 slotted with Jump) and sprint is actually faster than flight (3 slotted) and is a great combination for escaping problems.
Hmm..looks like I've started critiquing my own builds. Anyway, trust me..the new build is much better.
Hi all,
i'm thinking of starting a Dark Blast / Kinetics Corrupter. Basically I was thinking of a char thats a Masterminds best friend, specifically a Necro or other melee types.
Don't really care about PvP for the moment so that doesn't come into it really.
From Dark I was thinking just Gloom and Moonbeam from the 3 starting "blaster" powers. Or should I take Dark Blast instead and drop Moonbeam starting out?
Dark Pit / Tentacles seems to be a 2 part hold. I know Tentacles is a decent power and since it doesn't do damage it shouldn't attract the same hate as Fire Cages does for a Dominator. Am I right there?
Is Dark Pit useful anyway?
Can't send a potential build since I'm in work but all suggestions are welcome.
Cheers
