Quote:Dang. I've just recently moved up from an average 17" 1024 x 768 screen to a 22" 1920 x 1080 widescreen, and I'm still gaga over it. I can't even wrap my head around using a 40" or bigger screen...I was considering bumping my monitor (26") up to one of the new 40" Samsung LED's. I've played the game on my 46" plasma and it looks stupid good but because of the screen size it just isn't practical.
So I was wondering if anyone is playing on a 40" or above TV and how it's working out for them. -
Quote:It's clear to me that VidiotMaps.com and Badge-Hunter.com are two of the most used and most respected sites in the CoX community. The fact that you come in here quickly and personally to assure everyone of the sites' well-being speaks volumes and characterizes the well-placed faith people have in the sites. But I'm not worried about the site, I'm more worried about the community and its thoughts when it comes to the site.
Thanks for doing what you do so well. -
Haha, when I was a newbie, I didn't even realize there were trams. I had just come over from EverQuest, where all the zone borders were like hallways at certain spots in the zone walls. I travelled back and forth from Atlas Park to King's Row a few times by going through Skyway City before I said "Hey, this is nuts... there has to be a better way!"

Quote:Actually, I believe this comes from that grandaddy of all MMOs, EverQuest, back in the day when almost all the major raid bosses were Dragons. Guilds (analogous to SGs) kept track of who participated in raids by issuing DKPs (Dragon Kill Points) to each member who was in on the kill of the dragons. The number of points varied by difficulty of the dragon or the difficulty of the raid (since some dragons were not as hard as just getting TO the dragon). Guild members could then use these DKPs to bid on drops at raids or to have a raid scheduled just for them (for example, to obtain an item needed for their epic weapon quest). And to think this was all done long before Ventrilo or Teamspeak...OTOH, i still don't know what DKP means. i like to think it stands for "Donkey Kong Points" as an homage to early video games.

Quote:Really? Because when I'm in game, my Friend list has separate tabs for Server and Global, and every channel I'm in.How do I view my Global Friend List? When I look at my Friend list, it contains Global and non-Global friends. Is there some way to view just Global Friends? If not, is there some way to configue my friends list so that Global versus non-Goblal Friends are identified in some fashion?
Thanks.
Click the Global tab to see only Global Friends.
Edit: Are you accessing the list through the Friend clickie at the top of your Chat box?
Edit: I just realized, it's not actually a tab. The list defaults to Server friends. Click the word Server to choose another sort category. -

Quote:Seriously. I can't possibly agree more. When you ask the tank why he doesn't have Taunt his reply is " Oh this is a concept build and Taunt just doesn't fit my idea for my character." ... I was on that team against Malta and the team leaders reply was .. "Yeah well a Tank that can't tank isn't part of MY concept either." and then he kicked the guy.
If I was looking for an Emp Def, I'd expect that player to come to the team with the powers necessary to help the team. If all you have is HA from the Empathy Set, then don't advertise yourself as an Emp Def. Same as if you're a Rad Emission Def with only the heal aura, don't advertise yourself as a Rad Def because you're not. You're some useless gimped clown that didn't take his main powers. -
And this is why it takes me until the teens to see how truly crappy some of my crappier builds are, and why I end up leaving them to languish in their teens. (Empathy/Archery, I'm looking at you.)

Quote:Exactly, there is no such sign.In order to assist those people that don't want any "help" from drive-by buffs, please explain step by step how they can get this sign everyone keeps telling them to get.
So please, don't b**** about getting buffs that we don't know you don't want when we try to HELP you in a game called City of HEROES. -

Quote:I'd be perfectly happy (no, make that delirious) if they made WW a power-free zone, like the quiet room in AE.What I find bizarre is the people who drive-by buff me in Wentworth's. Usually right after I arrive. Guys, I'm going to be shopping for a few minutes; the buffs will expire unused.
I don't think it's pure harassment because they could turn on a lot more powers if they were just spamming powers; this looks like regular...although not very well-thought-out...buffing. -
Quote:This. Not to knock the players who enjoy Ninja Run or the developers who worked on it, but quite frankly the aesthetics of Ninja Run creep me out.
In motion, it's City of Samurai Jack. At rest, it's City of Quasimodo. I'll be sticking with Power Pool travel powers, sprints, and jetpacks, thank you very much.
.
Everyone is talking about concept, but none of my characters is Quasimodo or an arthritic geriatric. That bent-over stance just weirds me out.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'll use it for sure in the lower levels to get around, but you can bet I'll be grabbing Flight or SJ at 14 so I don't have to look at it any more. -
Haha, this reminds me of the commercial where two little girls are asked if they want a pony. The first girl gets a toy pony and the second girl gets a real pony, and the first looks on like "well, that's not fair". The cool part with Vet Rewards is everyone gets the toy pony AND the real pony!

Quote:ive seen the trench coat and i kind of like it...
im not sure if i will play for 3 straight months though...
do i get it if i play this month and for example in june and august?? or do i need to play january, february and march?
lol... your tone is like "ooooh, 3 whole months is forever". You're basically talking to people in this forum who've been here for five years or longer. Welcome to the game, and just wait and see... chances are you'll still be here in a year, maybe two, heck, maybe even five. -
Quote:If you get up to the counter to pay for your coffee and the clerk says, it's alright, sir, that other woman/man/child/alien paid for your coffee, do you instantly get all swolled up and shout, "Hey, I'm not a bum! I can pay for my own damned coffee!" and insist on paying for your coffee anyways? If I'm standing around drinking a cup of coffee and someone drops some change into my cup, they are calling me a bum (and ruining my coffee) even if they're trying to be nice.
I would prefer that people keep performing random acts of kindness, instead of stopping because they're getting yelled at. It makes the world a much better place. We need more inter-connectedness, and less feeling alone and having to single-handedly take on the world. Just as an experiment, maybe you can try not thinking of them as trying to insult you or put you down and rather as just helping from the goodness of their heart. If you change your worldview, maybe the world won't seem like such a foreboding place. -
Quote:I remember from my early days playing CoH and mistakenly attacking a mob that was deep in the red to me. Just as I was about to collapse, somebody hit me with some amazing buff and helped me to take out the guy I was fighting. I was so amazed at the comic book feel of being yanked back from the brink of death. That was only the first of many scenarios like this I've seen in my 4.5 years and that first rush of grabbing victory from the jaws of defeat hooked me very solidly on CoH from the very beginning.Ah, yeah i can see that. Well, FWIW i already stated that i generally limit my buffing to those that appear to have a need for it, and generally do it for much lower level characters. Even then it's more likely to be a fortune i toss on them since most of my support characters tend to be debuff or toggle buff based.
Sometimes i just drop useful seeming inspirations on a character as i go by. That way they can use them or delete them as they see fit.
When a level 3 Tanker looks like he's new to the game and close to being beat up by a bunch of Hellions or the like i am likely to toss Infrigidate on the toughest mob or hit them all with Shiver. So some times i'm also guilty of drive-by debuffing. Generally only debuffs that do no damage.
It all depends on your outlook. You (generic "you" here, to be clear) can be cheerful and thanking the random drive-by for their help, or you can be grumpy and upset at these "damn kids on your lawn". It's up to the individual, I guess. Guess which one has more fun? -
Quote:"Pardon me, sir, you seem to be having a devil of a time fighting that rather nasty-looking fellow in the tin suit with all the sharp bits. Would you, perhaps, be interested in one of my finer buffs (if I do say so myself)? It is called Fortitude and it will help you in your fight in many ways! It will buff your Accuracy, your Damage, and your Defense to... Oh, my! It seems he got the better of you that time, sir... Perhaps when you get back from your trip to the hospital, you'd be interested in... Well! How rude to be teleporting off to the hospital in the middle of our conversation!"They assume I both want and need their "help", when often times I don't. They can tell when I do want it; I'll join a team with them. Otherwise, I don't want it, I don't need it, and I think it's terribly rude and a touch arrogant to assume that I want/need YOUR help to do whatever it is I'm doing.
I'm doing fine on my own, thanks. I want to learn to master my character by learning what I can and cannot do at each level. That means your "help" is actually in my way and makes me waste my game time while I wait for it to wear off so I can go back to what I was doing. -
No. The Prince of Demons has never been named. The Envoy of Shadows, likewise never named, is his ambassador to our world, able to cut deals in his name.

Quote:"Really friggin annoying"? Really?PLEASE for the love of GOD make a way to ignore this thing. It can be SO annoying.. Everyone on the team trying to throw that buff in the middle of fighting and having to click YES or NO on the pop up window all the time is really friggin annoying..
I don't find ANY buffs "really friggin annoying".
The day I get pissed at someone buffing me is the day I quit this game... -
Quote:Hmmm, when did they change this? Shows you how long it's been since I've played in SG mode at higher levels.
At one time didn't Inf start dropping off starting at level 24 in SG mode until it hit 0 at level 34? (in the snow, uphill, both ways)
Edit: Following the link, I see they changed it in Issue 12. Nice to know I'm not totally off my rocker, hehe. Don't see how I coulda missed this tidbit though. -
If you turned off XP and turned on SG mode and were over level 34, wouldn't that earn you only prestige?

Over the past year, I've had quite a few friends move to Virtue from Freedom. They like the high population, but don't like the higher percentage of dumb (their words) on Freedom. I've been playing on Virtue more too. The only downside is I play a lot of catgirl characters who seem to get more unwanted attention on Virtue.
